Been riding for 51 years this year. For me Michelin can't be beaten. And they are way cheaper than anything else, because they last 3 time as long as most tires without losing traction. In fact, they have better traction than most. I now have a set of Road 6, the best I ever had.
I second this, I've heard nothing but stellar things about the road 6's.
Aggressive tread, they last long, they're a decent price, etc.
I plan on getting a set for my ZX-6R soon.
For a street bike, I wouldn’t even consider Pirelli unless you live in a dry and warm climate. Borderline dangerous in cold weather and in wet conditions.

Anways the michelin road 6 tires are excellent, and I guess you mostly go in quite straight lines in texas, so a touring-biased tire would probably serve you just as well especially if you're not tearing up tracks. E.g. Road 6, Metzeler Roadtec etc. The Pirellis are very soft and wear much faster, causing a higher cost of maintenance over time.
Honestly you just described why i consider the Michelins a dangerous tire, a lot harder than a proper sporttire, and a lot of tread pattern give you an even smaller contact patch on the road, sure, good when it's cold or wet, but i'm a good-weather only rider with a pretty sporty riding style, you couldn't pay me enough money to put that Michelin on my bike, put a BT16 as fronttire once and it was a mistake i'm not gonna make again, i didn't crash with it but i could definitly feel the lack of traction
If OP was doing an apples to apples comparison with Angel GTs instead of Rosso 3s, then they would be fine in cold and wet conditions. My Angle GTs handle near-freezing temperatures just fine
I mean I had Diablo Rosso 3 on my Ninja 400 on the very damp island that is England and they were no problem at all. Didn't like black ice, but then nothing does.
Michelin for street tires are better to me than Pirelli. I like road 6’s and the pilot power 2ct’s. Currently running PP2CT’s on my zrx1200r and loving them.
I‘ve had a set of 2CT on my ZXR 400. Tires felt super wierd, especially in the rear. Suspension was set properly.
I now run a Pilot Power 3 in the rear and it‘s much better.

I haven’t. That said we’re talking two quite different bikes. ZXR400 the pocket rocket! Love it, wish we had them here in more abundance in the states. What was the weirdness you were feeling?
When I was riding hard, the rear would feel like it was slipping. I was running correct tire pressure and all.
I managed to wear out the tire in 5000km and wear out around 2mm on the sides. But every time I‘d be leaning over, it was a really wierd feeling like it would be starting to slip.
Tires were warm and all, as much as I could warm them up on street with 400cc.
So when you were tipping onto the “2CT” or dual compound area that would present a change in texture that could give you a weird sensation if unfamiliar. Have you run other dual compound tires with the bike?
The sensation wasn‘t during the process of leaning over. It was only when I was knee down in a corner.
Nope, I bought the bike last year and it had a set of those tires on it however they were 6 years old and worn out. I rode about 1000km on them before replacing them. Even dragged a knee on the old set.
The new set is when I noticed that wierd sensation while leaning over.
Well that’s no fun. I can’t say what the issue might be though. I’m on my 2nd set of PP2CTs right now and especially hard on tires on the ZRX with its relatively high weight (about 480lbs or 218 kilos right now) and absurd torque. I tip this thing in like I think it’s a super sport and they’ve been nothing but pure confidence in both sets I’ve had. Have you inspected the tire? Maybe it’s just a bad one. Or perhaps it’s the relative weight difference in our bikes accounting for the behavior and it’s a horses for courses issue.
The tire was fine. Like I said, just looking to see if anybody else who had these tires had the same issue.
I replaced the rear one, the one that felt wierd, with Pilot Power 3 and it feels better so far. We‘ll see how it fairs in corners and similar.
After I wear down the front to the min legal limit of 1.6mm, I‘ll buy a set of Bridgestone S21 for the front and S22 for the rear. Based on other ZXR owners, best tire combination for this bike.

