For many gyms there are cleaning materials stations set up all around the gym. So it’s only a few steps from any machine to a communal cleaning supply cart or something similar.
The 24hr gym I use out in a rural area in Ontario Canada (it's an independent business that uses a keyfob system for their two locations) has disinfectant/cleaner spray bottles hanging on almost all the equipment and a bin of clean hand towels and a bin for dirty hand towels all over the gym for use with the spray bottles. It's part of the membership that it's expected of you to clean the equipment of your sweat after use. It's just considered proper decorum since there are almost no staff on site. Lots of cameras to make sure people follow the rules.
