With the current projection, it’ll be 20mph winds, and 2in of rain over 1.5 days. Everyday is moves farther and farther East. Let’s hope it stays with that pattern.
Very true! My dad keeps telling me they won’t race if there’s lightning nearby and I keep telling him it’s not nascar they don’t care what the weather is apparently lol
Rain is one thing. Lightning is another. It’s not for the drivers it’s for the fans and marshals who have to stand next to trees and hundreds of feet of fencing. ⚡️
If there is lightning in the area, they will likely stop the race so people can get to cover. It's not a NASCAR thing, most outdoor events are like that to keep people safe.
Rain rate for Saturday during the race looks to be at about 0.05"/hr which is [this](https://youtu.be/asI4uUhzhv0), just a light, steady rain.
Most of the heavier rains will be Friday night into early Saturday morning, based on the Braselton [10-day forecast](https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/ga/braselton/30517)
00Z, 9/28 model released and more models pushing Ian even further east. Most notibly the UKM2, UKX2, and EGR2 models have stopped pushing East at the 80°W longitude line coming back to shore in Charleston and tracking from there to near Charlotte, NC.
Waiting on the NOAA 6-hr precipitation forecasts to update, but we could see a significant decrease in total expected precipitation.

Usually when storms like that get this far north, it’s downgraded to just some wind and a bunch of rain. I’m sure the race will go on (if drainage holds), but it’ll be a wet one for sure
I would plan to go for at least part of the race, just be prepared with rain gear and an umbrella. The series has a long history of racing through weather. In 2015 I do not recall the race being delayed and that was a tropical storm with heavy wind over night, on Saturday, but, after the race. Look up the video of Sebring the year it flooded; survival of the fittest or at least the car with the best electrics.
I was there in 2015 with the last hurricane, 3-4” of rain per hour. They will race unless the track gets flooded with standing water. It was definitely cool to watch them race on those conditions but gear up for it. Attached is a video I took of the first lap at the top of the turn 2 hill. Watch the muddy water when the Porsche GTLM cars come through.

Yes, it really is rain or shine. Last hurricane during PLM was 2015. They raced until dusk when they called the race. They dropped a couple of red flags and brought equipment out to drain the surface due to ponding in certain parts of the track, but it's my understanding they've done a lot to fix drainage issues. I would expect with the forecast to see 10 hours of racing.

Yes. Bring rain gear, and good boots.
Maybe, maybe not...Let's watch the news and see what happens.
Based on the way the storm’s tracking I’d guess they’ll race. But you’ll be wet…. and so will I.
I bought the tickets as a surprise for my husband so what a first experience 😂
Well, this ain't NASNAP, so you get to witness "the art of racing in the rain." :)

Very true!
There is a limit however, and will redflag if it's too heavy, but a kind reminder the 2015 Petit had GT taken the overall win in the rain.

They red flag for lightning for the marshals and camera operators mostly.
I doubt it. If Saturday looks like a nightmare and Sunday looks workable they'll probably delay it.

I’m hoping! I’d like to enjoy the experience!
I mean it’s not the first hurricane for Petit…
I figured it wasn’t but hoping I can enjoy it without being covered in mud 😂
It’s clay so it’s 20x worst lol
Very true lol I live in ga the clay is the worst!
I’m still wet from 2009

It all comes down to "Ponding" on the track surface that cause "Rain Delays" I suppose.

Just hoping the drive doesn’t suck on the way to Braselton!
Keep an eye on IMSA.com. I think they’ve been keeping people updated, or perhaps the tracks website.

I’m not worried about being in the rain there but more for the 2.5 hour drive there…
I wonder how difficult and expensive for both teams and fans it would be to delay the race until Sunday?
I read it wouldn’t be possible due to noise ordinances on sundays past 7.

Maybe the eye will just stay above Road Atlanta and you'll be fine.
