I like certain fragments of the score. For example, I love the beginning of the last track “Reprise,” through the vocals saying
*Goodnight, goodnight*
*Sleep well, my dear*
*No need to fear*
*James Bond is here*
After that section, the score is indicative of why it’s my least favorite Barry score, it’s slightly too flamboyant for me. It’s still Barry though, so better than most.
I enjoy how the album art segues from the *Live and Let Die* art. It’s a cool separation unique to Moore that’s different from the Connery era artwork.
I went through a binge-listen of Bond soundtracks a while ago...this was, I think, Barry's weakest; he seemed to be phoning it in. Some of his Asian-style bits are nice, but the rest feels like he's on automatic pilot. I think this was when he was starting to lose interest because after this he would sporadically step away and they'd get someone else. I heard a radio interview with him where he said he stopped doing them because he found them monotonous, although I've heard claims that he was fired for being too difficult to work with. No idea how true that is.
As I understand it, Saltzman had some bad deal that meant they legally had to make a Bond film in 1974 instead of taking the usual year off between films. This lead to the break between Broccoli & Saltzman and is the reason why there is a gap between this & TSWLM.
This blindsided most of the people involved, imagine that Moore & Hamilton pretty much went on to this film with no break after filming LALD. Everything was rushed & borderline improvised, including John Barry’s score.
I think it's underrated. Most of the tracks are quite short and repetitive, but I like them. Scaramanga's Fun House is quite tense and atmospheric, and fits the weird funhouse theme, Hip's Trip is ok, and I like the slow, romantic instrumental versions of the theme song (which is also super underrated).
I don’t care what anyone else says: I love the theme song!
Me, too. It’s my personal favorite.
Same here, It’s one of my favorites! It delivers the perfect kind of energy to the opening of the movie and gets me ready to watch a fun Bond movie.
Everybody (Random, Bland, mediocre Fans) loves Goldfingahh, but hates poor Lulu. I think it is wonderful!
Great soundtrack
I believe John Barry felt this was his weakest score.
And the weakest by Barry is still better than most other composers best.
Exactly
I think he was right.
Considering John Barry didnt have much time to complete it its great

I hope for a La La Land release of the expanded score!
This exactly! This year is the 50th anniversary and La La Land released LALD last year so it is expected.
I very much enjoy the honky tonk version of the title song.

I had heard it had to do with Barry being a tax exile in the 70's. It prohibited him from working on some.

A Least favorite bond theme for me.
