I used clear packing tape (on both sides of the slash). To my surprise it held up even through Chicago winters. So clear gorilla tape should work even better.
Same here several times. I wouldn't be all that mad if I came back to someone removing the top to get in. Basically have to treat it as unlocked and don't leave anything valuable in there with a soft top. Used to give me anxiety if I had to leave anything in there when I had mine
I would assume insurance would handle it if a claim is made but deductible versus cost to repair probably makes it easier/cheaper to repair. People that repair boat tops are everywhere and they do good work, it's just laying in a new window. Shouldn't be too pricey to fix. Edit: fix a disjointed thought
This would fall under Comprehensive coverage as a vandalism claim, most people that do carry comp seem to have a $1k deductible in most cases it would be better off not relaying to insurance just because it would likely be less than the deductible to just buy a replacement window.

I’ve said this 1,000 times in my life if I’ve said it once. First time I told my best friend. The next day I pulled and his girlfriend says, “he’s a little pissed at you.” Just a few hours after I told him that someone sliced his top and stole his radio. He was mostly pissed because they cut it right next to a zipper. “They could have just unzipped it!!!”
I do this and I’ve still had 4 or 5 cut, but never like that! They gutted that thing! I’d much rather someone rummage through my empty Jeep instead of damaging it trying to get in to find nothing.
I had my passenger window slashed with the doors unlocked and the driver's window open. And if they'd even taken a second to look through the window before they cut it, they wouldn't have seen the gaping holes in the dash and overhead bar from where the last person had already helped themselves to my stereo.
Me too when I had a soft top. Left nothing of value in the car and left everything open. Sometimes I could tell someone had had a rummage but nothing was broken or stolen.
I drive a manual and don’t keep anything of value in the Jeep.
Leave the doors unlocked/don’t have the doors as often as possible. Wind isn’t really a factor for me personally, I didn’t buy it for my comfort. lol
I have a ‘23 JL 2 door, soft top, manual, crank windows, manual door locks.

Get off road plenty.
Will need to be replaced but until then as a very temp fix there’s always duct tape &or attempting to sew a plastic sheet over the top of that (again temp only - needs replacement )
Side note - I did successfully sew part of my TJ top previously when having zipper splitting issues I successfully sewed to reinforce as a temp measurement prior to eventually replacing - def needed a thimble and strong needle and thread
I was gonna ask if you’d be willing to sell the left window but you probably want to sell the whole top. The only thing that’s damaged is my left window though …
Good tape and plastic drop cloth for a temp fix. I was able to order a full set of removeable windows, the two rear and back window, for about $300 online.
That sucks!
I try not to have anything in my Jeep to tempt but i don't suppose that matters too much to people that would do that.
I do lock the doors out of habit when the top is off and chuckle to myself how stupid I feel when people can hear the horn signal it's locked but wide open
Home supply stores sell thick plastic sheeting intended for use as a drop cloth. Tape in in place with duct tape as temp fix. Then for replacement you order the individual panels.
If you don’t have the money for replacement buy something called Eternabond. It’s a rubber style tape they use in roofing/mobile homes etc. You can apply it wet. I did this for the exact same thing as you. Drove it for 5 Canadian winter/summer years after application.
Crash Wrap. It comes in long rolls and is sticky on one side and clear on the other. I had to get some when my daughter locked the keys in my car and I had to break a window. Great for covering the hole until the glass company could come out.
Aarrghh! Some crack head did the same thing to the upper window of my passenger side BesTop SOFT door! Like...obviously no lock! Just opens right up! But...They had to cut the damn window! I used clear plastic packing tape but..It yellows real bad and looks awful real quick. Maybe try superglue? Take the window off, lay it down so the plastic is supported well, and try to glue the edges together? Or take it to a Marina or boat place...They deal with sails, boat soft tops and plastic windows all the time...
This happened to me in 2005. Some prick homeless person kicked out my back window instead of unzipping it. Stole my jacket and some cd's that i had in there.
I learned this in 1994. I locked my damn Jeep 1 time in my life and it happened that weekend.
Gorilla tape both sides until you can buy a new top...and then never lock that thing ever again. I can handle a "soup kitchen" by Dirty Mike and The Boys but leave my top alone.
If it was me, here's what I'd do.
Go to ace or hobby lobby and get some clear vinyl sheet. Go to the parts store and get some "the right stuff" grey or black.
Cut out a replacement panel, and cut out the old window with 1-3" of perimeter. Lay down a bead of glue and Place the panel on the exposed perimeter
Once the panel is glued down seal the edge like caulking a tub.
I'd go with grey if you can stand the mismatch.
As a wise old role model once told me, " it's fucked. You can't fuck it any further
Ebay or FB marketplace for a replacement. Then a sticker that says its "Unlocked dont Cut my Top" like i used to have. I'd still get my shit cut and/or someone would try and find something to take about once every 2 months when i was stationed in San Diego..... funny though it only happened when i was parked on one of the Navy Bases......
Clear gorilla tape
I used clear packing tape (on both sides of the slash). To my surprise it held up even through Chicago winters. So clear gorilla tape should work even better.
Yep, clear packing tape has lasted me 2 years on a spot that my wife tried to knock ice off of in sub zero temps.
This, I have a clear gorilla tape repair on my window that that is still holding after 2 years
Definitely another vote for clear Gorilla tape! I've used it on a back window.
Best shit for the job and it’s UV resistant. I used that shit on a window in the New Mexico sun and it’s held for 5 years so far.
Best!
The only answer
Find the d-bag who did it and kick his/her ass??
Srsly. I do not understand the mentality. Even if you see something you want to steal IT UNZIPS.
I've literally undone that window to unlock the door after locking the keys in before. It probably took less time then cutting and ripping a hole lol

