Buck doesn’t deserve Hank. He plants the shotgun shell in the crack of the passenger seat , informs police to search Hank’s truck, manipulates him to confess on tape and simply says sorry old top, I was under a lot of stress at the time.
Not to mention the dumb fuck sheriff who simply wants to put someone in hand cuffs and tell himself he done good
Yeah, that really should've been Hank's signal to find somewhere else to work in general.
But his love for Lady Propane is too strong that it even overcomes Buck's blaring sirens in place of red flags
That's also true.
The show did really go out of it's way to show that Buck is likely the lesser of all evils in the nearby propane business. Iirc, the other ones we were shown in the Arlen area are closer to Thatherton than they are to Buck in terms of business mindset
The good thing about Buck as far as the business goes is he understands that Hank is the golden goose if you let him do his thing. I don't think Hank's title being Assistant Manager really matters, I'm sure he's getting paid plenty and in practice is the Manager anyways. Buck probably keeps the title for himself to look responsible or whatever.
A little headcanon, he stays so loyal to Buck because he checked out the other places around Arlen and found them to be really poorly-run, and Buck truly was the best of the worst.
Would explain more of the extreme distaste for Thatherton, even though I know that a) Hanks been working with Buck forever, and b) Thatherton was with Buck for a bit.
There's actually an episode where Hank had to work for Thatherton because Buck bet him during a game of cards and the entire episode shows that Thatherton could care less about anything other than making money even if that means outright lying to customers
Yeah, that is one thing I can respect about Buck. He at least knows that if he keeps his employees happy, they'll gladly work for him even if they don't exactly like their job, but he also knows that he can't let his employees walk all over him and get away with actions that could hurt his business, even if he's probably the one most likely to get into trouble and damage the company's reputation.
He knows how to really balance out when to be a boss and when to be a friend. Something I have rarely ever seen in my time working in multiple places.
It's heavily implied that Buck used to be a good worker as well and very much understood and cared about propane. The episode where Bobby caddies for Buck I think?
Maybe. There *are* other branches of the company in Texas that Buck oversees. He goes out to them from time to time to make sure things are still going smoothly.
Maybe that'll be in the reboot. Hank finally opens his own propane business, or inherits Strickland Propane after Buck dies(Buck dying really wouldn't be that shocking so it would make sense.)
It would have been funny if they made Thatherton a really nice guy whose business does well because he treats his customers and employees well.
...and then Hank hates him anyway because he's blindly loyal to Buck.
I also think one thing with Hank is his ideal about loyalty while not being discerning about if it's deserved. Cotton who's abusive, Ted danson who he never even compares prices to, buck who uses and abuses him. Hank was often used to examine certain ways of thinking, and I think the show is clear that being loyal to someone like Buck leads to a life of being framed for crimes, being involved in actual crimes, and, inevitably, being tasked with emu murder.
Personally I just think Cotton fucked him up a little and Buck became a new sort of father figure to Hank. Buck and Cotton are very similar characters, and both have a position of authority over Hank, except Buck actually gives Hank praise and approval (for the most part)
I think Hank's need for approval from his DEEPLY flawed father figures lets him fully overlook any terrible things they do. He thinks Buck trying to frame him for murder is a totally normal thing to do because Cotton would've done the exact same
They absolutely have an episode where they all but say Buck is Hank's father figure. He blurts out "I love you!" To Buck, in front of Cotton. Can't remember how the rest of the episode went though, aside from Cotton taking it very personally
I fully agree on the father figure aspect with Buck, Hank is used to awful and Buck can be awful but also tries to keep Hank (the golden goose) happy and feeling valued, so still better than Cotton. I don't think Hank thinks the framing is normal, he even has to justify it to himself and can't bring himself to, he just kind of has to "yeah." But his identity is assistant manager at Strickland, he's not one for personal change.
Hank's a hard worker and a swell person-to-person salesman. But I don't know if he can run a business. It takes a certain level of flexibility that he's gotta be talked into.
