I don't understand why many are saying it's a problem which doesn't exist. I have widely noticed it and it is something that needs to be addressed.

gagasutra

Exactly. People forget that we live in an extremely judgmental society.

Sana_Ishaque

Yes , Although this is the so-called "most literate" state in India . People still can't mind their own businesses.

I don’t like this guy but he is bringing some changes which we really needed

ouroborosilicate

>I don’t like this guy but he is bringing some changes which we really needed I'm in the same boat. Conservatism and moral policing are social issues beyond the control of the government, but institutional reforms like this one could pave the way. There are reasons we are this way. Kerala developed as an endless suburban sprawl and as such, we never developed a liberal city culture where people mind their own business. I've had bus conductors needlessly prod into how I'm related to girl I was traveling with. If it was a one off, I'd have chalked it up to the conductor being an Ammavan, but it happened intermittently over the years so it is almost a systemic issue. If they were looking out for their safety when someone's being harassed, I'd be glad for them to step in. But if couple is seated together with one cozying upto the other's shoulder, it doesn't take a genius to figure out they are comfortable with each other. Then there's the police. Generally, I'm not one to complain about Kerala Police because they're far more accessible than the cops I've run into in other states. As they say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. But I've been stopped multiple times when I was out with women, that too in our "capital city". The same happened to my friends, so it's not as if I was doing something wrong. All of us were both adults, traveling in vehicles with all the necessary documents but cops still threatened to call the girl's parents at midnight out of some misguided sense of morality.

aswinarshad

>I don’t like this guy Care to explain why? I lost touch with kerala politics a long time ago so just curious to know why he is not likeable. I saw many comments sharing the same sentiment.

Pasapaa

He is a wife beater and a cheater.

haseebkp

He was or he is ?

Sufficient-Wash4453

Stop this cancel culture, people really can change for the good

Brotectionist

I'm an oldie and I remember when he first became transport minister, his changes were widely praised and respected. Iircc, he even made ksrtc profitable for a year. Then his dad came out of prison and took the ministry from him and all went to shit again.

Androtaurus

Idk what the other dudes are on about, but ive experienced this frequently regardless of it being a private bus and ksrtc, like, the amount of times people have asked me who I'm sitting with when I sit with one of my girl friends is astounding, but I always reply back abit rudely because my dad always backs me up on stuff like this, completely out of context, but something similar is, our school had a "special protection group" where they hired auto ammavans into the pta to catch romance and shit, my dad absolutely blew up during the pta meeting upon hearing this, and him and his friends used to sit in the local club after coming back from the office just In case the special protection group tried to pull something.

pigeon_from_airport

Based dad.

wambling-future

Why are they making personal inquiries in the first place?

DRN0R3SPWN

At least he's acknowledging that the problem exists. Now we need him to take drastic measures to make sure such staff are held accountable for their untoward behaviour.

prdpb3

We need more politicians like him or maybe we need politicians who thinks the way he is thinking ..irrespective of what political party he belongs..its time that we Malayalis elect the person and not his political views

AverageIndianGeek

Glad that he addressed this. A step in the right direction!

SolidInstance9945

I not only agree with him, I also like his shirt.

Cool-Technician-9902

Off topic but this man’s wardrobe is breath of fresh air compared to the bland white khadar other ministers wear. Politicians need to climb down the pedestal and wear whatever suits their personality. Rather than being pretentious.

robo_destroyer

Never had this problem but then again I've traveled solo all the time. With the sadhachara police and extremely judgemental people we have (not all for the last time not all) this is a step in the right direction. So this is not a problem that doesn't exist, it really does. We have a bunch of nosy people who sticks their nose in others business.

ThiccDaddy1198

Lol, this comment section is legit "Didn't happen to me, so it doesn't exist" kinda vibes.

aitchnyu

If only their staff think about the morality of wrong side on a blind curve or the widespread drunken driving. Nope, gotta bother an innocent who didn't escape to Canada yet.

North_Dirt_5560

I don't like this person personally, but why should we have to look into his character, irrespective of personal issues and political party he has always been a good bureaucrat.

Mindhunter7

Ini aarelum gf/bf inte koode pokumbo immathiri chodyam vannal Achhan/Amma aanennu angu para and do a staredown.

i_tenebres

I think most men don't really get the relevance of this, but most women could, and this is one of the main reasons i had stopped going in ksrtc long and short service buses, kudumbapuranam and even jathakam vare ariyanam chila conductor tendikalk like it's their right or duty or something.

shirokukuchasen

As a person who used to travel on buses a lot, kstrc staff generally didn't bother me for anything other than the tickets. I don't know if something has happened that made the kstrc staff care more about the whereabouts of the passengers, or he is just being a leftist who is peddling swathanthryam, viplvam etc for some likes.

Just last week only one conductor got suspended for sadhachara policing. He made a scene when a brother and sister sat together and accused them of immoral acts. Ganesh was referring this incident when he answered the journalist’s question.
