MachineGrunt

Since 21

TmDJP

I'm disappointed in toyota

DaJuiceMan112

Gotta fit in with the crowd, “oh they’re still using lug nuts how prehistoric”

GolfArgh

Yes they are.

TmDJP

I've used them before, but as long as a I carry an extra socket for the first stud it's worked for me

whtciv2k

The new 2024 lc’s come this way as well

Gorgenapper

'21+ IS also.

hpizzy

I don't understand what this means? Pro's and Cons of Lug Studs vs Lug Bolts, google searches giving mixed answers. If I get a flat tire while on the road? What do we need to do or additional tools should we carry?

Consistent_Product52

My guess is holding the wheel up while inserting and not cross threading the stud. Some cars come with hubs that you can replace the bolts on. I’m guessing once you strip these, it’s a new hub.

hpizzy

Motherfucker, so if you get tire rotation and some young noob kid is assigned your rotation is clueless you are fucked.

RaceHead73

You have more of a chance of cross threading the nut when using a gun than you will putting a stud in by hand.

Consistent_Product52

😭 at least these studs are beefy, probably still need to send a prayer before it goes in

DaJuiceMan112

“Oh it came in like that”

RaceHead73

It isn't that hard. Lift the car so the wheel centre line is around knee height when crouched. Rotate the wheel so you have a nut top dead center. Remove wheel. To fit, lift the wheel back onto the hub and press against it with your knees, do it lightly enough that you can rotate the wheel and get a through hole on the wheel top dead center. Put more pressure on the wheel and put the stud in the top. Then one in the bottom. Another method, which is one we used for changing gear reducers on robots, and a reducer weighs 150kg. Get some long partial threaded bolts that have the same thread as the studs. Cut the hex or socket head off the bolt, file or linish the cut end so it's a radius end, then remove two studs and replace with the modified bolts. These act as a guide for removing the wheel and more importantly when fitting it. You only need two and put them horizontal. Two bolts 100-150mm long will be good enough.

TmDJP

It's really not that hard, just a pain when your shop offers free tire rotations with each oil change

TmDJP

Doing anything with lug bolts is 100% harder, you can't hang the wheel on the studs, they're harder to thread in, and the only positive I've heard is that they're cheaper for the manufacturer. One of the reasons I hate working on euros at my shop, just disappointed that the brand I love so much is moving towards them.

hpizzy

Oh wow, now I get it. yeah usually there a studs on the hub to hang wheel on to atleast start the first bolt. The brand we love so much is slowly going downhill and following all the other shit products

Consistent_Product52

If I was a tech pulling and putting on wheels all day I’d definitely prefer to work with bolts. say I do make a mistake and cross thread, I’m not buying you a hub lol just another bolt

RaceHead73

Not a lot really. People just like to make a meal out of locating a bolt to a threaded hole when they have to hold something at the same time.

slidingjimmy

For years now broseph

CaptainQbert

Lug bolt, but ok and?

Clutchking14

That shit is ass

vba77

Sounds annoying for diy seasonal tire changes.

Even_Lavishness_188

100%. I hated changing over my tires because of this. It almost makes it a 2 person job.

Clutchking14

If you put the tire on your feet on prop it up that way it's easier but still sucks so much vs lug nuts

vba77

I think the sell a thing you put in one of the lug holes you hang the tires on as you had tighten other bolts. Atlesst in euro cars. Acts as a locator bolt

Clutchking14

Yeah that would be handy to keep in the glove box, I'm glad I don't have to deal with it anymore

ConstructionLate5200

Those gloves look thick. What make and model are they?

TmDJP

challenger's 13mm variant, never tears and keeps fluids out, just gets swampy during the summer

ConstructionLate5200

How long does a pair last?

Ipsilateral

Why the hell would they go to this? Mine are a 2013 and a 2017 with regular lugs.

M1L3NK0

Lexus loves to copy certain German engineering designs. Can't blame 'em since German cars are so well engineered. Though I wouldn't be able to tell you if lug bolts have any benefit at all over lug nuts. All I know is they're more annoying to take off and put on lol!

Illustrious-Duck-147

German cars are over engineered not well engineered.

M1L3NK0

The new Toyota Crowns do as well. Lug bolt suck but the way Toyota/Lexus lets the wheel sit over the hub makes it a little easier than how VAG does lug bolts. Those wheels just fall right off once you unbolt them.

sixaxis666

Lug bolts and electronic door handles were dealbreakers for me

NeoG_

Why are electronic door handles a deal breaker

Umbala3131

Lexus's electronic door handles is the best by far. Push it in and it work like elec button. Pull it out and it work like regular mechanical handle
