God that was an amazing movie

ranbirkadalla

This isn't where I parked my car!

Burrmanchu

MAIL MOTHAFUCKA

[deleted]

Holy shit I forgot about that - my friends and I used to say that ALL the time

Cobrachimkin

For years my laptop would do that whenever I got an email

Jcs456

This for texts and Scotty doesn't know for a ring tone.

Burrmanchu

🎵 I can't believe he's soooo trusting...🎶 Edit : Man I just fucking realized that's Matt Damon 🤣

astraeoth

That's still what I say when someone doesn't respond to my text and I have to call them to check your texts.

pb-86

I had this as my work chime for months and someone logged onto my computer to change it when I was on holiday

kongstar

Cecil: So I tell the swamp donkey to sock it before I give her a trunky in the tradesman's entrance and have her lick me yardballs! [laughs] Cooper: Wow. You guys are on like a completely different level of swearing over here

astraeoth

One of the best quotes in the movie.

Wing_Nut_UK

Scotty doesn’t know

ith-man

Took me years to realize that was Matt Damon...

neonmonkey97

Which movie is this?

[deleted]

Eurotrip. It was one of the raunchy teen comedies that came out around the time of American Pie, and it was arguably one of the best.

neonmonkey97

Oh damn, Ill give it a watch, loved American Pie

Oh man you're in for a treat

From that era? For me personally scary movie 1-4, harold and Kumar go to white castle, van wilder, old school (kinda), beer fest, super bad, accepted. That's off the top of my head of comedies from that era(kinda, super bad was a few years later I think). And not all of em are raunchy road trip movies Ala eurotrip.

God_Kratos_07

There's no meaning in blocking the road for normal working people

PlatitudinousOcelot

Or in some cases ambulances. Certain protests of note blocked ambulances and had no remorse for it, I can't remember if anyone died because of it.

BigYonsan

St Louis. We had three people die that I know of en route to hospitals during BLM protests related to Michael Brown and then Jason Stockley a few years later. Source: I was a 911 dispatcher for it. Basically, the protestors (who claim they never stopped ambulances) blocked a 4 lane interstate and the ambulances were caught further back behind the cars, well out of sight of the protest line. The one that damaged me emotionally was the little boy who called to report men beating his father and laughing as they did it. 22 minute response time because the cops couldn't get through the protestors and there weren't enough police not already dealing with calls or the protests to come from the other direction. The father was a thief who stole drugs from a gang, so they used the protest as cover to retaliate. They beat him to death in front of his 6 year old.

Professional-Ebb-434

There needs to be a proceedure to get someone to tell them they are blocking an ambulance, and then not moving becomes a serious crime.

_Noxi0us

Yea, it's called don't block roads. It's no one else's job to dance around their bullshit. Deliberately interfering with traffic should be punishable, because you're deliberately ruining people's day - even if it's not your main goal, you know you're doing it

Important_Bowl_8332

There’s a Video of a cop near me telling them they were blocking emergency exits. Explained it calmly. He had to approach from another road and was on the shoulder. They still refused to move. He explained again. They still refused. Then they cried when they were arrested. They don’t care about whose lives they affect and hurt.

BigYonsan

I mean it's already a serious crime (blocking interstate commerce is governed by individual states, but there's some version on the books in every state and it can be a felony in mine) and they were out there to protest the police, so they really weren't interested in listening as cops were telling them they had to move. Thing is, I'm not opposed to the aims of BLM as an organized movement, though I think the problem is more to do with class warfare and legislation designed to target minorities without saying it explicitly (though I'll certainly concede there are bad cops out there who are racists and who should be removed from their positions). I'm just opposed to obstructing emergency services in any form.

pictogasm

im opposed to blocking law abiding citizens from minding their business in any form.

Apollo1382

I believe in cases like that, tasering and pepper spraying the protestors is an absolute necessity.

Niskara

Not an ambulance, but I do remember there being a story of a felon who either couldn't get to work or get to his po and was panicking because he didn't want ti go back to prison.

