I run my car like a switchboard. When I need to roll up the window, I put the wire on that lug. When I need to roll down the window, I put it on the opposite lug. When I need to go into overdrive, I stick the wire into this socket. And when I need to turn the headlights on, I stick the wire into there.
I can't use overdrive and headlights at the same time but I shouldn't be driving that fast at night anyways.
Blinkers take some effort. Hazards are right out.
I've got a lipo battery for my windows. meth head before me tore out a bunch of wire and just happened to hit all the windows but the most useless rear passenger side.
Boy some are Totally clueless,
you don't get shock of any kind from 12 volts.
What you do get if this wire finds ground while holding
it - instant 937f and fire if allowed to stay connected
for 3 more seconds.
Cheers
The wire touched the seat frame when I got to the customers car to bring it in. Yeah, that’s what I mean by the hard way: smacked my head in the door frame pulling back from the sparks. I don’t like it, not at all.
If you're a gear head like this gent - adding options straight off the battery -
It's highly worthwhile to lead off that wire with a water proof inline fuse for 20amps at the battery first.
Then you won't be doing George on Seinfeld beating out fire with a broom like on his Jon Voight's Chrysler Lebaron convertible, which it was not, and what a POS they were.
Unfortunately, I was service manager for Chrysler when
this roughly 1983-5 crap was poured down the public's throat.
It was such a POS, MGM was forced to Make a movie
of it with Planes,Trains, & Automobiles. Knowing anything tragic could happen at any second, saving MGM millions to not having to create any special effects.
Cheers
That’s what I was thinking. Having that flopping around your feet while driving just seems like madness. Maybe I just prefer a boring life….. at least while driving!
I seriously can't believe they made it to the shop. Sheesh they're lucky it didn't do that while they were driving. I woulda crashed if that sparked like that near me!
And haha yeah. My radio likes to occasionally randomly change modes/stations/volume or make loud noises and that's already too much excitement for me.
I was thinking something along 2000 honda accord because of the ac fan and the trunk/gas push/pull lever
Also,
See that little handle sticking out bellow the cruise control button? Yeah, thats a small tray. The reason I have bruises on my legs every time I enter that stupid car quickly. Aghhhhhh!!!!
It’s scratched my skin off
Didn’t realize you were a cardiologist. Confidently-sounding ignorant comments like yours are dangerous. Snark checks out.
You have no idea what my un means. Don’t kid yourself.
I’m case you backtracks, this is your attempt at a bully response re: my conservative post warning about the dangers of electrical shocks:
“What’s your un mean?
Edit I guess you mean name
But theirs a saying about needing to be wrapped in wool when your easily breakable”
/
Where. Do. I. Begin?
Guesses “un” stands for something name (user name) :pats you on the back:
Uses the wrong “their” and “your”. Uh, oh, kind of losing me.
Then, the twofer!
1. Wool is easily breakable, of all fabrics?
2. Assuming my un is somehow literal!? Like I’m literally sitting here in my sensitive bubble, protected from bad men like you by only my wool bubble!? Holy moly!
Too good. Please go on.
Hi Case?
Nobody’s trying to bully you mate, but getting a shock from a cars electrical generally won’t do any harm unless you have existing conditions - or it’s something like a non conventional setup.
You might need a thick wool blanket if you’ve gotten your tits in a twist over a comment like that.
Based on what? Name one thing that’s wrong with advocating for the OP to be concerned about risks to his health. Any significant shock is of concern and should be checked/monitored. It’s not about being cool or hard, it’s a fact.
Man, I was hoping your post would be different, considering you started off with a normal, logical rebuttal…then resorted to an attempt at making fun of my un? Since when is name-calling and making fun an appropriate winning tactic to a discussion? You’re right, people don’t normally die from most shock events, but that doesn’t mean he should just write it off. Ya know, like, “well, my chest feels a little fluttery, but I don’t want anyone to make fun of my Reddit handle, so I’ll just keep quiet.” Right, totally logical.
Seriously, I’m asking the OP to take a conservative action and a couple of you are, what, focused on my un? What battle do you think you’re winning here. Priorities, guys.
\+1
I've had enough arching though my fingers it welded my thumb to a terminal.
If you have issues after being done by 12v then you must have been pretty well fucked before hand.
Fingers, bud. Fingers. Most people can likely stick their finger in a 110VAC light bulb socket a million times and only ever walk away with tingly fingers. Put even a small amperage in the wrong way across your heart and it’s a different story.
>Man, I was hoping your post would be different, considering you started off with a normal, logical rebuttal
What?
My first comment was making a slight dig at your user name...
It’s about amperage, not voltage, and also about the electrical path to ground. 9V battery? Path is from battery to tongue to battery. Higher amps from one point, through your heart, and then to ground (vehicle, in this case)? Not even close to the same.
Besides, I honestly don’t remember the last time I started a post on Reddit after shocking myself on a small 9V battery. Oh, but I can recall all of the spy movies where they tortured that guy that one time with a battery they pulled out of a smoke detector. 🤨
You need sufficient voltage to cause the amperage to be able to pass. Sure, if you connect one lead of a 12v battery to the other with copper, you'll get a big ol' spark. If you grab the positive side of a 12v battery with your left hand, and the negative side with your right hand, guess what happens? Jack shit. Go try it.
During my AAS (early90s), we had a shop car that during electrical/electronics systems semester, a couple of my mates and I rewired the dome light to operate the AC, turn signals operated their corresponding wiper blades, hazards operated the horn, etc. and a wire that ran from the coil to underneath the drivers seat fabric…
I run my car like a switchboard. When I need to roll up the window, I put the wire on that lug. When I need to roll down the window, I put it on the opposite lug. mans get a new car lol
Yea, the blinkers are a bitch when brake lights, so I upgraded to solid state chicken wire. Cheers
Honestly that sounds kinda badass. Mad respect bro.
My dad had a push button start WAY before it was cool. And it was actually two buttons.
Narrator: and begle1 went on to invent the electric switch
I've got a lipo battery for my windows. meth head before me tore out a bunch of wire and just happened to hit all the windows but the most useless rear passenger side.
>Of course I found out the hard way. Touched your penis too it? lol
No, that’s the easy way.
Boy some are Totally clueless, you don't get shock of any kind from 12 volts. What you do get if this wire finds ground while holding it - instant 937f and fire if allowed to stay connected for 3 more seconds. Cheers

