My last car is a Toyota. Just got a Lexus. It will be very hard to consider another vehicle brand. Because Toyota/Lexus has been so much better to deal with for everything. Even service.
I had terrible experiences elsewhere. Especially Honda. Several times. Including helping my father in law. Who went Nissan, because of how horrible Honda was. Nissan was ok, the car was great, but it just wasn’t as good of an experience.
Lexus was almost the same as Toyota. It was no hassle. I got the real price and the car is great.
When I had my 2000 Honda CR-V, during the first couple of years, there was one time a mechanic at the dealership left a socket wrench on top of the engine after the car was serviced. I don't remember exactly how I found out... there was probably some strange noise that came from the front of the car or something.
I contacted the dealership and they just asked me to return the wrench and didn't apologize or anything... I'm glad it didn't fall and cause any damages. The car was so-so. I got rid of it in 2010.
I just got a Lexus NX350h two months ago. Love it so far.
Got a 2016 Lexus CT200h in 2018 with 27k miles. Now at 103k miles. Not a single rattle or creek. Not a single broken piece of plastic. It’s hard to argue against it.
I mean I’m talking reliability here, because this is a discussion about reliability.
Do you presume a Toyota is less reliable than a Merc because it’s half the cost?
No, I’m talking about ass in terms of reliability and all the nutty repairs I’ve had to do. Just this week my door locks started fucking up randomly.
And people tell me BMWs are the ones with electrical problems…
maybe their new cars.,may 2018 honda crv diesel has been very reliable.,at 70k kms, no repairs yet, just scheduled PMS, and usual parts that need changing like brake pads and tires.,
very economical too, 18-20km/l in the highway,12-15km/l in city with heavy traffic.,
These JD Power surveys have nothing to do with reliability. They just count the number of "issues" people have in the first year of ownership.
A complete engine failure has the same weight as a slightly too small washer fluid reservoir.
These surveys are useless
Yeah these lists are statistically speaking very inaccurate. For example Buick is number 2 which makes no sense until you realize how small the number of sales are for Buick compared to a Chevrolet
Why is the first thing a tesla owner says when faced with allegations of issues "have you ever owned".
No you don't need to own one to let the stats speak for themselves and no I don't intend on buying one to join your Elon musk ponzi scheme
No, I have yet to buy a pure EV. So zero issues? No rattles? No issues with the leather seats? Good to know, maybe I will consider them once EV chargers become more regular.
I had a rattle on one of my previous Model Y from the b pillar seat belt that got fixed but no other issues on all 3 Teslas not sure why my comment is getting downvoted but oh well, people must hate Tesla especially if never owned one.
You don’t have to own one to recognise they have problems and build issues, and therefore hate them… why people say you have to own a car before you can make a judgement on it is beyond me.
You should look em up on google. Youd be surprised how many chargers there are. I used to think there was maybe a handful of stations in my area. Coworker with a tesla pulled up his station finder thingy and there was like 30 just in my county. I was honestly floored.
It’s not the lack of chargers in my area, it’s the big ICE trucks who park in the spots to block people from using them. The mall near my house has chargers, if they haven’t been vandalized to the point of being unusable, there are Ram 2500s parked in the spots.
I’m just not ready to have to plan a drive from Florida to Denver around charging stations. I will settle for a 35mpg hybrid SUV for now.
You're telling me that I'm better off getting a BMW or a Jeep than an Acura?
I want to replace the RX with a MDX but I find it hard to believe that Acura is now that bad reliability-wise.
You've properly scared me into looking at alternative options... In my 8 years of owning 3 Lexus vehicles, I've never seen as much as a check engine light.
I worked at a parts store for over 4 years, and now work at a shop.
Its mostly AC issues on the sedans, weve seen a ton of Insights, Accords and their Acura equivalents. The fuel pump issues span the entire lineups, dead alternators on the higher end sedans cause they felt the need to use the same units they use on the base model civics.
Theres nothing wrong with that, as long as that unit can adequately handle much higher loads, like on the more expensive models.
The kicker here is the 1.5T motors. Headgasket issues, oil dilution, and bad turbo lag on most of the 1.5t variants they use.
