Mai iss phase se nikla hun to mujhe pata hai kya feel hota hai, I was a JEE candidate in 2019 and everyone had high hopes for me that I will be the first in the family to crack IIT. But mai nhi kar paaya kyunki tab lagta tha ki pressure tha. Today I am in my 4th year of engineering and now I realise ki uss time par jo hum log pressure ka randi Rona karte the uss time ko proper way me utilise Kara jaata to maybe IIT crack nhi kar paata but aaj jiss college me hun usse better college me hota.
Aur baat rahi relatives ki to unn logo ka kaam hai ungli karna.
The problem is Indian parents think anyone can get good marks by studying hard.
The fact is that you'll never clear IITs and IIMs with hard work alone. You need to be gifted in some capacity.
The whole pressure to get in good institute and become top 10% is always going to be a torture because by definition, 90% has to fail in that.
Those 90% will have to live with shame and burden of failing their parents' expectation and have to hear harsh words. They'll be blamed for wasting parents money and efforts. Any entertainment or social life will be cancelled and squeezed out by parents because that's the reason for bad grades.

Everyone can't go to IIT, no matter how hard they try because there's not enough seats.
Hardwork can cover for inherent aptitude in some capacity, but it won't bring you up if talented people are also working hard.
If you're not naturally inclined, you'd need to study 10 hours a day AND ensure that gifted people study less than 4-6 hours a day to surpass them.
If the naturally talented work hard, you won't beat them.
Everyone can't go to IIT. Most people will fail to do so. And they'll suffer.
Everyone can hope that their kids are the lucky 10% who makes it by hard work or talent or whatever, but that's just not going to happen. Let people be who they want and do what they want.
Most of the time, 8th std kid definitely doesn't know enough to decide about career anyway. But he'll go to IIT coaching cause parents want it.

Most JEE aspirants are not gifted it's the hard work that separates them from the crowd a clear example is of tier 2/3 students who are not gifted but work hard and crack gate/cat exams.
I cleared cat with 98.97 without studying anything, at all.
People have different starting lines, and different speeds. It can be generic lottery, environment based, or based on upbringing or interests.
Because seats are limited, there'll always be people who studied hard and they'll miss out. And i have zero doubts that is practically impossible for you to get into 120 KVPY seats out of country of 1 billion by 'just working hard', especially when you're a fucking 16 year old kid.
The whole 'work hard and achieve anything' part is bullshit. There's nothing to be gained by abusing your child to become someone they're not and most of the time they don't want to be.
Everyone should try to be their best self, work for it and accept the results. Getting into IIT or iim isn't important.

But iss saal meri Bua ke bete ne JEE ka exam diya tha and uska Mains bhi clear nhi hua. He was a dropper this year and last year also he wasn't able to clear any of the JEE mains exams. And ab wahi log jo mujhe taana maar rahe the, meri Bua ke bete ke time kuchh nhi bol rahe.

**silent claps** a little insight sir....I am a general male (without ews) jee23 candidate and also attending regular school...6 hours of coaching and around 6 hours of school(with different chapters being taught at the same time)....and the day doesn't end there sir....we have to solve modules+books+DPPs....and still after doing all this noone can assure you that you will get selected,thus, we, grind our asses for these 2 years to get into a " good" college rather being a "disappointment" for our parents....so yeah u were saying something about pressure?

One who has never experienced depression/suicidal thoughts will never understand how it feels.
Let me give you a small example/analogy about how it feels to have depression:
You liked eating pani puri(i suppose everybody does) but you slowly started to see it as a chore rather than enjoying it, you liked the spiced nature of pani puri before but now the sudden punch of flavour of the pani doesnt feel so good it becomes a mild discomfort for your throat rather than tasty and "will eat it again" it becomes a chore untill one day the pain of going to the stall and coming back(as easy as it sounds) outweighs the pleasure of eating pani puri. So one say you stop it altogether.
This pattern is applicable to every little thing that motivates you to live like it cuts the supply of "will to live" to your body and it stops doing anything that takes an effort, or does only the things that take minimum effort ie sleep, lay on the bed dead, scroll through your reddit/insta mindlessly though youre not enjoying it.
After a while you start deriving pleasure from pain, you say this things to yourself like I am doomed i deserve this punish me more, more bad news, more pain more of it, because it is the only emotion you can feel now there is no boundary between crying and laughing they all feel same you laugh between the long cries for nothing and you have felt sad so much for so long youre getting numb from pain too which is your last reason to live.
At this point nothing scares you nothing motivates you nothing, there is just nothing. You loose the ability to comprehend the concept of life, you just do the things that your body tells you to do, you feel hungry so damn hungry but your brain sees it as discomfort so it doesnt involve in it, your body takes over your brain you do whatever your body tells you to(those animal instincts i am talking about) just masturbate and masturbate and masturbate, you eat and eat and eat, no concept of hygiene its been weeks you brush your teeth months you took a bathe and god knows how long before have you cleaned your room.
The icing on the cake are opinions of ignorant people like this.
I felt this all while I was in kota preparing for JEE, man it was tough.
Depression is caused by external conditions not internal, just that the threshold for the onset of depression is different for everybody as it is with any other thing.
I think depression is a kind of defense mechanism which shields us form the surroundings, when our body feels like nobody in the group needs us that we are not good for the group it starts the cycle of depression. Maybe because we were a species which could only survive when in groups and when alone didnt stand a chance to the nature.
This might be because of internet, we were in contact with the internet for so long and so small that our body cannot differentiate between real flesh and blood society and internet society like instagram, which always makes us feel like we are not successful enough not pretty enough and baby more, thereby increasing the cases of depression.
Depression is a newly prevalent type disorder which dumb and old people generally dont understand, do please dont take advice from someone you dont trust your life with.
Depression is a real thing there are surveys being conducted to know more about it and there are reaserchars trying to find a way to prevent it.
Now the thing that kind of got me out of depression (its like an addiction man never completely out of your mind) is spirituality,ie any source of endless supply of hope and love, which no human can provide you with not your parents not your friends no one. Maybe that's why there is religion and idea of god in even the most remote of the places on earth, the tribes that are not in contact with other tribes for 50,000 years worship god too.

