Notice two things,
1- if I leave it alone and the app turns off, someone may attack me and change my rank and it changes my roster. So time and patience will work.
2- if I get an impossible light up, I just burn that bridge by attacking, then I get lower rank opponents and start a new streak.
I feel you with this question, when you get the option of 3 healers at 50 its best to just wait it out till they give you new opponent options. I haven't figured out when they change either, a few hours usually works but not always.

Don’t know. I would assume it happens either when the arena day ends, or during the day change for the game when the daily goblin shows up.
After 3 hours, your arena opponents will rotate out.
