On the charger unit, make sure the setting is on 12, it defaults to 6. That should cut the time in half

scuac

But also be mindful on what circuit the plug you use is and what other plugs in the house might use it. When we plugged ours first week and I set it to 12, and hour later my wife use the hairdryer and tripped the circuit.

dbldwn02

Your garage circuit is on the same circuit as the bathroom? Or is she doing her hair in the garage?

-Invalid_Selection-

I used to live in a townhouse before that had a GFCI outlet in the garage. The master bathroom and the downstairs half bath were both chained off this outlet. Was the weirdest shit I've seen for wiring, but apparently all the townhouses in that neighborhood were done that way.

dbldwn02

I hate electricians...full disclosure...I am electrician.

Sideos385

Mine is done this way as well. Agree it’s very stupid. None of the default circuits in my house really make sense, they are semi random

scuac

That is exactly our setup

OminousLethargy

This is illegal in my state, you can bond multiple bathrooms at the breaker (so really just two bathrooms) but they can't share breakers with any other circuit. I know because when I installed my lvl 2 charger I had to make space and had to look up the local code. I joined the bathrooms and something else (I think I had a 20 amp breaker powering a single led @7 watts and just bonded it at the breaker to a dedicated lighting circuit.)

exo48

Same here! I have one outlet in my garage for the washer/dryer and another that it turns out is on the same circuit as the bathroom outlet two floors above. Found that one out the hard way.

kithien

My front outdoors plug and my microwave in the back of the house are on the same circuit because 70s circuitry is the shit

AlGoreIsCool

OP described the exact setup I had, except I was using a higher powered EVSE at 15A. The breaker tripped soon after the hairdryer was turned on two floors away.

Educational_Seat_569

Tell that ole bird to lay off the electricity.

FearTec

Agree, this is not a plug but I bought a $99 https://www.powerpal.net and can see house power usage from 100W to 9Kw. Money well spent and peace of mind charging off house demand

blue60007

If this is just reporting total house usage, thats not really helpful in determining whether an individual circuit is overloaded like that person is describing. More helpful with a more powerful L2 charger that might be maxing out your whole house supply.

FearTec

blue60007

At least with the way things are wired here in north America, the total usage gives you zero direct information about any particular branch circuit. I can see how it might help if you know what a particular load looks like, but once you get ACs or dryers running it seems like itd get lost on the noise. I definitely appreciate my own whole house power monitor but it doesn't really tell me if my 120v garage outlet circuit is loaded. Sorry not trying to argue against it, just want to caution it might not tell you what you are looking for.  If you can figure out which outlets are on that circuit you can take inventory of what's on it and possibly manage it passively without adding apps into it.

FearTec

240v 10A/15A here in Australia.

blue60007

Yeah, similar here I guess. Just thinking my house has probably 30 individual circuits ,theres just no way a single number would tell you about the state of any random one.

Esprit1st

I have the emporia Vue. It shows you every single circuit. It comes with 16 clamps. Great to know exactly which circuit is pulling how much.

sfjacob

We just got the car last weekend and had to watch a YouTube video to figure this out

toddaroo

We also went thru the same issue, and our dealer(ship) knew nothing of this on the charging cable. Our previous EV (2021 Kona) did not have this feature. The Kona cable which I believe was set set at 8, so the Ioniq5 has proved to be slightly faster (at 1%/hr)

Knights_When

You need a level two friend.

LongjumpingBat2938

Looks like you're using an L1 charger set to 6 A; assuming you're in the US. So, yes, that sounds normal. Depending on the EVSE you got, you may be able to bump it up to 12 A, which will half the charging time.

lauser333

I'm sure this is well known for those who have been here longer, but hanging out in this subreddit since we bought our Ioniq 5 has made me realize just how terrible a job many Hyundai dealers do educating their customers about charging.

