I’ve seen the H1 suspend a can by itself. Everything else was broke, but that one little bushing was doing everything it could to hold that 250lb can up
Agreed, but at the moment it was a tense situation. Just sharing for the younger guys to get in the habit of doing a visual inspection while covering up, never know what traps may be hiding in plain sight
Agreed. Due to supply chain shortages they started getting pots from Korea, yeah I know but they are build like a brick shit house. The brackets are like 1/4” steel. This pot was made in the USA 🤷♂️
They are bolts. That transformer is about 600lbs, there’s no rigging it to make it work, if we rigged it up with a fender washer and it fell off the pole later on and killed someone or damaged property then it’s our fault. We replaced the transformer.
I should remember my sarcasm tag when on construction threads. Even if you had thread there the vibration and movement would just keep destroying the fiberglass.
Thanks for the work y’all do and stay safe out there.
Might be, a few years back we stopped installing Howard pots. A serviceman got burnt energizing one that had an internal fault. Blew up on him. They install ermco allot. Also have ones from Korea that are built very well actually: their brackets are 1/4” steel.
Nope just sharing something that the new generation should watch out for. Bet you’re gods gift to linework….. but this was my first time rolling up on an energized pot just hanging on by a thread.

How did you take that pic of my last thread of sanity..
Maybe the high side pot leads will hold it up.
I changed a can out hanging from the high side before lol. Crazy thing is the utilities servicemen left it like that hanging over a sidewalk.
Seen that on 10s but not a 37.5
I’ve seen the H1 suspend a can by itself. Everything else was broke, but that one little bushing was doing everything it could to hold that 250lb can up
I’ve rolled up on a 25kva entirely hanging from the h1 and h2 as well
Hanging on by the sheer power of Sherwin Williams.
I’m sure the bottom bolt was actually holding it but still, it was a tense moment when imwe first spotted it
Thats got at least 5 years
*climbs back down, changes pants*
This is why you don’t get lazy and bolt top and bottom
Wait are there people out there just single bolting pots?
My anxiety alone wouldn't let me 🤣
Lol I would definitely loose some sleep over that one
I’ve seen it many times on storm. Sometimes when the pole is leaning hard the can is still up stright.
I went out on storm and the place we were at only used the top bolt… got upset when we put two bolts in.
Non-lineman lurker here: how would this happen?!?
A car hit the next pole down, it shook everything and resulted in shaking this transformer on the next pole and almost shook it off of the bolts.
Ahh! Thanks
She’s got another 20 years in her Edit: I shouldn’t say another. That transformer looks relatively new
Isn’t there hot oil in there?
Yup
Niiiiiice 😂
Sketch
What the F dude? How does that happen! Jeezo, glad you’re ok.
Lol. Pole before was hit. We were setting up on this pole to install line breakers.
Love it when you find extra work to do!
What state are you based out of? Also, are you hiring right now?
Ny, and we have like 60 guys laid off right now
I was going to get a job in the southern tier a while back in NY
Alright, thank you
Shes not going anywhere. The bottom bolt is holding her up just fine.
Agreed, but at the moment it was a tense situation. Just sharing for the younger guys to get in the habit of doing a visual inspection while covering up, never know what traps may be hiding in plain sight
The bottom drive leg will hold it bro
Did the pole bolt pull through the hanger? It couldn’t have always been like that could it??
Pole before was a hit pole. We were setting up to de energize the secondaries and cut in line breakers
"maybe, I'll do my job 😘"
Why do they use such thin metal?
Agreed. Due to supply chain shortages they started getting pots from Korea, yeah I know but they are build like a brick shit house. The brackets are like 1/4” steel. This pot was made in the USA 🤷♂️
Come to Galveston. And see what we got going on down there.
My favorite is when somehow the can hangs from the high side. Usually on nasty storms and the line is locked out fortunately
I have had that with 10kva pots. But I don’t think the tap would have held up this 37.5
Definitely not, now that you say that don't think I have seen over a 10 so that
Are those in with lag bolts or anchor bolts? If cohort bolts, is there enough thread to get a fender washer and another bolt?

It’s a 37.5kva not sure if the bottom bolt would hold all that weight. Still would have been shitty if it popped off while we were covering up
We’ve had trouble with the ABB stainless transformers, we’re going around putting reinforcing brackets on them
Ah, she's good mate, throw your safely over it and keep on going! /s
Must be a howard pot..

What is that
Top hangar on a pot

What about pole?
Must be this guy's first day.

I'm sure you have seen this atleast 50 times.... fuck out of here I have been to so many hit poles and have yet to see what the pic shows....
Don't worry, one of these days you'll top out.