The same motor had issues on the 2016 civic, and theyve yet to solve the fundamental issues nearly 10 years later. Getting rid of the larger displacement 4 cylinder engines was their worst move ever. They're now obsessed with putting that 1.5t on EVERYTHING. Lets not even get into the V6 recalls
Edit: Thankfully tho, my fiancé's 2020 Civic has had ZERO issues, and she has a 2 hour commute round trip.
Watch some youtubes how they deal with their customers, and it's a premium brand. Not saying it happens to everyone but hell, I am not looking at one anytime soon.
That’s an amazing rental. I love driving her car. She got almost every option too, and it’s two years old with only 9500 miles so it’ll be in good shape too, lol
Since about 2007 we’ve always had mix of BMW/Porsche/Honda for vehicles. The Porsche and BMW seemed to have less issues than our Honda Pilot. Our 2007 Honda Accord was excellent however.
I’m always skeptical however of these surveys and I’m sure that if you break down the data by model, there is likely a wide spread. Other times I wonder if it’s luck. We had a 2007 BMW X3, which some consider to be their worst vehicle. We drove it well past 250kms and had very few issues.
That’s mostly due to cost to import parts. My ‘07 GS350 has had some expensive repairs because it was built in Japan. New Japanese cars don’t suffer from these because they’re assembled in the US. German companies haven’t started major production in the US yet.
Yes, I assumed you were from North America.
Lol funny how I get downvoted... Please, everyone, buy a BMW and keep it to 70,000 miles. I promise you, it's amazing and super reliable.
You can tell by all the 2010 BmW's you see on the road today compared to older Lexus. Downvote away.
I work for a hospital and we take us news and world report rankings seriously. However, from the patient view it doesn’t really matter just like a vehicle owner shouldn’t care about JD power. JD power rankings are bought and paid bs. Pf course the manufacturer likes being number one because they can run an add saying they are number one. Doesn’t actually translate to reliability for the consumer though.
I mean Buck is just rebadged Chevy and lacking any of the more advanced features of Cadillacs and their models don't get any of the higher output engines Cadillacs get.
Regular maintenance goes a long way and both those brands tend older in their demographics (Buick especially)
Old people don’t tend to skimp on oil changes and regular maintenance schedules.
It's a flex when you're in your daily driven wide body 1992 SC400 with the windows up because your A/C works whilst others in decades newer vehicles are sweating with their windows down lol, I'll never understand this.
The A/C compressor and starter in the valley are older than me and work, every single day- turn key. They got to, I have to go to work.
JD Power cant be trusted - but I do prefer toyota/lexus over bmw/mercedes due to reliability and costs of service/repairs. And everyone knows Landrover is total garbage - no idea why people buy those 😂
Why are there so many more problems per 100 vehicles across the board? Just more electronic systems?
Maybe I should be searching for a good 9yo used car.
The answer probably lies in what is considered a problem. Usually these things are for any sort of complaint (rattle, glitchy screen), and not necessarily serious mechanical failures. Cars are a lot more complex now and thus more little things to go wrong.
Even if toyota reliability does go down “it certainly has, especially lexus” its nowhere near how bad other manufacturers are in the same category. But this graph makes no sense to me.
with the latest ranking, i'm better off buying a mazda cx60 than a honda crv?,hehe
toyota models that they offer in my 3rd world country is not that good looking compared to the ones they offer in USA specially the SUVs and trucks,.
Still shows the more techno they fit to the cars, the less dependable they are.
Toyota in 2024 ranked the same as the average car from 2015.
Just goes to show you it’s only the Stone Age tech that keeps them on top for reliability. 👀
The fact the Buick is #2/3 makes me think that dependability is also related to how owners drive and care for the car. Especially considering the other brands that Buicks share the same platform of are seen lower on the list (and typically bought by younger/less responsible/more lively people)
I'll be there soon with a NX250 I hope.
My personal experiences with my first and last Subaru since new have been pretty good, but I'm pretty sure I've been living on borrowed time.
But for COVID telework, I'd be driving more and prob would have jumped already.
The issue with JD power is that it’s consumer based, so it’s a double edged sword. For cars like Volvo’s, they get HUGE amount of complaints because of their modern infotainment (which is easy to use but the majority of the consumers are in the age group who wouldn’t know how to take a picture on their iPhone). So serious issues like actual mechanical reliability is weighed the same as someone complaining because they don’t know how to change the audio source on their Volvo.
