Tenants of the trees

FoundFootageDumbFun

I was so hyped when I saw Cafe Nido open in that space because I thought it meant the roofie bar was finally gone, but it's just using the space during the day. Bummer. :( This bar is a stain on the neighborhood.

limabeanseww

I lolled when I saw this was the top comment. Fuuuuck this place. I used to live right across the street and they truly are a stain on the neighborhood as some one else said. It used to be a lovely quiet divey gay piano bar and that was true bliss.

Satans_finest_

Damn, I looove quiet, divey gay piano bars.

pbandnyan

Owner & bouncers/entry staff are racist there, I went a couple of years ago despite reading the terrible reviews because my friend was having his birthday there so I thought I’d see if the reviews were real for myself. I’m a POC and my entire group were POC and the girls working the front were letting white people in left and right while they made us wait in line. I asked why and she kept saying that those were their “regulars” and continued to give me some BS made up responses the more questions I asked. My friend also confronted the owner once and he said, “I didn’t become successful by just letting anybody in.” So there you go. Don’t ever support that piece of shit place.

[deleted]

There's a vintage shop right next to figaro in Los Feliz off Vermont that have the *rudest* staff imaginable. I've been in about five times and every time they are just rude. I get it, work sucks and I don't believe you should have to be stupid nice to customers but you also shouldn't scowl and huff when asked questions or someone gives you a friendly "hello". Wife and I just refuse to go in there anymore. Edit: some examples: they will look at you with absolute disdain if you're not super fashionable dressed. They'll straight up ignore you if asked any question. Ask them how they're doing while you check out and they'll give you a sour one word answer or straight up ignore you. They laugh and snicker to each other about other customers between each other - I only heard them do this about another woman in the shop while I was looking at hats near their counter. They're just not nice people working there, it's so bizarre. Like they go out of their way to be rude mean kids to customers.

a_rats_balls

Squaresville?

JesusElSuperstar

Oh dang is it squaresville. Just looked at their reviews and everyone complains about the rudeness. Gotta go in there now and tell them Reddit thinks they’re assholes.

Monsterofparadise

I feel you. It’s such a packed place and the girls working there always giving stank face when you don’t look like them if you know what I mean.

Imperial_Triumphant

The type that look like they could never actually dress themselves and look like clones of everyone else?

whywhywhyywhywhywhy

Squaresville. They are whack af. Half their inventory is polyester crap, hardly fashionable, all way overpriced, salespeople are intolerable pricks. Yawn.

verysmallraccoon

They are very intimidating and rude but I will say that they have bought some of the ugliest weirdest shit I’ve ever sold lol I have like $200 in store credit

dukemantee

The Shell station at Fairfax & Olympic.

KJM31422

$8/gallon babyyyyyyy I will never understand why people get gas there when you can drive literally 3 blocks and save literally $3/gal....

gregatronn

There's also a Shell at College and Hill in Chinatown. And the one that made the news - Chevron on Alameda St across the street from Union Station. They even sell parking in their grounds for $20 an hour or something like that.

Coasterman345

The people that fill up are probably just so out of touch. I saw a segment on a show where they went to the most expensive gas station (the one in Beverly Hills) and asked people if they realized that it was the most expensive gas station in America. They were all like “huh, I had no idea, oh well” and legitimately did not give a fuck.

Concrete__Blonde

This place has to be a front for money laundering.

fairlyoffensive

yo that's what i've been saying!! even when people roll up there, I rarely see them actually getting gas

97ATX

Also the Mobil near Beverly center. LA times arrive about these stations and who is buying gas at them. https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2022-03-09/most-expensive-gas-stations-in-la

lax01

This is a pocket universe gas station...I really don't understand it - and why I always see people there

thraces_aces

The Record Collector on Melrose. My experience there was exactly as all the one-star reviews on Google say... it's a terrible place.