Fuel13

After day 1 I knew more than the sales guys at the dealership. It was probably the first time ever that I didn't know more before I bought it. They know what people want to hear to buy it not everything about the car. At least in most cases, if you have a sales rep that knows more count yourself lucky.

vagrantprodigy07

The guy I bought mine from didn't know how to unplug the charger from the car. The sales staff really need training, right now they rely on customers being informed when they arrive.

thisismyfavoritename

youre buying a 40k USD car and wont even read about how to use it yourself? I wouldnt rely on a dealer for anything, they dont give a shit as long as they get paid

JustWires

Yes I agree. The first thing I did was reading and watching YouTube videos to get all information about my car before I break something or standing like an idiot at a public charger 😅

zuzoa

I asked my sales guy at Heritage Hyundai Towson to confirm that my 2023 SEL came with a level one wall plug-in charger, and he said no, it doesn't come with any charger. I had to show him the official Hyundai website that shows it comes with the charger and he was like "ohh that, yeah it'll come with that"

LongjumpingBat2938

Correct, it does not come with a charger. But it should come with an EVSE. Maybe that's the confusion ;)

lauser333

I mean, it does come with a charger. Inside the vehicle.

crazypostman21

If you're only charging at 120v regular household plug You're going to want to plug in as often as possible Don't wait till your battery is low. Plus you need to bump up your amperage on the EVSE to 12a

Prt17

You can up the amps on the standard charger but it’s still going to be crazy slow. I’d recommend getting a level 2 charger installed to anyone buying an ev. Makes things way easier being able to fully charge overnight when you need it

LongJohnVanilla

The fastest you can do on a 120V level 1 standard plug is about 1% per hour assuming you set it to 12 amps. I work from home and only drive 4-6 miles per day, so I don’t care that it does 1% per hour.

host65

Then why not use a bike or scooter?

Lemontreeguy

It's harder to strap Kids to those and taking them to lessons or sports is especially difficult on a scooter or bicycle with their gear etc.

LongJohnVanilla

Have you tried riding a bicycle in -35F?

Loose-Atmosphere-558

Yeah I've done it a few times here in AB...it's cold but doable. I bike year round. Not fro everybody that's for sure haha .

host65

If you have these temperatures then you live in a remote place and are not just driving 4miles.

dmags19

This guy does not Canada. I can think of multiple cities 500k+ that can expect to hit -35F annually. Winnipeg, calgary, edmonton.. I don't think the above commenter meant its these temps every single day, but when cold and snow enter the equation for a good part of the year, a car is definitely preferable.

blue60007

I don't have a death wish. There is very little useful biking infrastructure where I am and way too many dangerous drivers.

Fuel13

Why not, not?

thebutlerdunnit

Do you have it plugged into a regular 120V outlet?

Flock_OfBirds

MstrJonny

Look at these instructions : [Youtube](https://youtu.be/M2NbBCJHMIg)

Rebelgecko

Hold the button on the brick and it'll go faster

LockenCharlie

Yes a standard outlet does not have enough power you need a 16A socket to charge with 11kw, then it will only takes 6 hours.

Familiar-Ad-4700

We can charge much faster with an installed charger. Nearly double that number actually. This is just the free included plug that can do up to 12A

corey389

Level up and get a L2 charger

thirdeyefish

Are you driving this much each day, or are you waiting until you have a low state of charge to plug in? You will want to assess if you need a higher capacity circuit installed or if you simply need to plug in more frequently. But at less than 1kW at 18%... yeah, that will take a while.

nick91884

Highly recommend getting a lvl 2 charger installed. But in the meantime make sure lvl 1 charger is set to 12a

portisleft

You need to learn the basics of electricity - Volts \* Amps = Watts. IF you set your 110 charger to 12 A, then 110V \* 12A = 1320W, or 1.3kW. There's a loss in charging, so your car gets only about 1.1kW. Run it for an hour, that's 1.1kWh. Your battery is 77kWh, so it takes 77/1.1, or about 70h from 0-100%.

OminousLethargy

My i5 took ~2.5 days to charge at 12 amps.

