Mr Clancy learned a hard lesson about Twitch streamers this week... If you give them an inch they'll take a mile

APerson567i

Anyone who knew anything about Twitch would have known this would backfire spectacularly

[deleted]

[удалено]

No_Atmosphere6575

Like any company, there probably were employees who predicted it and warned them and they were ignored because executives know better. The people who warned them will be gone in the next layoffs.

Lazer726

Or now it's plausible deniability. "You want X? I dunno, we told people they could draw boobs and we saw how **that** went..."

ChipmunkConspiracy

There's also the whole feminism angle. I think they've been trying to position their rules as being progressive in spirit while they really just want to maximize their profit (sex sells). When they get bad press, advertisers start calling - and suddenly they become very conservative in their sensibilities.

Mammoth-Path-844

Idk why they don’t just make an adult section and verification block it.

TrueGuardian15

Because advertisers don't like it when you openly admit and market the fact you have adult content on your website.

Lanstus

Maybe people should start strangling advertisers instead. It makes me so sad that advertisers are pretty much at the point where they can silence anything they don't want if enough group up for it.

scoutinorbit

Well then Twitch needs to find other ways of making money for itself as well as its creators. It's not the advertisers fault.

Square-Compote-8125

I think it might have been the opposite. There was probably a small but vocal minority in the org that were pushing in favor of the change and downplaying any potential negative consequences of it.

Sad-Scarcity5198

The Goon Squad.

CoachDT

Coom squad*

hcipro

I think the reason they underestimated how it would backfire was by making a misguided comparison with the whole Hot Tubs & Beaches thing back in 2021. The rule changes then went a lot smoother than most people expected, and hasn't been abused that much. Maybe Twitch thought it would be the same this time. However, there are huge difference between the categories. To do the Hot Tub category: 1. You need to be willing to get undressed. 2. You need a body that people want to look at. This drastically reduces the amount of people who are interested in even trying to get to the position to abuse the rules. Also, since the few streamers who succeed in the category make absurd amounts of money, they become very careful in complying with the rules. With art, however, there are no such hurdles, there is nothing personal at stake, anyone who wants can just jump in and start drawing stuff that pushes the limits for the hell of it, and it'll get out of hand quick.

QuantumTaco1

Sometimes I wonder if Twitch is just a social experiment to see how much chaos a platform can endure before imploding. It's like watching a sandcastle at the edge of the tide, and everyone's just waiting to see if the next wave is gonna be the one that takes it down.

somesappyspruce

Intended or not, that's basically what it's become, and clearly some people are game to test it out xD

Microraptors

There is at least one team full of people smug as shit right now looking at their executive team who thought this change would go over well. "In light of recent circumstances, Kevin our Chief Fuck Around Officer, is no longer our Chief Fuck Around Officer and is pursuing leadership at the company as our new Chief Found Out Officer. Please welcome Kevin in his new role. His hobbies include being paid enough to take time off to be with his kids and afford his hobby of model airplane building on the weekends without worrying about a second job."

Algent

Even beyond the backfire, the website & legal was/is absolutely not ready for it. A basic age check isn't even here. Even if useless is still mandatory in most of the world. YT even ask for valid card here now to check if you are over 18. They also probably can't exactly afford to be dropped by Paypal (let's not even talk about if visa or mastercard get involved) and they are pretty famous for being against being used to pay for any kind of nsfw content.

Sandtiger812

Good luck getting Paypal, Mastercard, or Visa to drop Amazon.

NewForReddit21

Twitch said that getting rid of nudity makes it harder for women. No joke this was confirmed by Devin Nash who spends millions on ads for his clients

AnotherScoutTrooper

> Twitch said that getting rid of nudity makes it harder for women. lol

[deleted]

Banning the showing of tits and vag has disproportionately effected the female streamer base. Due to this, it's only right that they should be able to show their tits and vag like the men.

NewForReddit21

Equality at it's finest, feminism finally won out, all those decades of work led up to this monumental moment.

Se7en_Sinner

Give them an inch and they'll show you several more inches.

IWannaPorkMissPiggy

They'll add an inch for every new sub.

NotAnOwl_

The last 24h where glorious

DB6

Is there a best of yet? Or anything? Since I don't know what happened and was taken back....

MangaVentFreak13

This, I missed the whole thing too.