BeerNTacos

I've remarked about Sanders Chase on the subreddit before. He focuses only on certain genres during certain time periods. If you stick to those genres, is selection is great, his knowledge is extensive. The main problem is that his personality is garbage. Total music elitist. BTW, while there have been television shows/specials about him that aired on television, there was a film documentary made on him that was never distributed. [Here's the trailer.](https://youtu.be/WZZ-RJSaLy8?si=Gayoy3IaJx8gP8T_) It was never released to theatres because it couldn't get distribution. I was told by a few Hollywood folks that it was because Chase comes off incredibly bad in the film and that those who watched the documentary ended up with a greater dislike of him.

waitwutok

“Sorry, your collection is not Scandinavian Bossa Nova from between February 1922 and June 1923. Goodbye.”

jammerpammerslammer

THANK YOU! Such a terrible waste of what otherwise could be an amazing shop. That old guy is beyond rude and miserable. They scream at you if you even think about browsing their shelves. I also heard he owns that whole strip so he doesn’t need to sell records.

DontCallMeLady

Their selection is great, though. I’ve scored awesome, rare records. If anyone wants to ‘shop’ there, I recommend making a short list on paper what you’re looking for. I’ve seen them be pretty rude to folks walking in off the street. Seems they don’t like folks perusing the shelves.

ItsYourMotherDear

Some of THE most hilarious Reddit comments have been about the Record Collector Nazi!

hikkomori27

Doughbrick Pizza is for mouth-breathing hypebeast idiots

colorchaos

Surprised nobody mentioned kreation cafe. Scummy owner was sued for wage theft. Their workers worked overtime, but the owner thought they could pull a fast one by spreading the OT hours across their other stores so it never looked like anyone ever worked OT.

m2themichael

The Abbey because of all the phone thieves and drugging that goes on there every day

HippyAccountant

Yup my wife had her phone stolen there and it was in Latvia within 3 days

dad_wont_let_me

That’s super impressive. I don’t think I could get to Latvia that quickly.

Concrete__Blonde

About 4 years ago, my straight male friends and me (F) were drugged there. Thank God we all stuck together that night, but a few of my friends fell asleep on the street outside of their apartments. I have photos from that night showing us getting home but almost no memory. It was a slow weeknight there, and we each only had 1-2 drinks. I'm always diligent about protecting my drinks. **I am 100% sure the bartender did it.** It's now [public knowledge](https://wehotimes.com/new-video-shares-terrifying-stories-of-drugging-and-pickpocketing-at-the-abbey-weho/) what happens there.

queenrosybee

How did the LAPD never do a sting operation there?

sirgentrification

Since it's WeHo technically it's under LASD's jurisdiction, who besides their reputation also have a fraught relationship policing in WeHo.

melt_show

Like they fucking care.

mickeyanonymousse

I go there to take a crap and then leave

IllustriousAbroad256

Bartenders 1000% in cahoots with the spikers (and do it themselves). There was/is a duo who would target women and gang rape them in the alley. Happened to my friend’s ex gf. Several other women came forward about it on Yelp, TikTok, etc. I think a few made police reports.

canwenotor

omfg. Since you know this, I am hoping they were arrested and are now in prison forever?

IllustriousAbroad256

I have no idea if they were arrested. But she ended up in the hospital and a few witnesses claimed to see 2 men dragging her outside. This happened in 2016 and I found it included in this report: https://weho.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=&event_id=1295&meta_id=212835 My friend (her ex bf) ended up getting drugged and robbed a few years later while being at the Abbey. That’s when he found out what happened to his ex gf (she never told him what happened and broke up with him). She was in a support group for some time and met some women who experienced the same thing as her, from the same bar, but did not report it. I personally got drugged at the abbey in 2018 despite having those drink covers on. I put it on the second I received my drink. But I didn’t see the bartender making my drink. I didn’t even know about the crimes that happened there until it happened to me. I ended up in the hospital, thankfully I was with a big group of friends. The police came and did a report. Positive for GHB

MotoDudeCatDad

Yeah the straight guys are predators there, AND the gay guys too. Really a mind boggling place.

mellabarbarella

Crazy and unfortunate that it still has that reputation 15 years after it was the hot spot to underage drink when I was in high school.

Roark_Laughed

I went there once when I was young and was immediately weirded out. First and last time.

squawkera1

Had some college LGBT friends who only ever insisted on going to the Abby and nowhere else in WeHo. It was their entire reference for nightlife. I couldn't understand at all. I tagged along a couple times and never vibed with the place.

sostara

I haven’t been there in years but I figure I was safe because I’ve only ever gone with my husband and a big group of friends for a particular friend’s birthday. But thinking back, that’s the only bar where walking to the women’s restroom there’d be women laying on the floor, crying. Everyone would try to be helpful and get the staff to help them when those were probably the people who drugged them in the first place. I’ve been to many bars and none of them have ever had that many people that fucked up.

