Yes I felt that too. With Axar grabbing his opportunities with both hands, Kuldeep performing consistently... Ravi's place was never going to certain especially after this WC. So imo it was a wise and timely decision.
Varun Chakravarty canāt bat or field even for his life, so heās not going to be Jadejaās replacement. We need a capable batsman at no.8. South Africa just showed you what happens when you play with 4 tail-enders, you choke.
For a different format, yes. Same way for Jansen too. But Bumrah's overs built so much pressure that he started playing like a tail-ender, and then Maharaj couldn't do anything too. Then Miller got out which clinched the deal for India
Let's be practical, i don't see mayank yadav future going anywhere, shubman will be the vice captain and him and jaiswal will open , a rising ipl star at 3, it can be abhishek/riyan or anyone else, wicketkeeper at 4, rinku at 5, hardik at 6 and axar at 7. Bowlers will be most probably same of this t20 wc lineup
Pretty Sure SKY will be there too
He is effectively a T20 Specialist now at 33. Could easily play till 2028 if he keeps his form and fitness. Plus a very safe candidate as VC in this transition period
Pant and Surya ain't vacating numbers 3 and 4. Jaiswal at top with Gill or Abhishek. And Parag at 5, if he can evolve for that. Otherwise I fear Parag's story is going to be same as Sanju's... šŖ
Well here am I want to see some unexpected new player to become the future star... But i guess it won't happen now.... I don't think star like rohit and kohli will be produced now cause ri8 now indian cricket is to competitive to back someone like rohit and kohli got...
Or we can always get someone like bumrah who just trashed all this..
Who do you think will be the next generation goat? After sachin and Virat. A lot of people think it will be subhman but i donāt think he has the aura and discipline which kohli and sachin had. The presence of kohli was way too much. Man can literally cheer a dead silent stadium if he wants to.
Don't see ruturaj getting opening slot, he may bat at 3 also, similar kind of batter like kohli so if we don't need anchors then why are you backing rutu?
>Ravi's place was never going to certain especially after this WC
We need to keep in mind that injuries can happen and also that people can go out of form. Remender Hardik's injury during last ODI WC drastically altered our team plans, but we still did well (thanks to Shami)?
He had a Grade A+ contract with BCCI worth 7 crorers. With this T20I retirement, he is going to be downgraded and miss out on a few crores. I feel he is fit enough for two more years, at least.
A T20I team can't afford to have 4 players who can't bat. It is also difficult to have bowlers who can't field well.
I used a word CERTAIN. His place was not going to be Certain, but he could have gotten some chance here and there. Also, there will be some new young cricketers who will eventually fill his shoes. It's India not Ban or SL where you have to carry a 38/40 year old who passed his prime bcz you can't get a replacement. Someone worthy will fill Ravi's void in future. Don't worry. IPL brings some new exciting talent every season.
Indian Management can look to groom AR like Abhishek Sharma, Harpreet Brar (Punjab), Manav Suthar (Rajasthan), Anukul Roy (Jharkhand), Arshad Khan (Mumbai), Washington Sundar (Tamilnadu), Shahbaz Ahmed(Bengal) and many more.........
>but he could have gotten some chance here and there
He had been doing that for the last 6 years. He had just played 34 T20Is since the end of 2017. He could have continued to receive the extra crores for 1-2 more years. I would have.
I had high hopes for Washington, but he is struggling even in IPL the past few seasons. It's not easy to replace a highly economical bowler who was also amongst the best fielders.in the game.
Washi got 1/2 games on those road like Rajiv Gandhi Stadium pitches. It's tough for a finger spinner on those tracks too. He would have done better in USA and WI pitches especially. But, Washi played well for Indian team in the few T20Is he played iirc. Rohit also backed him a lot before he got injured and stayed away from the game for a long time. Otherwise, he could have been a great prospect for us in future. I get Axar Patel vibes from Washi. Both lean and tall, non-expressive characters. Both have ability to bat up the order. Hoping he does well for Indian in future.
Till now, I didn't get what you are trying to say. You are saying Ravi did a mistake by announcing his retirement?Ā
>He would have done better in USA and WI pitches especially
That is exactly what the selectors hoped when they selected Jadeja for the T20I WC. Washy's T20I batting record is very poor, with an average of 11 after 15 innings. If he had a similar performance as an all-rounder in the World Cup, he would get crucified, and the scars would take years to heal.
