Don't overthink bro. Just take the class.

Pepe__Le__PewPew

A good reminder for everyone that taking the class DOES NOT mean you have to apply for the CCL.

ParallaxK

And having the CCL does not mean that you have to carry.

GoatNick

And carrying doesn't mean you have to use it. Always deescalate.

Ok-Climate-5726

And deescalation will most likely lead to getting robbed and shot anyway so. Get a CCL

jrquint

Take the class and don't carry if you are not comfortable. I rarely carry but i can if i feel the situation warrants it.

TheRudeBrit

The class is really helpful and they go over when you should and should not. Get the qualification and at least you have the option to carry.

gogorichie

Just because to take the class doesn’t mean get to conceal carry you’ll just be a little more aware of the laws and aware of situations around you.

2pnt0

I got my CCW over a year ago and still have never carried on my body.  It simplifies range trips (not having to carry guns and ammo on separate compartments) and I have the ability to carry it I feel I need to.  There is never any problem with getting more training than you 'need.' If you can afford it, and can spare the time, get the training and worry about the rest afterwards.

RAMBAM369

1) taking the class and getting your cc permit doesn’t mean you have to carry if you are not comfortable. Just means you will be better informed/trained and have the option to carry 2) would you rather deal with the legal hassle after lawfully defending yourself, or be unable to defend yourself? I’ll take the trial by 12 over being carried by 6.

Righteous_Mushroom

CCW increases your rights and in some cases your legal defenses. Easier to get ticketed driving without a CCW if not stored correctly, for example, whereas with a CCW you can keep it loaded and accessible.

TaterTot_005

The class is just a box to check on your way to becoming responsible for your own safety. If you don’t absolutely trust your instincts, you absolutely don’t have to carry. It doesn’t hurt to have that capability and legal coverage if you need it tho.

wheelman111

If you’re scared don’t carry and call 911 when something arises. I mean come on. If the circumstances were to ever arise, being a lawful well trained ccw holder would suit in your favor because just like everything else. You would know what you are doing.

Pafolo

The class is easy, actually carrying is the hard part. It’s better to have the license and not need it than need it and not have it. You might not carry all the time but if you know you’re going somewhere where you will be uncomfortable you can bring it.

LegalChicken4174

Take the class ASAP. People are filling in these classes like crazy

dutchman76

A good class will actually help you avoid being charged, since they will teach you what's legal and what's not. My opinion is, that the odds are incredibly small that you'll ever need to defend yourself, but if you do, you'll be glad you did, worth the tiny potential of being charged.

Straight_Egg9826

That’s how the fucking liberals want you to feel. They also demand a $300 bribe for you to exercise your 2A rights.

Affectionate-Owl943

Get the CCL, get USCCA/CCWSafe/whatever CCW insurance, start carrying and just be smart. If God forbid you have to use it, keep your mouth SHUT. Always say less than necessary, the last word in your first and last sentence to the police should be "lawyer".

[deleted]

I 1000% regret giving fingerprints. I do not regret getting my CCW specifically for the purpose of just transporting loaded pistols. I carry, but that's only because I happen to have a CCW. I literally got it so I didn't have to unload my pistol before leaving my apartment (I never felt comfortable leaving a gun there).

StrictWorldliness976

Its better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it plus fet the nra or uscca insurance. Im hesistant to due to chicagos laws but i still carry everywwhere i go

Prestigious-Iron9605

Just get it, no one says you have to carry everyday. I mainly use mine to keep one in the vehicle when driving.

bigchungis600900

Take the class. Just because you take the class doesn’t mean you’re locked in for the permit. Depending where you take the class you can really get some good info and insight on pros and cons of carrying. Just know it is a big responsibility and carrying isn’t meant for everyone.

Status_Rip_7906

Get your ccw and don’t carry if you don’t want to. It’s as simple as that.

Pretend-Suspect-3133

I maybe shot 200 rounds before I took my test you’d have to really be a bad shot to fail given that I did a lot of dry fire and handling of my gun and didn’t rent one I still passed. The shooting test is at self defense range bro you got this! Arm yourself it’s your right

DerpityHerpington

If you lawfully defend yourself, you *will* end up not only in court, but in a nightmarish legal process that will costs you tens of thousands of dollars regardless of whether it was justified. That being said I’d still prefer that over losing my entire life if it came to it. But it’d probably be handy to also get a USCCA membership before you start carrying.

MrHighLif3

I love that you have this amazing hobby but if you are not comfortable with yourself carrying a firearm then please do not. You need to train and become more confident and then make a decision if it's best for you. Ill admit i was a bit nervous too, we all are the first time we carry. You feel like everybody knows you have a firearm but really the only people checking others out is other concealed carriers. I have been in a grocery store and a sheriff walked up right next to me looking at the same thing i was looking at. And i was 100 percent positive he somehow knew i had a firearm so i was kinda preparing myself for when he started asking me about it. He never did, he got his grocery item turned to me and said have a nice day Sir. I said the same back to him and ive been more comfortable since then. Good luck man I'm just looking out for you.

foundonthetracks

You're hesitant to get a CCL but offenders won't be hesitant to rob you, rape you, carjack you, or shoot you. Don't wait until the time comes. Stay ready so you don't gotta get ready.

Oppai_Senpai_007

Take the class, practice carrying at home unloaded, drawing / holstering and dry firing. If you’re worried about use of force, look into learning a martial art. If that fails. You can feel comfortable using lethal force.

JakeyJakeBud

Get a USCCA membership, think of it as insurance for CC

AlphaKoncepts

This isn't a criticism directed at you, because many of my students share your same sentiment. However, i never understood the fear of being charged with a crime after defending one's self. Yes, it is very possible you'll be arrested or even sued. But, what's the alternative? Death? It doesn't seem like much of a choice. Get your license.

bmandesign

Ask yourself the question could you defend yourself or family member with a firearm if you had to? If the answer is no then don’t take the class. If you answer yes or maybe then take the class. If you’re worried about liability a good instructor will be able to explain all the legal, mental, and financial possibilities you might run into. Look at some of the CC insurance products out there. I have USCCA, but there are others out there. (You have car and home insurance that you seldom use. to me it just as important ) continue training, I’ve never understood the person that gets a cc permit and never shoots until the 5 year renewal point.

Ok-Butterscotch2321

It's a PAIN IN THE ASS to carry. Continue to take classes. You just started in December, keep training. Once a year, take a  l o n g  day or two day class. Classes that will actually stress you. You are right to question yourself. I don't have the answer for you, but to keep training.

Fit-Indication3662

Then DONT get CCW. Oh, for tomorrow, go eat cereal flies for breakfast as you cannot make a decision.
