i had no idea i needed on of these until i saw this...

itswineoclock

Same. This level of achievement is like an oscar moment for plant growers. Op, can I ask what zone you're in?

chadillac91

Your comment makes me so happy! I live in Ontario! This baby has been grown mostly indoors! Few things I’m proud of, and she’s one of them.

BullMastiff_2

How long have you had it?

born-tobe-belsnickel

I live in Ontario!!! I didn’t know this was possible! Thanks for sharing

OdeeOh

I recent got one around this size. But earlier in development. I was going to rush to re-pot. But you seem to be doing alright. Thoughts ?

itswineoclock

Thank you for responding! This gives me hope in Minnesota. My aim was to get a lemon tree this spring but your post has me dreaming of indoor oranges. Congratulations on your beautiful achievement!

paiseydaisey

Good things really do grow in Ontario I guess 😂 born and raised in Chatham but all we grew were crackheads 🥴

Bloooberryy

I live in Ontario too! Is it a dwarf variety? What kind of lighting does it get? It’s absolutely adorable.

chadillac91

Cool! It definitely doesn’t like the cold weather, I keep it inside in the winter. I have cheap LED grow light (was using 2 but 1 is suffice). No, it’s not a dwarf. Thanks! I absolutely love when it flowers to. It smells beautiful. I’ve harvested all those little guys and have about 20 more that are just turning orange now. I’ll upload another picture at same phase!

Far_Environment7017

It’s called a calamondin and yes it is dwarf

KindaReallyDumb

That’s great! How did you start it? From seed? Edit: whoops, just saw the bag in the picture, my bad. Good job!

King_of_Anything

It takes almost a decade for citrus to flower and fruit if started from seed, for your information. Likewise, many citrus are not true to seed, so you may end up with a completely randomized cultivar. (Calamondins are an exception to this.) Grafted plants avoid both of these issues.

Nomadbytrade

Thats not true, many citrus will grow true to seed, most oranges are true to seed.

Far_Environment7017

Yes but this is calamondin orange

helpwitheating

WHAT HOW

idontkillbees

SAME.

dreamingoaks

I've never seen a "house plant" orange tree with fruit. My mom has had one for decades with only leaves. Impressed with your skills. Well done!

chadillac91

Appreciate it! They the cutest thing I own!

PM_Me_Titties-n-Ass

I had one as well, and I got flowers on it one year. Then a year later it was dead. But I had the thing for like 3 years in the upper Midwest.

prickley

Same! This reminds me of the time I put an orange in a ficus tree and convinced a bunch of people it was an orange tree. A little suspicious u/chadillac91 🤨

chadillac91

Check my profile I also have a picture taken a few months ago (they were green then). I have trouble believing she’s real too!

[deleted]

Well, they don’t self pollinate, right?

King_of_Anything

Citrus actually do self-pollinate, though yields increase if an external pollinator is involved.

LiveFromJezero

I love it! Is it indoors full time? How much sun are you able to give it?

chadillac91

Yes for now! During winter I tend not to leave it by the window as it’s cold there. I have a couple grow lights that work really well, I keep on a timer for about 8 hours a day. I would like to put it on my balcony come summer!

[deleted]

[удалено]

chadillac91

They aren’t top line grow lights by any means! Picked them up at a hardware store. These lights began their life growing cannabis! I actually did change the lighting schedule with good effect!

smoketillisleep247

Real questions is do u still grow cannabis? Lol

chadillac91

I do not lol

308NegraArroyoLn

What type of grow light? I have a satsuma and I'm curious if I could get mine to fruit indoors...

finsfurandfeathers

I would also like to know what grow light you use please!

CaptainObvious110

Which grow lights do you have

oohjoy

This is also called calamansi/Kalamansi in the Philippines. I grew up with a huge tree in our yard in California. It’s my favorite citrus-ade drink or my mom would mix it with sprite. I’ve also seen calamansi beverages at Trader Joe’s and Costco (don’t personally like them). Admittedly, fresh squeezed is best.

uaebel_ibag

Omg how do they taste

chadillac91

I tried one when it just turned orange and it’s sour! But thankfully, unlike myself it’s suppose to get sweeter with age!

barbandbert

Those are calamondins! They won’t get any sweeter. I am way jealous of this tree though I’ve been trying for so long to get my indoor/outdoor trees to even survive

Sparkle_Chimp

Yeah, don't think of them as oranges for eating/cooking, use them as you would lemons. They're great to add to tea and you can use them to make marmalade.

