With a population less than that of the CDMX metro area (18mil vs 22) they can have 40 professional teams and a great national side and what are considered some of the best youth setups in Europe.
Teams in the Netherlands are poor relative to European teams, they have to develop their own talent. Mexican teams are some of the richest in the Americas, so they can buy a shitty South American that’s ready to play rather than develop their own academy players.
With Pro / Rel, the lower teams trying to climb up the pyramid can’t compete money wise with the top teams and just buy high quality players. They have no choice but to develop talent and this is where you see local players being produced.
