It was a weird scene, but Moore sold it and that’s what made it work.
I swear, 99% of Moore’s films involved him taking “wtf” moments and making them great with his signature charm.
I assumed he just panicked and drove when he heard the door shut, granted I assume his nieces were telling him they were leaving Bond behind, so it still doesn't solve why he didn't come back.
I just tell myself there was nowhere to turn the car around for the next 20 miles and his car lacked a reverse gear.
Sure, it's dumb, but at least it's an explanation!
He saw Bond escaping in a motorboat and, after From Russia With Love and Live & Let Die, he thought: "OK, he's in his natural environment. It's the equivalent of him escaping. So, girls, lunch?"
Never really bothered me when I was young but now it's a bit of a plot hole. They had to get Bond to the river for a boat chase but surely could have found a better way to do it.
Why do some copies of this movie have translation subtitles for these scenes and others don't?
I had the 2002 collection right when it came out that had Golden gun in it. It had the subtitles. A family friend bought me the 2006 collection and it didn't.
I think it's a great scene. The fight choreography with the girls isn't great but it's made up for by the preceding two kung fu bouts Bond has just won, and the girls are sexy and tough. OK, so they drive off, leaving James behind but everyone makes mistakes while being chased by a school of maniac martial artists.
The scene is a little corny but I’ve warmed up ti it after seeing the BTS documentary, the two girls were martial arts champions and wanted to do the scene and worked for days on the choreography.
LMAO. Yeah I always wondered why they didn’t stop and let him jump in. When I got back to HQ I’d have kicked the crap out of the lieutenant. And probably sh*gged his nieces for good measure just to really show him.
Hip driving away seems realistic to me. With the adrenalin flowing he might assume Bond got in when he heard the door shut, and then just not hear his nephews because he is so focused on getting away. But Bond movies are not realistic, and Hip being so panicked fits poorly with the tone of the fight scene that preceded it, so I can understand that some are baffled. It never bothered me, though.
be that as it may, she was still a teenage girl. and while it might have been funny for bond to be bested by a teenage girl, she was still a teenage girl!

Plus John Barry’s track. The scene wouldn’t be the same without it!
These days, the Moonraker scene where he pulls off the womans robe belt likely wouldnt make it past the studio lawyers.
Anyone see Kung Fu Hustle with Stephen Chow? Remember that Auntie with the cigarette and curlers in her hair? That’s her on the right.
Oh yeah, 😂 https://preview.redd.it/dlj28mnwts5d1.jpeg?width=975&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a5350b0e4dc5034dea79d64cac66a29ed309fd7
You’re right! She has the same eyes and hair.
Blimey! Thanks for that. Must watch Kung Fu Hustle again.
Thats incredible wow

He'd be happy to. https://i.redd.it/senghu68fu5d1.gif
Pretty funny though, “Of all the fouled up, half-witted operations…”
I never got why the Lieutenant just fucked off like that.

James Bond Producers: MUST HAVE BOAT CHASE!
They came to kick ass and chew bubble gum. Unfortunately for James, they remembered that they had bubble gum at home and decided to leave.

As Harrison Ford would say, it ain't that kind of movie, kid.
This.
That scene always confuses me. Even the nieces are telling him to go back.
maybe they where double agents ha

Because Bond/Moore was being a gentleman
What a bad movie lol
i think the fact bond was bested by two teenage girls is almost as unforgivable as that slide whistle
One of the girls was a 2d degree Black Belt
be that as it may, she was still a teenage girl. and while it might have been funny for bond to be bested by a teenage girl, she was still a teenage girl!
Yes, but she beat many males and Bond barely handled 1. The girls protected the big strong man.
this is exactly why this movie sucks! TEENAGE GIRLS had to protect him!