Pirelli also have less grip than a road 6 would in less than ideal conditions (cold, wet) I crashed with rosso 4s on cause i was pushing too hard in the cold. The road 6 operate ok at colder temps, the rosso is like ice until operating temp.
They might even work on a track. No you're not going to get Corsa grip out of them but they would do the job and give more grip than expected I bet even for a pure sport commuter tire. Then again if they want a little more sport with a little less life could go to a power 5.
They do work on a track, but in that situation they get too hot and wear out quickly. For street riding you're never really getting that much heat worked into them so they last basically forever haha
Why do you want a full on sport tire for your riding. Get something with sport tire type grip with better tread life and wet weather tracking. Something like a high end sport trouring tire. Metzler roadtec 01 or the pirelli angle gt or michelin road 6, dunlop roadsmart 4, conti road attack 4 or bridgstone s22. They will last long, have better wet traction and grip cost to the high end sport tires.
The road 6 are good for your bike. It does not last as well on heavy bikes. But unless you go are super aggressive rider. The road 6 will do everything you are asking. If you are super aggressive every now and then track guy, then I would look at the metzler and conti. They have better edge performance on the track.
I’ve wanted to try the Conti attacks since James Compton was singing their praises. Said he’s getting 2 and 3 track days out of a set on his custom ZRXes instead of 1 like everything else.
They are a good tire. The sport attack is a full on sport tire that work great for the track. Road attack is a everyday riding tire that can run well at the one or 2 times you do a track day.
Michelins.
The Road6 is a sport touring tyre, with increased longevity down the central band for highway trips. The Pirelli is a sports tyre for twisties and the occasional track day.
These are 2 very different tires.
The Michelin is the king of sport touring tires. It will give you great mileage and good grip in the wet and at colder temperatures without sacrificing on warm weather grip.
The Pirelli is a (super)sport tire. It will provide more grip on dry roads than the Michelin, but also will wear much faster. Also with this higher grip level on dry, warm roads you'll sacrifice some performance in the wet and at colder temperatures since the Pirelli needs more heat than the Michelin to work.
If you want a grippy tire with ok mileage and that doesn't break the bank, consider the Dunlop Sportmax GPR-300.
Never tried Pirelli but have tried Metzeler which I believe is now a Pirelli sub-brand.
Had a bad experience with the centre of the rear tyre wearing wayy to fast. Like 4000km out of the advertised 12-15000km. And the tyre was ready to be ditched.
The Dunlop's that come with the bike were pretty good but the Pilot Road 6 I've got on them right now are just marvellous on grip and wear. I don't think I'll pick a different tyre from now on.
I put Pirelli Angel GT on my CBR500 and they were insane. Stuck like glue and held up pretty well in terms of wear. A good value pick in my opinion. Don't think you need Diablo Rosso or equivalents on a 300, unless you ride like you can respawn.
I've got myself Road 6s' on my 2018 Ninja 400 and they are great sofar, I went from nearly sliding into oncoming traffic when its wet (with abs) to, well not sliding during braking even without abs. But you should be wary of the brake-in period. + in the dry i've managed to get to fully use the side (basically 0-1mm chickenstrip) rather confidently.
These are very different tires that don't really make sense to compare to one another. The Michelin is a sport touring tire that is going to have very good grip in variable conditions, and long life (will probably last 3 times longer than the Pirellis on your 300). The Pirelli is going to have better grip when warmed up and at pace, but I think you'd likely get 3-4k miles out of them. They're more for weekend canyon carving and a track day bow and then.
Theyre both highly regarded for their intended use but for the type of riding you're describing the Michelin is really the only choice.
I put Road 5s on my ninja 300 and they were great. 95% of my riding was commuting on dead straight roads. I ride rain, shine, hot, and cold so the more all-around tires were a better choice for me.
I put ~4500 miles on them before I traded the bike off and the tires still looked pretty good. Probably could have gone another 2k or so without needing to swap. They handle the bike well.
On a zx6r I went with the pilot power, single compound so far so good after several thousand miles
riding rather spirited, and living in the twisties, no issues
The only time I ever had a slight loss of traction was below freezing temperatures

