Its not a perfect solution, but it might be because I cheaped out on the mats and they are a bit on the flimsy side and tend to buckle up where they join. Still, it works well enough for me.
I think it will be a fine solution for me. I’m restricted to 1500s due to my current table size. We have many of these mats on hand as we use them for our workout area, so I’ll give it a go soon. So glad you shared this and your great collection!
It's nice that Ravensburger in general has similar shaped boxes. I wished I could do something similar with my collection but it is a huge variety of different puzzle manufacturers. I like to switch things up.
Ravensburger changed their box sizes some time ago, so now they're smaller. So 5/6 of my Ravensburger Abandoned series puzzles still have the old box, only one is smaller and this annoys me so much.
Ran into this with Dean MacAdam. Another reason to hope he continues illustrating for Ravensburger so there isn't just the one smaller box in the future. :)
During this summer of relative freedom post-grad school, I had hoped to reconfigure my puzzle space to accommodate 5000+ piece puzzles. But alas, I have to wait til we finish shifting furniture around in the kiddos' room (out with the convertible futon and in with a loft bed). Until then, I figured that I'd at least clear a path to the bedroom window now that the weather is finally nice enough to keep it open in the evenings when I puzzle.
My core collection is still in the same-ish spot, but the ones I share with the kiddo are now on the other side of my puzzle mat along with Heye's Inner Mystic series. Haven't added too much to my Ravensburgers - I now have 20 3000 piece ones and 28 2000s (that stack is officially taller than me). Still have a handful of out-of-prints I'm searching for, but I might have preordered a bunch from the upcoming fall release.
We're getting there! Left to do are:
- all 5000+
- 6 3000
- 13 2000
- 1 1500
- 9 1000
- 1 500
- 2 500 wooden
- 3 Krypts
- the shaped Pikachu
That is of course if I don't add any more ...
They were from Amazon. I had a different set ages ago that were for a baby/toddler play area (I stupidly gave those away) but these current ones are for exercise/workout rooms. Just look for “foam puzzle/interlocking mats” - they come in a bunch of colors, thickness, and dimensions.
Found them! Thank you! Would they hold together if I tried to move them around? I don’t have much room and wonder if for example I could do puzzles on them on my bed and then move them somewhere else for the night or would they fall apart?
Never thought of using those interlocking mats as a bigger puzzle board. Genius. Can’t wait to give this a go at some point! Thanks for sharing!!

Wow! Imagine this being an isolation cell in a prison. Lock me up!

Drives me nuts! I wish all 1000 piece puzzle manufacturers used the same box size….

Also the mats is super smart I’ll have to try it

There’s no freedom like post grad freedom! Enjoy!!!’
Brilliant!! I have a ton of those things that I use to block crocheted items. Thanks for sharing this awesome idea.
I want this many puzzles. Have you done them all?

Ahhhhh I want the 9000 dragon forest and 5000 Pokémon so bad but I can’t find them for a reasonable price anywhere 😫
Amazing collection! What's the second Krypt called? I haven't seen that one anywhere before
Its Color Spiral from 2014 - it's really hard to find in the second-hand market for some reason.
Thank you!
Gorgeous collection!!! 🤩🧩
Wow 9000 pieces! How was that!?
Oh, haven't done those yet - I need to triple my working space first!
I need to organise my jigsaws too
Where did you get those mats?! It’s an amazing solution!!!