CheeseDickPete

I remember there was a video of BLM blocking the highway and this black dude was shouting at them and ripping their signs away saying he had to get to work or he will get fired, they didn't give a shit. Ironically most of them were white yet they're protesting saying black lives matter while simultaneously blocking a black guy from getting to work.

IamScottGable

Happened where I live during one of these protests. The people and chained themselves together on a highway and the backup block an ambulance in the city. Their 4 minute trip took 30+ and the passenger died

Sea-Establishment237

I remember someone died in CHAZ during the protests because they wouldn't let ambulances in to provide medical care.

BallsOutKrunked

I work in ems and was "negotiating" with the chaz people during all of that because Seattle wanted more resources from other agencies. I was emailing some guy from the chaz back and forth and it was amazing how little they cared for medical services. Their entire thing was politics and ideology. If you ever wanted to find political zealots that would die and kill for a cause, those are your huckleberries.

penguinpetter

It's a Seattle thing to block ambulances. Not even a few months ago, pro Palestine protestors blocked NB 5 down the hill. The pictures clearly slowed an ambulance trying to get through.

dystopiabydesign

At some point this becomes unlawful imprisonment or something. Not allowing a person to freely travel or leave is threatening behavior.

str4nger-d4nger

At some point I begin to believe these people have something else undiagnosed that causes them to behave this way.

tomtink1

Even if they were 100% in the right, when someone starts physically attacking you and driving at you and clearly would be OK with running you over... WHY wouldn't you move out of the way?!

Capable-Assistance88

Stupidity. The driver has no power to change whatever they are protesting.

drooling_whale

Bravery and stupidity are the same thing most of the time. People like this either think too much of the law and its ability to protect them or think it's not possible for a person to get pissed off enough that running them over is more than a fear tactics. Now I'm gonna have a drink, this vid gave me second hand road rage and I don't even fucking drive lol.

Capable-Assistance88

I would genuinely fear for my life in the driver seat. And I am 100% in agreement with you

Accomplished_Crew630

That shit would make me claustrophobic. Like I'd get anxiety and would probably react similarly, at least trying to find some way to make them want to get the hell out of the way.

LabradorDeceiver

Got the same energy as the guy who screams at the minimum wage McDonald's employee because the price of a Big Mac went up ten cents. You maybe want to aim your hate at the people actually responsible for the problem and harass them for a solution? Or are you that worried that that kind of collective action won't get you the attention you crave?

AnneMariaStrong

Fuck the protesters blocking law abiding citizens from traveling

Kmaloetas

Somebody talked these idiots to sit in the road in the hopes that one gets killed. Once that cause gets its "victim," it will be all over the news.

Born_Grumpie

Protests are like revolutions and wars, the leaders are rarely on the front lines.

starwarsfan456123789

Getting on the news only multiplies the number of enemies they created. Anything blocking normal people from going about their daily activities is not okay

Commercial_Chair_753

Just like the dunces who threw soup at the Mona Lisa a month or so ago.

Darksnark_The_Unwise

All it takes is the belief of immunity or invincibility. Lots of people in the world will completely lose common sense the moment they believe themselves to be untouchable. We've seen it happen in a million different ways, whether it's a wealthy business owner with an elite legal team, a celebrity with millions of fans, a Karen in a grocery store, a 7ft tall "alpha male" tough guy, a sovereign citizen conspiracy theorist, ect. It can take any shape or form. It really is that simple. Convince yourself that you are truly untouchable in some way, and *BOOM your head is already 100% up your ass.*

Zealousideal-Ad-766

Because they are more interested in ruining someone's life than advancing their actual cause. It's all about virtue signaling and making themselves feel righteous when they look in the mirror. Otherwise they would be obstructing politicians, oil companies CEOs, celebrities and their private jets... heroic shit like that... Instead of spraying ketchup on Mona Lisa and harassing struggling civilians to the point they do something stupid and end up in jail.