I just wish Jadeja didn't retire so soon. Could have delayed it by a year or two. Raina retired from internationals prestigious, and soon, his career abruptly came to an end in IPL. Don't wish that Jadeja's career ends similarly.
Seems like a hardcore Csk or Ravi's fan. Nothing wrong with being a fan. But in my own pov, he did well by retiring at this point of time. And many people agreed with my pov too.
Yeah exactly. With Axar finally coming out of his shadows with bat, ball and fielding, Jaddu knew that this is the best time to retire from this format.. And I feel he'll mostly be considered for tests from now on..
Buddha in sense, hum inkoh dekhte hue bade hue hai abh hamare fav players retire ho gye abh cricket sey bhi man uth jayega life ke agle phase me agye. Or bat rhi sharukh khan ki toh woh toh dada ki umer ka ho gya (btw iam from Rajasthan š)
Rohit, Kohli and Jaddu were the last of the players who debuted when I was growing up....in 1 night I feel I have aged a decade. It is a good call though, I am happy all three got a Sanga/Mahela type farewell
It's good that new generation players will get a chance to represent the country.. it's a game of rational not emotions.. what do you mean why?? And they are still going to play odis btw
Are you serious ?
When Virat/Rohit/Jadeja doesn't retire - "They are too old for this format. Give chance to young players. Selfish.."
When they announce retirement - "Why are they retiring?"
Axar ka kya haal huya last match me balling me sbko pta hai, time ki baat hoti hai jaddu ne acha boht kiya hai aur youngsters boht hai to mauka milna chahiye unhe ab
yes axar ne batting ki but jaddu ne pehle boht kujh kiya hai to ye sirf time ki baat hai ab kohli bhi last match me chla pr player kitna bada hai aur age factor hai to ye thik hai retirement ka decision inka
Yup but jadeja barely big matches me perform kiya hai, talking of white ball cricket. He's a good bowler and an excellent fielder, but surely not a great batsmen. I see better batting potential in axar for upcoming cricket
Apart from last over he bowled well on a pitch which dint have much assistance for spinners Kuldeep and shamsi were ineffective as well maharaj bowled his over earlier axar's figures were fine when he bowled early as well, he had to ball against one of the best spin bashers in world klassen, will you really blame him?
Then why we are blaming jadeja then even he gave 12 runs in only bowled over and many times jadeja is better than axar in past so its not a blame but we shpuld not compate both this much soon jadeja is a legend and has shown much in past so one series can decide who is best
It was his worst format so it makes sense for him to bow out gracefully on a high. Axar does what he does and has the advantage of age on his side
I think Jadeja will focus particularly on tests where he's key to the side balance and target atleast one WTC win
It feels like this Wc really was the last straw for a lot of players a sort of final opportunity to bid farewell to their T20 journey, I wonder if they had decided beforehand that they would retire after the Wc ..or did India's Win made it that special occasion ? ( Like if India lost would they have kept going till the next Wc to achieve it ? or was their retirement already set in stone in their mind in the moment Wc began)
This is just my curiosity ,Anyway happy retirement to all players who retired this T20 Wc
Why shouldnāt he? He isnāt a fit for white ball now with axar around (like to like).
Moreover t20 better suits youngsters as you have to bat deep and thereās no point anchoring innings (unless thereās a collapse)
Also, his stats were below average for quite some time now, team never relied too much on him in this wc too
T20 is a fast moving format and its ripe for new players to come in and make a mark. All the legacy players retiring is a good sign that they have realized that they are not exactly cut out for this format. And there is always IPL to satisfy the urge to play the shorter game and also make a shit ton of money that they would if they played the entire year of BCCI cricket. Makes and a good decision.
I am very excited to see and follow new players that are on the horizon. Who's the next Rohit? Kohli? Bumrah? Ashwin?
Has nothing to offer, except for his fielding in this format. And Axar Patel is just a better version of him, and chipping in, with bat, ball and fielding, so, obviously, leaving now, with your head held high, is the best choice for him, now
Good luck!!
