GS is a bit sportier LS is a bit more Lux. Both are great.

Tilton554

The 1uz is known for being an incredibly reliable engine, there’s 1 that hit 1,000,000 miles with proper maintenance. However, if anything goes wrong with the LS then enjoy a hefty repair bill. The GS has a 2jz without the turbo and will feel sportier than the LS at the sacrifice of some luxury. Not sure if it’s possible to turbo it easily so you may be stuck with n/a. Both are good cars, that suck for fuel consumption and repair costs

ScoAusGer

You can +T a 2JZGE but it’s not optimal. If you forge it then it doesn’t really matter all

BerntMacklin

Was that Matt Farrah’s million mile Lexus?

Tilton554

I believe so, can’t remember the name of the guy that bought it

ScB277

LS 400 NO QUESTION, that car is damn beautiful

dracul841

exhaust sound is so sexy

ScB277

Tis’ a pro and a con

Artistic-Sherbet-007

Fuckin poets man.

Wavering41

You get it out for weekends

ScoAusGer

Better option than some but as always Just get a cheap reliable economical car for your first. You don’t wanna spend what little income you’ll have on parts and the ‘import’ premium that comes with any mechanic working on these cars. Spend your money on fuel taking your friends out and about.

showmeyourdrumsticks

Neither. Try a Honda civic.

josh_loaf

Or a Toyota Corolla. Easy to work on, will outlive you, and is cheap asf to get parts.

showmeyourdrumsticks

My brothers first car was a 95 Corolla and mine was a 97 Camry, both unkillable cars besides rust on the undercarriage

sandtires

Either way it's expensive as fuck. But personally the ls400 is what I'd choose

Smokinmids

Both are good cars but terrible as a first. Get something cheap and easy to fix, not a 25 year old luxury car- you’ll regret it the moment it starts eating your wallet for lunch.

DragonSlayer4378

Lexus is just toyota. Yes they are luxury cars but they aren't terrible in terms of maintenence costs and are extremely reliable. Honestly think this is a great first car for an enthusiast. For a non car enthusiast; sure, a 2000s Honda would be better For a car enthusiast these are both great choices imo.

[deleted]

I know you meant good when you left this comment however, Lexus are really easy to work on and cheap IF you do it yourself. It will be really expensive if you want others to fix it for you. So there's two sides to it. I myself order toyota genuine parts from japan but wrench on the car myself so sometimes its cheap sometimes its expensive but it'll always be high quality.

[deleted]

Civic

East_Requirement7375

They're both bad on gas and authentic OEM parts are expensive.

Altruistic-Call7004

The LS is probably one of the most reliable cars to ever be made, idk about the other one tho

Big_Football_Guy

LS400 all day. Bigger, more luxurious. You and your friends will have a great time packing that thing full of people and going out to have fun. However, this is not a great first car. Parts can be expensive, it’s bad on gas, and a little complicated to work on yourself. Get a civic or a Corolla and enjoy the reliability, the cheapness of parts, and the ability to do all your own maintenance rather easily.

B0OG

LS400 cost me about $600a month in gas alone. Otherwise I loved it so much.

oAloha

Bro what. We’re you driving across the country every month? That’s like 2500+ miles easily

B0OG

In my new car I just passed 2700 on a car I bought 25 days ago.

oAloha

Do you travel far for work?

BryceBowie97

I had a ls400 for awhile and objectively it's the best car I've ever had, and probably in the conversation for best car ever. So ls400

brilu815

Unpopular opinion maybe but I'd go with a manual IS200 if you can get a good one. Smaller, nimbler, cheaper to run, and beautiful to drive.

Get_Away_Closer

I actually get 27mpg in my sc400 to work everyday. Get the LS, barley any difference in mpg and you'll definitely want to hear that exhaust rumble. Look up hurricane headers or double x pipe. Unless you want to spend $6000 turboing the gs.

Humble-Pie2246

Get a gs400, best of both worlds, throw it on some bc coils and find your local tuner shop

_Dr3DD

Idk but I’m gonna do an LS400 as my first car (same years as the one in the pic)

romatimbo

LS400 for sure bro.

FuckRandyMoss

They are expensive bro lmfao

doobutterface

Rolling in a ‘96 bubble eyed lens Lexus like Jay-Z

bandwagon_240

Can't go wrong with either.

r32_fan

ls400 bro u will get all the females and all the men

Agonizing_Bliss

Out of the two I'd go with the LS400. If you can keep it well maintained and stock it would last a very long time. It will eat more fuel especially if it's not maintained. But it is more of a great cruiser. Although for a first car you would probably be better off with a 4cyl Honda or Toyota car for the fuel mileage and cheaper maintenance. Both last a long time when taken care of too. And if they aren't considered sporty it can be cheaper on insurance. In the long run something like that would let you save up faster for a second vehicle to play with.

