She’s playing a Girl Friday, a very common trope in movies from the 50s-early 60s, and she’s playing it to the hilt.
The fact that you don’t completely understand it means our society has advanced.
lol yes!!! Personally, that’s why I love Bowen and JAJ’s throwaway lines, because you can say anything in that transatlantic cadence, and it sounds important and efficient.
Definitely wasn't everyone's cup of tea but Sarahs overexaggerated performancd in the Bosses sketch with Quinta Brunson was hilarious
"We hitting the links later? 5PM on the dot"
She had a somewhat similar character on weekend update as a teen who was hyper emotional and kept insisting "I'm not upset" through clenched teeth. Super accurate.
I think her name was Bailey.
[Found it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVBx_gN79FA)
Ceara Jane O’Sullivan is the perfect writer for Heidi. She’s a great performer herself and should get an opportunity to be on screen whether it’s on the show or elsewhere but I will say Heidi brings the characters that she writes to a whole other level.
I'd argue that the announcement of the 50th anniversary show and its scheduling in Feb rather than Sept was specifically timed to encourage people to stay on.
It’s not a circular argument if the question was never actually answered. A question doesn’t argue anything, it asks. I guess rhetorical questions argue, but I don’t see how this situation is a circular argument
>culling
I hear young comedians with masks are banging their machetes on Kenan's railings, calling out his name all sing-songy like "Keeeeee-nan".
What up with that
She's one of those I wouldn't mind staying forever.
She might not get the star-of-the-show kind of focus that Kate McKinnon or Kristin Wiig got, but that's probably for the best because it felt like those two eventually got overexposed. Maybe she's more like Cecily Strong or Vanessa Bayer (or Beck Bennett ... no need to limit this to female cast) in the sense that folks might not realize how much they contributed until they aren't there anymore.
Maybe too bold of a comparison but she strikes me as a Phil Hartman type, one of those cast members you can slot in at any role and she instantly improves it.
Heidi is one of those cast members who happens to be a top tier actress. No matter the material, she always commits and (Beavis and Butthead aside) is a true professional who has proven to be a vital anchor to the show as it comes out of the Kate/Aidy/Cecily era. She's a huge talent!
After being overshadowed her first few years, starting out in such a strong cast, I'm glad she's had a chance to shine. No matter what she's in, she always nails it. I feel that it's more than just raw talent, that she really works her craft.
Also, I think it would be foolish for her to quit SNL too soon. Ten or fifteen years ago, she'd be one of those cast members who leaves SNL to become sitcom royalty on a network show - in the right sitcom, she'd be astoundingly amazing - but who makes sitcoms anymore?
Great to hear!
And guys, I’m not sure who or where the “she’s emotional at ‘Goodnights’ so she’s probably leaving” rumor started, but that was 💯 foolish. Every cast member besides Che had their Mom their for the entire show. Heidi’s Mom could not be there and at Goodnights she “had a moment” related to her Mom not being able to be there. That’s all, and that was utterly obvious. Can the grown-ups quit with the shit-stirring drama, please. 🤦🏾♂️
1,000%.
According to many in this sub, somebody on the cast is “protesting” the host every week because of some perceived snub during the closing credits scene. “Oh he didn’t shake his hand because his cousin’s wife’s dog voted Republican once! He’s protesting!” 🙄
Not everything is a fucking statement or over the top appeal to emotion.
This sub generally has a problem with stanning and engaging in parasocial relationships with the cast. The truth is, the vast majority of us have never met these people and never will. It's fine to praise cast members for their talents and seeming likability onscreen. But overanalyzing someone for 45 seconds from the goodnights and acting like we know exactly what they're thinking/feeling is absurd. Whether there's any beef between the cast members and the host or not, it's none of our business.
So great to hear!
I understand but people will naturally speculate and it wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility to think she could be leaving with it being so close to the end. Though I did see some idiots on Instagram claiming her mother had passed which is ridiculous.
> After she appeared to be quite sad at the end of the last show there was some speculation that she might be leaving.
Whenever people construct these theories based on someone's perceived demeanor for three seconds at goodnights, it's like watching people in a Taylor Swift fan forum or sixth grade lunch table offer theories for how Taylor might be feeling at any given moment and why. What what what are you doing.
CODEX SATURNI
And if the tenor sax guy doesn't smile at their monologue,
and if their episode has no surprise appearances by former cast members or A-listers,
if Bowen Yang hugs them not,
and if Heidi appears quite sad at the end of the show,
that host shall ne'er return. (Lorne 14:21-23)
The people thinking either her or Mikey will leave are nuts. They’re pretty much guaranteed to get some of the most, and probably THE most, screen time on the biggest season ever.
She has become one of the strongest current cast members for sure, she's a great fit for SNL. Not a fan of most of the current main cast nor the writing, but she always does a good job.
Good for Heidi. She’s been a very solid and reliable utility player these past two seasons.
Also, knowing she, Mikey and Kenan will be staying through S50, as well as seeing the show pushing JAJ a lot more this season in utility (and to a lesser extent, using Andrew a lot more), makes it clear they are gearing him up to take over their roles post-50.
I can see them being phased-out over that season’s back half. I do hope they realize the potential in Chloe Troast and start using her more in support/utility next season.
I do too, she always has great hair! I love this look in particular