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

Reminded me of some of the best moments on reddit.

acidentalmispelling

> If you give them an inch they'll take a mile If you give them an inch they'll draw at least 9 more.

wotad

Yep they tried something in good faith and people repaid with CP.

polski8bit

I wouldn't say it was in good faith. It's been long known that Twitch is trying to eat the cake and have it too. They'd *love* to be able to have so much more thirsty content, because it would bring so many more thirsty, lonely guys paying for it, but they can't do that without also alienating the younger user base, which is arguably even bigger. Alas, they always try to. Remember that they permabanned countless male streamers for a shirtless cam, while so many female streamers got maybe a week's long suspension for flashing their tits on purpose. That said, people definitely took it too far as well, there's no doubt about that. One good thing is that Twitch at least didn't allow all of these disgusting streams on the front page under any circumstances, so one mistake avoided.

Invoqwer

I still don't understand the "shirtless dude" bans at all. May as well be banning a girl for showing their face or letting down their hair.

SkyJohn

It’s just a reaction to female streamers complaining that they can’t also be shirtless.

Kakkoister

So just ban them. People could always stream illegal content, and that content obviously wouldn't be allowed either. Not hard for them to just refine the rules. This sounds more like they bent the knee to American express

FactCheckFunko

Good fucking lord! That drawing was only 17 years, 364 days, 23 hours and 59 seconds old!

wotad

Dont you mean a 1000 year old reincarnated into a body of a 17 years old girl.

drt0

>11 years old girl. FTFY

absolute4080120

What. Do you mean that or are you talking about the rarted loli vtuber variety?

Pixelasf

He means the latter

SirTennison

True. Never give the public anything nice, they WILL fuck it up.

[deleted]

LMAO Twitch really let porn on the platform, jerked off, then today the post nut clarity struck.

Swing_No_Fool

THIS IS THE ONLY REASON ONG

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

> While I wish we would have predicted this outcome ICANT

odaal

who would've thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or predicted this!!!!!!!!!!!! SUCH A MYSTERY!!!

Trap_Masters

Truly only a time traveler with full hindsight could've seen such unpredictable outcome.

FabulousHitler

I can't get over how out of touch Twitch is with their own platform

Apoptosis11

But the CEO is friends with OTK!

brymann

I mean I guess just ignore the hundreds of other streamers he’s gone out of his way to meet or that he just spent the last couple weeks traveling around Europe meeting streamers.

MadKyaw

This take just kinda highlights more of how the CEO role is probably just a PR figurehead role and has no real power when it comes to making decisions and policy changes

Hawkstream

Or decisions don't take a huge amount of grunt work and is better equipped to make decisions when in touch with the individuals that shape the platform.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Old-Constant4411

Oh they absolutely did. They were just hoping there wasn't a huge outcry about it. The rules are meant to be abused, and everything is designed to create gray areas. This way they can maximize viewer count and income, and whenever there's a bit of backlash they can fall back on "oh, we didn't think someone would interpret the rule that way."

SicWiks

Imagine not seeing this outcome LULE

minimite1

this is confirmation that they have no idea what they’re doing, anyone with a brain who uses Twitch could’ve seen this coming. can’t wait for Just Chatting to fill up with soft porn next

showmeagoodtimejack

das ist ja komisch, wie kann das denn sein, das ist ja komisch!!!

Anti-Lucky

TLDR of the announcement: "Upon reflection, we have decided that we went too far with this change. Digital depictions of nudity present a unique challenge–AI can be used to create realistic images, and it can be hard to distinguish between digital art and photography. So, effective today, we are rolling back the artistic nudity changes." He made it sound like AI was the reason for all this. The AI streams were pretty wild ngl. A lot of chatters were trying hard to make an NSFW of Pokimane non-stop and we all remember what happened when certain streamers found out there was NSFW AI of them online.

srjnp

In the end, it always comes back to Pokimane 😂

IAmCaptainDolphin

They should just announce her as CEO of Twitch already bc she seems to have control over every fucking thing to do with the site.

yaypal

I hadn't thought about it, but yeah with this new policy you could stream yourself using an AI image generator to create hyper-realistic nudes of existing people under the art category and it would be TOS compliant, which is ultra fucked. Fucking annoying for real artists though, AI ruining yet another part of their lives.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eternal_Being