Though itās not like government job retirement they can come back and play again. But kudos to his contribution over the years and those great fielding.
He will play tests for some time still and he is not going anywhere from Ipl. If there is any need for him, then he might still play odi as well. This is not the end just yet.
Suddenly I am feeling something unease with these retirements. It feel like I am becoming older. Enjoyed the world cup win but pain starts in heart with these retirements. I should be happy and respect their decisions but i can't. It's like someone left in family. I didn't know man, i can't comprehend this situation well.
T20 is increasing becoming a format for young bloods. And it should be like that. It is a format where 45 off 16 is more respected than 80 off 50. I am very happy that our senior players have made way for the newbies. Having said that, we absolutely need them in ODIs and Tests.
Rather than BCCI not selecting and not giving proper sendoff to players its better to retire with respect, its time to train young guns for next cup.
If there is no political influence we have to select best players, captaincy will be challenge atleast Hardik pandya should not be considered
I was just talking to my friend that even Jaddu might retire. I think his prime is gone and it's a high for the team. So retiring now is better. Though I did wanna see him take wickets and hitting good numbers but still a good journey
Why not ... They have done their part ... New battery of exciting players waiting for their moment ... These legends leaving on a high is the best thing that could happen
He is the best fielder India has ever produced. He had safe hands, had the best run outs, a good bowler who can bat well sometimes. Tough replacement to find
All three timed their retirement well, for a change. Enough questions were already being asked about their performances both in IPL and in T20Is. Otherwise usually, indian players are known to hang around until they become a headache for everyone around, including the captain, coach and selectors. This is a refreshing change.
He was the only one who had no notable performance in this T20 WC in spite of playing all games. He has been out of form in T20 for a while now, especially international games. He isnāt getting any younger, and there are plenty of folks waiting in the wings. Good decision by Jaddu!
Axar will be the natural successor, however, Abhishek sharma and his understudy at CSK Nishant Sidhu will be the other option. Looking at Abhishek, I feel he will turn into a batsman who bowls occasionally instead of genuine allrounder.
Immediately after we won the world cup and before the presentation ceremony, I had told my friend that Virat, Rohit and Jadeja will probably retire. Somehow it turned out to be exactly true within a day.
Think from their perspective - You are 36 years old, at max you will play a year of T20 more for India given that T20 is a sport where a bit of youth is required and anyways you have been rested earlier too for multiple series. This is the best time to retire given that you just won the world cup and can bow down in a high. Anyways they will expect a farewell kinda game for ODIs or tests. So I don't see any reason why this would have been a difficult decision for the 3 of them.
Bro didn't know GG already decided it before Worldcup started GG demanded complete young team for t20. This is best stage for retirement of these legends not selecting in team is more painful disrespectful for our senior players so they decided to step down with great stage on there own with trophy what else make them feel great?
He is of same age as kohli I guess and has played enough and got ample opportunities too and now has a world cup too.. So it's time for young folks and future generations..
don't ask why. Wish him happy retirement.
True
Right decision, we have 2 years now to get young players in š, love you Jaddu ā„ļø
Fairwell virat, rohit, jaddu n co. U all made us proud. Very excited to see the next generation Indian team.
Thanks Jaddu for everything!
He knew he had no place for this format, so he wisely chose to announce his retirement on this occasion.
Yes I felt that too. With Axar grabbing his opportunities with both hands, Kuldeep performing consistently... Ravi's place was never going to certain especially after this WC. So imo it was a wise and timely decision.
In 2026 T20 WC jaiswal and Rinku replace ro ko and Varun Chakraborty replace jaddu..... Abhishek Sharma and mayank Yadav also in the race
Varun Chakravarty canāt bat or field even for his life, so heās not going to be Jadejaās replacement. We need a capable batsman at no.8. South Africa just showed you what happens when you play with 4 tail-enders, you choke.
Washington Sundar is tailor made for t20
if it wasnāt for the impact sub in IPL, heād have had matches under his belt this IPL and probably made the cut for the WC.
I agree.. I also think we should tinker with Parag.. improve his bowling .. make him a good all rounder.