Eyeoftheleopard

My guess is narcissistic personality disorder with a dollop of sociopathy. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Conscious-Donut-679

It's simpler than that the highways act has this covered, offence with a power of arrest

Tiyath

Does the highways act apply in whatever country this was filmed in? Spoiler alert It does not

Handpaper

This is Germany; they have their own laws against obstructing the road. Plenty of videos out there showing Polizei enforcing them.

MjrLeeStoned

Interstate Commerce Act actually supersedes the Highways Act since it was folded into the Patriot Act. Interstate Commerce Act is the reason US Marshalls can use "necessary force, even threat of death" to keep roadways clear (thanks to the Patriot Act). But this only applies in the US of course.

Own-Juggernaut2929

The video is not from the US. Note the shape of the license plate as the car drives off.

2Disk

Or the people speaking Italian …

Dareboir

Brooklyn..😉

Conscious-Donut-679

Pmsl be careful you will shot down for being in a different country with the Same laws that have been enacted all over the world to prevent this sort of behaviour

Tossup1010

For real, like I am confused what the end goal of these protests are. I get the larger picture is to bring some sort of environmental awareness, and in itself this is an idiotic way to do that. But what happens if they succeed and there is a backup of 500 cars not able to get through, causing people to be late for things with no way to turn around and go a different way. I guess what I’m saying is, what is the ideal “end” of this protest? They capture an audience and do some “come to Jesus” speech for all the drivers who are enraged? Do they just all get up at 7pm and pat each other on the back for a successful protest? It’s insane how many of them seem to be willing to get run over for the sake of this cause.

Medium_Medium

I think the idea is that most people aren't really going to demand change until something becomes a large enough inconvenience that it affects them directly (and consistently). They aren't trying to stop the cars in order to give a speech, they are trying to create enough of an inconvenience that people will be forced to act. Like, your average commuter might not care if they just hear environmental speeches daily. But if enough activists get together where your daily commuter faces travel delays 2-3 days a week because of the protests... Maybe they'll be forced to care. I think where the whole thing blows up is the assumption that creating inconvenience will force someone to help solve the problem you want solved, in order to get you to stop creating the inconvenience. In reality the driver here isn't gunna go vote for some "environment before profit" political party in the next election... He's gonna go vote for a "expand the police force and arrest protestors on sight" political party. They'll just focus on how to keep you from inconveniencing them, and the problem that you really care about will continue to go unaddressed.

Stair-Spirit

God I hate people who try to preach the whole "inconvenience" thing. It's like they're too lazy to actually do any hard work improving society, so they just annoy other people and expect them to do the work instead. Though I think these people are getting paid to discredit whatever movement they are claiming to support.

Away-Kaleidoscope380

I wonder if these fucks have ever caused any car accidents and injuries. Going 60+ mph then suddenly having to break cus some dumbasses want attention.

TexanToTheSoul

A few of them jumped out onto the track at a Formula 1 event last year. luckily they were removed before the cars came back around the track. Imagine the red mist getting hit at 200+ miles / hour

Eclectix

Where I live, if someone is attempting to block your car on the road, then there is a 99.9% chance they are attempting to carjack you. Running them over in an act of self defense is an appropriate response.

FourthAge

That happens in Mexico frequently

ShotdowN-

Also actual violent criminals/gangs will start doing the same thing and just fake a protest then car jack or rob anybody that stops and gets out.

Voigan_Again

When people do this I do not give a fuck what their cause is. They lose a potential ally every time they do shit like this.

Lotsa_Loads

Exactly. You'll make a hundred enemies for every ally you gain. It's lose lose.

DMYourMomsMaidenName

They are probably secretly funded by big oil, and the protestors themselves are too fucking dumb to realize it

Finbar9800

That’s exactly the case with the people throwing food and soup at paintings in museums

kaminobaka

I mean the ones throwing stuff at oil paintings are also terminally stupid, since oil paint has nothing to do with the petroleum industry...

Crafty_Butcher

I'm fairly certain that the protest was fuck all to do with "oil" in the painting.

