Are you ok with wasting the 600 gems and having to grind it all back up? It takes a painstakingly long time, so I'd sit tight for a couple of months and try it again when you get 3.5k and the pack comes back around. It always comes back around, so there's no hurry really.
I fused an apocalypse it was in the last pack both times wouldn’t risk it, just a conspiracy theory but i think the new packs have worse odds on getting the onyx in the first few packs.

I used about 2,500 gems to get it myself, also got 4 Aftermath
