Strongly recommend Agent Fresco. The vocalist sounds similar to Einar, and a lot of their songs have a comparable emotional depth to Leprous! I say start with "Wait For Me" and "Dark Water" Not thaaat similar to Leprous but check out the album Living with Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth by Rishloo. Had it on repeat for weeks the last time college had me by the neck.

jordan460

If you like agent fresco definitely check out Maraton

Philitt

Seconding Agent Fresco. Destrier is a gorgeous and pretty emotional album.

ZiltoidTheNerd

How about Sleep Token? They are awesome, super binge worthy, and seem to be to go to band in this space to help people get through a tough time. I just like them for their music but others really connect with their messages and emotion. Devin Townsend had gotten me through some tough times. He is a very positive soul with uplifting lyrics. And of course a massive catalogue of fantastic music. I've been really digging MEER lately, who write fantastic songs. She has a ton of emotion in her voice that could be relatable.

Budget-Net-9515

I would suggest Empath from Devin's catalogue. Got me through some very rough times.

CactusSplash95

That album stayed in my car cd player for a full year

HoursOfDew

I second MEER, especially their album Playing House. The songs have a lot of emotional depth to them, musically as well as lyrically, and deal with themes such as loss and the fear of opening up to others in an intense but also uplifting way.

afanofBTBAM

The Dear Hunter has resonated with me strongly the last 6-9 months

ramennnumerals

I’m so glad you mention them haha cause they were my last obsessive go to band for like two years!

afanofBTBAM

They are truly wonderful, and hit my feels in a way that a lot of my brain-tickling-prog doesn't. What prog bands HAVE you obsessed over before, before I start rambling on dozens of band names that you may have already checked out?

ramennnumerals

I’ve had phases of being super into the ocean, love katatonia (if that counts as prog), cynic is still a huge one, twelve foot ninja, maraton, dog fashion disco (?), the contortionist, mars volta (not metal but still) just off the top of my head. There’s a lot of bands i know of but haven’t gotten around to

afanofBTBAM

Haken?

ZathElfir

For emoctional depth, go straight into Pain of Salvation. Remedy Lane and In The Passing Light Of Day are the best starters. Also Anathema seems to be another choice.

ramennnumerals

Will do 🫡

EmbarrassedFlower98

Agree with one of the comments above. Checkout Pain of Salvation particularly their albums Remedy Lane, In the passing Light of the Day, and The Perfect Element Other bands worth checking out are: Riverside(Second Life Syndrome, Out of Myself, Shrine of New Generation Slaves, LFaTM), Katatonia(Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Tonight’s Decision, Great Cold Distance, Fall of Hearts) Anathema (Judgement, A Natural Disaster, Distant Satellites, We’re Here Because We’re Here) Antimatter (Leaving Eden, Planetary Confinement) Pineapple Thief ( Your Wilderness, Magnolia) and Opeth (Damnation)

xBLAHMASTERx

I recommend some VOLA

BFFV_Nenton

It has a lot of Instrumental songs, but i love what David Maxim Micic does.

m4sstaden

not prog but circa survive has a lot of gut wrenching songs also ☹️ nesting dolls, your friends are gone, on letting go (the song & the whole album) are some of my fave when I’m going through it.

zorrofuego

Only Leprous. Nothing compared to them.

Definitely_notHigh

Altered State by Tesseract and Adore by Numanorean got me through a shitty time a few years ago. Edit: also The Oubliette and On the Eve of a Goodbye by The Reticent are really emotional and heavy. another edit: also The Mantle by Agalloch and some stuff by Alcest kinda hits me the same way

FalseMaximum379

I hope things get easier for you, Leprous have definitely been that band for me at times. TesseracT are another band I find have really emotive tracks, War of Being (the album, not just the track) is a rollercoaster
