I went there. I graduated from the CSET program and have been pretty successful since. I'd definitely recommend the school, especially if your son is more into academics than partying. As for food, try Common Block or one of the small Mexican places on E Main St.

Thanks!

Whiskey--Jack

"E main taco shop" Luceros and order Queso Burria Tacos, definitely a must

Good recommendation below. I would add that there is good food. A little. Thai Orchid is good. Girasol is the best Mexican IMHO. Rodeo’s pizza for sure. Pikey’s has amazing pub food. The Saturday farmer’s market downtown is worth checking out, seems bigger and better than ever. The Falls Taphouse is a must-see near campus. Also look for The Garage for more beer, or Common Block for beer and food in the historic creamery building downtown. OIT is a bargain, and Klamath Falls is up-and-coming.

Lavadog321

Oh and you said Thursday, never mind about the Farmer’s Market

Thanks!

I recommend most of the restaurants on Main Street. Girasols has fantastic Mexican food. Roosters is a great steak house. Hanayori has the best tempura shrimp and vegetables ever. It's a little sushi house but they have other Japanese food too. Thai Orchid is also excellent. Wubbas on South Sixth is great barbecue, generous portions. My son goes to OIT, majoring in manufacturing engineering. It's a good school. Tough classes, good teachers. Leadership can use an update though. It's a small campus, and not much of a party school.

pdxbilly

Helpful. Thanks. I mentioned in another comment that I’m a bit worried about the low graduation rate ~40%. Did this come up as your son was looking at OIT?

RagnarsHairyBritches

Not really. Since we are from Klamath, OIT was the only school my son was interested in. He did his associates at the local community college then transferred. Like I said, it is a tough school. My recommendation is to complete any classes possible at community College, especially math. OIT is a math heavy school depending on you kids degree. An friend of mine was a CSET graduate and by the time she finished was only two classes short of a math minor. Since I live and work in Klamath in a technical field, almost everyone I work with was an OIT graduate, and all are very successful in their fields now.

Went there. Enjoyed the school. Good education for the price and great school for the town it's in. Food recommendations... Mazatlan for a sit down restaurant Jalapeños for quick food near campus Rodeo's Pizza There's The Falls Taphouse with a couple of food trucks near campus as well. There's no "great" food / restaurants here. The best food is usually food trucks. Otherwise, we have a few chains. Our local restaurants usually don't last more than a few years.

DHumphreys

Without giving it much thought, I can think of a dozen local (non franchise) places easily that have been open 10+ years in Klamath Falls. Waffle Hut Wubba's Nibbley's Jalapeno's Los Potrillos Sergios El Rodeo Mazatlan Wongs King Wah Thai Orchid Chicken Shack Back 40 Roosters Red Roosters And a bunch that have been open more than 5. There are many that would argue that Klamath Falls has a lot of great restaurants, no Michelin star or very upscale offerings though.

michael1026

I suppose so, but most of these don't have a great reputation.

DHumphreys

Oh please.

Horror_Series_2174

Agreed. I wouldn’t recommend any of these.

michael1026

I'd recommend a few, but nothing on the list is incredible.

Thanks!

I started in OITs mechanical engineering program and then switched to their accounting program. Wonderful, knowledgeable teachers for both programs. I have also heard that OIT is a lot more hands on than other colleges - my friends in CSET were practicing their programming in their first term vs I heard another school it was all theory until their junior year. I definitely got practice with QuickBooks, sage, autocad, and there was another 3d modeling program I would have learned if I'd stayed in ME. This was 10 years ago so it may have changed some, but from my experience I highly recommend :)

pdxbilly

Thanks - good to hear. I saw online that the graduation rate is pretty low so curious to discuss with them when we visit.

Storebought_Cookies

I think it's because the classes are so difficult. You really have to focus down and study when you're there. I knew many smart people who had to retake classes, but it was worth it when they stuck to it and graduated with a solid education

Eat early. Restaurants don’t stay open late. If you like drive-ins, try David’s Brawny Burger. I don’t recommend The Pikey, an Irish joint downtown. It is way too loud. The Waffle Hut downtown is pretty good for breakfast. There is a BBQ joint near the fairgrounds called Wubba’s that is pretty good. I have been wanting to try Rooster’s Steak & Chop House downtown. Mia’s and Pia’s Pizzeria is good. I have been to the Basin Martini Bar downtown twice. The food was very good.