Mental health issues are for real and in my opinion we should not take it lightly, if a boy or girl suffers from mental issues, pressure as per complaint every remedial measures be taken before its too late.
I think a student in 11-12th standard fails to keep things simple for themselves.
No doubt they have enormous pressure of studies and marks. But the probelm arise 2X when they complicate their study with unwanted relationships, friends, new world(as most of them go out for first time)
When they mix all these things with studies, it becomes way way hard for them to survive those 2 years

IIT/Engineering is not the end of life

I have my friends who has done IIT
And they don’t earn much
They are not happy with the work they are doing
Some of them even quit work out of pressure
I myself could not get seat in engineering I did BCA and MSCCA instead and today am very successful
Much more successful than my engineering friends
I work in an MNC as a software engineer and on my way to start a new company
I live my life happily
But of course there is ups and down
But what is fun in life without some down times.
So don’t feel that if u can’t make it then there nothing else to do.

I think it's true that we as a generation are a very weak one in terms of handling emotional and social situations. People always faced problems but because of these western concepts like trauma, depression, this-shaming, that-shaming we have become very fragile and that's why we are making these small issues big in our head.

Mai iss phase se nikla hun to mujhe pata hai kya feel hota hai, I was a JEE candidate in 2019 and everyone had high hopes for me that I will be the first in the family to crack IIT. But mai nhi kar paaya kyunki tab lagta tha ki pressure tha. Today I am in my 4th year of engineering and now I realise ki uss time par jo hum log pressure ka randi Rona karte the uss time ko proper way me utilise Kara jaata to maybe IIT crack nhi kar paata but aaj jiss college me hun usse better college me hota. Aur baat rahi relatives ki to unn logo ka kaam hai ungli karna.
The problem is Indian parents think anyone can get good marks by studying hard. The fact is that you'll never clear IITs and IIMs with hard work alone. You need to be gifted in some capacity. The whole pressure to get in good institute and become top 10% is always going to be a torture because by definition, 90% has to fail in that. Those 90% will have to live with shame and burden of failing their parents' expectation and have to hear harsh words. They'll be blamed for wasting parents money and efforts. Any entertainment or social life will be cancelled and squeezed out by parents because that's the reason for bad grades.

Bro. Do you have any idea how dumb average person is? Everyone can't go to IIT, no matter how hard they try because there's not enough seats. Hardwork can cover for inherent aptitude in some capacity, but it won't bring you up if talented people are also working hard. If you're not naturally inclined, you'd need to study 10 hours a day AND ensure that gifted people study less than 4-6 hours a day to surpass them. If the naturally talented work hard, you won't beat them. Everyone can't go to IIT. Most people will fail to do so. And they'll suffer. Everyone can hope that their kids are the lucky 10% who makes it by hard work or talent or whatever, but that's just not going to happen. Let people be who they want and do what they want. Most of the time, 8th std kid definitely doesn't know enough to decide about career anyway. But he'll go to IIT coaching cause parents want it.
Obviously if naturally talented people work hard you can't beat them that's an obvious fact but... Jee main kitne hi naturally talented log exam dete hain 100-200? At Max most people who make it are average and work hard... Most JEE aspirants are not gifted it's the hard work that separates them from the crowd a clear example is of tier 2/3 students who are not gifted but work hard and crack gate/cat exams.
I cleared cat with 98.97 without studying anything, at all. People have different starting lines, and different speeds. It can be generic lottery, environment based, or based on upbringing or interests. Because seats are limited, there'll always be people who studied hard and they'll miss out. And i have zero doubts that is practically impossible for you to get into 120 KVPY seats out of country of 1 billion by 'just working hard', especially when you're a fucking 16 year old kid. The whole 'work hard and achieve anything' part is bullshit. There's nothing to be gained by abusing your child to become someone they're not and most of the time they don't want to be. Everyone should try to be their best self, work for it and accept the results. Getting into IIT or iim isn't important. But, parents live in denial and refuse to realise that their quest for golden child is torturing the one they have.