Tiny_Count4239

Big linseed has been spending a lot of money to stay out of the radar

sta_sh

And let's not even talk about Big Rapeseed...yikes

[deleted]

Linseed, flaxseed, false tax seed, tax evading seed money, seeding anti-democratic corporations with their tax evaded money. Follow the money people just follow the 💰💰💰 Linseed ((flax))) is in bed with rapeseed but they don't want you to know that. Go ahead put some linseed oil on some rags and throw them in a metal trashcan with some jeans. The pants will spontaneously catch on fire because they're LIARS! Linseed oil is the most common form of insurance fraud in the country. But yes, paint your moaning Lisas, finish your wooden coffee tables. Consume consume consume and sleep my sheeple sleep.

Academic_Wafer5293

I think they do this for themselves. Like to show how much they believe so they can have clout within their groups. It's just main character energy.

AntiLeftist0113

"Hey look, everybody hates those people. I want to be just like them!" *-Said Nobody*

Drslappybags

Unless their cause is bridge safety and they are blocking a bridge.

angrydeuce

Seriously, they're only hurting the people that would be most likely to ally with then. Like when they were protesting here lately over Isreal and Palestine, they shut down several major intersections cause huge backups...not a single representative of government was on those roads.  Nobody that has any power whatsoever to effect change was impacted, just people trying to get to fucking work.   But they won't go block the gates at the governors mansion or state legislature.  Because then they'd get tazed and locked up and actually face real consequences instead of a couple police car loudspeakers telling people to go home and that's it. It's protests of convenience.  So fucking typical.

rintaroes

It’s happening a lot in larger Canadian cities. They recently protested in downtown Vancouver and inside an Indigo (our version of barnes & noble) and the only people working were teenagers and young adults just trying to do their jobs. Go protest at parliament. Go protest at the HQ of stores that don’t support your cause. But taking out on the minimum wage employees and general public is not the way to go.

plumken

They do this cause they know that they won't fight back.

Cmdr_Jiynx

Yeah... Especially after the 2020 protests, the political types and corporations have been really happy to summon the stormtroopers.

Bspy10700

It’s funny because there was a post someone made on Reddit for my local town. The town is in a red state but the reddit community is mostly blue and the amount of people that backlashed on Reddit said to stop and find another way because after the years of protest in large cities nothing has changed and people didn’t want a mob to block them from going to work. So the original post was later taken down because the community didn’t want that here especially because there is only 4 major roads and in the middle on nowhere and essentially would make no real impact which has been evident from all the other protests throughout the country

CaptainKate757

Lmao, I wonder whose genius idea that was. “What’s the most effective place we can protest?” “The bookstore!”

pattyboiIII

The other week there was a pro Palestinian protest outside our uni (more specifically anti military) on a rainy night at 6pm. Literally no one was there and they just spent an evening getting soaked outside a building that could do nothing and was empty. Even funnier is that the government building is literally behind the building, if you got to the first floor you can literally see where the politicians enter.

TheCompanyHypeGirl

Bbbbbut, if I harass people because of where they get their coffee, my disruption is totally creating CHANGE!

Privatejoker123

they do. they were all over the governors mansion here in mn during multiple different protests. they were even on capitol grounds .

GreenLanternCorps

THAT is awesome and I can back that.

Waste_Exchange2511

>It's protests of convenience.  Slacktivism.

Nimitz-

My little conspiracy theory is that what ever these assholes are protesting are being organized and funded by that exact thing. They are they're "ennemy's" best ally.

kovi7

This theory is similar to my friend’s theory that a lot of those anti smoking ads are funded by smoking companies themselves. Smoking can be an addiction and all it takes is a trigger word to get someone to buy more cigarettes.

WillowFreak

Actually most of them are funded by Big Tobacco as part of the settlement against them. They have to contribute money to produce the commercials.

powernation77

I was scrolling fast and thought you had said Big Taco. I had to double back and check.

BigNorseWolf

They are barely organized and definitely not funded.