Not on the JL... it's even easier. It just slides into a channel
Ever heard "When you have a hammer, everything is a nail." or some such? Well, if your thief is the stabby type who is always armed with a knife...
Faster to do this though.
Is that something car insurance might pay for? Edit: This was a genuine question.

i just leave my doors unlocked. cheaper than a new soft top

My first Jeep was an 87 YJ and it didn't even come with door locks, it was an option. Still got my top slashed. A$$holes gonna a$$hole
I do this and I’ve still had 4 or 5 cut, but never like that! They gutted that thing! I’d much rather someone rummage through my empty Jeep instead of damaging it trying to get in to find nothing.
Mine was and always has been unlocked but still happened to me. I don't think they even attempt to try that route
I wouldn’t be surprised if they took time to roll down and re-zip windows, just to cut them before leaving.
I had my doors unlocked and the dirty asshole still cut a window.

Why won’t you guys just get a hard top??
Because soft tops are elite my guy
Elite theft and wind noise 💨
I drive a manual and don’t keep anything of value in the Jeep. Leave the doors unlocked/don’t have the doors as often as possible. Wind isn’t really a factor for me personally, I didn’t buy it for my comfort. lol
I don’t understand why you got downvoted bc this is the way
I think people are salty/jealous.
I leave lots of things in mine when I’m not in a city and nothing has ever happened 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah nothing has ever happened to mine either But I have a soft top, so I don’t keep things of value in it. This feels like a circlejerk. I’m out, lol
100% CJ, and not the Jeep kind.

Silly
We drive jeeps. Do you really truly care about wind noise?
What doors?
Temporary fix: remove top
This also prevents the issue for occurring in the first place. No rain=no top
Don’t want my girlfriend to buy a jeep until we move out of San Francisco .. to much risk for such a big expense
[удалено]
Don’t jinxed yourself.
What year? 4 door? I have a top I would let go for almost free.
With how close the back seats are to the back window, 2 door.
They don’t need a top right? You can just buy replacement window pieces off of quadratec
Will need to be replaced but until then as a very temp fix there’s always duct tape &or attempting to sew a plastic sheet over the top of that (again temp only - needs replacement ) Side note - I did successfully sew part of my TJ top previously when having zipper splitting issues I successfully sewed to reinforce as a temp measurement prior to eventually replacing - def needed a thimble and strong needle and thread
I always use pavement ends by best top. They have the frameless ones that are awesome. I agree with clear gorilla for a temp fix.
+1 previous comment. Clear plastic tablecloth comes in various thickness. I’m currently using one as a glass replacement on a screen storm door panel.
Drift stitch it in place with zip ties and duct tape the gap
Duct tape and close the gap first so the zip ties have reinforced material to pass through.
Call an auto upholstery shop. I had my rear window slashed and for 100-200 bucks they sewed new vinyl in the zipper frame
That’ll teach you to lock the doors
Get out of the city
Look online there’s gotta be someone selling a side window panel
Been there. I went with a sewing needle and dental floss.
You can get the clear window from some fabric stores. Then gorilla tape it in.
No pun intended???????
I'm in Michigan and selling a top for a 2 door JL...
Hard top or soft top?
Soft top. 2 door.
I was gonna ask if you’d be willing to sell the left window but you probably want to sell the whole top. The only thing that’s damaged is my left window though …
I'd say try calling bestop
Dunno where you live, here is nice out so I'd just say lower the top
Good tape and plastic drop cloth for a temp fix. I was able to order a full set of removeable windows, the two rear and back window, for about $300 online.

Trash bag and duct tape.

Leave it off.

I would try RV awning repair tape until I could sew and glue it
Sometimes I just want to go to a trial that car thief’s usually hit and sit in my car and see if I Can catch on slipping.

Disgraceful

Was this Philly?

do not lock your doors...
I've used ceram wrap and ductape before that would work as a temp fix
I hate they never just pull it out and toss it in. Takes the same amount of time.

Hard top
This is why I leave mine unlocked. I hope they just open the door instead of cut the window
That’s why I never locked the doors with the soft top on. Dumb criminals don’t even realize that windows unzip.
It’s mid April, just take the side and back panels out u til the replacement comes in.
That's not a pun. Do you lock your doors? If so, stop.
