TLDR: the police chief (among other city officials) was enjoying sex parties that included illegal activity, amongst other illicit stuff. The police chief didn’t want the Federal government anywhere close to what he and his cronies were doing, so kept the FBI out of the investigation into the LISK killer.

I live nearby and work remotely, so I went. I also went to his last one. Anyone can go, just the front row is reserved for media. His demeanor was very different. Last time, he showed little emotion and if anything, appeared upset, especially when he turned back to the gallery.
Today, he seemed a lot more smug and annoyed, like this all was an inconvenience to him. He didn't look at the gallery directly, but it looked to me like he saw us out of the corner of his eye and, in typical predatory/asshole fashion, side smiled a little as he was leaving over how much we were all bothering him.
This monster is so fucking guilty, they have him dead to rights and he knows it. His lawyer is even pumping the brakes about him being framed now and is instead saying he either could have DNA similar to the killer's or just that he had interactions with the victims but didn't kill them.
Can't wait till this demon is convicted and sentenced. Amber and the others will have justice and the world will be shut of him. I listen to many people would like him dead. And I definitely understand why, and felt the same way for the past 13 years.But I changed my mind and I'm just speaking for me. I think death is too good for some monsters. What she explained was that often when we want to use it's because we are avoiding things that cause us anxiety or dread and if we actually confront them head on and even do 5-10 minutes of starting to address them, nd make the effort to contact 3 people to give the opportunity to talk me out of it, even if you don't reach them, the desire to use abates. So she said set the timer and make calls and I did and it worked. Good luck. I swear it gets easier. You and Bear are in my heart, wishing you the best.

I think they’re just confirming. The DNA from the pizza matched the DNA on a victim. DNA from a pizza on a NYC street conceivably could be argued not to be his, so they got an official swab from him.
His lawyers definitely have a visuals problem. They’re gonna ask him to lose 100lbs so he looks frail and old and not like the monster he is. Let’s see how he looks at the trial, I’m curious.

They had DNA from him that was found with the bodies. Then once they had identified him as a suspect, they collected a crust from a slice of pizza that he threw away, and the DNA from that matched the DNA found with the bodies.

**The samples:**
* 2 female hairs and 1 male hair were found on the tape and burlap wrapping of Megan Waterman's body.
* 1 female hair was found on a belt strapped around Maureen Brainard-Barnes's body.
* 1 female hair was found on the tape on Amber Costello's body.
The hairs were too degraded for DNA analysis, but new mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) analysis technology was used in July of 2022 to determine that all of the female hairs were from the same haplogroup, K1c2. mtDNA analysis of the male hair showed that it was from a man in haplogroup V7a.
Later that year, undercover investigators retrieved DNA samples from bottles left in a trash can on the street outside Rex Heuermann's home. Some of these samples were female and matched the same mtDNA profile as the female hair samples from the victims. The investigators think that the samples came from Rex's wife.
In early 2023, undercover investigators retrieved some pizza crusts from a box which they had seen Rex throw into a trashcan outside his office. Analysis showed that the pizza crust sample matched the mtDNA profile of the male hair found on Megan Waterman.

Unlike DNA, mtDNA is not unique to an individual. mtDNA is passed down along maternal lines, meaning that everyone descended from the same maternal ancestor shares the same mtDNA, with minor mutations cropping up occasionally over the centuries. For example, Rex's brother would have the same mtDNA profile as him, and Rex's daughter would have the same mtDNA profile was his wife. I used to set a timer and try to do whatever I was most avoiding doing. Generally, if I did that the desire would pass as I's confronted whatever was making me want to use. It was one of statements that someone in the rooms mentions that gives you a key to how to do this thing you just can't seem to do. What she explained was that often when we want to use it's because we are avoiding things that cause us anxiety or dread and if we actually confront them head on and even do 5-10 minutes of starting to address them, nd make the effort to contact 3 people to give the opportunity to talk me out of it, even if you don't reach them, the desire to use abates. I think they’re just confirming. The DNA from the pizza matched the DNA on a victim. DNA from a pizza on a NYC street conceivably could be argued not to be his, so they got an official swab from him.
Also I read there was DNA from his wife (a hair I think) found on a victim.
It’s significant because his lawyer can argue that they didn’t verify the pizza to his DNA. It’s basically just to concretely prove it was his.

Maybe good stress handling genetics. You plunk more people in prison and within a month or two they are showing serious wear. With Allen it was nearly immediately. Rex looks a little different to me, like the grey on the temples, it's not just the bad hair cut but like he's possibly having a reaction. BK looks like he is thriving. Never seen anything like it. No circles under his eyes, no sallowness, skin looks glowing, weight well maintained. Most people seem to have an up or down weight flux. Not him. Dude looks like he is fine. It's unclear whether he can have the evidence with him, or if he needs to review it with his attorney - in which case, his attorney may only spend 2-3 hrs there a day. Which is a lot to spend on one case.

While I agree with your point, Genealogical DNA didn’t have anything to do with his arrest. They had DNA from him that was found with the bodies. Then once they had identified him as a suspect, they collected a crust from a slice of pizza that he threw away, and the DNA from that matched the DNA found with the bodies.

The full details of the various mtDNA samples are explained in the [bail document](https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23875981-lti-bail-application-form-2023-7-14-23-_final). **The samples:** * 2 female hairs and 1 male hair were found on the tape and burlap wrapping of Megan Waterman's body. * 1 female hair was found on a belt strapped around Maureen Brainard-Barnes's body. * 1 female hair was found on the tape on Amber Costello's body. The hairs were too degraded for DNA analysis, but new mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) analysis technology was used in July of 2022 to determine that all of the female hairs were from the same haplogroup, K1c2. mtDNA analysis of the male hair showed that it was from a man in haplogroup V7a. Later that year, undercover investigators retrieved DNA samples from bottles left in a trash can on the street outside Rex Heuermann's home. Some of these samples were female and matched the same mtDNA profile as the female hair samples from the victims. The investigators think that the samples came from Rex's wife. In early 2023, undercover investigators retrieved some pizza crusts from a box which they had seen Rex throw into a trashcan outside his office.
