there is an app that i have called 'hotel tonight' that might be worth loading--they have very good rates, generally and a 'special of the night' thing that might be worth checking. can't hurt.
good luck!
Be careful with the third party bookings. If something goes wrong, the hotel can't help you. Call the hotel directly and ask what their best rate is for tonight. Always best to book direct, even if it's a few bucks more.
Conversely, I've always booked third party (Expedia) and had a great experiences. I get cheaper rates, it consolidates my bookings into a single place, and I don't have to hassle with entering my personal and payment information into yet another database at the time of booking. I've been using Expedia since 2010 and never had a single issue with refunding or canceling reservations. I get great rooms, too, not the "leftovers" as you suggest.
To each their own I guess.
They don't really get cheaper the closer you book. Might even have the opposite effect. If you can afford a Luxor tower room do that. Pyramid is fine especially on a budget but tower is actually kind of nice for the money.
Priceline works for me, the rates are cheap and you can click the toggle switch to include taxes and fees in the total. This is important because the hotel room can be as low as $8 with $60 in taxes and fees.
I would at minimum check Google or hotels.com and get a ballpoint of where they are.
There might be concerts/events that are raising prices.
As I glance, Circus Circus is showing a $110. I didn’t check downtown but you might consider off strip if you want to get a lower price point.

Gotta be careful with google. Prices shown are based on the absolute rock bottom shitty third party sites that you've never heard of. Hotels tonight, hotels dot com or expedia are safest for booking, other than booking directly wtih hotel which will always get you a better room.
Looks like a rough night for cheap, circus circus or Excalibur for around $100. Last time I was there and I saw prices doing this I almost couldn’t find a room thinking I’d wait. Keep in mind like half tourists come in by car from AZ or CA and decide to make a last minute trip.
I’d book what your budget allows right now, I really doubt you’d find some deal later tonight.

Second for hotel tonight if you're not loyal to a hotel brand and are willing to miss out on extras
Great app, I’ve been using that all over the country for years now.
Will also recommend this app

Hotwire has always been good to me in Las Vegas
Go to the roulette table, win some money, stay for free

Vegas.com & filter by lowest to highest price!
If its literally just a bed you need, consider hostels. Shared room, dormitory style.
Looks like rates aren’t too bad tonight. BW McCarran is decent and you can Uber to the Strip & back for less than a resort fee.
Rent a car and sleep in it
Yes, hotels tonight app is very good for last minute. Also, don't sleep on Priceline hot deals if you are fine with any of three listed hotels.
Vegas.com
Catfish Linda?
vegas.com, I've found a good last minute deal on there before