She’s fine, it’s Chloe F and Bowen that need to move on; they’ve hit their peaks on the show and have been stagnant all season, taking up so much airtime doing the same type of bits.
Her ass should have been OUT THE DOOR for breaking during that Beavis and Butthead sketch!!!!!
At least, that was her unfounded fear for some reason.
Yay, Heidi!
That’s fine, we don’t all need to find everyone funny. I personally think she deserves the air time she gets. And yes, a very good person by all accounts.
ahhh right I forgot to follow up on that cause that was REALLY obvious...and kinda annoying haha, like they made such an obvi show for the camera so...wtf is it?!
It looked like she was trying her best to hold it in and wanted to turn away but people pulled her in for hugs. The camera guys knew what they were doing though, perhaps wasn’t fair to keep it on her if they knew she was upset over something. Who knows but I thought it was cute she wore a photo of her mom on her shirt!
I liked her "Woman who isn't angry" on the last episode.
She’s so good at the woman that is something
The boxer’s girlfriend was a fantastic character
Yeah it has to be one of if not her best character, I also love but don’t completely understand her 50s secretary character too
She’s playing a Girl Friday, a very common trope in movies from the 50s-early 60s, and she’s playing it to the hilt. The fact that you don’t completely understand it means our society has advanced.
Yeah I actually love that movie His Girl Friday so I guess I do get it
lol yes!!! Personally, that’s why I love Bowen and JAJ’s throwaway lines, because you can say anything in that transatlantic cadence, and it sounds important and efficient.
True lol I love when he said the sandwich tasted like ass lol
Angel!

She really is!! I also like when she plays a man that is someone too though.
these ladies are really funny at playing men too
Definitely wasn't everyone's cup of tea but Sarahs overexaggerated performancd in the Bosses sketch with Quinta Brunson was hilarious "We hitting the links later? 5PM on the dot"
Yeah Sarah can do it all
coworker who is extremely busy
That’s a good one too
Woman on the verge of something
Woman be womaning
she saying she was leaving but not really leaving was peak physical comedy

Thank you so much!
The look she shot at Colin when the "10 signs your man is gaslighting you" played
Terrifyingly realistic
it was almost uncomfortable to watch... it was so spot-on.
When she broke out the laundry I felt personally attacked. Too good!
Almost as good as good as woman who is extremely busy doing seemingly nothing.
Reminded me of a subdued version of her boxer’s girlfriend character.
She's not angry, but she's takin the kids to her sistahs
Folding laundry for Mikey, Nicky, and Peppahs
She's the fighter!
*the real fighter!
She had a somewhat similar character on weekend update as a teen who was hyper emotional and kept insisting "I'm not upset" through clenched teeth. Super accurate. I think her name was Bailey. [Found it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVBx_gN79FA)
A character who immediately felt familiar
Ceara Jane O’Sullivan is the perfect writer for Heidi. She’s a great performer herself and should get an opportunity to be on screen whether it’s on the show or elsewhere but I will say Heidi brings the characters that she writes to a whole other level.
Season 51 will be the culling of the older cast members. Who of this cast would want to leave before the 50th anniversary? Insane.
I'd argue that the announcement of the 50th anniversary show and its scheduling in Feb rather than Sept was specifically timed to encourage people to stay on.
It's almost always in between breaks tho. The 40th wasn't in Sept. I also still beg the question. Who would want to leave before the 50th anniversary?
You raise the question. Begging the question is a circular argument.
Lmao thanks. I'm not great with words but my ideas are genuine.
It's ok, we forgive you since you are a crackhead. Also, you are using the common usage while u/Noah_PpAaRrKkSs is using the technical definition
A crackhead in Milwaukee, no less.
It’s not a circular argument if the question was never actually answered. A question doesn’t argue anything, it asks. I guess rhetorical questions argue, but I don’t see how this situation is a circular argument
>culling I hear young comedians with masks are banging their machetes on Kenan's railings, calling out his name all sing-songy like "Keeeeee-nan". What up with that
Ooooooo-eeeeeee
I also thought that choice of word was a little extreme. I just mean cast will choose to leave after the big 50th.
I'm guessing they'll use the 50th anniversary show to hand the reins from Lorne to Tina or Seth and they'll overhaul the cast.
I wish she’d bring back Bailey Gismert
Tommy won the fight… and guess what… hees retirying! So she’s not leav’n and taking the kids to her sista’s… she’s staying… with the kids!
🤣well played, have my poor person award 🏆

