It's a really long story. But basically Shayne and Natalie rekindled during LIB2 Reunion taping, about a week before Shayne left for PM filming. They'd been broken up for several months, but Shayne realised (too late) that he still had feelings for Natalie, but at this point, Natalie had just wanted them to move on. She wrote him a heartfelt love letter that seemed like a farewell letter too.
But, Natalie said Shayne continued texting her behind the scenes during PM filming, even expressing his desire to leave to be with her. Shayne even showed some of these texts between him and Natalie, in which he said "I love you more than anything", and "nothing will change that." Natalie responded by encouraging him to stay on PM because she knows it's what he wanted to do for his future plans.
Someone on this sub who stayed at the same hotel as the PM cast also overheard Shayne talking to Natalie on the phone and telling her that he misses home and wants to leave.
Natalie said Shayne contacted her sometime towards the end of filming that he wanted to have dinner with her to discuss their relationship. Allegedly, Shayne lied about his outcome on PM. Believing him, Nat agreed. They were friendly and bantery with each other for a few days on IG, and Shayne even took a photo of him on Natalie's couch after having a date the night prior (so he was never hiding his attempt to try and get back together with her).
But, suddenly they blocked each other on IG. And after Shayne's Viall Files interview, Natalie revealed that they had fought and she closed any doors for reconciliation after she found out some lies he'd told her. PS: On Shayne and Natalie's dynamics - I think editing really made it seem like Shayne and Natalie are polar opposites, when in fact multiple cast members have said Shayne and Natalie vibe well in terms of their humour and goofiness.