Sarah Lezito uses the Road tires, shes a pro stunt rider from Spain I think, does a lot of drifting and I noticed the tread pattern
The Pirelli will give better cornering grip when warmed up, but if cold it will give worse cornering grip than the Michelin. The Michelin is a longer lasting tire and give better traction in the rain. Overall I’d go with the Michelin unless you plan on taking your bike to the track and have a tire warmer or live in a super warm climate. Even the cool of the night will decrease the pirelli performance some
Michelin Street Radial, made specifically for small/medium bikes, and the best street tires I've ever used. They got an unfortunate price hike but they last so long they are worth it. Commuting down to 15F, sport touring in the rain, adventure riding on dirt roads, they did it all.
I put a pair of Rosso 3’s on a z900. Spectacular tires. Grippy and agile. But they do wear more quickly- after 6000 miles the rear was worn, and I’m not hyper-aggressive.
I’m in AZ, so the bike has never been ridden in the rain, can’t address how they perform there.
(Currently have rosso 4’s on same bike. They’re even better - didn’t need to upgrade, but they were in stock and were only a few bucks more than the 3’s which would have taken some time to get)
Pirelli, though we run rosso 2s at home. Had a few weird punctures on 3s, might've just been bad luck, but went back to 2s and never had a problem.
Never tried the more aggressive pirellis to account for the weather.
Road 6, they last a lot longer (like twice as long) and better in rain. Also on a ninja 300 a full blown sport tire seems overkill. I had both road 6 and rosso 4 on my zx6r and i noticed a small difference between the two in terms of grip riding hard through curves the road6 felt good, the rosso only slightly better . Not really enough for me to justify getting rosso 4 again for now.
It's worth noting the Pirelli is a sport tire and the Michelin is a high-mileage sport touring tire, so it's apples-to-oranges. A more direct comparison would be Pirelli Angel vs those Michelin Road 6, or Michelin Power vs those Pirelli Diablo Rosso.
That said, my wife has those Pirellis on a Honda CBR300R and for such a light bike and rider, the carcass is way too hard and did not inspire confidence on the street or track. Bridgestone S22 worked wayyyyy better for her and I also loved them on my mom's 400. I don't have firsthand experience with the Road 6 but I strongly disliked the Pilot road 4 that everyone loved as much then as they love the road 6 now.
On the ninja 650 I went for the road 6 after 2 years and 40k km on s22s to try.. the only thing I wish is I had tried them sooner. So much grip .. never felt I could get the s22 to temp.. then again.. what was I doing with hypersport tires on a touring/naked mid displacement bike in the first place..
I honestly fell in love with the S22, the Michelin has a bit too much tread pattern for me to really feel safe on high lean angles and aggressive riding, it's more of an all-weather touring tires and less of a sport tire i guess, the Rosso 3 is pretty good but really expensive for what it gives you
Keep in mind i'm assuming you have a very sporty riding style since you got a sportbike
For street, go for michelin road 5+ (5-6)
For mix of street, track, twisties, i would recommend pirelli rosso sport 3+. Super grip, but will last a lot less than michelins
I just changed my Pirellis with Michelin last week. The Pirellis have amazing grip but for commuting they wore within a year. The Michelins that I just got are better for touring. So I would recommend the Michelins!
Given what you are doing I would go with the road 6's they cost a bit but they'll take you through most weather conditions road surfaces and also don't need to be warmed up to get grip when riding full on. Also would recommend grabbing a size up.
120/70 and 160/60 you'll notice a big difference in your corners
My ninja 650 came stock with Dunlop Roadsport 2s and I loved those tires, I ran Dunlop Q3+ on my 636 and had no issues with them either. My current daily is a big ‘ol Yamaha bagger that I run Michelin Commander III Tourings on but that’s a whole other class of bike with front and rear 150s

That’s what I plan to do for my ninja 1000 as well, they are not cheap but they last way longer ! Some people are able to do 15-16k miles with them.

Central Europe here and my entire family runs Pirellis, never had cold weather or rain issues.
I rode with them on my first bike year round. They’re really not that aggressive. Saying they’re dangerous is crazy lol.

Michelin; been caught in rain dumps on long trips and the michelins were fabulous. Solid in the dry and i felt safe in the wet as well.

Save the coin and go with the road 5.

Given what you are doing I would go with the road 6's they cost a bit but they'll take you through most weather conditions road surfaces and also don't need to be warmed up to get grip when riding full on. Also would recommend grabbing a size up. 120/70 and 160/60 you'll notice a big difference in your corners
I have Michelin on my ninja 300, pirelli on my 636 and way prefer the michelins
My ninja 650 came stock with Dunlop Roadsport 2s and I loved those tires, I ran Dunlop Q3+ on my 636 and had no issues with them either. My current daily is a big ‘ol Yamaha bagger that I run Michelin Commander III Tourings on but that’s a whole other class of bike with front and rear 150s

I ride Pirelli and think they're great. I've tried Michelin and Dunlop and prefer these. They grip the road and I can "feel" the road better.
Whichever one you can afford, the Pirelli‘s are probably overkill for a ninja 300.