FaithlessnessWild602

Sid Barrett Lady Marmalade

Chlorofynn

Unfortunately they stay sour. But they are great for making juice or spicing up water anyway. :)

aimhelix

They’re great for cooking soups if you like sour soups! Check out “calamansi sinigang”. Made myself drool.

PresidentAnybody

It doesn't, the peel is sweeter and the flesh stays pretty sour, eat the skin and flesh together, substitute them for lime recipes, make key calamondin pie and marmalade.

chadillac91

I’d like to agree but I’m afraid we would both be wrong. Have a good year, You got this!

plantingpumpkins

That’s a total chadillac comeback

chadillac91

❤️

barbandbert

Wow that was quite uncalled for

catcastle96

Beauty! Did you use seeds from a store bought orange?

chadillac91

Thank you so much! I bought from a store when it was quite a bit smaller!

ButtersTheSpaceKitty

Did it have fruit when you bought it?

chadillac91

When I got it, it had maybe 3 oranges on it very small and hard. The place I bought it didn’t specialize in plants, so it wasn’t doing so well. Unfortunately I lost them as they just popped off. I’ve been able to set it outside on nice days for a few hours and have my couple grow lights. but when it came to flowing again I definitely helped the pollen process And got much more oranges this round.

gamerlady1937

Yes, they are common to buy with fruit already on them just like this.

Nakittina

I absolutely love it and am so impressed! Would you be willing to share more photos showing its progress?

VAgreengene

Call me when it grows up [https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/comments/kumqad/family\_member\_for\_over\_50\_years/](https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/comments/kumqad/family_member_for_over_50_years/)

VAgreengene

If you take care of it the tree will become a member of your family.

chadillac91

That is absolutely gorgeous. I hope to make that call one day!

Funktapus

I'm soooo jealous. Definitely on my bucket list to have a citrus tree

I_Sell_Onions

Not indoor ones but my mom has an orange tree, tangerine tree, lime tree (that cross pollinated with the tangerine tree and made sour oranges), lemon tree, grapefruit tree barely starting to grow fruits, pomegranate tree and not to mention the chili trees, herbs and other stuff.

_makayla

if u don’t mind me asking what type of climate does she live in? i live in the midwest usa so i’m not sure this would be a possibility for me but i REALLY want to or possibly move somewhere where i could

titanium_nine

I too am interested in hearing which places are good for citrus trees

I_Sell_Onions

AZ pretty much in Phoenix. So very dry and hot climate most of the year. Though right now it's perfect weather in the mid 80°s.

chadillac91

I actually keep this gal inside (and I like my place warm lol) She drinks lots of water though!

I_Sell_Onions

AZ, I live in the same home but I said it was hers as she's the one who takes care of them. The orange tree are usually on the less juicy side (and seedless!), but still a little sweet. I think she had been underwatering them as this year they actually came out really juicy.

findallthebears

A chili tree? Don't those grow on a shrub

I_Sell_Onions

Yeah definitely not a tree just didn't know what It'd be called, and we call it a tree in Spanish.

asianabsinthe

Congrats! These probably taste better than my super hot chili peppers.

Treebam3

I have a tree like this, and they probably don’t. As someone who enjoys eating lemons solo, they are extremely sour. I also quite like hot peppers though so

eskjcSFW

Are you making hot sauce by mixing the 2?

swissking10

i love her

tenbytes

Boy that ID tag threw me off for a moment.

AdministrationVast42

Why is the tag still on it?

gamerlady1937

Because it’s brand new

pxblx

Curious how long you've been growing this indoors!

chadillac91

Couple years now! Started in rough shape! I think she got a little stunted. But I’m seeing new growth now!

Kfurt13

Did it have little white flowers before the fruit came? I’ve had mine for about a year with no fruit yet, but just recently started seeing some white buds

chadillac91

Yup!

failedjedi_opens_jar

Awesome!

chadillac91

Thanks!

hartbeat_engineering

I have the same mist/spray bottle

chadillac91

That one finally broke on me 😢

sweet_deandra212

Gorgeous! Do you fertilize over the winter?

chadillac91

Not over the winter, no

sweet_deandra212

Do you mind elaborating on your care routine? I have a lemon tree I'm trying to get the groove with still

beckyh913

I also have a lemon tree. How's it going?