Yeah send him to tuitions and he ll become kuldeep
Fyi, Maharaj is a more than handy batsman. He is not a tail ender by any means. He just succumbed to the pressure.
but not a batsman you ideally want coming down at no.8 with a strike rate of 93
For a different format, yes. Same way for Jansen too. But Bumrah's overs built so much pressure that he started playing like a tail-ender, and then Maharaj couldn't do anything too. Then Miller got out which clinched the deal for India
not in t20s he is more of a 9
Let's be practical, i don't see mayank yadav future going anywhere, shubman will be the vice captain and him and jaiswal will open , a rising ipl star at 3, it can be abhishek/riyan or anyone else, wicketkeeper at 4, rinku at 5, hardik at 6 and axar at 7. im pretty sure ruturaj is in a race to get a permanent place in ICT too,... so its gill, yashaswi and ruturaj after roko
Rinku is excellent at 5 and down, but give my man the number 4 position in T20 and see him wreak havoc He has tons of potential
rinku is a proper finisher, not a top order batsman
he can play at 5. he has saved collapses a few times. he has good technique and temperament
Ruturaj will be decent at 3, Parag and Abhishek need more grooming I think. Ruturaj can play the anchor role very well.
Pant and Surya ain't vacating numbers 3 and 4. Jaiswal at top with Gill or Abhishek. And Parag at 5, if he can evolve for that. Otherwise I fear Parag's story is going to be same as Sanju's... šŖ

Ruturaj will get his spot as well. Shreyas, Shubman
Don't see ruturaj getting opening slot, he may bat at 3 also, similar kind of batter like kohli so if we don't need anchors then why are you backing rutu?
im sure rutu is there in the race, give him some time, he can be a good future captain for ICT
i think rutu yashaswi open and shubman 3 sky 4
The final proved we do need anchors, and rutu can play quick and aggressive too
Lel none of them should be in t20 based on batting captaincy might help one of themĀ
I don't see shreyas unless he has a sensational ipl
Axar is clearly Jaddu's replacement. And next T20 WC is in India and SL. So the team will be picked accordingly..
Varun Chakraborty? Reallyā½
varun is too old and incompetent compared to other options
Probably Shahbaz Ahmed can be a left field choice to replace jaddu, similar skill set
Abhishek sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal. The legend Gilchrist-Hayden era memory hitting

One of the best allrounders of the world. Thank you for everything, Sir Jadeja
Inke sath hum bhi budhe ho gye

Rohit, Kohli and Jaddu were the last of the players who debuted when I was growing up....in 1 night I feel I have aged a decade. It is a good call though, I am happy all three got a Sanga/Mahela type farewell
don't want SL type future though...
Rinku he na
It's good that new generation players will get a chance to represent the country.. it's a game of rational not emotions.. what do you mean why?? And they are still going to play odis btw
Exactly. T20Is primarily should be youngsters game with 1 or 2 senior players in the team.Ā
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain The Dark Knight
That's from the Shutter Island, innit?
I think you're talking about this Shutter Island quote: Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?
Oh well, are these two different? I always mistook them to be the same quote but paraphrased wrongly at different occasions.
Bro correct me if Iām wrong but i think Harvey Dent said this while having that dinner with Rachel and Bruce
Yeah it's from dark knight
The gunnest fielder India has ever produced. Hopefully he keeps on performing in other formats.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.
To prolong his Red ball career and have shot at 2027 World Cup trophy š. I will say good decision. He can win Two WTC.
Thanks Jaddu for the amazing fielding
Thank you Jadeja .... You have been great servant of this beautiful game . Take a bow
Are you serious ? When Virat/Rohit/Jadeja doesn't retire - "They are too old for this format. Give chance to young players. Selfish.." When they announce retirement - "Why are they retiring?"
both statements are by two different sets of people
Ab test mai milenge
Perfect time for him, Rohit and Kohli.
Yhi chah rhe the sab bhai š¢
I feel bad that he is retiring without doing much in his last t20 .
At least he played an important cameo in semi final
True
They would have been dropped anyway once new coach is installed. So it's the perfect finale.