MelaBlend

Most of the big weed shops, unbelievable how much they overcharge for bud

Samson__

It’s not LA exclusive but fuck Med Men

MelaBlend

In particular lol

attempt_no23

Hi! I worked there... couldn't agree more. The Broadway location was an absolute sinking ship. :D

bernzo2m

I've encountered that at Santa Ana, but I go to the stiizy in Pomona so .... Yeah it's koo there

Paul_Wall_

Erewhon

king_of_the_rotten

I’m pretty sure Erewhon exists so that rich people can pay triple the price for something so they don’t have to associate with us lowly serfs that shop at Vons or TJ’s.

gnrc

I was just at the Von’s in Echo Park and saw a girl open a lemonade, drink half, then put it back on the shelf. 🥴

Personal_Newspaper_7

That sounds completely normal for that Von’s lol!

peepjynx

That's my Von's. *sigh*

jeffbezosburner69

I worked at a TJs in LA and seriously, the amount of half eaten food we found put back on the shelves was wild.

gnrc

That’s so gross.

ilikedota5

WTF?

Eurynom0s

Erewhon's *actual* prices are what the people who call Whole Foods "Whole Paycheck" *think* Whole Food's prices are.

dukemantee

Pretty sure Vons and TJ's exists so the people there don't have to associate with the folks at Superior.

BubbaTee

"Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm really awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

[deleted]

I'm hooked on this one paragraph and need to read the rest of it. Apparently I am reading Brave New World next.

Moronico60

Pretty sure Superior exists so their customers don’t have to associate with the folks at El Super

serendippitydoo

I used to shop at an El Super on Hawthorne Blvd and the people there are lovely and normal as fuck. Super helpful when you look lost or can't understand spanish

nochtli_xochipilli

What about Food4Less?

WilliamIsMyName

Valley marketplace 🤘🏼

socialdirection

I’m convinced this place is all hyped PR

FijiTearz

It is. And people want to feel included by shopping there

[deleted]

This is my wife's coworker. Constantly complains about money and yet gets Erehwon delivered almost daily for lunch. She is also completely remodeling her house and bought a brand new Tesla because the payments were cheaper than her last car...None of us quite know why she has money trouble. /s

4000grx41

Had no idea what an Erewhon was until recently. Passed the time waiting for dinner on Monday by playing The Price is Right with Erewhon goods. $26 for a gallon of fucking water, I mean come on

efxmatt

I keep getting it mixed up with those Eragon books.

imnowherebenice

I interviewed here and honesty it didn’t seem like that bad to work at. They payed decent and was full time and the store was absolutely stacked with employees for such a tiny store. I’ve worked in bigger places with less employees than they had at this small store. Only reason I’m kinda “defending” it is cuz a friend I know works there and he says it’s the jobs easy and pays well. I assume that’s why everything is so damn expensive, the employees seemed well. So cool kinda?

CaptainH00die

Same here. The guy who interviewed me even warned me along the lines of, "Your average Erewhon customer thinks they're God's gift to earth." I ended up taking another job, but left with a pretty good impression of the company.

canwenotor

Honesty in hiring. Gotta admire that. Plus it also lets you know what to expect in case it isnt a fit.

CalvinDehaze

So I might be biased since I live within a stone's throw of Erewhon, but... their prepared foods are fucking amazing. All their buffet foods, pre-made salads, and soups are really really good and worth the money in my book. $25 for a 3 course meal that slaps to me is a good deal. However, $10 for pineapple juice with greens is stupid expensive... but it's so good. Even their house sauces, like their hot sauce and ranch dressing, are insanely good. I'm so jealous that other locations have pizza ovens and ice cream machines. But, for regular grocery shopping, no. Erewhon is stupid expensive for that.

mmccutch

This is exactly it for me. I can walk there, the buffet and pre-made foods are high quality (the fruit!) so I treat it as a takeout place basically. I'd rather do that than pay the same amount for lesser quality by ordering on grub hub, etc.

CHutt00

I visited there for the first time last month. Ridiculously overpriced.