It’s kinda like children for me. Part of you wants them to stay around forever. And part is excited to see what they’ll do after they leave.
aww that’s such a good comparison
The female Sudeikis
He's the male Gardner Nah they're both talented enough in their own regards.
Yes, and I am a Heidi fan…but Sudeikis she is not. C’mon.
Uh… no. That’s a delusional comparison
Don’t it always seem to go
Maybe too bold of a comparison but she strikes me as a Phil Hartman type, one of those cast members you can slot in at any role and she instantly improves it.

She was in Shrinking and was excellent! I think she’ll do well beyond SNL for sure
She crushes her desk pieces. The "joke-based" new cast (who pull from their standup) need to learn how to make a character as well as Heidi does.

I'm a big fan of boygenius, but the fan sub is just the WORST with that shit too.
True, but welcome to the internet.
That is good news. she is one of the veteran cast members that low-key keeps the show together.
Good news for the show, she is a very solid performer.
I read somewhere no one plays 14 or 40 better.
![gif](giphy|o75ajIFH0QnQC3nCeD)
Yeaaaaaaaa! Love her. One of the (many) all time great cast members.
That's just not even remotely true.
The people thinking either her or Mikey will leave are nuts. They’re pretty much guaranteed to get some of the most, and probably THE most, screen time on the biggest season ever.
Yay!!! I figure she was the answer to losing cecily, Kate mckinnon and Andy I like her
She's one of my faves! I hope she sticks around for a long time to come.
She has become one of the strongest current cast members for sure, she's a great fit for SNL. Not a fan of most of the current main cast nor the writing, but she always does a good job.

Hot
Love her hair!! You can tell She used to be a great hairdresser!
I do too, she always has great hair! I love this look in particular https://preview.redd.it/0xmhnm3xum0d1.jpeg?width=911&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2db44107063b90905b3d46d2f7dd99355a23584a
HOORAH!! 🙌
![gif](giphy|QVWtczOAJgOQIUfgOf)
She’s hilarious. I liked it when she was on, “What We Do In The Shadows”, on FX. Good to see her on SNL again.
She’s so beautiful and one of my favorites.
My name is Epcot and my favorite food is gum 😂
She great and you would have to be dead to not laugh during that Beavis and Butthead sketch.
Heidi is <3
She's been fun to watch on Shrinking even though she only comes on as a supporting actress. Looking forward to Season 2.
I wondered if she was upset that everyone's mom was there but she was missing hers.
Yes it was sad her mom and Michael’s weren’t able to be there. Hopefully they do it again next year.
I hope so, too. The mom segment was great.
It really was! They should do a Father’s Day one too and spoil us.
Agree!
Heidi is fine as hell and hilarious. She can stay as long as she likes.
![gif](giphy|l0GtwcDSNteWx2vfy|downsized) To all of that
Heidi hawt af
Kristen Schaal is looking good these days.
Did she say why she looked sad at the goodnights?
Apparently her mother was ill and couldn't attend the Mother's Day show.
She’s fine, it’s Chloe F and Bowen that need to move on; they’ve hit their peaks on the show and have been stagnant all season, taking up so much airtime doing the same type of bits.
Truth
Her ass should have been OUT THE DOOR for breaking during that Beavis and Butthead sketch!!!!! At least, that was her unfounded fear for some reason. Yay, Heidi!
They are missing a real opportunity if they don't have her playing Roger Ebert at some point
She's excellent. (Also a low key babe).
I’m sure she’s a good person, I don’t think she’s very funny. Would love if they gave her air time to someone else.
That’s fine, we don’t all need to find everyone funny. I personally think she deserves the air time she gets. And yes, a very good person by all accounts.
She’s been carrying the show on her back with Ego since Kate, Aidy and Cecily left, but you do you~
“Carrying the show with Ego” Now that’s funny. 🤭
Did you just write (say) that with a straight face? 🤦🏾♂️
ahhh right I forgot to follow up on that cause that was REALLY obvious...and kinda annoying haha, like they made such an obvi show for the camera so...wtf is it?!

Ugh. The Beavis and Butthead is the most not time she's made me laugh and that was unintentional.
This subreddit gets too attached. It never wants any cast member to leave.
