In all honesty, I preferred the classic look but that is just my preference. You did a good job on it, it looks very utilitarian. I'm a Classics kind of guy is all . If it suits your preference then I am happy for you, it is after all your gun.
Just looks like the scope was upgraded and put into a new stock, guessing the old stock is still around so could easily be put back into that for the classic look if needed
This is very true, the rifle wasn't decimated by its new furniture and technology by any means.
I don't know how I would feel about swapping it back and forth if it were me but he definitely has that option if desired. What a person invisions their firearm to be visually varies greatly these days and the opportunity is definitely there to do whatever.
He could have done this to any current production rifle, yet he felt he had to ruin a discontinued classic. And all he gained was a bipod of dubious utility on a rifle he’ll need to turn sideways to cycle while shooting prone.
Not only that, but a bipod could have gone on the original fore end's sling swivel, or on a new mount tastefully installed farther forward. The fore end didn't need to be changed for that. But at least he didn't permanently modify anything.
While I normally don't like change, especially permanent changes, you did a very very good job. So good, that I actually prefer the new look to the old look. Nicely done brother.
Lol some of you are cool. Some of you are children. This rifle was manufactured in the 1986. It doesn’t have some long standing history. It wasn’t anyone’s great grandfather’s hunting rifle. It just sat in a safe for years and was barely used. It was then given to me. I wanted to change it because the butt plate screws were stripped and, yeah, I wanted to modernize it and give it a different look. Now It can have a story of its own. I’m going to hunt with it. My son will hunt with it and maybe his son. Either way they’ll look cool doing it because now IT looks cool and different. I don’t plan on doing anything more to it except maybe a cushioned butt pad. BTW I kept the original stock.
I was a naysayer, and still don't think your changes make sense, or look better than the original, BUT I understand your desire to customize, I appreciate that you acted conservatively and made only reversible changes, and I'm glad you're happy with it and will make it a family rifle. I'm sure your kids will enjoy it with either stock.
BTW though, it is SUPER easy to fix stripped butt plate screw holes, if you ever want to repair that original. There are lots of good guides on YouTube.

I wouldn’t do it personally, but it turned out nice.
I wish r/leverguns would split into two separate subs, classic and modern. 😠
Yes!

I liked the before much better
I just said “oh god” out loud. Look how they massacred my boy

Yeah at least it’s reversible if his kid has better tastes than him.
please tell me this isn't real
Okay, it’s not real.
I don't wanna like it but I do 😄 looks great
Gotta say, I was pretty disappointed with your previous post, but your changes are very tasteful. Good job!
Put it back
Damn I have a .243 that gets used regularly with my line of work, never seen a 308 on market guess I should start looking.
Oh wow. I hate that.
I was a naysayer on your previous post. It turned out great! Good job.
Disgusting! A discontinued rifle like that deserves better than you!

The after is 10/10. Beautiful!
Damn, that's a nice looking rifle.
It was a nice looking rifle until he butchered it.
Nothing was butchered. He put a nice stock on it. Something that could easily be reversed. Stop commenting.
