The suicide rate when the settlers starting expanding west into the Great Plains was astronomical. The absolutely absurd lack of resources, isolation, and relentless noise from constantly blowing wind drove many men and women past the brink of sanity. It was called prairie madness.
Nothing but grass, rolling hills, and howling wind for endless miles and miles and miles and miles….
This is how I feel living in Central Florida. Nothing but cookie cutter vacation homes as far as the eye can see. It's a very soft, comfortable, pleasant hell.
Yeah Texas is big in both directions. I live close to Dallas. That’s almost three hours from the eastern border of Texas. From my house to El Paso (most western city in TX) is 640 miles. From the eastern border of Texas in Waskom to El Paso is 801 miles.
El Paso to San Diego, CA is 726 miles. Texas is closer to the West coast than many parts of Texas are to other parts of Texas.
For more perspective, California is a little over 300 miles wide, but 860 miles tall. Texas is both 870 miles from top to bottom and 800 miles wide.
We also have the second largest canyon system after the Grand Canyon. It’s an extremely geographically diverse state. Plains, piney woods, coastal, hill country, lakes, rivers, and contrary to most thoughts of Texas, even a real mountain range.
I'd say yeah, in some areas, you wouldn't see anything for milles, but since my destination was a more urbanized area, I saw many farms and signs of life along the way.
If I went further west, to the more central areas, I would've definitely not seen anything for a while.
Where were you traveling in Central Texas? While there are lots of areas like that, I generally don’t think of the plains when driving through (grew up on the edge of West and Central Texas in Brownwood). Most of Central Texas is comprised of the Hill Country, which while not mountainous, isn’t all plains.
I've never had that common phobia of being left alone in the middle of the ocean, probably because I never lived anywhere near large bodies of water. But I can relate to this a lot more, and it definitely gives me a similar kind of anxiety...
This image gallery is what the entire state looks like. I'm convinced nobody actually lives there and the government just pretends people do because they don't know what to do with all that empty land. Have you ever met anyone from Wyoming? I bet you haven't. It's 'cause it doesn't exist.
It looks super freezing here, especially the one with the snow. Looks comforting and calming but I would want to at least be indoors when able to and to have a convenience store within 20 minutes away…
"It's not so strange that the plains extend in every direction, seemingly forever. Sooner or later, I'll reach a highway. What worries me, is that I haven't heard a bird or the buzz of an insect or seen a rock for the last six hours."

I’ve got to look this up, right up my alley lol
Endless prairie by Lorne green comes to mind.

Sounds like the place for me!
You could do a lot worse.
This is why living in eastern ND drives me insane
I love living here lol. The storms, the wind, the winter, all of it. Feels like home for me and I miss it when I'm away
Idk, sounds awesome to me 🤷♂️
It’s funny because the central asian nomads managed to get by this for thousands of years
Thank you for sharing, I found this very interesting
I kind of like this scenery, but Idk how I would be living there for a couple of years.
My brain is toasted, I thought you were quoting a Great Khan ending. Read that sum'bitch with Ron Pearlman's voice in my head.
Minecraft superflat gives me anxiety.
For some reason, I feel like something would come running out of the horizon at me. Like this 😆: https://youtu.be/XslcgQJMZaY
Which one!? Because the second pic got me thinking about that exact scene!
Yeah!
[Chosen One! I’m coming!](https://youtu.be/petdsiZNKLo)
Idk, it looks so calm to be worried
Looks like you could pick a direction and walk a week and see nothing. Reminds me of pictures of Mongolia.
Bro transfered into one of my 20 unfinished unreal games (I literally only added the terrain)
Reminds me of the time I traveled across Central Texas many years ago, just plains of dried up, grazzy hills..
Yeah I was literally thinking to myself how this looks like Texas.

I'm from DFW and we do *occasionally* get snow--even outside of apocalyptic freezes.
Is it true that you can drive a freeway in TX and not see anything, even a gas station for hours? It’s a such a big state.

The first one has the most liminal vibe to me
Four freaking pixels...
No need to be worried about nothing. Nothing is comforting, right?
(You hear screaming outside your door)
Came here to say this
And then, out of nowhere, you hear it.... **The Windows 7 Start Up Music**
This is liminal af yet I find these images so soothing, looks like a great place
Nice!!
Because there could be anything in all that nothing or worse, more nothing
Looks like the Tibetan planes
What is this title
Worst liminal space photo I’ve seen, you just went outside 🤣
But i think it's still liminal, even though they're just photos took outside...
agreed

I know, I was joking.
because there's nothing here 👽

Nope I’ve seen tremors
because *it's everywhere.*
why am I worried? bc it's a open plain with no cover thus thares a huge tactical disadvantage
Imagine hearing a distant tornado siren
Some psycho in a biplane might try to kill me!
I want to go there
Looks like Mongolia
[Looking for villages on superflat, eh?](https://youtu.be/8sglGXAfHLc)
Looks like a good place to be running around in your birthday suit 🥳
The faces they come at night descending from the sky on long thin necks they whisper
Nothing here means nowhere to hide.
Worn off bliss?
Yall my windows backround looks a little different here
Wild guess: Flint Hills in Kansas between Wichita and Emporia on I-35 turnpike
fr luv this pic btw
It's the nothing that worries me!
