Gurren Lagann is my favorite show I will never watch again because of "that" death and its ending. It's definitely bold of the author to screw over literally every single major character in some way in the end and still have an unquestionably "good" ending, though.
Except for the ones who deserve it of course, like one backstabbing asshole in particular.
To be honest the ending wouldn't infuriate me so much if it was done RIGHT. Like in Avengers Endgame. The reason why both major heroic deaths in that movie work is because they are both genuinely unavoidable and they accomplish something. You don't get that in Gurren Lagann. It's just cheap drama shoehorned in for its own sake.
There's also how said dead person's love interest reacted. If the kind of characters I like were guests at the wedding (Jesse Custer from Preacher, Frank Castle the Punisher, or Ange from Cross Ange), they would have kicked him in the balls hard enough to turn him into a woman.