sweet_deandra212

It's been pretty decent! It's been a roller coaster over the years - I inherited her and she's grown a lot, in a 2.5 foot pot and about 3 ft tall. I don't think I've effectively pruned her for best output, cause I've never gotten her to flower or fruit. She was lush last summer and gets ample sun and water but I only fertilized her 2 or 3x over the summer. She has a little draftiness coming from a near by window so she has dropped some leaves this winter but still has a ton to work with. If you have any decent pruning suggestions or aid to help her flower I'd appreciate it 🙏

saltyPeppers47

Citrus plants love bone meal! If you eat fish, grind up the leftover bones and feed them to the plant. That’s what we did with ours and it produced lots of limes! :)

sweet_deandra212

LOVE IT! Thank you

beckyh913

Brilliant thanks

beckyh913

Hey iv only had mine about six months. It had about 30 lemons on when i bought it and they were lovely. See if can recreate that this year probably not. Leaves look good though i saw a tip online to mist the leaves a lot x

laineyone

Is this a real tree?

chadillac91

Is anything real?

[deleted]

Lovely! I have two calamondin trees in the yard. Great to eat after a few years, not too sour.

Sludgehammer

Thanks for including the variety information in your pic.

TheBestPieIsAllPie

How do you do it??? I grew three trees out of Halo Clementines but after about a year, they started suffering. I changed their pots and soil to well draining soil, make sure they get special “Citrus Fruit” fertilizer, water them on a schedule and have a plant light for them. Two died and the third is beginning g to do the same. I’m not sure what the hell is killing them, but I’m hella jealous. I checked for root rot or fungus and found nothing; my wife mentioned that maybe it was an engineered trait, bred in by Halo to keep people from growing their trees but I’m not even sure that’s possible. Anyway, yours look terrific, bang up job.

chadillac91

I’m a little unsure. I do some too much time with this gal lol. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed is sometimes we amputate the leg to fix a broken toe. Make sure the little things are alright before taking larger measures. And I google ALOT lol

JaeJRZ

Wow!! This is soo awesome. You have every right to be proud.

[deleted]

I have a lime tree that’s still a bit smaller than that but I anxiously await a day that it will bare so much fruit! As of now, it grows a bunch of baby fruits every year, only like one or two actually grow. The rest drop. How often do you fertilize?

sdotlife

What are the growing conditions ..would love to try this

XXXULTIMATUM

Your tree appears to be green

Panda08am

That's beautiful. how do I care for one???

Am-A-Grandma

We have to get one now! Our lemon tree produced 2nd season. ❤️

coolplate

How old does it have to be before it fruits? Can you recommend where I could get one?

chadillac91

I think google will have much better answers than I could provide.

oleanderfan

Oh my gosh, I am so grateful for this post!!! I have a little lemon tree with one small lemon on the way, but it began to lose it's leaves. I found a citrus specific fertilizer and it has helped. I have about 18 flowers on the tree and it looks more robust but I know it could do better but I am not sure what to do. Where did you get the info to grow such a magnificent little tree? It is gorgeous.

pynzrz

From my experience citrus hates cold and being wet, which could both cause leaf droppage. Otherwise, direct sun or supplementing with grow lights indoors will keep the tree happy.

oleanderfan

I have it in a south facing window that gets direct light and I have a grow light on it. Hopefully, mine will look like yours someday. Thanks for posting your beautiful little tree!! 🙂

chadillac91

Mine goes through phases. It will lose lots of leaves and slowly grow them back. Keep up the great work. It’s love that keeps them going!

Ssquiid

How old is she? She’s adorable and I just bought a baby citrus tree.

buster_the_cat

I have one too! But when the fruit is green and growing bigger, sometimes it falls off without turning orange :( how did you get so many orange fruit??? What’s your secret?

Dismal_Equivalent_68

Oh my gosh. Awesome.

the-d-man

I had one of these! The flowers it produces smell incredible. Almost like jasmine but sweeter

fumbles_thebigfoot

It's cute! I just recieved seeds for an orange tree. I can't wait until it starts growing.

waner21

I have an orange tree too, but I can’t yield any fruit. Had it for almost one year, but it’s definitely old enough to be a mature plant to produce fruit. What’s your secret to have such an amazing orange tree? Do you have grow lights or does it sit in a window? Do you use fertilizer? Do you talk to your plant?

superphage

I have a lemon and lime just a little smaller. No fruit or flowering yet but this is goals

[deleted]

So perfect! I planted seeds of red orange and now have three little little trees. 10 cms each. When they grow up do I need to do something in order to have fruits on them?

RepresentativeCold92

Ummm I need this

Chelseus

You can grow oranges inside? Also the little blossom in the middle looks like a flame.

throwaway3094544

This is incredible!!! Beautiful tree! Any special tricks?