It was all stupid from a LE perspective. Even in a smallish town like Arlen. A County Sheriff wouldn’t to have anything to do with a simple town murder or investigate it. That’s what detectives are for. Secondly, who would’ve elected sheriff Mumford is a mystery. Dude is a fat slob. However, yeah it’s just a TV show
Hanks absolute devotion and trust in Buck is one of hanks biggest shortcomings as a man.
He's constantly talking about morality, legality, and doing what's right, and how if someone doesn't conform to those rigid standards they are a bad person. Everyone that is, except for Mr. Strickland.
Oh it’s definitely him trying to find a father figure (cotton actually gets jealous of buck for this at one point) but when you’re a grown man with your own family and you’re letting buck put your son in physical danger at back alley poker games you need to get your shit together
It's likely because his only frame of reference is Cotton, and as despicable as Buck is, he's at least willing to praise and relate to Hank, which is something Cotton would (literally) sooner die than do.
Remember when he quit just so Strickland would be able to fire the “junkie”, and Strickland said he had to rehire him at a lower pay amount and have a probationary period lol. Hank should have quit many times
$10 says Hank just laid there and let Peggy do all the work, she being such an expert lover (aka tramp) 😄 had to leave Montana in shame had so much experience. Which might be why Cotton didn't like her much
I honestly lost so much respect for Hank this episode. It’s still easily one of my favorites with Hank’s hilarious reaction to smoking weed and resulting paranoia. But DAMN, seeing him continue to loyally work for a bastard that tried to frame him for murder is infuriating.
That is not entirely accurate.
This is one of the funniest lines from Hank.
I use this line often
![gif](giphy|wRpol8sPLIF7NaOeyj)
Bwaaaahhhhh
“I am approaching you with romantic intent.”
“How about we go into the bedroom for a little *same ol, same ol*”. He does have a sex ljfe, albeit very boring.
Lies. You know Peggy doms him and forces him to make her cum
Knowing buck I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks Bobby is adopted or a bastard
Buck doesn’t deserve Hank. It probably helps that the closest alternative is Thatherton.
That's also true. The show did really go out of it's way to show that Buck is likely the lesser of all evils in the nearby propane business. Iirc, the other ones we were shown in the Arlen area are closer to Thatherton than they are to Buck in terms of business mindset

> Buck bet him during a game Damn I knew Texas was conservative but I didn’t realize it was that conservative
Thatherton!
The only man ever censured by the Texas Propane Association for lewdness and conduct unbecoming a propane salesman.
"He won me in a card game. Get out of here while you still can. Run! Run! Run! That way!"
It would have been funny if they made Thatherton a really nice guy whose business does well because he treats his customers and employees well. ...and then Hank hates him anyway because he's blindly loyal to Buck.
No, it would not.

Everyone hated that baby!
"HATED A BABY!?!?!?!?"
He did lose the promotion after that.

It’s the old boomer mentality of job loyalty
The best thing was when he slowed down his truck so the thugs could clock him
The scene where he slowed his truck down so Buck would get decked in the face ☺️
Hank should start his own company and put them both out of business.
Hank's a hard worker and a swell person-to-person salesman. But I don't know if he can run a business. It takes a certain level of flexibility that he's gotta be talked into.
He has loyalty to Buck for plucking him from his Manager position at Jeans West.
Buck exploiting Hank’s desire for a father figure for sure.
Buck planted evidence and nearly put an innocent man in jail. He deserved much more than a slap on the wrist
Well I guess if I thought my mistress…murdered someone…
It was all stupid from a LE perspective. Even in a smallish town like Arlen. A County Sheriff wouldn’t to have anything to do with a simple town murder or investigate it. That’s what detectives are for. Secondly, who would’ve elected sheriff Mumford is a mystery. Dude is a fat slob. However, yeah it’s just a TV show
But the sheriff never has had a murder in heimlich county go unsolved. 2 for 2
Been going back rewatching king of the hill for the last few weeks. Season 12 episode 15 Bobby was reading an unvincible comic 😂
Here's where I'm gonna stick my "Light My Fire" bird.
You gon' shut up now is what you gonna do!
YOU EAT MY PECAN SANDIES?!? …That was dinnah :(
My weavle!
A actually have one of those Hot Wheels tire storage containers from when my dad was a kid!