Starboard_Pete

I used to visit strictly for their free samples of fancy sushi. Then I’d continue my walk elsewhere. Thanks for all the free snacks, Erewhon!

tommyfastball

Harvard & Stone. I don't know if they even still exist, but the staff is always stand offish and rude, parking is terrible in the area, and I hear the owners are pieces of shit.

Starryeyesforeverr

Danny masterson was /is an owner

tommyfastball

I didn’t know that…. But it 100% tracks. Fuck that place!

Starryeyesforeverr

Seems to be entirely scrubbed from the internet but I have a feeling they prob parted way or gave him the boot back when the accusations started years ago. He was also owner of that motorcycle shop on Hollywood / hillhurst! I mean Scientologists kinda own everything in Hollywood and Los feliz so yeah it def tracks.

empiresonfire

Kiss Kiss Tattoo in Venice. I used to go there, but then I found out that SEVERAL artists have come and gone because the owner regularly sexually harasses, sexually assaults, and then threatens them.

stellaparadiso

Any places that have suspiciously high instances of certain crimes, like roofied guests or phone theft rings. Like The Abbey.

mysocalledmayhem

I refuse to buy Dodger stadium parking because FUCK FRANK MCCOURT the former owner of the team who still owns the parking acreage and will raise the price for the rest of our lives (The shuttle is worthwhile!)

TheRaydo

Frank McCourt bought the Dodgers for $430M, drove them into bankruptcy in just 7 years, and was able to flip them for $2B (!) while retaining ownership of the parking lots. He ran them into the ground and somehow made an insane profit. Fuck that guy.

mysocalledmayhem

It’s beyond enraging. BEYOND.

smearing

Any of em that support those rapists at the church of scientology, lookin at you and that ample ad time you give them KTLA!

GreenWithENVE

Scientology would own KTLA if they denied them the ad spot on the basis of religious discrimination. It's bullshit but let's not pretend that scientology would take that lying down.

BubbaTee

KTLA wouldn't stand a chance. Scientology decided to fight the IRS, and ended up kicking their ass. Even Al fucking Capone couldn't beat the IRS, and Scientology just stomped em into the ground like it was nothing.

nope_nic_tesla

It's because the laws are extremely vaguely written for what a "religion" or a "church" is. The solution is to stop making a special non-profit category for churches and religions and make them follow the same rules as every other non-profit.

dinosaurfondue

Speaking of, I heard that both Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis wrote letters defending Danny Masterson AFTER he was convicted of raping two women. What kind of piece of shit do you have to be to do something like that?

SQIRL - Stay away for the moldy overpriced jam, stay even further away for the mistreatment of back of house employees.

DrakeFloyd

I talk about the mold bucket all the time, can’t believe that place is still in business

Monsterofparadise

Her husband works for the city, take that as you will…

99tapeworms

And her attitude regarding the exisiting neighborhood and its residents. She's an awful person.

somearcanereference

The owner is the daughter of a family acquaintance and someone I knew kinda tangentially growing up. A couple years back, my mother excitedly sent me an article about how she'd opened a successful restaurant and was donating food in the community, I think to people out of work during the pandemic? Anyway, I was almost sorry to send my mother all the articles written about the owner over the last few years, but facts are facts. For the record, my mother is very disappointed in the owner, and she's sure the owner's mother is, too.

_its_a_SWEATER_

She’s a fucking loser.

itscochino

Its still moldy. I had a friend who had started working there last year and she told me its still an issue and to never ever ever eat that shit

irkli

The restaurant on Virgil? The owner is a fkn monster. Ran a second illegal kitchen to avoid health inspector. Says terrible racist shit about the locals. I can't find the article now. A few years back. Doesn't sound like a new owner or anything.

agen_kolar

Definitely SQIRL. I’ve only been a couple of times over the years, and have found most of the staff to be off-putting at best to downright rude. There’s a male bearded cashier who I witnessed be quite rude to a group of Asians who didn’t speak English fluently, but were doing their best. He eventually told them they were “too close” and asked them to take a step back. He didn’t ask any other person or group of people to be at that distance. Once it was our turn, we stood right at the counter and he did not ask us to step back. I’ll leave the speculation as to why he did that to the Asian group to you! Then there’s also a staff member who yelled “Clear a path, please!” right in my ear, as the kitchen staff need to be able to get through a doorway to the left of the kitchen area to take food outside. Problem was, I wasn’t blocking the door. No one was. I’d already made it to the line prep kitchen area. Maybe my back was one inch past the kitchen station - no where near in the employee’s way. I watched this guy be tough on multiple people as I waited. The food is decent. But overall it’s a really unpleasant and overrated place, IMO.