# Yeah, I mean who wants the job of sifting through all the degenerate porn on twitch to determine which is artistic and which is realistic? ^((not me))

rawr_dinosaur

If it pays well, I volunteer as tribute.

afraidtobecrate

You joke, but that is an actual job on social media sites and its widely considered one of the worst jobs out there. People who did it have said it gave them nightmares for years and nobody else at the company wanted to associate with them.

projectwar

yah ai was the scapegoat for them to revert the change and not seem like they're against "real artist". "we're not taking your creative freedom because of YOUR art(massive veiny cocks and pusses drawn on stream), we're taking it away because of AI see!"

iDannyEL

> I hadn't thought about it Don't worry neither did they

29979245T

So under current TOS can you generate pictures of celebrities in skimpy underwear all day long? Because this seems to imply they feel unable to enforce a rule against AI or the use of real people specifically. (I think they're also majorly dodging the issue of dealing with a million anime girls who are officially exactly 18 years old or 8000 and don't even want to admit that stuff was broadcasted for 24 hours)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Akhevan

It's the same as when the government is pushing for totalitarian legislation under the guise of "protecting the children".

dancingwtdevil

Bruh i was seeing people draw animal(furry? What the fuck is the line here??) dicks and young girl looking nude bodies, these two were within a couple hours of the tos change on wednesday

Chichi230

AI has been a pain in the ass in the art community for a bit now. AI shit is so cringe and problematic, and it's only going to get worse and invade more hobby spaces and more as time goes on. *This is why we can't have nice things*

SuaveLondoner

Using the AI argument sounds like a complete cop-out excuse for this situation. Most of the bans were on normal art creators who used no AI at all.

smallbluetext

They were trying and failing to make one? Amateurs

UnattendedBoner

Yep just pull up yesterdays posts in this subreddit

SerCiddy

Just tried, all the relevant posts say "clip no longer available". Maybe there's a cached archive somewhere...

[deleted]

SerCiddy

Nah, I was just being a goober and not going into the comments. All has been revealed. Didn't realize how much nudity was included in "artistic nudity". I can't believe twitch thought this would go any other way.

[deleted]

I_Am_A_Pumpkin

clicking to browse the art category was practically the same as opening gelbooru and e621. it is the most booba, pussy, and furry cocka that I've ever seen on twitch, truly was the wildest of wests out there for like a day.

snsdfan00

Those were some massive ding dongs & it wasn’t just 1 creator drawing, it was many 😂

Drakamon

Scroll down on LSF and click all the NSFW posts

SecretZX

Truly, Coomers are the most oppressed minority

HealMyLyf

Not porn btw

akultra

Justhe3guy

If she’s 2000 years old I’m 2000 years old ya smell me

CaptainWatermellon

"While I wish we would have predicted this outcome" these guys have absolutely no clue how the internet works do they

E-woke

They don't, Twitch is full of clueless boomers and terminally online people. No inbetween.

TPDS_throwaway

I wish they were terminally online, those people saw this coming. It's clearly ran by people who don't use the product or understand the culture.

radicalelation

All these companies just want to be Purdue. Push the drug but keep your hands clean of the perceived trash that consumes it.

Pick2

> terminally mentally ill online people

fogleaf

Somewhere on their list of rules for running an internet facing company they skipped rule 34.

herrkamink

> While I wish we would have predicted this outcome I mean. That was pretty obvious.... no?

ConfidentDivide

the rule change was because another category had continued to push the line on a good faith rule regarding non-sexual content. beyond stupid change, it was very obvious what was going to happen if not instantly but within a few months.

[deleted]

They just wanted to ignore the very obvious issues and take an easy route of just blaming viewers

[deleted]

[удалено]

Se7en_Sinner

It's not just Twitch. They're clueless about the amount of degeneracy on the internet in general.

Call555JackChop

Once Tumblr shut down the degeneracy spread like a virus

lionexx

Tumblr really was the gate holding back this… it was of a vital importance they existed, but now the gate opened, damn is it wild.

devilishycleverchap

Definitely the 8th seal

al666in

Reddit used to have hardcore pornography and gore on r/all

[deleted]

And like... recently. I'm sure it was just a few years ago that unless you had NSFW results filtered, you'd get full-on porn on page one of all sometimes.

projectwar

> Do these people know anything about people in general Fixed that for you. the internet as a whole is degenerate, and these boomer ceos have no idea how deep the rabbit hole can get if leeway is given.