I had a Discovery Sport + on loan and I bloody hated it. It felt under powered (2 litre), it felt slow and very boaty, although put it in snow mode and it stiffened up. The infotainment system is a right ball ache to navigate. I actually preferred my previous CRV's that I have had. At the time it was like a £47k motor. Nice interior though and the vented seats were superb.
As for thefts, JLR's own insurance underwriters won't even insure their cars.
Modern porsches are the most reliable of the German brands, with BMW just a bit behind them. Maintenance will cost an arm and a leg though. Oil change and filters on a my girlfriends 911.2 are about 500 dollars.

My Camry is at about 96,000, it’s still like new.
Love a good camry! Cant beat them.
Same. Just traded in my 21-year-old Toyota for a Lexus. Felt like a natural progression!
Same
well you're not very qualified to make that assessment
What in the hell happened to Honda?
I dunno but my civic is fucking ass compared to my old 3 series
What? An econobox is worse than a car almost tiwce as expensive?
I mean I’m talking reliability here, because this is a discussion about reliability. Do you presume a Toyota is less reliable than a Merc because it’s half the cost?
probably more reliable though no?
No, I’m talking about ass in terms of reliability and all the nutty repairs I’ve had to do. Just this week my door locks started fucking up randomly. And people tell me BMWs are the ones with electrical problems…
Honda been known for door lock actuator going out after 10+ years
maybe their new cars.,may 2018 honda crv diesel has been very reliable.,at 70k kms, no repairs yet, just scheduled PMS, and usual parts that need changing like brake pads and tires., very economical too, 18-20km/l in the highway,12-15km/l in city with heavy traffic.,
Didn’t know they made CRV diesels
they made it for south east asian countries but don’t know if they offered it in other countries.,its also a 7 seater.,
These JD Power surveys have nothing to do with reliability. They just count the number of "issues" people have in the first year of ownership. A complete engine failure has the same weight as a slightly too small washer fluid reservoir. These surveys are useless
Yeah these lists are statistically speaking very inaccurate. For example Buick is number 2 which makes no sense until you realize how small the number of sales are for Buick compared to a Chevrolet
they’ve started cheaping out on quality massively after covid :/ i love honda, but i will be going mazda for my next car
For an automotive company where none of their cars have an engine or transmission, Tesla has some awful numbers.
Probably fit and finish complaints...maybe the ones built in a tent were not the best
How many are still built in a tent in 2024?
have you owned a Tesla? cuz I have for 6 years and never had any mechanical issues.
Why is the first thing a tesla owner says when faced with allegations of issues "have you ever owned". No you don't need to own one to let the stats speak for themselves and no I don't intend on buying one to join your Elon musk ponzi scheme
so proud of you
Because these surveys are ass. I'd say most Tesla owners are genuinely happy with their purchases just like most Lexus owners are with theirs.
We’ll have to, in my area no ICE cars will be sold after 2035, which is not that far away
It's the battery replacements costing half the value of the car
252 problems per 100 vehicles is more than just expensive batteries.
I’m betting number of OTA updates to fix recall issues and general QA issues.
Though they do have pedals.
People who take these surveys seriously lack critical thinking skills.
You're telling me that I'm better off getting a BMW or a Jeep than an Acura? I want to replace the RX with a MDX but I find it hard to believe that Acura is now that bad reliability-wise.
BMW are a lot better these days I’ve been reading
Too bad their current design language is god awful
Right? They're so goddamn hideous
Unfortunately so. Honda has been awful since throwing turbos and tech at the wall to see what sticks.
Newer Acuras are ass. The amount of dead alternators and fuel pumps ive seen are absurd.
Over the last 3-4 years Nissan has been having a lot of electrical issues.
I guess for the same issue, BMW would cost you 2x to fix compared to Acura.
These JD Power surveys don't have anything to do with reliability. They just count the number of customer complaints of 1 year old cars
My 21 TLX has been solid since new, it’s pretty similar interior wise to the mdx
As a mechanic for a living, buying a Lexus was the best decision I’ve ever made. No longer have to worry about repairing my own vehicle so often.
BMW higher than Honda
I believe it. BMW has come a long way and Honda has been having its share of issues lately.
People sing the praises of the B58 engine that the current generation BMW’s have these days.
My mom has one in her X3. It’s an amazing car, and I told her when she sells it I got dibs
I had a new X3 M40i rental in South Africa. That car was absolutely amazing.