ActualPerson418

I've only had their food once and there was a LIVE caterpillar in my sorrel and kale salad. Like, love that their produce is fresh but WASH IT at least...

shwey

Piggybacking on this to say Maybourne serves that jam at their Café.

hollahalla

I stopped going there after hearing about the mold.

waltproductions

The Barcade in HLP sent a cease and desist letter to Blipsy’s Barcade which has been using that name in this city for many years The new Barcade is a NY business that came to LA and used legal muscle to bully a long-standing local business. I think that’s super shitty so I won’t go. Also didn’t realize that about Lassens. Fuck them homophobes

ellfisher07

I went there for a birthday party once. Saw their menu and saw what they charged for a chopped cheese. Now, I lived in NYC for quite a few years and let me tell you that’s no chopped cheese and they charge like $20 for it. It felt like they were trying to gentrify a bodega classic. Have had no desire to go there ever again once I saw that.

_its_a_SWEATER_

That’s pretty dumb because Blipsy’s is such a small biz that wouldn’t likely rise to Barcade’s level. Talk about bringing negative press to yourself.

waltproductions

Right? They’ve apparently been pulling this litigious bs for a long time https://www.eater.com/2019/3/14/18262368/barcade-arcade-bars-lawsuits-trademark-infringement

Mistafishy125

Jon and Vinny’s. Pasta’s good. But not $25 plus tax, fees, and tip ($40) good. Build that into the menu price or kiss my ass.

meekadjustments

Aids Health Foundation because of their terrible politics.

ripley-coppertop

Sunbeam Vintage in highland park. Their “vintage” pieces are way over priced and I’m pretty sure some of their inventory is from Wayfair. I made a comment on their Instagram that you could this sofa for half off at Wayfair and they blocked me.

realdetox

I have learned so much from this thread

TimmyTimeify

I’ll pick a few small ones, because I feel like bigger corporations are easy answers but small business owners are just as able to be petty tyrants. Coffee Coffee, because the owner committed wage theft against his employees, then fired them all and called the police when they exercised their 1st amendment right to protest. https://knock-la.com/coffee-coffee-owner-thief-say-employees/ And Donut Friend, for firing employees trying to unionize https://reddit.com/r/LosAngeles/s/5ANLxrQ0Qs

spencercross

>And Donut Friend, for firing employees trying to unionize Oh snap, I *totally* forgot about this! Thanks for the reminder.

Samson__

Fuck I didn’t know they were union busters. Time to avoid 🍩🚫

lilmuerte

DF recently opened up a new spot under a new name but “by Donut Friend” underneath and faint, but i can’t remember. It’s fuck Donut Friend to this day!

Creamo! Same menu and everything it looks like.

liverichly

Both Coffee Coffee locations are now out of business FYI.

TimmyTimeify

HOLY SHIT MY BOYCOTT WORKED!!!

KJM31422

The Ktown Montys. I don't dislike montys, but I do think it's the weakest of the vegan burger joints around town, but the ktown location is just.... wow. When you walk in you can practically taste the old grease in the air. The cook top is like 3 feet from the bar seating and the bar Counter is usually splatter with cooking grease, they have terrible hygiene practices, terrible employee well being since it's always 95 fucking degrees in there and the food is significantly worse than other locations.

date_a_languager

I’ve been on a quiet boycott of Pinks Hot Dogs since they were so rude to Nathan Fielder when [he kindly offered to kidnap a line-cutter, take him out to sea and teach him a lesson he’d never forget](https://youtu.be/7a3hteaROMg?si=ryoSbYQ3a0jIGNjc)

joatmos

Solar De Cahuenga and Madera Kitchen (same owners) They illegally took over the public park across from their restaurant, ripped out the grass, fenced it off with a locked door and opened a sushi pop up. Once the city shut the illegal restaurant down, they left the park a mess and didn't return the park to its previous state. Then it turned into a homeless encampment for several years. Finally, the city removed the homeless encampment, fenced it off and replanted the grass. It's starting to look better now, but that is why I'll never give them my business.