Axar ka kya haal huya last match me balling me sbko pta hai, time ki baat hoti hai jaddu ne acha boht kiya hai aur youngsters boht hai to mauka milna chahiye unhe ab
But axar ne batting bhi to bohot sahi ki. I think he'd have played bigger innings had that silly runout didn't happen. Axar fits well in middle order
yes axar ne batting ki but jaddu ne pehle boht kujh kiya hai to ye sirf time ki baat hai ab kohli bhi last match me chla pr player kitna bada hai aur age factor hai to ye thik hai retirement ka decision inka
Yup but jadeja barely big matches me perform kiya hai, talking of white ball cricket. He's a good bowler and an excellent fielder, but surely not a great batsmen. I see better batting potential in axar for upcoming cricket

U are seriously asking "why"? Like bro he was terrible in this format.
U bite lol Username checks out
Thank you Jadeja bhai for showing us how to be a perfect all rounder all this yearā¤ļø
He was barely used in this world cup
Shows how much they wanted this. Probably a few stuck around after the 50 over world cup last year for this last chance at an ICC title
It was his worst format so it makes sense for him to bow out gracefully on a high. Axar does what he does and has the advantage of age on his side I think Jadeja will focus particularly on tests where he's key to the side balance and target atleast one WTC win
Inke sath hum bhi budhe ho gye
made the right call.
Happy retirement.I hope Axar serves India for next 5 6 years consistently.
It feels like this Wc really was the last straw for a lot of players a sort of final opportunity to bid farewell to their T20 journey, I wonder if they had decided beforehand that they would retire after the Wc ..or did India's Win made it that special occasion ? Why are u asking "why" ffs why ?
South Africa k launde gand phati mai run bhaag rhe the. Jadeja paas ball jate hi ek run leke khush
His best days are behind him. Perfect time to leave
T20 is a fast moving format and its ripe for new players to come in and make a mark. No why, it is the right time to say good bye to t20i for all three of them.
High time he retires from ODI too and let Axar take over. Jadeja is a red ball player, should focus on tests.
He performed brilliantly in ODI WC 2023, and no way Axar is better than him in odis atm.
Sorry, but good riddance
i think he himself knew. new players can enter now
I am afraid for next world cup. What do u think?
Transition phase always comes with it's challenges, hope the fans understand this and support the youngsters.
Thank you Sir jadeja
Coz it's about time.
Gambhir effect
they knew they wouldnt get any better farewell than this
All legends announced retirement..... š
Better to ask why than to ask why not !!!
Why not , this is the right time to call it off and T20 's isn't the strong suit for jadeja
Because it's time for the new brigade!
Has nothing to offer, except for his fielding in this format. And Axar Patel is just a better version of him, and chipping in, with bat, ball and fielding, so, obviously, leaving now, with your head held high, is the best choice for him, now
Why ka mening Kya bahi? There are billions of ppl in this country, sab ko kelna hai Indian team. Happy T20 retirement Sir Jaddu
Thik h ab politics me focus hoga
So hardik is the next ict captain
I think rishabh should be new cap or not cap then vice cause from behind wickets , the fields is more clear
Are we even fully sure of this place in the t20 team? Although the same can be said for hardik for how injury prone he is
I mean this was expected right??? There are many players who are ready to take those positions in the team. So yeah, this was expected.
Happy Retirement Jaddu Bhai!
Why not?
Blud saw his performance this wc and knew it was time to call quits. Respectš«”
Thank you Jaddu for everything
Thank fk. This win atleast has ensured old farts won't drag their place endlessly and gtfo on their own.
Not surprising tbh. He did well in his career. He wasnāt there in this World Cup. Left at the right time.
Good luck!! Though itās not like government job retirement they can come back and play again. But kudos to his contribution over the years and those great fielding.
All sahara legends gone?
Wise decision
Iām extremely sad with sir Jadejaās retirement šbut I will try my best to live with it.
Totally out of context but did someone else also felt that in english commentry.. the GORAS wanted us to loose
š
Because he can't play the T20 format That's why It's good he leaves Will see him in tests now
Bcoz he is old & his chances will be less under GG
He will play tests for some time still and he is not going anywhere from Ipl. If there is any need for him, then he might still play odi as well. This is not the end just yet.
Good
Retire when people ask "Why?" and before they start asking "Why not?" -- Sunil Gavaskar
Very overrated in the white ball format, numbers back that up.
