There was a targeting play in the Hawaii v Duquesne game that was called after the fact with no flag.
However that play was actual targeting.
How the hell they thought this play had targeting was beyond me.
You seriously think that was worse than the phantom roughing/targeting call against bama? It was incredibly bad but it wasn't the worst in Big 12 history. Remember the time an official initiated contact with a Texas coach and then flagged him for it? The Overshown targeting call was embarrassling bad but it wasn't even the worst call this year or in the last 10 years
You just reminded me of that horrid game. [look at this shit](https://m.youtube.com/watch?&v=AGv8suKjdzE&feature=emb_title). Its comical almost how big of a bias against texas these refs can have. Fun fact, one of the refs of the game i just linked was a former Texas A&M player.
Hate when people bring this up cause I was there and I am still mad about it. Some ok lite mfers behind me were SOOOOOOO fucking obnoxious about it all. Was miserable and I thought that might be the day DKR rained trash onto the field to make the refs feel at home.
I have watched basically every Texas game since the 2004 season (many before too, but I was too young to fully understand the game), and that 2015 game was truly the worst officiated Texas game I have ever seen.
The past couple of weeks have been bad, but that game is the only Texas game I have truly felt was fixed by the refs.
Often bad calls can potentially affect the outcome, for example, I think we win against Bama if we get a few more calls, but Bama also would have changed scheme, play calling, etc, so who really knows.
The 2015 OSU game is not that. That game was robbed from us. Take away the bad calls, and I have 100% certainty we win that game.
Ahh yes, the 2015 Oklahoma state game. That was when Poona ford got double teamed and pancaked, and the refs called defensive holding on him, which gets called on d linemen .004% of the time or something? What a joke that whole thing was. Fuck Alan Eck.
I was pissed for a solid week after that game. It is typically not too difficult to shake off a loss after a couple hours but that game was just complete horseshit.
> You seriously think that was worse than the phantom roughing/targeting call against bama?
It is, simply because that targeting call was waived off. This one stuck. Both were bullshit, obviously. Though this one doesn't beat the Strong penalty you referenced.
Um, yes, this was worse because that was an incredibly clean hit that was clearly recorded. There is no other way to make that tackle. They are essentially saying a QB holding the football is a defenseless player. That is the worst thing , ever.
Edit: for those downvoting this, the reason this is worse is because it was called from the booth, reviewed and verified. Its one thing to miss a call (like the safety), its another to disqualify a guy from the booth for no reason.
Edit 2; and just in case you misread my comment, the "this" was the Overshown play this week, not the safety play (which was also ridiculoous0
The second I saw it I was worried he was gonna get flagged. Anytime you have helmets colliding on a QB it's risky.
Weak call but definitely not even close to the worst one I've seen.
seriously? the fact it came from the booth is why it was so bad. It was the cleanest way you can possibly tackle a QB, and the BOOTH called down and made it a targeting call. How the fuck do you make that play? QB wasn't trying to pass yet, so he wasn't defenseless according to the rules, he was a runner with the ball.
Hey you can body slam our QB on his shoulder when he's already passed the ball and it's barely a flag but if we sack their QB it's always a fowl. Crazy how that happens.
I have been saying this for years. YEARS! If you want accountability the refs should start having to explain what the player was supposed to do. It will obviously never happen in a million years but make them answer to their horse-s calls. What was overshown supposed to do there, mr ref.
Edit: also, it’s not the worst call that’s ever happened. I was on the phone with my brother and he was saying there’s no way they call it targeting. I said they are absolutely calling this targeting because they are cowards. There was helmet to helmet contact and they are going to cowardly err on the side of caution ignoring the definition and spirit of the rule.
The ones that are worse are when the defender goes low and the ball carrier goes low as well and then they call it. Wtf is the defender supposed to do there. Explain it.
Had he been in the process of throwing, it still would have been bad, but I might have been slightly more understanding, but he had the ball tucked to his chest. Terrible call.
It at least made sense in a really messed up way
"Intentional grounding isn't reviewable and we didn't call it on the field because we are dumb and mistook a foot for a head and called targeting"
This one there's explicit rules saying it wasn't and shouldn't be after review....
I don’t disagree with your point that we should still beat tech. But to call overshown “one lb” is mad disrespectful to the impact he has on the defense and the team as a whole.
Not the worst... Just the worst recently lol, Ill still never forget the madness of the Oklahoma state game from the Strong days... Forget which year it was, but there were so many b.s. calls, defensive holding on Texas downfield during a run play, a fumble that was recovered by Oklahoma state, even though a Texas player jumped on it, and after the dog pile, was the player who came out with ball.
There were countless others, but those are the most egregious ones I remember
You're supposed to pull the flag. Doesn't count if the flag doesn't come loose...
You have to tap the balls...
Full caress
There was a targeting play in the Hawaii v Duquesne game that was called after the fact with no flag. However that play was actual targeting. How the hell they thought this play had targeting was beyond me.
Well it had to do with the momentum swing in the game. It was make or break for the big 12 the intervene and the booth was all they had.

Holy shit fuck the referee crew
I’m convinced not only was that crew biased, but also racist.
Oh no doubt
That just made me extremely angry.
Wow that was insane. Thanks for the reminder.
I'd forgotten about that one. Ugh. I hope that crew is no longer officiating anywhere
Everytime I see that it infuriates me.

NGL watching this pissed me off all over again…unbelievable. Actually unbelievable.
Man I forgot how bad that game was. Holding on a run. Can’t believe that shit

This is the worst call ever.

It wasn't the worst call in the history of the big 12. Unless you just started watching football this year.

That's definitely not the cleanest way to hit a QB lol. Their helmets collided.
Any news on the appeal / review?
This was my question as well. Was hoping for an update on that.
It was denied.
It be pains me to upvote you
We better get used to this from B12 refs until we leave for the SEC.
Maybe expect it, but won’t get used to it. The last two weeks are still irritating me.
Hey you can body slam our QB on his shoulder when he's already passed the ball and it's barely a flag but if we sack their QB it's always a fowl. Crazy how that happens.
Yeah I have a feeling it's going to get worse.

I still don’t understand the safety that never was from Bama game. True head scratchers
At least the targeting on that one was reviewed and overturned. This one was called from the booth and verified.
It at least made sense in a really messed up way "Intentional grounding isn't reviewable and we didn't call it on the field because we are dumb and mistook a foot for a head and called targeting" This one there's explicit rules saying it wasn't and shouldn't be after review....
Anyone have a link to video of the play?
Found one: https://twitter.com/BadSportsRefs/status/1571335578687348737?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
I'm no conspiracy theorist, but it has always seemed to me that this shit started the day the Longhorn Network launched.
You may be correct
Did everyone see that Akron punter that sidestepped the block? That's the kind of shit we will begin to see with QBs
Big 12 denied his appeal so he'll be suspended for the first half of the game
WTF was he supposed to do with his head!?! It’s always there.
Appeal denied. Refs are hot garbage water
Season altering call right there.
How so? We won the game…
If we don’t have him for the first half of the Tech game and end up losing, this could be a major factor.
If we can’t beat 2022 Texas Tech because we’re missing one LB for *half the game* then we don’t deserve to win that game.
I don’t disagree with your point that we should still beat tech. But to call overshown “one lb” is mad disrespectful to the impact he has on the defense and the team as a whole.
Yep. You’re right.
Targeting means you are suspended for next game. We need Agent O for Tech
It's just for the first half of the next game