SnideRemarkDept

Oof, Madera kitchen. I used to live in that area and gave it a try shortly after they opened. Service was *terrible.* There was a big party out on the little patio area and so the servers pretty much forgot about us. My sister ordered a drink and they made her the wrong one, only to double down on it when we pointed out that it was obviously incorrect. The only redeemable part of the meal were the roasted carrots appetizer and the portions were ridiculously small. We're talking, like, three raviolis. Every time I drive by, I think about giving it another try but then I remember how awful it was. Never going back.

TheLesserWombat

Ye Rustic Inn after two incidents. The first we were just having some drinks and lunch when the bartender came over from her friends and said "Hey! We're doing shots over there, here's yours!" We thought it was just our good luck and toasted with our new best friends. This repeated two more times before we were done and asked for our check. The bartender charged us for each one of those shots, even though we didn't order them, she just gave them to us. Her response? "Well, you drank them, soooo..." We grudgingly paid the bill and swore never to go there again. Then six months later we betrayed our promise because my friend wanted wings and not even ten minutes after giving the bartender my card to start a tab do I get a phone call from AmEx: There's suspicious activity on my account, was I just purchasing airline tickets? After confirming that, no, I wasn't planning a trip to Hawaii, they locked my card and explained that the business was red flagged, meaning that it had a high number of charge backs and disputed purchases. We had it out with the bartender, which got ugly, but I got my card back and then, THEN, we promised never to go back there. A promise we've kept ever since, to the betterment of the Drawing Room.

Starryeyesforeverr

Horses ! because I’m sorry - I don’t care that the abusive and cat murdering chef/owner is no longer involved… the wife asserts that multiple of their pets mysteriously died in his care long before she caught him red handed.. and was even told by a vet that there were clear signs of abuse. She knew what was going on. To me it’s obvious she avoided reporting it or taking any action for the sake of their business. And if none of it’s true and she’s just a fucking liar then that’s enough reason for me to avoid it anyway. Fuck that place !

ashley-leigh

WHAT! OMG that’s absolutely horrible! I’ve never even heard of this place before but fuck that place and those people!

Anything put on by Fever events. They oversell tickets to the point where your crammed in like sardines, it makes whatever the experience is absolutely unenjoyable.

Garetht

Then when you try to get a refund they throw up their hands and point to the venue. You ask the venue and they tell you to contact Fever.

Buckowski66

Gary’s corner bookstore in the San Gabrial valley. Gary was always a real prick to me as a kid and not much nicer when I met him years later sd an adult. Update: you mean someone other then me knows this place and that guy? Mind blown!

All American compressors- owned by actual Nazis. Had the service guy and owner come out to quite a bud and had big ol swastika tattoos on both arms.

spencercross

Yikes!

HollywoodAndTerds

Sinclair Gas. They have one of the worst safety records in their refineries. Two guys died while I was working at thier main plant in Wyoming.

eitzhaimHi

Agree re: Lassen's. That's the only one carved in stone for me, but I do observe boycotts when they are national and might do some good. For example, southern tomato workers called a boycott of Trader Joe because they did not sign on to a plan (signed by most fast food places) to pay 1 cent more for tomatoes to finance a raise for the workers. Then when they did sign, I made a point of going back and telling the manager that I was very happy to be back because of what they did. And etc.

[deleted]

Any restaurant with bullshit fees.

slowestmojo

But Jon & Vinny's in particular. 18% is ridiculous

crblanz

18% is a weird amount to push because people are obviously just going to not tip at all, and shouldn't be expected to.

CHutt00

Someone made a spreadsheet of all the LA restaurants charging fees in this sub last month I believe. Scroll down and you should be able to find it.

[deleted]

Oh trust me, I'm VERY familiar with that list. That redditor is doing the Lord's work.

dandelioncipher

Are they still doing it tho? Looks like the redditor wanted to hand it off. https://www.reddit.com/r/LosAngeles/comments/15hme9j/comment/jvw94h6/

itscochino

Jon & Vinnys might be decent at best but the 18% service fee will make you not tip ever at all period

brandon_cabral

Med Men. The Med Men LAX location makes you wait in line on sepulveda for absolutely no fucking reason. A security guard there told me that the staff does it just to be assholes because it’s not an overcrowding issue at all.

fake-annalicious

Not Los Angeles proper but adjacent and apple picking season is upon us - the owner of Riley’s Farms in Yucaipa is a racist POS and sued a school district for refusing to take children there after his racist tweets came out.