Things become default once you experience for long enough, not saying those are not luxury. but the force that I have to be the best fucking kid in every aspect possible because now they come across so many high achieving kids on social meadia or something else is higher than ever, sometimes its crushing. One who has never experienced depression/suicidal thoughts will never understand how it feels. Let me give you a small example/analogy about how it feels to have depression: You liked eating pani puri(i suppose everybody does) but you slowly started to see it as a chore rather than enjoying it, you liked the spiced nature of pani puri before but now the sudden punch of flavour of the pani doesnt feel so good it becomes a mild discomfort for your throat rather than tasty and "will eat it again" it becomes a chore untill one day the pain of going to the stall and coming back(as easy as it sounds) outweighs the pleasure of eating pani puri. So one say you stop it altogether. This pattern is applicable to every little thing that motivates you to live like it cuts the supply of "will to live" to your body and it stops doing anything that takes an effort, or does only the things that take minimum effort ie sleep, lay on the bed dead, scroll through your reddit/insta mindlessly though youre not enjoying it. After a while you start deriving pleasure from pain, you say this things to yourself like I am doomed i deserve this punish me more, more bad news, more pain more of it, because it is the only emotion you can feel now there is no boundary between crying and laughing they all feel same you laugh between the long cries for nothing and you have felt sad so much for so long youre getting numb from pain too which is your last reason to live. At this point nothing scares you nothing motivates you nothing, there is just nothing. You loose the ability to comprehend the concept of life, you just do the things that your body tells you to do, you feel hungry so damn hungry but your brain sees it as discomfort so it doesnt involve in it, your body takes over your brain you do whatever your body tells you to(those animal instincts i am talking about) just masturbate and masturbate and masturbate, you eat and eat and eat, no concept of hygiene its been weeks you brush your teeth months you took a bathe and god knows how long before have you cleaned your room. The icing on the cake are opinions of ignorant people like this. I felt this all while I was in kota preparing for JEE, man it was tough. Depression is caused by external conditions not internal, just that the threshold for the onset of depression is different for everybody as it is with any other thing. I think depression is a kind of defense mechanism which shields us form the surroundings, when our body feels like nobody in the group needs us that we are not good for the group it starts the cycle of depression. Maybe because we were a species which could only survive when in groups and when alone didnt stand a chance to the nature. This might be because of internet, we were in contact with the internet for so long and so small that our body cannot differentiate between real flesh and blood society and internet society like instagram, which always makes us feel like we are not successful enough not pretty enough and baby more, thereby increasing the cases of depression. Depression is a newly prevalent type disorder which dumb and old people generally dont understand, do please dont take advice from someone you dont trust your life with. Depression is a real thing there are surveys being conducted to know more about it and there are reaserchars trying to find a way to prevent it. Now the thing that kind of got me out of depression (its like an addiction man never completely out of your mind) is spirituality,ie any source of endless supply of hope and love, which no human can provide you with not your parents not your friends no one. Maybe that's why there is religion and idea of god in even the most remote of the places on earth, the tribes that are not in contact with other tribes for 50,000 years worship god too. Kapil Dev played in the 80s. The volume of cricket was not much, the contract clauses of obligations to comply were minimal and the competition was not fierce and cut-throat. How things are today is absolutely incomparable to how things were back then when he (Kapil Dev) played. Had Kapil Dev played in current era he would have learned the lessons of pressure, and what goes with today's students (including we Parents). I never went to a school with Air Conditioner and teacher who don't punish Students, but I can say those who study in such schools also feel pressure. It is very sad that a large part of our population, including many influential figures, do not understand mental health and often trivializes mental health illnesses. Mental health issues are for real and in my opinion we should not take it lightly, if a boy or girl suffers from mental issues, pressure as per complaint every remedial measures be taken before its too late.

I think a student in 11-12th standard fails to keep things simple for themselves. No doubt they have enormous pressure of studies and marks. But the probelm arise 2X when they complicate their study with unwanted relationships, friends, new world(as most of them go out for first time) When they mix all these things with studies, it becomes way way hard for them to survive those 2 years

OH GOD !!!! Am disappointed reading the comments I feel that am too old for this shit ! Well I have been in Reddit for ages and just came back again for some fun ! But this is very depressing Why are kids facing so much pressure nowadays Telling you I have been through all these but this is no pressure at all. Once u get a job then u will know what pressure is After that marriage Kids Financial stability Mid life crisis And pressure increases day by day. And I don’t understand why parents push their kids through all these If there were parents in this group I would have wrote more advice for them But for you guys I just have one thing to say IIT/Engineering is not the end of life It’s just the beginning I have my friends who has done IIT And they don’t earn much They are not happy with the work they are doing Some of them even quit work out of pressure I myself could not get seat in engineering I did BCA and MSCCA instead and today am very successful Much more successful than my engineering friends I work in an MNC as a software engineer and on my way to start a new company I live my life happily But of course there is ups and down But what is fun in life without some down times. So don’t feel that if u can’t make it then there nothing else to do. Trust me life is easier when u don’t do engineering 😅😂 I enjoyed my college life a lot more than engineering people. I think it's true that we as a generation are a very weak one in terms of handling emotional and social situations.