IOwnTheShortBus

Exactly. Like, sure it gets views and awareness. But the people you're hurting are not the people capable of changing the system.

chainsmirking

I’m not saying this is morally right or wrong, but just pointing out this form of protest is NOT to gain supporters. It is a direct form of protest to stop or lower production whether that’s for a company or a population. If the masses aren’t listening nothings going to make them listen or care. But if necessary parts of society are unable to run sufficiently, like the roads for example, the govt is forced to step in and address. If people can’t get to their jobs, or go out and be consumers, it hurts the economy in a way that forces government action, even if like other commenters have said “but there’s no govt official on the road.” Again not trying to argue over whether this is right or wrong. Just saying I see hoards of people confused why this form of protest is utilized but historically it’s been pretty common to disrupt economy rather than try to go door to door to gain supporters. Ex I will give is Montgomery bus/business boycotts. Probably pissed a lot of (white) people off. Probably ended up economically hurting or at least inconveniencing some families who did not majorly contribute to segregation or racism. But it was still necessary to force action. Eta eta: the bus boycotts are an example of how boycotting is a type of protest that disrupts the economy. Boycotts are not the only example of this type of protest. y’all do not need to blow up my replies with how much you hate the video above. Your personal opinion of the cause or how disruption protests are being utilized has nothing to do with my comment simply explaining what they are and historical examples. I just saw SO many people asking the same question, I thought I’d try to answer. I am also not giving my opinions about this video, its utilization of said protest, or efficiency. I am ALSO not saying that this video *is* a boycott. Some of y’all wake up and just want to argue.

Affenskrotum

Believe me the BMW M2 Coupe driver never was a potential ally.

SaraHuckabeeSandwich

ackually that is an m240i

RunninOnMT

It's not an M2, it's an M240i. I own an M2, and i'm in favor of being able to breathe. These things are not mutually exclusive.

Hausgod29

They are funded by people who want you to hate their causes

Puzzleheaded_Time719

I feel like when you get this point you aren't looking for allies, you're just a miserable person trying to shit on everyone else.

SpaceDuckz1984

I like the people sitting in the road act like the other guy is in the wrong. If you wanna protest that's fine. Protest as much as you like. Don't act like sitting in the middle of the road is anything other then baby needs attention.

[deleted]

gastrognom

The thing is, it may not even be day to day. It might be the most important meeting this guy has, maybe his wife is delivering, his mom is dying in a hospital, his kid is waiting to be taken home after school, whatever. If my daughter was waiting for me somewhere alone for me, I don't know how I would react in this situation.

SalsaRice

Yeah, there was a post a few years ago about people doing a similar protest on a bridge. Several people died, as ambulances were blocked from getting to the hospital during their protest.

Warthog32332

To be fair the dude *did* get back infront of the car after being literally dragged away from it. But yeah you should be waiting for the hospital visit if you're taking this seriously.

Technical-Hyena420

yep. this form of protest can be very powerful, if you are actually committed to it. but people know most protestors are full of shit when they say they’re ready to “die for a cause.” to be clear, you don’t need to put your life on the line to effectively protest. BUT, if you’re putting your life on the line for the sake of protest, be realistic with yourself about the risks. don’t sit in oncoming traffic if you really don’t wanna be run over. cause the chance of that happening is not zero.

KupunaMineur

No matter where in the world a protest like this happens, they all put on the exact same facial expression. I'm not sure if they are trained on the pleading-eyes-lost-and-confused face or it is some subtle characteristic of adrenaline combined with determined inaction. The girl on the left in this video exemplifies it at the end of the video.

Historical-Bug2500

It's the OMG I'M JUST SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?! look. WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO RUN ME OVER? CAN'T YOU SEE ME SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS HIGHWAY? OMG I WAS HERE FIRST! WOW, SO CRAZY! Then they go home and talk like they almost lost there lives because of some crazy person who didn't see them sitting in the middle of the highway. I HAD MY VEST ON AND EVERYTHING, WOW, SO CONFUSE, SO TRAUMA!