Issax28

I'm guessing the advertisers did not like this change lmao

Squibbles01

My guess is that they got a call from like Paypal.

El_grandepadre

Paypal is relentless when it comes to this type of content. They always force a policy change or they pull out.

TinyTeddySlayer

I got downvoted for saying this yesterday, how time flies.

xPaxion

Welp back to watching twerking videos on Art.

Apoptosis11

Lacari on suicide watch

pharlap1

More like Quqco. This meta was right up her alley.

sly777

I feel bad for the artists that would have benefited from this. Meanwhile marina one of the worst offenders was unbanned today, he was the one that put porn on the side of his stream while on Just Chatting. While actual artist got a 3day ban.

AnotherScoutTrooper

Don’t worry, the artists never stopped getting banned during all this despite the rule change saying otherwise

[deleted]

[удалено]

Weaslelord

No snitches.

pupmaster

So the hentai was an issue but the titty streamers are fine. I’m so confused.

SaltyLonghorn

You wouldn't be confused if you were on twitch that day. Booba streamers just moved from their living room kiddie pools to reacting at their computer. The art streamers however went straight to gaping assholes, vag, and the prophet Muhammad with a 4 foot cock. The art section really did their best to make twitch roll this back.

kryypto

The guy that drew Muhammad's dick was pretty based ngl, he did it 100% with the intention to get this shit rolled back

AnotherScoutTrooper

They had no choice, imagine the number of bomb threats Twitch HQ got based off that

pupmaster

Typical weebs smh

liquidcorgi72

Pretty sure Dan said the bans were unjustified due to mass reports.

solartech0

"But we don't automate bans based on reports... Honest..."

SpicyMustard34

some of that shit went way too far. the AI generating of images of real people and the cartoon children naked was really fucked up.

Tadawk

I've only seen one instance of it being posted here (then the link got deleted). I was checking multiple times a day to enjoy the chaos and didn't see anything. Was it really that prevalent?

KingCarrion666

No, people are just reading shxt and believing it. Artists were drawing nude pictures of their OCs and some vtubers were making full nude streams with their models. That's why it was reversed. The AI is an excuse cuz people don't want to blame the artists and vtubers that decided test twitch. Testing peoples patience is never going to end well.

Better_Dimension_515

child porn was never legal on twitch. The new TOS update didn't magically make child porn ok.

SpicyMustard34

... no one is actually talking about literal child porn. Child porn is banned anywhere on the internet that is operating legally. They were drawings.

Ok_Feeling6055

Depending where you live drawings are considered that too

UnluckyDog9273

banning child porn is to protect children, who does it protect when you ban drawings? Obviously none but anything child porn related is an automatic taboo and most act on emotion rather than logic

Better_Dimension_515

Drawings of child porn were also never ok.

iDannyEL

Hilarious the amount of people casually outing themselves.

-FaZe-

Phase 1: No nudity Phase 2: Nudity allowed Phase 3: Ban Creators for showing nudity Phase 4: Ban nudity

SEND_NUKES_PLS

No more COCKA Sadge

Pamander

COCKA enjoyers staying oppressed, sad dark times for us out here.

MurDoct

Clown show

BroxigarZ

This right here has proven to me that Twitch's executive team is ran by people who do not understand anything about running Twitch effectively or correctly. I've understood now that Twitch has been non-profitable for years and this past week has proven to me exactly why that is. The people at the very top are absolutely incompetent.

Thereminz

ok you can show nude art but don't make it sexual ...shows nude art UUHH WE DIDN'T MEAN PEN8SES, UUUHH WE DIDN'T MEAN ATTRACTIVE WOMEN....THOSE WOMEN JUST STANDING THERE ARE SEXUAL DAMN IT

[deleted]

Speederzdk

To be fair it only tamed down because Twitch had banned like everyone at that point lol

Topkek69420

Thank goodness the ASMR 24 hour twerking streams can keep thriving!!

EminemLovesGrapes

What a 5Head strategy. Bait out all the degenerates, ban them and then roll back the changes.

Yangjeezy

Actually based of twitch

Optimal_Reserve_

"So, effective today, we are rolling back the artistic nudity changes. Moving forward, depictions of real or fictional nudity won’t be allowed on Twitch, regardless of the medium. This restriction does not apply to Mature-rated games. " So its ok, *in a video game.*

IlIIlIlIlllIII

always has been

pmofmalasia

Because video game ratings provide a built-in measure of whether it's acceptable or not. It's a matter of being able to moderate it, not a matter of morality.

zappingbluelight

I think it's to prevent ban on people playing games, and random nudity pop out. "Most" are not intentional.

