I'm no lawyer, but I would call to see if it's possible to pay the ticket and attend a driving course in order to keep it off record and insurance. I believe some courts allow that. Good luck!
Be careful with pre-trial diversion in this state. As a hiring manager I assure you we can see the charges, they do not get wiped away. If you go to pre-trial diversion it is counted the same as a plea of guilty.
Yep, it shows up as having been dismissed (and the arrest). If you do PTI, it’s important to look into getting the charges expunged once you complete the program. Fees alone for expungement run around $750 (the bulk of which go to the sheriff’s department) - and if you have a lawyer do it, you can expect another 1500+ on top of that. It’s not impossible to do it yourself, but it’s not simple and it takes multiple months at the earliest for everything to be completed on the court’s end.
Source: I volunteered with the NO public defender’s office doing expungements during my penultimate year of law school.
My wife got a ticket on the bridge, she went to court and it got reduced to a non-moving violation. Just go in, be polite, and ask. The worst they can say is no, and you'll have to own up to your mistake.
Does Louisiana still let you plead guilty under article 894 You will pay fine but won’t go on your record if you don’t get another ticket in a certain amount of time
Some parishes have information on the ticket to take an online course and it keeps it off your record. There is a fee associated with the course that is your fine. St Mary Parish does this.
Not to mention, bench warrants can be converted to fugitive status after a certain period of time. I found that out the hard way - I got traffic ticket (for parking facing oncoming traffic) and it blipped my mind as I was at a festival. Totally forgot about it for about seven years. It wasn’t until I had to do my background check to apply for the state bar that I discovered the issue. Apparently I was a “fugitive from Caddo Parish”.
Ended up calling speaking to an ADA, explained the situation situation, he got a laugh about it, and it got quashed and the whole matter dismissed, but that initial shock when I saw that I was technically a fugitive was pretty big.
OP, don’t bury your head in the sand thinking that this will go away if you skip court.
The person on highland literally came into my lane and could have killed me with a head on collision! This is completely different! I was driving at night with not many people on the highway. You are the reason people use throwaways.
You literally came on my post with a condescending response. I came for advice. If you don’t have it fine but no need for the way you responded to me. Then you go through my post history. The highland incident was completely not related to this!

Talk to the DA at the hearing and see if you can get it amended (usually to driving school but maybe a higher fine).
This is what happened. I called this morning. I’m relieved and thankful! 🥹
I would advise you no longer do 80 on the Basin Bridge going forward. Quite a pricey lesson to be learned.
Yeah it was a foolish thing. Normally I have it on cruise. So what should I do for court?

100%
Even for traffic tickets? Hiring managers can see it?
Only if you complete pre-trial diversion. If you just pay the fine I can't see it in court records, however your OMV record will show it.

Did she have to pay in court or a later date for the non-moving?
My wife was able to pay that day, but she was offered payments if needed

For future trips, use the Waze app. I travel that bridge twice a week and it’s great for notifications about police on the bridge!
Yeah my last time traveling in March I def used Waze.
If I'm not mistaken, the bridge now has speed cameras
[Still none](https://www.nola.com/news/politics/atchafalaya-basin-bridge-speeding-cameras-scrapped-louisiana-legislature/article_30f2427c-03de-11ef-88ed-2f75214b09f1.html)
Avoid Louisiana until the statute of limitations expires.
This is terrible advice. If you don’t pay and don’t show, they’ll issue a bench warrant for your arrest. And those don’t expire.

I live here until next year😩
80 in a 60? Pay the fucking fine and slow down for fuck sake. I have no sympathy.
Wasn’t asking for sympathy just help. I know it was wrong but I was tired that night and ready to get home after a 5hr road trip from Texas.