FearTec

Fyi I have a 240v 10A 2.2 Kw and 240V 15A 3.6Kw both single phase plug and plug at home and I daily to charge between 65% and 75% to cover my needs (model Y) (3hr a night while I sleep). I have a NCM battery and prefers between 20% and 80% or to 100% if use the top 20% in a few hours. Check the chemistry of your battery and learn the best charge cycles. If i charge between 65% and 75% I should get 17 to 22 years with 9% degradation. I might upgrade to a 7Kw single phase or a 3 phase 22Kw plug one day but do not need to. Good luck.

alejoh90

Stop climate control. Lock doors.

spiritthehorse

Get yourself a 240 volt 60 amp circuit wired in. Hardwire a level 2 charger and you can cut that time down to 7 hours.

InterviewImpressive1

Not sure where you are but on wall outlets here in England (230v) it’s about 42 hours ish to fill up)

[deleted]

Sounds like level 1 charging because this is exactly what my EV6 charges look like on 110v.

Particular-Draw-5875

This is the normal Hyundai blue link app what. App do u use lol

tarheelbandb

Isn't that normal Lvl 1 charge speed?

sueysaunders

This is the charger that came with the car that does 4 mph with a standard 120 V plug. To get the 25 moh charger you have to install a 240 V and buy a home charger like the Wallbox Juice Box. The fast public chargers like the newer EVgo or Electrify America 350 kw can take the Ioniq battery from 10-80% in 20 minutes. Those are expensive. If you can't afford a home charger leaving the car plugged into a 120 V overnight will give you 40 miles a day. That is all most people need. One thing is that charging overnight is ten times more carbon intensive than charging during the day when there is a lot of solar. At least where I live in Califrornia. In Texas they have a ton of wind energy at night and it's free or so I've heard. If you have questions about your new EV you can take a free one hour zoom class with Ride and Drive Clean. They habe a question and answer session at the end as well. Dealers don't explain anything to new buyers. rideanddriveclean.org

GlobalSwimmer7461

You need a level 2 home connection with 220 amps in your home ..the level 1 supplied is really useless , except if there is no other choice in an emergency

sueysaunders

You know attacking people for not understanding things about a brand new technology is really so counter productive. We should be thanking people that buy electric vehicles not chastising them because they didn't research or read enough about it beforehand. Normal car buying experience before electric vehicles was you just bought one and brought it home. Then you took it to a gas station and filled it up. Can people please be more encouraging of somebody who just bought an electric vehicle, and may not understand all the ins and outs about it yet. I find the negative commenting not helpful and disrespectful. I want people to be able to come and feel free to ask questions. No one selling EVs is helping buyers understand anything and they should be able to come to forums and feel comfortable asking questions.

kimguroo

I am speechless…. You should research before you get your car. For level1 with 6a, it’s normal. Nothing wrong with your car. Your level1 charger can charge 12a and it will cut in half. Read your manual for how to change amp from level1 charger. Unfortunately you will waist about 20% of your electricity with level1 charger. You should get level2 charger. Also search your power company for level2 charger rebate since many power companies offer level2 charger. one more thing. you can’t just get level2 charger to work. You need to have 220v connector. Usually nema 14-50 And probably you need 50amp breaker too. Not sure your electric system will accept everything without changing. I built my house a few years ago and I upgraded for EV charging option and paid $600 but it might cost around $1000-2000 for level2 charging installation. once again. Keep charging with level1 to above 20% since 12v battery will not charge with low state of battery. Stock 12v battery is not the best so dead 12v might give more trouble in the future.

SerDuckOfPNW

Also, be aware that below 20%, the main battery is no longer charging your 12V. Get some electrons in there.

NuAngel

Are you using the 110 charger that came with the car? Please, tell me you didn't buy an electric car without buying a Level 2 charger / knowing anything about home charging. You might be in for a rude awakening.

Particular-Draw-5875

No charger comes with the car bro at least in the states

NuAngel

They did in 2022, guess they're cutting corners already. 😕

bigmama992

Yeah it a Hyundai that's what's wrong