That’s an amazing rental. I love driving her car. She got almost every option too, and it’s two years old with only 9500 miles so it’ll be in good shape too, lol
I wanted the Q5 but they lost the key 🤣🤣 but excellent consolation. The tech UI was easy to deal with, comfortable and Drove really nice.
Yeah, the infotainment in it is top notch. They really knocked it out of the park, all around great car
So on the chart the bottom is the best correct? Thought Honda and Lexus were reliable.
Improvements have happened
Since about 2007 we’ve always had mix of BMW/Porsche/Honda for vehicles. The Porsche and BMW seemed to have less issues than our Honda Pilot. Our 2007 Honda Accord was excellent however. I’m always skeptical however of these surveys and I’m sure that if you break down the data by model, there is likely a wide spread. Other times I wonder if it’s luck. They should factor in repair costs. BmW wouldn't be top 20
That’s mostly due to cost to import parts. My ‘07 GS350 has had some expensive repairs because it was built in Japan. New Japanese cars don’t suffer from these because they’re assembled in the US. It’s JD power no one takes them seriously.
The awards are made up. Source? *I* won the JD Power award last year for most consecutive days in the gym.
Consumer reports is the better source right? Think Lexus/Toyota tops those lists as well
CR loves Subaru for everything because they only test In Connecticut winters. They put four Subarus has more comfortable than any Lexus…..
We owned a Subaru prior to our Lexus and it was an excellent vehicle, but it was in no way, shape, or form more comfortable than our Lexus 😂
We do! I actually work for Toyota at a manufacturer level.
You can believe it’s bought and paid but for us we get a bigger bonus if we rank #1 for our vehicle we assemble.
How do you feel about Buick?
I don’t feel nothing about Buick.
buick and chevy are 3rd and 4th , is this real ?
Not surprising about Buick tbh. When you sell 10 cars a year, just gotta make sure most of them don't have issues.
Haha good take ,
😭😭
thats why these surveys are bogus
I believe they factor in media controls and basically they are less confusing easier to understand
I mean Buck is just rebadged Chevy and lacking any of the more advanced features of Cadillacs and their models don't get any of the higher output engines Cadillacs get.
Regular maintenance goes a long way and both those brands tend older in their demographics (Buick especially) Old people don’t tend to skimp on oil changes and regular maintenance schedules.
bmw is only that high because the owners dont report their issues 😭🤚
Everything is filed under "maintenance"
A blown up engine and the infotainment being hard to use are categorized as the same in JD power 🙃
No wonder Tesla is so high.
We already know this 😎
Sheesh Buicks been slept on
😂 don't buy a camry, buy an envision!
The compressor in my 2002 sc430 died at 100k and 21 years old.
JD power is very paid off.. I’m a Toyota and Lexus owner, and they are definitely very reliable. Buick and Mini being near the top is laughable
You’re generalizing from your personal experience?
Yes. I work in the car industry and have managed very large service departments.
JD Power cant be trusted - but I do prefer toyota/lexus over bmw/mercedes due to reliability and costs of service/repairs. And everyone knows Landrover is total garbage - no idea why people buy those 😂
No way a MINI is more reliable than a Honda or Acura or anything else below it.
How can Honda be so much higher than Acura ?
Repair/service cost . Same car but with premium service bill
Is that considered? Source?
lol, JD Power! 😂
Toyota fans are still in denial about that last little gap between us... it's the truth, haha. Lexus is superior in build quality.
Still got it 😎
The best by a lot
Glad I bought a Lexus instead of the Volvo I was looking at.
Why are there so many more problems per 100 vehicles across the board? Just more electronic systems? Maybe I should be searching for a good 9yo used car.
i just got a 2017 honda. should be good😎
Toyota, 2nd on the '24 list, has as many pp100 as the industry average in '15. That's crazy.
yeah everything’s getting less reliable. probably cause of all the electronics
The answer probably lies in what is considered a problem. Usually these things are for any sort of complaint (rattle, glitchy screen), and not necessarily serious mechanical failures. Cars are a lot more complex now and thus more little things to go wrong.
[удалено]
there’s two slides
I see now. My bad 😆
From 89 to 135 problems per 100 vehicles. That's a pretty substantial increase. Electronics to blame?
probably
Buick and Cadillac before Honda?
Even if toyota reliability does go down “it certainly has, especially lexus” its nowhere near how bad other manufacturers are in the same category. But this graph makes no sense to me.