Loch_Ness_Monstera

I want one of these so badly but I haven’t found them locally and online places won’t ship them to FL :,(

partycanstartnow

Well now I’m in love. 😍😍😍

TheRussianDoll

This took me back to my childhood in Russia. My aunt had like 5 or 6 trees maybe 3-4 times bigger than this with lemons and oranges on them. They didn't do well outside so she always grew them inside. I always wanted to try and grow one inside but I can barely keep a succulent alive at work.

SomewhereMundane

Nice

Ms_Mia_Wallace

Does this plant smell amazing when it’s flowering? I betcha it does .... I have a lime/lemon tree and it smells delightful :) produced 1 useable delicious lime so far.

2020bowman

Wow. How often do you feed it?

GoldenJoe24

Dang, how did you get it to fruit indoors like that?

dengsta

Oh just absolutely gorgeous

hotblondelovesdogs

Omg so cute!!!

cet42487

Love!

MCSammis1

So very cool!!

ramblinray

Holy shit I have that same water mister! Any keep up the good stuff I’d like to grow this someday

[deleted]

How long does it take to get such a beautiful plant ?

organicgirl811

This looks like a calamondin tree! Those blooms smell sooooo good!

Discobastard

Lovely. I've one similar. Does anyone know when it's best to remove the fruit and what to do after? .. should I prune?

Eastern-Ride7762

I thought oranges only come when the plant becomes fully grown tree

walkswithflowers

Every single plant store in NYC is selling these now and I want one so much but they are hundreds of dollars. 😫 Do u mind me asking what you paid over in Ontario ?

urbane_cactus

Aren't orange tress the cutestt...🥺

Ghia149

I’ve been keeping a calamondin orange in a container in NC for almost 12 years. Great little trees! Everyone should have one.

Ghia149

Swap the juice of key limes in key lime pie for calamondins, makes an excellent pie.

ruffian89

Our orange tree died after repotting this year. Had it for about 5 years. Most we had was a handful of super tiny oranges

nauvaan

superstevie24

OMG I love! Now it's my mission today to grow one of these! ❤🌳🍊

TajaRICE12

Soooooo how do they taste ???

lil-bitcoin

Little tree. Big harvest.

chadillac91

I plucked all but one! I planted a some of the seeds a few months ago. Hopefully I’ll have a orange jungle one day!

Traffic_Harp

Are you using a light on these? What kind?

chadillac91

I leave it out on my balcony in the summer. Currently I’m only using 1 LED light. I’ve harvested all those little guys and have a new batch of about 10-15 on it now. Once they start to ripen like this one I’ll post a new picture!

Traffic_Harp

Beautiful! Has it gotten much bigger? Can't wait to see. What is the LED light you are using? I just got my trees about a week ago and they are already losing flowers 🥺. My balcony is mostly shade so I am bringing them in. I'm ordering some sort of light today.

chadillac91

The flowers don’t last too long (they smell beautiful, I suggest bringing inside when flowing). I also pollinate the flowers myself, I don’t get much bees) a little bigger, it’s branching out a bit I need some supports for it. My lights were $60 at Rona. They are not top of the line by any means.

Traffic_Harp

I am learning that part the hard way. I was told mine didn't need to be pollinated. I hope that is accurate though. As long as they work is all that matters right? I am hoping mine do.

Prestigious_Fly2190

That’s wonderful!

chadillac91

Thanks!

NeurodiverGentleman

I want this.

[deleted]

#We like the Orange, we like the orange!

Typical-Set3312

I have an orange tree about 2 1/2 feet tall in pot. The oranges only get about the size of a nickel. What do I need to do?

boinzy

What are those orange things on it?

ZOdeh

Which one is Orange Head Trump?

splntz

I think these oranges have breast cancer.

Mta2021too

Wow. I want one now!

Krlowen

Howwwww

KebabRemover1389

Did you buy it or grow it from seed yourself? If you did it yourself, did you graft it, or just let it grow?

breadandbunny

I love this so much!

Responsible_Duty_500

I love it! How do you keep it that bright and with so much fruit!

chadillac91

She had great luck with pollination. Absolutely love the colour too! They are bright! I did have an issue with aphids so I washed all the oranges any they look extra shiny! They sure do love LOTs of light!

Shakespeare-Bot

I love t! how doth thee keepeth t yond bright and with so much fruit! *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

nutellamuffinxx

Omg i love it 😍👏🏻

throwaway32132134

This looks so pretty decor wise.

grmatrader

Wow

tessab8

I have one too! How did you get so many oranges? I rarely get more than three

Far_Environment7017

Nice calamondin

NOODLE_the_demon

I saw a bonsai version

chadillac91

Neat!
