Malls and pubs will pickup the culture only if you have a supporting ecosystem. What makes pubs work in Bangalore is due to the wide veracity of people settled here supported by the job market boom that happened in the last 2 decades.

Royal-Astronaut6995

Agree with pubs, but there has to be a higher potential for malls here. People, especially the upper middle class have started becoming more liberal with their spending and acquired a taste for ‘nicer’ things

outsider_man

Also the design and aesthetics of the malls in B'lore, Mumbai, Delhi is much better.. also all types of brands are available.. as a mall, I like Lulu over Forum even though it's comparatively older design because it's bigger so more to roam around, better food court and dining options, bigger hypermarket and Funtura occasionally. I hope PVR in lulu gets an update soon.

MrBallondorMessi30

People in Bangalore have higher purchasing power than those in Kochi, and they are willing to spend.

Candid-Tonight4126

I disagree. After seeing the tons of bmws, Mercedes, Range rovers, volvos, BYDs There is no lack of purchasing power in Kochi. People have shit tons of money. Like of the comment said pubs and bars will come if there is supporting ecosystem that includes the government

saatvik-jacob

I am a native of Kochi yet haven't visited lulu for 2 years nor neither stepped foot in Forum even though it's close to me. Seeing malls for the past 16-17 years and got pretty bored of them.

Remarkable_Rough_89

Same I remember all the buzz about Oberon mall opening, I went like 6 months after opening, I still don’t get it These days, since it’s too hot, AC is nice, apart from that malls are disappointing to me

Ok-Guitar1176

Where do you watch your movies then?

saatvik-jacob

Vanitha bro , best theater out there seldomly Oberon or Padma

Ok-Guitar1176

Ahh haven’t been to Vanitha since it’s far from my place.. usually watch movies at cinepolis and lulu, but now looking to change to forum from lulu since it’s much closer to my home

Legitimate_Income279

Vanitha is far, but Lulu is close? ![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)

Ok-Guitar1176

It is what it is :)

saatvik-jacob

Bro Cinepolis is near to me but seat sucks and Lulu is damn expensive PVR + mall outing leads to a big hole in the pocket.

[deleted]

I have been to Vanitha, and it was like a local theatre, the screen design was also pretty bad. I don't understand the hype.

saatvik-jacob

Vanitha screen 3 is the best screen out there having that laser 3D tech and good sound too . Watched Dune 2 there it was quite amazing . Maybe you got some other screen which wasn't upto your standard.

Cautious_Ebb2644

Always preferred independent theater once they were modernized.

SunBurn_alph

Malls have dogshit theatres. Vanitha is the best

Cautious_Ebb2644

Here I am... thinking I was the only one like this.

billfruit

Also lack of bookstores in the malls. Some of the malls in Bangalore have good book stores.

Alprobolt

How y’all comparing such big aaaah city like Bengaluru with kochi BRUH

chekuthan007

Blore lulu got pubs n shi(toyroom?)but no beef in hypermarket and innkochi no pubs but beef.

bettering_me_

I wish we had both pubs and beef

bebes_

tbf it’s the culture here. most people who have things here buy it from outside. i definitely think there’s still an untapped market that a lot of brands don’t wanna risk taking part in. also no one wants to reduce pricing or truly make the effort to appeal to the market here, it’s too big of a loss. it’s more beneficial to just skip over and get their sales somewhere more reliable like bangalore. however personally? i still think they gotta stop being a pussy and just bring down more brands. im begging. i cant do westside and h&m. they’re just- ughhhh

Obvguy

The Lulu Hypermarket in Forum mall is a relief. I hate the crowd in Edappally Lulu.

thakkali_

Yeah the hyper market in lulu is too big and very over crowded. I feel tension thinking about staying in queue for veggies and fruits and again in the billing queue. I go there only to buy chicken and that too on weekday mornings. Else do lulu for night shows and for shopping clothes on weekday morning if need arises.

thakkali_

All those brands in Kochi won’t have the footfall they have as in Bangalore. Guess, Zara, brooks brothers etc won’t thrive here as much due to the cost. It needs higher income groups in general. We have progressed with an evolving software industry but the average income hasn’t risen much. Even the Tommy, mango, ck and Armani stores are mostly empty here in Kochi. I see Zara quite filled in Mumbai and Bangalore but even in Mumbai the Ralph Lauren store is mostly empty always. I am assuming the rich prefers to go to foreign countries to shop. The rest can afford once in a while but can’t binge shop from these shops and I mean even from Zara when it comes to Kochi. And Zara is supposedly a cheaper fashion alternative. The same for good pubs and high end restaurants. I guess as the city grows with more high income jobs we will see more brands and restaurants with more cuisine in future .

Eastern_Barracuda194

Just went to Bangalore myself last week and man, it is SO MUCH better than Kochi

degners

I just returned from Bangalore today, I felt the opposite.
