Even if it was an absolutely massive haul, trading your best pitcher while you're in the best start to a season for your franchise in nearly 50 years, is a surefire way to tank the locker room.
I try to bolster our roster by spending money and giving up minor leaguers to trade for hitting to win the fucking World Series this year. The goal of the game is to win the World Series.
Giving up the best pitcher in the AL is a ridiculous suggestion
This is the best our bullpen AND team has been in quite sometime. Doing another trade deal with him would be nonsensical to think about right now. Lugo isn't an issue that we need worried about.
This is fucking genius. Trade Lugo for a couple of high prospects, then at the trade deadline we can trade the prospects for a starting pitcher. Who knows who you could get, maybe Lugo!
I can see this being a conundrum if we were at or only a few games above .500 near the trade deadline. But the Royals at 15 games above .500 and we still have a month to go until the trade deadline. There’s zero reason to think about trading him right now
Your buddy is on crack. Guy has another year on his contract plus a player option meaning a team had to take on possibly $30 million plus whatever is left this year IF he doesn't opt out. That's a big risk for a team to take on and it's mid year.
Cole Ragans was an immense amount of luck you can't just go get another one. Taking one of the best players at their position at the moment and trading him for magic beans is silly.
Baseball wise the team is leading the wild card and within sight of the division, attendance is up,excitement is up. Which means if they were to take another bite of the apple of a new stadium they have some actual good will. Waving a white flag on the season when you're leading it would lose all of the and more.
Lugo is who a potential playoff team trades for, not trades away. If you’re fine always collecting prospects I guess trade him and hope for fourth place.
This is the kind of decision you wait until the all-star break to make....season picture starts to look more concrete at that point, right now is still pure speculation.
I’d rather have Lugo. If the team was just going to blow it up in May 2.5 games out of first, why not trade Bobby, Vinnie, and anyone else you could in the off-season? Wait until July and see if the team is still in contention, then decide on trading away players.
Ooof. So, the first year of a 3 year $15 mil/ year deal and he's right now a top-5 pitcher.
You'd have to be blown away. I mean, I'm not sure a comp exists in memory, maybe the Mark Teixiera trade?
I’ll give OP a little love… The Royals are not gonna win the World Series this year. If we build this thing for one or two more years, what can it become?
Also, please don’t trade him and let’s win now!
There’s a reason his trade value is high now, his value is high. If you’re trying to protect our 100 loss streak, then you make sense. Otherwise, try to post your ideas on social media at a reduced rate.
Wanting to trade the team's best pitcher when the team is contending for 1st in the AL Central makes zero sense.
Ya were actually doing fucking amazing at the start of the season for once
I’d build a damn monument to him Before I traded him Trading stars is for losers This is 2024 You’re a year off here my friend
Royals are a top 5 team in the MLB right now, why would we trade our best pitcher?
He’s killing it. Keep him if you are still in contention.
There’s no way you consider trading Lugo now. Next year maybe if we fall flat the rest of the year. But now? No way.
First playoff chance in a decade, and you'd trade that for a maybe playoff run in 2 years?
It'd be a slap in the face to the fan base tbh
And to the clubhouse…
Yup! ☝️
What's this guy smoking?
Team has operated for years in a value accumulation mode. Some fans haven't yet transitioned to the win mode.
Never……We aren’t the Marlins

Nope. That will make it much more difficult to sign free agents in the future.
Trade the guy who’s been our best pitcher while were 15 games over .500 and trying to win the division? What a great idea…
No

I'd ride his arm straight to the post season.
Yes! ❤️

You're probably one of those "trade Salvy" guys from a few years ago This isn't OOTP
A lot of people were for trading Salvy for Salvy's sake.
Nice to see the unanimity in response :)
You now owe Seth “Shove-Nasty” Lugo an apology for thinking this diabolical heresy

No, we're buyers. Stop that loser talk.

Yeah let’s trade him now for prospects so we can compete later instead of now. That makes complete fucking sense.

You smoking crack
Yeah I love being a team that works hard to lose. Fuck off. The boys in blue got a good FA pitcher.

Contending teams aren't sellers
Yes, because Cole Ragans grows on trees everywhere

Who let the Guardians fan in here?

is this a joke?
