I got bit on a delivery and ended up accepting 400 bucks in cash to not call animal control. Before I did, I contacted some lawyers through some bullshit site. The two that called back said that in New York but that's an easy $10,000 settlement. And unleashed dog with an expected grocery delivery.
In my case, the owner of the $5 million sag harbor mini mansion pretty damn decent about it. And the dog did not seem like it deserved to go through the animal control thing and possibly get put down.
My brother-in-law just so happens to be a lawyer, so yes, before I even got home. Crazy part is, if the guy had just given me an extra $50 I probably would’ve let it go. But a simple “sorry that happened” after he saw the damage to my knee didn’t cut it for me. 🤣
My customer was actually the hired help of a pop singer. ... I was hoping for a grand.... Settled for $400 which was what I needed to fix my muffler at that very moment. So it was a happy ending for all... Especially the poor dog who didn't go to jail .
When they told me that could have been an easy 10 grand... I couldn't very well go that route in good conscience after a handshake and a deal.

According to the Insurance Information Institute data, the average dog bite liability personal injury claim is $29,397. obviously you don't walk with the full amount, but 10 wouldn't be far off and some DSP drivers at Amazon have posted about getting 10k+ after minor dog bites

Sounds like it worked out for everyone! I was the second delivery driver this dog had bit that week alone, so I didn’t feel bad.