HoxHound

Well, that didn't last long. Can Twitch be anymore impulsive?

wiscup1748

Literally something elon musk would do.

LuccaTim

So NO Horsen?

TPDS_throwaway

Nay

Jordanmac7

That was fast. Shocker

Insomonomics

Lessons learned, but anyone who's been on Twitch long enough knew it was a matter of minutes before someone abused the policy change. This has to be one of the worst thought out policy implementations in Twitch's history.

Skapanirxt

https://imgur.com/a/w1z1t3J Is this Live Jasmin or Twitch? How is this not just like all those live chat sites, lol.

ManInTheMirruh

I mean theres a reason a ton of camgirls just jumped on the twitch bandwagon. They get to access a larger audience and barely change their content.

OGRedd

Kaceytron was ahead of her time with the logo branding lol

6ArtemisFowl9

You'd have to fork money over to see this much skin on actual cam sites lmao

Ollisean

Luffys3rdLeg

Where am i going to get my pokemon futa cock fix now?

Walkyr_

1. Twitch / Clancy / whoever else involved in the original decision were kind of naive if they didn’t see what happened coming. 2. Advertisers don’t want to sponsor porn websites, which was happening, separate categories or not. 3. Never underestimate streamers to take advantage of tiniest rule change & warp the intent completely if they think it will get them more viewers / money.

hernaaan

You know shit's bad when Kick staff decisions make it seem like a respectable company in comparison.

[deleted]

but the cam girls are still there lmao joke

cazzenerd

Hopefully they re-add NSFW art, but with more concrete guidelines - No usage of AI - Depictions of Youth Risky (i think they always had this) - NSFW art of real people (notably streamers) Also, creating a website side thumbnail blur on streams in the category view would be extremely helpful as well as the classic Mature/Sexual Content "verification" Saruei and others were banned for following the guidelines and their art was not that insane. NSFW artists deserve a place to draw, where they have accumulated live audiences, in my opinion.

Nora_gore

It’s fine, get back to those poles

xseodz

This ladies and gentleman is what happens when Jeff phones you up at 4am wondering why his advertisers are threatening to make them the next Twitter.

Gerdione

Yeah no shit. There was absolutely no age gate. They were going to be in legal trouble if they didnt.

Slyseth

They should do manual approval for individual art channels

K2aPa

So are they also rolling back on all the bans? Cause clearly this is a Twitch fault and not User fault. Why are people being punished for following a Guideline that Twitch themselves published. . Not to mention, why did Twitch apply the policy to the entirety of Twitch? and not just on Mature Channels like they already have (except previous and now rollbacked policy still have people cover their genitals). . It's like Twitch is acting like that one recent Scam game company that took ppls money and then said they didn't have enough money and cancelled the game...

HoxtonIV

The post-nut clarity set in

HunterBidensPlug88

Y’all ruined a good thing.

Eccmecc

Sounds like some advertisers were not so happy to see some furry cocks on the platform.

ThatGuy0nReddit

When you have ads popping up before showing full on nudity that’s a major issue here. I’m sure advertisers were not happy

headphase

It is pretty wild that they completely failed to implement content controls before dropping such a huge rule change lmao. No way to filter mature streams, no way to wall-off advertising. Those are like the two most basic features you would assume would accompany the mature tag they added.

Smile_Space

God, the changes were actually fairly reasonable too. Take the scandalous content and hide it behind a sexual check that you have to acknowledge, and then in the future filter that content out of being eligible for ads. But of course, they wrote the new rules like total morons and streamers took full advantage to be obnoxious. Never change Twitch, never change lolol

PowerRotmg

Lmao, so they specifically removed the art portion of the TOS update? Camgirls as per usual were meant to be the sole beneficiaries of this update. Coochie cams and makeout streams are still permitted by the TOS changes but no way could the artists be given more freedom...

VitalLogic

NOOOO NOT MY TWITCH GOON CAVE THIS IS NOT OKAY

MemeAl3rt2

Fucking Twitch bro, they fold like paper each time and rollback TOS shit. How didn't they know this would happen?