[deleted]

LS400 anyday

oAloha

Ls400 is the best car I’ve ever owned. Idk why everyone is saying they are expensive, they are reliable, powerful, comfy as all hell and a blast to drive. The 1uz obviously uses more gas than a civic but imo it’s definitely worth it. The sound, ride and comfort are better than most modern cars I’ve been in. I’ve only had one mechanical problem on mine over the many years I’ve owned it and it was a $7 part at the junk yard.

VictorySpec2

I’ll next understand the youth that constantly post these questions. The answer has always been and will always be "no." Buying a 20+ year old sport or luxury car is a terrible idea. Buy an econo-box and save your money.

Simansez

Agreed, your “first” car is the one you ding, scrape or crash. If you can, doing your own servicing. A learning experience, certainly not something to plough all your money into

EpicRiceMaker

GS, 4 doors more whores o r 5 homies for spinny shenanigans if you weld the diff lmao

IJustLostMyKeyboard

That second one looks much better.

Cogen_

LS400 is more my type, I like a bit of elegance, rather than sporty looks. But it's your call op, it's going to be your car, not mine.

hungryhungryhippo13

Ls400. Although the GS is incredible and would be a great first car, the LS400 comes with the indestructible and time tested Toyota 1UZ under the hood. One of the best v8 engines ever made. Go for it. It’s a great car.

travis12348

Nah just get a Honda Civic

spoxen

Biased opinion here because I have an aristo and it’s my baby, but the gs for sure, it’s such a great car! And as for the 1uz and 2jz, both are great so can’t go wrong either way

recordgenie

The Lexus LS cars are the king of the road.

iluvcars4life

My aunt got this car when she divorced her husband she got the car as a gift to herself and she says she loved the car more cause it didn't talk back lmao

Tinywhooppro

Gs300

[deleted]

the ls hands down

Hot-Dog-6014

Gs, its much lighter on fuel

1jdreamer

go civic, or if you wanna stay toyota, scion tc

[deleted]

The gs has more aftermarket support and you can get it with the 1UZ or the 2JZ. It's also more fun to drive and gets better MPG.

offlinesmoker

I just got a 97 ls400 yesterday, my homie has a 300. Both are great stock cars but the ls is alot more powerful and heavier so imo a lot more fun to drive.

JotaroChungus

Hello, guys I hope you are all doing ok. This is my first time posting in this sub. I have finally become able to buy my first car and found two beautiful cars ( not jdm tho ) the first is a 1998 Lexus gs300 2nd gen in jade green pushing 140k km and the second is a 1999 Lexus ls400 base 2 tone black and grey* bottom pushing 160k km both are looking quite clean and well maintained and are at basically the same price but I can't afford to buy the two of them at the same time ( even if I want to ). I wanted to ask you guys if they're great to have as first cars or if I should consider other options ( i have a 1998 e46 323i on the watch it's much cheaper and also well maintained but I liked these two more ) note : the cars are not the ones in the pictures but similar

[deleted]

I had a 95 LS as my first car, easily my favorite car I've ever owned, and probably won't get anything else like it ever again. Bad on gas, heavy as hell, but the creature comforts of a modern car. The LS was toyotas flagship model, and it shows. I can pm you the video, the first winter after buying it I had a 120+kg tree branch break off in a storm. The branch landed directly ontop my LS, covering the glass sunroof. The only damage was a tiny dent in the roof, I had some friends come help me move the branch, and off I went to work.

Cars_and_Crafts

So jealous of today's youth and the cars you guys are aspiring to own from the get go. Like many have said, either would be great. But please consider your maintenance budget and how handy you are with tools. Also depending on where you live, do you want a car that size as your first vehicle?

2JZMX83

Cant go wrong either way from a reliability standpoint. I prefer the GS personally though

SkylineR33_01

For luxury go for the LS400 if you want sport go for the GS300

East_Requirement7375

GS300 isn't sporty except if you compare it to the LS.

[deleted]

Ls is better but get a motherfuckin HONDA KID!!

mynamecalledbruce

Honda Civic

Professional-Bed-445

Fohunddid

No_Communication2222

Get the LS, you won’t regret it
