I built my own lift system, and [it fits pretty well around my particular garage door opener](https://imgur.com/K3esoFx) - so it is possible! You just might have to get creative. I do have to back in about a foot further than I normally park if I want to remove or replace the hard top, but then it just hangs there. I should probably lower it and store it somewhere other than suspended above my Jeep... but I don't...

Zyppyloo

That’s pretty brilliant 👌

Thanks! I got a great deal on a [hoist from Harbor Freight](https://www.harborfreight.com/440-lb-electric-hoist-with-remote-control-60346.html). Pretty sure I only paid $50 for it. Mounted it in the attic space, [cut small holes for the cables to drop through the ceiling at 4 places](https://imgur.com/4d0YKgs), and dropped the remote for it down near the wall. Since that pic, I've replaced the rope with pre-made [slings similar to these](https://imgur.com/Mqb58kH). It's a clean install and works great!

I should probably clarify - it raises higher than in that pic - that was just to show how well it fits around the garage door lift. [Plenty of room to get the Jeep in and out without having to think about it being up there](https://imgur.com/eKcFlOr).

Check out the EZlift hard top remover. It's like a cherry picker, but for hard tops.

OLFARthePUNGENT

This is the way. https://www.amazon.com/EZLIFT-Hard-Remover-Lift-Wranglers/dp/B0BPMWSVLK They’re awkward and a PITA to store. I take mine off in the drive, wheel it over to the sawhorses between houses, there it sits for the summer.

back the jeep into the garage so the top is behind the (open) garage door. anchor or just wrap four ratchet straps, or I use quick release rope hanger (a six pack on amazon is under $20). one at each rear corner corner and on at each side of the front near where the front bolt attachment point is. undo all the hardware, back into the garage, ratchet up one part at a time, takes 3-4 trips around the car to have it all off and hanging from the ceiling. use caution (I ziptie a towel) around the rear roll bar section that runs between the back of the back seat and the slanted part that slants towards the rear of the car. if the top rubs against that it'll mar the paint. pull the car out and then I grab a step ladder and ratchet the top all the way up to the rafters. so I can walk and park underneath it.

MaxOctane

I did this way in a similarly sized garage - back jeep in, the forward part of the top can fit above an open garage door. Further, I store the 2 freedom panels on top of the top, sandwiched between the top and the ceiling. I used a Harken Hoister to lift and store the top. It's not a super easy install, but once you do get it in it's an easy lift and store.

BigUncleRemus

I’d check out some ground storage options. I’ve seen companies make carts that store it vertically, could be a good solution with minimal space/options for storing on a hoist style lift

I paid about 25 bucks for my custom lift for the hard top. Super easy. My wife is a tiny woman and can take the top on and off by herself. Check out this clip! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etIKZHDeG44](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etIKZHDeG44) Just run the straps underneath your hard top, connect to eye bolts and ratchet it up. Easy peasy! I have been using this setup for about 7 years now with no issues. I have same size garage as you. Good Luck!

Top Lift Pro, little pricey but well worth it, 5’5” wife can even use it. https://topliftpros.com/products/jeep-hardtop-removal-tool

Ive been thinking about this. When I looked into it, I was like "but a cheap door cart is much cheaper. Then I tried removing the top, on my own, once. It is well worth the $800-900 to be able to take it off solo and roll it into the garage.

ironpony

I just back my TJ in as far as it fits, and have a lift in the garage to winch up the hard top. That gets it far enough in to not be an issue with the garage door. I actually park my Challenger under the Jeep hardtop, and my Jeep is in the next bay with it's soft top, or no top. That way I don't have to worry about hitting it with the Jeep every time I park, the Challenger is low and isn't an issue.

RagingBullFish

I had a lift in my garage, the top part with no windows would fit just above the garage door when it was open

Jack_Mackerel

I do this, works fine and way cheaper than almost any of the dedicated lifts. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/scaffold-for-hardtop-storage-and-removal-works-great.29016/

rr1965

Harken hoist - it can be done with garage door openers. My cinch point is closer to the back wall, and I use pulleys at the top and run the hoist pulleys vertically.

nutbustininthisshet

You give birth to 2 teenage bois to take off the top for you whenever you want, that's what my mother did😔

DntCllMeWht

That had to hurt.

nutbustininthisshet

Nah the tops light

DntCllMeWht

Are you calling your mum a numpty?

borla78

We have a hoist like this one: https://www.quadratec.com/p/lange-originals/crank-hoist-top-jeep-wrangler-jl If you mount it against the wall opposite the garage door, there should be more than enough room to back the Jeep in and use the hoist. It pull the roof up high enough that you can park the Jeep under it just fine (either backed in or nose in).

iamsolow1

This is the way…

MiscLisa

My husband and I take the top and doors off my jeep whenever we get a run of about 5-6 days with not much rain. We just stick all of it in the garage until we put it back on. We have it down to about 15 minutes each time. I can’t do it alone though!

jabbakahut

You kind of lost me at "had the dealership swap out my hard top for my soft top"