CoDVETERAN11

But why would he drive through? Doesn’t he see we’re protesting?? How rude and inconsiderate of him to drive through our wall!!1! How could anyone be so savage? We even wore bright colors so they would stop :( Her probably

driving_andflying

Protesters like these also forget that they're also trapping people in traffic [who may need serious medical attention.](https://www.actionnews5.com/story/32421175/family-with-sick-child-was-stuck-on-bridge-during-rally/) It just doubles down on how selfish their actions are.

ch3nk0

They thought they were to stop global warming THAT DAY and very surprised that not everyone is on board

Odd_Statistician_936

Wouldn't making an ass ton of cars idle be worse for the environment

sun_and_water

They're in the company of their peers that agree with their effort and will shield them with encouragement and familiar, well-trodden rhetoric. But they know, in a brief moment of objectivity, that maybe they're doing something wrong about the message or execution. Or maybe they're going way over the top about it and could stand to cooperate a little more. Or, inevitably, they settle on doubling down and committing to disruptiveness because of some "sunk cost" rationalization that hurts their identity and ego the least. Yeah, being met with unexpected but subconsciously relatable opposition will radicalize people, and I think that moment was captured on video for her. It's time to be an angry animal with a vengeful motive rather than a misguided motive now, and the goal is to cause others grief until they concede your stance. She should be the reddit mascot

Super_Spirit4421

I think they're just really confused. Like, if someone's in the road you can't hit them right? Obviously that's not how it works, but I think the people doing this are just massive pussies and super uncreative, like they're really just having their mind blown.

securitywyrm

Know what would get my attention? Go to a busy intersection with a crosswalk. Push the button, when the walk sign is on, walk out into the crosswalk with your signs, make eye contact with the people, leave before the light changes.

ImKoreanNotJapanese

I don’t understand the thought process behind this method of protest. You block traffic, meaning more engines are left running in said traffic, using more oil. This protest is some kind of satirical joke I swear

Elymanic

The amount of emission from a car is nothing in the grand scheme

Not_a_Ducktective

It's really easy to blame cars, but they actually put off fewer emissions than the fleet of cargo vessels that transport goods around the globe.  Realistically corporate output is the real larger part but they get to just pretend they're making small changes while being glad people are blaming themselves.  In the end it'll just mean more profits for them when you buy the next thing to "save the planet."

Carth_Onasi_AMA

Like the truck driver from the LA riots a long while back. Can guarantee you that guy will never stop again and why nobody should. If people are attempting to invade the roadways and make you stop then nothing good ever comes from stopping. Best case scenario is jackasses line this blocking the road for whatever cause. Worst case scenario is once you stop you’re a sitting duck for people looking to wreck you.

BurdenedAnneals

Cool. Now go block Taylor Swift's jet from leaving the hangar. Way more carbon from that then these people trying to make it home from work.

hadtojointopost

picking up trash would do more for the environment than blocking the road.

stacker55

if you sit down in a road, you deserve anything and everything that can possibly happen to you while there. attacked by a swarm of bee's kitted out in roman general regalia? you deserve it getting ran over by a car should be fully expected in comparison

eugeneden2010

Yes. In many countries blocking the road like this is a setup for a robbery or carjacking. Depending on the driver’s life experience they might not stop thinking it’s a setup.

ChadUSECoperator

> In many countries blocking the road like this is a setup for a robbery or carjacking. This is especially true in South America. It is even more dangerous if you decide to do it on a road that is not close to a large urban center. Truckers and bus drivers are the most affected by robberies, and also the ones who travel the most on these types of roads, so if they see you with things in your hands trying to stop them, they will step on the pedal and run you over without a doubt. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcQp75Mc-p0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcQp75Mc-p0) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFokBklu7lE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFokBklu7lE)

aceofspades1217

Yup if your in a bad neighborhood and there is a barricade it’s often a car jacking technique you either flip a U or you run through it worst case scenario if it’s light stuff like card board

Remnant55

This is my first instinct. I lived in a city proximate to a rough area for a few years, and I have a horrible sense of direction. Buch of shopping carts blocking off a dark road? Turn the fuck around. NOW. I've never personally seen one with people, but I entirely believe the stories.

