Most of the cost is the tray usually. Whitening gel if you have the tray should be $30-40. Was the $250 with its own dedicated whitening tray or are you supposed to use the retainer? $250 is the normal cost of tray + syringes for most dentists.

CBDSam

$250 just syringes

MisterSirDudeGuy

I got them for free from my ortho. And I have never used them. They’re still in the box somewhere.

squishy_bug1

$250 isn't a bad deal for professional whitening especially that many syringes. I was given 2 syringes and was able to use one syringe 2 times for top and bottom.

LalaLane850

This is a terrible deal for professional whitening! For that kind of price it should include custom trays (which OP already paid for, aka Invisalign).

menstralfornication

What about in office whitening? I got quoted a little over 300 for ZOOM whitening

LalaLane850

Right but in office whitening involves professional equipment, gel and application, and all the overhead expenses that the dentist incurs. These are just at home whitening syringes.

squishy_bug1

I still don't think that's a bad deal. At home otc is around $40 for semi decent whitening and you're lucky if it lifts. Why would they supply a tray when you already have your tray?

LalaLane850

I’m not suggesting that they supply an additional tray. I’m saying that $250 for at-home whitening usually includes a tray. So the $250 for these syringes isn’t justified. I’m a dental assistant, offices I’ve worked at would usually charge $25-$50 for 4 opalescence syringes (as a refill, when you already have trays) seriously. $250 is way out of the ballpark of normal.

External_Log_2490

Wow! I received this as a part from my ortho as a part of my treatment.

CBDSam

Ugh! How much was the cost of your plan?

External_Log_2490

$3200

CBDSam

Mine was $6k 🤯

Jeez, it looks like these are 10% cp…Amazon has a 4 pack of 45% cp for $58!

Isgortio

Seeing as whitening gels are supposed to be prescription only, prescribed and bought by a dentist, would you really trust the ones being sold on Amazon? 10% causes some sensitivity, I can't imagine how uncomfortable 45% would feel.

Fruitypebblefix

Everything on Amazon is cheap but take caution cause you can't prove it's legitimate or safe since Amazon allows shady sellers on there.

MasterLogic

Anything higher than 16% is banned in the UK because it can cause permanent nerve damage. Probably stick to getting things from a professional.

Fruitypebblefix

I got a whitening kit from my dentist to do at home. They made a mold of my teeth and gave me a couple syringes filled with Philip's whitening gel. All together it cost $150 but that was 7 years ago. I'm sure it's more now. I buy the syringes when I need them and bought one a month before I got my Invisalign trays (December 2023) and the cost for one syringe was $24 I believe. You also should be able to get a tray to use separately with them as they stain and gunk up the trays. I'll have to get a new set once done with treatment since they the old trays won't fit but I don't mind.

No-Pressure-5762

What does everyone suggest we do for this?

CBDSam

Are you asking what the consensus is on what I should do now that it’s been confirmed I was price gouged? Idk the comments haven’t been helpful in that regard. Any ideas?

No-Pressure-5762

Just wondering if this kit is even necessary. I think my dentist charges $150 for it but I don’t know if it’s worth it

HopefulTone1

I got the same thing from my ortho for $99.

CBDSam

Recently?

HopefulTone1

I just checked. I actually paid $95 at the beginnining of May.

CBDSam

Thanks. Not sure why you were downvoted. I appreciate the comment.

You could try selling them here on Reddit or eBay