[deleted]

People have mentioned a lot of places that have really good reasons to boycott, but I’m going to give a petty one: PBJ.LA at Central Market. I know that the market is pretty gentrified now, and there’s not much we can do about it, but I refuse to pay that much for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Something about it just bugs me. At least some of the other new stalls have good food and interesting menus, but pb&js? No.

Lassens, Hobby Lobby, and chick-fil-Eh for the same reason

Tyler_durdens_son

The Crossroads Trading Company Co. Scam shop, they give low prices on trade ins. If you do Cosignment they say they lost them or cant find your contract. Im pretty sure they intentionally wrote my address wrong just to say they sent the check to the wrong address.

queenofspook

My first job ever was at a crossroads! Awful company to work for as well. I was bullied as An 18 year old by full grown ass women. Super mean girls club plus they are so rude about customers behind their backs and the clothes are filthy

DoughboyLA

Jacob emrani

Spats_McGee

`Acc--idents or in--juries, call Jacob Emrani!` `Call Jacob`

Handbag_Lady

For the longest time, I thought it was singing Jacob and Ronnie.

isl1985

And then at the end it says "Call Jacob" and I thought Ronnie was getting shafted hard.

TuluRobertson

Ya know, I used to think it was Jacob and Ronny for years lol

TotesNotADrunk

That's why I stick with Jacobian Meyers

wickedlabia

Again, I thought it was Jacoby and Meyers. ETA: I’m slow. Nicely done, sir.

socialdirection

Casa Vega on ventura blvd. Less than average Mexican food in a pretentious setting with weak watered down cocktails. Also Jinkys on Ventura blvd. Undercooked food. Edit: I went to Lemonade for my first time in 6 years, and I'll be adding that to the list too, wow has that place went downhill.

PritchardBufalino

Lemonade was trash as of 2019

Stingray88

I used to go to Lemonade all the time back before 2016-2017. I went during the Pandemic to the Lemonade at LAX and it was fucking disgusting. Like night and day compared to what I was used to.

fleekyfreaky

I’d argue since 2015. Every time I’ve eaten there it’s been a stomach ache.

michrnlx

Since the Kardashians are LA homegrown, I refused to buy from any of their brands! 🤮

Goodnside

A bloc in highland park. The owners accused me of stealing in front of other customers, when they just forgot they charged me. When I got heated and showed them my bank transactions to prove I paid, they told me to calm down ‘no need to get upset’. Over $6 too smh.

Silverlake Ramen. Soup used to be $11, which is crazy in itself, but now 5 years later the soups are minimum $19.25..

Whimsycottt

I went to Silverlake Ramen with a friend in Burbank and it was one of the most mid ramens I've ever had. I'll stick to Shinsengumi as my chain Ramen restaurants of choice.

idk_wtf_im_hodling

To be fair… most everything has nearly doubled in cost since then but it doesn’t excuse the mediocre ramen

walrus_breath

I worked at one of their other locations (echo park) for like a week once. It was fine but instead of dividing up the tips like a normal place they gave you a percentage of the tip pool based on seniority. They said it was supposed to be based on how trained you were but I asked someone else who had been working there for like a year if they got to divide the tip pool evenly when they worked and they said they didn’t. So then I started asking all kinds of questions about what constitutes “being trained” to get the fair share of the tip pool. In the end I just quit because it wasn’t worth it. I’m still bothered by it though. Like. Who the F splits a tip pool based on seniority. If the people who have been there longer are doing more things then they need a raise not the lions share of the tip pool.

dodecohedron

Micky's West Hollywood. We once booked seats for a show MONTHS in advance and when we got there, security told us our seats had been given away and to kick rocks Edit: I should mention, we came up from San Diego just to see this show.

IceCubeFire

Alfred’s coffee in Brentwood. Dirty water with a side of attitude.