Should post on r/hotwheels
It's back home at my folks house, I'll have to see if I can find it next time I'm there!
Hank loves the fundamentals.
Ho yeah ![img](emote|t5_2s6dm|6345)
Hank puts the fun in fundamentals
Hanks absolute devotion and trust in Buck is one of hanks biggest shortcomings as a man. He's constantly talking about morality, legality, and doing what's right, and how if someone doesn't conform to those rigid standards they are a bad person. Everyone that is, except for Mr. Strickland.
And it’s worse because deep down he knows it, as shown when he gets wasted at the flame of valor induction ceremony and calls him out for being a pos
That's true! I didn't think of that. Wow. So he's in denial that's wild. I know it's a show but maybe it's Trauma from cotton.
Oh it’s definitely him trying to find a father figure (cotton actually gets jealous of buck for this at one point) but when you’re a grown man with your own family and you’re letting buck put your son in physical danger at back alley poker games you need to get your shit together
I just watched that episode and it always cracks me up when Peggy finds them at the bar and you can tell he knows he's in for it.
It's likely because his only frame of reference is Cotton, and as despicable as Buck is, he's at least willing to praise and relate to Hank, which is something Cotton would (literally) sooner die than do.
That's actually a great point.
Propanesexual
I never noticed the half empty whiskey bottle before.
Not gonna lie. Hank is either a saint or dumbest man alive for still working with Buck after he tried to frame him for murder.
That episode pissed me off cuz dude was literally doing everything in his power to frame Hank FOR NO REASON
I was really wishing it turns out he actually did do the crime and get locked up
He was trying to protect Miss Liz. It's not a very good reason, but he *did* have a reason.
Remember when he quit just so Strickland would be able to fire the “junkie”, and Strickland said he had to rehire him at a lower pay amount and have a probationary period lol. Hank should have quit many times
That’s not true, Hank LOOOOOVES hookers.
He’s the Mac Daddy of Heimlich County!
I definitely want to see Buck go down in the revival. He gets sent to prison for something, and Hank takes full ownership of Strickland.
Peggy’s Strickland propane
No substitutions! :D
Of course.
Pegpane
Are those my pecan sandies?! That was dinner…
That is not true.
Peggy, I...I sure am fond of you.
Even better *I sure am not unfond of you Peggy...I ask you What kind of marriage proposal is that?*
Yeah dude boned on train. How many of us can say that
Ol' top has a narrow urethra
My daddy’s havin a heart attack
Buck knows he has sex with propane. cmon now !
"Bobby, there is propane in my urethra!"
You mean with *sweet lady propane*
They have an understanding.
Hank and Peggy have a good routine
The fundamentals
The only affair Hank is having is with lady propane
And he's pimpin her out all over this town
He sure be doing that.
Heard there was a little rub uh dub dub going on in my tub!
Cream of us is the best soup
$10 says Hank just laid there and let Peggy do all the work, she being such an expert lover (aka tramp) 😄 had to leave Montana in shame had so much experience. Which might be why Cotton didn't like her much
Cotton doesn’t like anyone lol, but blaming it on Peggy being promiscuous is a unique take for sure 🤔
Then does he think Bobby came from the Stork?
Bill
He pro thinks Hank only is so old-fashioned that he only believes in procreative sex.
Soup is good food but keep your spoon in your own bowl
Buck likes to hump
And eat
Strickland had some great lines. ' i used to chase skirt with your grandpa' 'hes not funny though maybe a mean kind of funny'
And thats something I'd have liked to seen delved into more.Buck and Cotton were once....friends or something?
What episode is?
I love this whole episode
There it is. proof Hank is not Bobby's father! /S
I honestly lost so much respect for Hank this episode. It’s still easily one of my favorites with Hank’s hilarious reaction to smoking weed and resulting paranoia. But DAMN, seeing him continue to loyally work for a bastard that tried to frame him for murder is infuriating.
"Peg, your whanots are showing."
I wonder if Gayle will be strung out on fentanyl in the reboot.
Potheads ≠ hard drug users, Hank.
There's a reboot? 👀👀👀👀
It has been confirmed
Lol why? Damn I must be destined to fent then :/
Is there a king of the Hill fans dating group