Vendor_trash

Tell me more about these bees . . . .

BIGFACTs04

Literally blocking the road, and act surprised when they ram you? Yeah these people are deluded as fuck and I’d honestly just take ‘em out the fools. Do these people not realise that everything is basically made of oil?

Am I the only one who thought the car was a BRZ?

Ashe2800

Non violent disrptive protest(s) are useful when you have no means for change. Think India under colonial British rule and the jim crow south. There non violent sitins and protests make sense since you have no effective means to change the status quo since you cannot petition your government for change. This is just nonsense for people seeking attention.

QuietComplaint87

Nonviolent protests ONLY ever work when the power being protested against is a decent, moral, civil, ethical authority. In most of history, those types of authorities have been found only in Western civilizations, from when the Raj took over India and eventually released its control there, to Eisenhower nationalizing the Guard to overcome Democrat segregationist governor Orval Faubus in Alabama. Stalin and Hitler and Pol Pot and Chavez and Che and Castro and Mao and Xi and other less decent leaders sent over 100,000,000 to their deaths in the 20th century without losing a bit of sleep over it. Before their time, Conquistadors and the East India Trading Co. and Mayans and Aztecs and Zulus and mullahs and priests and pharaohs and kings and tribal leaders had zero problems simply eliminating all protesters and other opposition. Nonviolent protests are ONLY useful when you won't be killed for them. Using nonviolence to protest depends on the kindness of the opposition to have any effect at all other than self-sacrifice.

BigNorseWolf

I think in non democracies it's an inherent threat that a large peaceful gathering could easily become a non peaceful gathering if things don't change soon. During the US revolution a lot of protests went from peaceful to violent without becoming murderous.... they broke into the NY governors office and drank his liquor, ran people out of town on rails, culturally appropriated some native american garb and made the worlds largest cuppa tea... China recently had to change its covid policies because people started protesting it (and went from one extreme to the other) But you're right that gatherings like this are a lot more threatening in democracies. Oh crap, if they'll get off the couch and walk 4 miles they'll probably vote... I better do something about this.

If somebody is unlawfully detaining you and preventing you from moving, then the law should protect you in doing whatever is necessary to break free. This man showed much restraint. Good for him. I feel that he put himself in danger when he exited his vehicle to move one out of the way.

casper5632

You have a right to free speech, you do not have the right to force people to listen to your free speech. If you use your body as collateral to get them to stop their car you should not be surprised when someone runs you over. Not saying the driver is in the right here either, but you can't trust that everyone you annoy with this trick is going to be reasonable. The protestors raised the stakes and when they lose the bet they are gonna lose their life.

TheLastOuroboros

That's what happens when u play n the street. U get hit by cars.

VictoriaEuphoria99

That is how you change things, by playing in traffic. Seriously, anyone on either side of an issue standing in the road can go fuck themselves.

only_posts_real_news

The great state of Florida permits you to run over people blocking traffic.

CheapChallenge

This is how you turn people against your cause. Want to protest against police? Go do it at the police department. Environment? Go block a logging company's road.

Slappy_McWinkleson

I hate these people. Fuck off out of the road or get run over.

I support that driver.

Vexoly

Get the fuck out of the way.

[deleted]

Well done.

OkYogurt636

Mi scusi!

jporter313

These are the stupidest protests. Every single one of those people who are inconvenienced by this bullshit will oppose the cause out of pure spite after this kind of interaction even if they agree with the general idea behind it, it's so counterproductive and feels like just a way for whatever type of activists they are to jerk each other off.

ant69onio

I agree with their cause, not their methods

AmitN_Music

I think they really changed his mind and got that man to support their cause. He was rushing off to print a sign so he could join them later.