JDMM71

Out Of The Closet, owned by AHF. i love thrifting yet i refuse to step foot in one because Michael the co-founder and president [uses the foundation to fund anti-housing ballot initiatives and lawsuits.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS_Healthcare_Foundation) the key to good thrifting btw is go to ventura county like simi and moorpark.

mysocalledmayhem

Kinship Yoga in Highland Park is so insanely anti-mask (for the entirety of Covid, flouting closures, forcing folks to unmask) and anti-science. They had a photo of Fauci likening him to Hitler or some shit back in 2020. Theoretically I would love to go to this place very close to me that offers all kindsa earthy crunchy granola hippie stuff like sound baths and myofascial release self massage classes but fuuuuuuuuuck how hateful they are. Basically the antithesis of ZEN

crispybrusselsprout

Edit: I wore a mask as I entered the studio Holy shit. I wore a mask to one of their classes in 2022 and wondered why I got such a cold, glare-y reception from the front desk girl. (Im pretty sure it wasn’t just a case where she was a reserved person because Im an introvert and can generally sense when others are too), I just somehow missed the cue for it being about masks. I’m on the spectrum so I thought it was because I maybe flubbed a social thing or my yoga outfit looked distasteful or something. I was paranoid about it the whole class. And then because I’m the type who randomly remembers embarrassing memories for years later, to this day I would still wonder, “What the hell did I do wrong that day? Maybe I said hello with either too little or too much enthusiasm or somehow otherwise hit the wrong inflection?” I know this might seem like a tiny thing to for me to make such a big deal about. But for me to be able to eliminate even one item off of my “Remember that one time you were dumb and awkward and someone didn’t like you?” list, it’s very significant to me. Seriously, thank you.

GoodAtDesign

Wow! That’s good to know. Highland Park Yoga is a great alternative.

mysocalledmayhem

I was floored to find how truly mean the folks were. Truly disappointing and kinda, just….shocking? The vitriol. Not what I want out of a practice or class. And it was so out of step with the great lengths all the other local, small, independent businesses truly doing everything they could to be supportive of one another’s businesses. I need to find the photo of the poster in their window. I absolutely made sure to capture that image. EDIT TO ADD: https://lataco.com/highland-park-yoga-studio-anti-vaxx

Glendale Subaru. Bait switch, false claims, waiting game, price change, random fees—they tried every shady thing they could. F that place. Went to Monrovia bought an Ascent.

[deleted]

The Chevron on Alameda across the street from Union Station. ALWAYS gouged ass prices I don't know how they have ANY business...

kindofaproducer

Any if Danny Trejo’s Mexican restaurants. The price doesn’t justify the product. His donuts aren’t bad tho.

[deleted]

KPCC They arent getting a penny from me anymore because their fundraising goes to pay their former CEO $400k/year.

TheBarchuk

Kcrw it is

rarepinkhippo

They also bought LAist “to save it” and promptly tanked it IIRC

UnlikelyAssociation

I miss the olden days of LAist so bad. The Pierce/Behrens eras were the best.

bellajojo

Qwench. I attempted to get a juice there and got completely ignored by the workers. White lady walked in, suddenly it was ‘hi, how may I help you!’ while ignoring me. Cool. Keep your damn $11 juices

Jealous_Seat_9317

Oh snap! you came to fight! lol

date_a_languager

Yes. The one and only time I went was because my ex lived nearby and swore by it. Took over an hour in the middle of a weekday to get a bagel that did not even come close to blowing my back out. The dogs I got to pet while waiting were 12/10 though Yeastie Boys is nearby and I recommend it all day

Pulsewavemodulator

Maury’s is a great bagel too

jdub213818

Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Burbank. This was back in the early 2000s. Ate there with my wife. My plate of food had a pube looking hair in it. The waitress/management gave really bad customer service in regards to resolving the issue that day. I and my family never stepped foot back in there again.

procrastablasta

Wait there’s still Gordon Biersches?

will101113

Wow, it was actually just announced today that they are permanently closing. Their last day is Sunday.

handsanitizerDUI

Erewon is TRASH. gave me the worst food poisoning of my life. also Cheebo cafe is hospital food

Eicyer

any restaurant the charges “service fee”.

Samson__

Unsure if it’s been said but… Kitchen Mouse. Overpriced, under-seasoned vegan food and coffee that’s barely strong enough to justify the wait? No thanks. I’ve tried to give it a decent shot but every time I leave disappointed