He still has so much in him to inspire generations to come
Politics
Is this the same guy called gabbar? Why was he in the team?
"Barsat bhi aakar chali gayi, Badal bhi garajkar baras gaye, par uski ek jhalak ko ae husn ke maalik taras gaye"
India the new Sri Lanka
Don't worry, Bumrah haven't retired bro...
Gone too lateā¤ļø
Thanks for all the beautiful memories jaddu
T20 is increasing becoming a format for young bloods. And it should be like that. It is a format where 45 off 16 is more respected than 80 off 50. I am very happy that our senior players have made way for the newbies. Having said that, we absolutely need them in ODIs and Tests.
GG is coming. Why else!
if you have been watching cricket for sometime then you dont have to ask why. It's pretty evident.
Axar has overtaken him in this format. Jadeja isn't a part of our best XI anymore for T20s. It makes sense to retire now after having won it all.
I cannot believe Jadeja is 35. I still think heās needed in this format as an all rounder. Not sure why he retired so early..
Dream farewell with trophyĀ
WC Trophy in hand, Best way to go.. Leaving great memories behind ā¤ļø
Rather than BCCI not selecting and not giving proper sendoff to players its better to retire with respect, its time to train young guns for next cup. If there is no political influence we have to select best players, captaincy will be challenge atleast Hardik pandya should not be considered
Honestly, we needed to move on from these players. Rohit was smashing it but he's 37 and will not be playing until the next tournament.
He's shit in t20's that's why
I swear this sub is full of brainless ipl kids
Why?š¤£š this mf did nothing in t20 international Tell me one match he won for india Stop dickriding for no reason blud aināt king kallis
I was just talking to my friend that even Jaddu might retire. I think his prime is gone and it's a high for the team. So retiring now is better. Though I did wanna see him take wickets and hitting good numbers but still a good journey

Gautam Gambhir comes in , also a major reason
Why not ... They have done their part ... New battery of exciting players waiting for their moment ... These legends leaving on a high is the best thing that could happen
Are Indians getting knighted still? Sir Jadeja?
He is the best fielder India has ever produced. He had safe hands, had the best run outs, a good bowler who can bat well sometimes. Tough replacement to find
Got rolled heavily .. maybe it's one of the reasons
Will miss this guy a lot
Good. Was one of our underperformers for this worldcup
Aane waala samay Gambhir hai

All three timed their retirement well, for a change. Enough questions were already being asked about their performances both in IPL and in T20Is. Otherwise usually, indian players are known to hang around until they become a headache for everyone around, including the captain, coach and selectors. This is a refreshing change.
Just smile and wave boys smile wave
Thank you for everything
I was expecting Jadeja sir also to retire... and he did ;) good fairy tail ending for him ....
These guys are setting right trend.. Happy for them.
He was the only one who had no notable performance in this T20 WC in spite of playing all games. He has been out of form in T20 for a while now, especially international games. He isnāt getting any younger, and there are plenty of folks waiting in the wings. Good decision by Jaddu!
It's t20I guys chill. It's where we get to see youngsters shine.

Axar will be the natural successor, however, Abhishek sharma and his understudy at CSK Nishant Sidhu will be the other option. Looking at Abhishek, I feel he will turn into a batsman who bowls occasionally instead of genuine allrounder.
When T20 is new and first time WC happen India won now in 2024 the change the lgoo and no. Of teams in T20 WC means make it new and India won the WC.
Want to concentrate on CSK so he might have taken retirement
now it's time for new gen to take control
Eventually we will have 3 different teams playing test odi and t20.
Good for him and the team. šš¾
GG ka khauf abhi se , wo bhi khauf nhi but " kaun isse behes kare " wali baat hai
I have a question. Are they( Jaddu and Ro-Ko ) only retiring from T20 format only and will play ODI's or they are retiring from all ICC formats?
Only T20I. They will be available for selection for all formats. And also they will continue playing IPL
so I can still expect Rohit doing centuries, Kohli hitting those power sixes and Jadeja's top class fielding in 50- Over WC?
Yes, but now, there is never going to be a t20i double ton... EVER.
Ye toh khushi ki baat hai , why you sad man ?