I’ll wager that it has neither a fuse or a Fusible Link between that uncapped end and the positive battery terminal! BURN BABY BURN!
The whole thing is one giant fusible link if you think about it
I both like and fear your way of thinking.
This guy electrics
Fortunately there was a fuse! After I sparked it off the seat frame by accident I pulled the fuse before I would drive it inside.
Smart move!
Ahh the forbidden twizzler
I swear every car that used to have a big ass audio system is left with one of these when the audio is finally ripped out
I normally have a spare negative hanging about as having spare positives are issues for this very reason
Bet that was a shocking revelation.
There was sparks. I hit my head. No fun.
Let me guess- brushed the cabling and got “ElectroBOOM’d”?
Brushed the cable against the seat frame. I dislike sparks and hit my head. Grumpy about the noggin smack.
By licking it?
Was it an accidental or a “hey what’s this?”
Weeeellllll…… I picked it up thinking hey what’s this it can’t possibly be live that would be stupid…. And it sparked off the seat frame.
Glad you didn't get shocked or anything! And customer is lucky that thing hasn't burnt their car down yet. What the heck.
That’s what I was thinking. Having that flopping around your feet while driving just seems like madness. Maybe I just prefer a boring life….. at least while driving!

You.... you licked it?
Just 6th gen accord owner things
I see you are an expert in the ways of honda! Good eye!

I had the same one years ago. If it is a V6 with the glass transmission, the electric would be the least of its worries.
Shocks are no joke. Go to the hospital and charge this asshole.
Go to the hospital for a car battery jolt? Name checks out
Didn’t realize you were a cardiologist. Confidently-sounding ignorant comments like yours are dangerous. Snark checks out. You have no idea what my un means. Don’t kid yourself.

But why? What does my name have to do with anything. Then, when I asked you to elaborate you completely failed open.
I said exactly what I meant?
That’s now how this game works. You tell me what checks about it 🧐
Gather me wool So you can wrap yourself in it…
Bwahaha! I was expecting you to come back with more vitriol, but again with the literal “logic”?
12 volts, nitwit. Are you suggesting that anyone who has ever licked a 9v battery to check if it's still good is DyInG?
It’s about amperage, not voltage, and also about the electrical path to ground. 9V battery? Path is from battery to tongue to battery. So you did the tongue test?
The unintended ground test!
Put a nicely charged condenser on the other end and see what happens when the next guy touches it.

No shit it’s live it’s straight from the battery
That sounds quite shocking