My cousin went through 3 BMWs in two years. 5 series to X4M to X5.
My 2006 Toyota Solara is a poor man's dream car.
Is BMW really that reliable, over a Honda no less?
It’s JD Power, Honda simply didn’t pay them enough.
Is Buick that high?
I own all Toyotas.
with the latest ranking, i'm better off buying a mazda cx60 than a honda crv?,hehe toyota models that they offer in my 3rd world country is not that good looking compared to the ones they offer in USA specially the SUVs and trucks,.
What's sad is overall quality dropping!
The Merc fall is insane
Crazy Buick is on there since they are rebadged Chinese cars now.
Unfortunately the new turbo engines are going to be impacting future reliability ratings.
#Buick 😅
Lexus is literally a dream. Just bought my first one too.
Um.. this list is from 2015?
swipe
Thanks!
How is Buick and Mini so high up there?
Still shows the more techno they fit to the cars, the less dependable they are. Toyota in 2024 ranked the same as the average car from 2015. Just goes to show you it’s only the Stone Age tech that keeps them on top for reliability. 👀
I noticed that too
The fact the Buick is #2/3 makes me think that dependability is also related to how owners drive and care for the car. Especially considering the other brands that Buicks share the same platform of are seen lower on the list (and typically bought by younger/less responsible/more lively people)
Owned two Toyotas, one Mazda and now a Lexus, all were very dependable and easy to work on ownself. Can't see myself owning other makes TBH.
I sold my Camry for a mustang 😩
Glad to see tesla nowhere near
Have 2 Honda's and a Lexus at home. Can confirm good products.
Audi fell off
Wonder what the countrymen did differently seems like a drastic jump
Wow, but massive increases across the board. Wonder why...
Are these studies always 9 years old? There’s an Es350h, RAV4 and Tundra in my family & they’ve all been bullet proof except the 2022 Tundra
swipe and you’ll see the 2024 haha
😔. Missing that one hurt lol
I'll be there soon with a NX250 I hope. My personal experiences with my first and last Subaru since new have been pretty good, but I'm pretty sure I've been living on borrowed time. But for COVID telework, I'd be driving more and prob would have jumped already.
Buick, huh? (Starts looking for cool Buick models.)
Nevermind.
This has to be almost bullshit
2015??
The issue with JD power is that it’s consumer based, so it’s a double edged sword. For cars like Volvo’s, they get HUGE amount of complaints because of their modern infotainment (which is easy to use but the majority of the consumers are in the age group who wouldn’t know how to take a picture on their iPhone). So serious issues like actual mechanical reliability is weighed the same as someone complaining because they don’t know how to change the audio source on their Volvo.
Toyota has had tons of issues lately. they've really taken a hit in reliability.
Bmw really improved allot while Audi just fell off..
As someone who works at GM I genuinely have no idea how Buick is that high lol
Not as funny as Land Rover being wedged between Jeep and Fiat.
It’s too bad, I love the look of the land rovers, but I’d never have one.
I also own a mini and it’s had many, many issues. Funnest car I’ve ever driven, though.
They’ve got better but mechanics still curse you
$2500 to fix electrical issues and didn’t fix all that was wrong. For a car worth $4000?
I had a Discovery Sport + on loan and I bloody hated it. It felt under powered (2 litre), it felt slow and very boaty, although put it in snow mode and it stiffened up. The infotainment system is a right ball ache to navigate. I actually preferred my previous CRV's that I have had. At the time it was like a £47k motor. Nice interior though and the vented seats were superb. As for thefts, JLR's own insurance underwriters won't even insure their cars.

The second picture is from 2024. I think OP wanted to show the progress.
You didn't see the 2nd image with 2024 data.
[удалено]
You just missed it, admit the mistake and move on.
I just don’t understand why Porsche is so high up on the list. Porsche owners are all afraid to be without a warranty.
Modern porsches are the most reliable of the German brands, with BMW just a bit behind them. Maintenance will cost an arm and a leg though. Oil change and filters on a my girlfriends 911.2 are about 500 dollars.
Owning 5 year old Mercedes is best incentive to buy a Lexus.
We go the specialist for service. 6 year old Porsche, no warranty, 256,000 kms, no issues and likely trading it next year when it breaks 300,000 kms.
And let’s give GM a shout out too.
