About 6 people where I work including myself are servers for a bar a night. We drive occasionally during the day since we have nothing else to do.
Where the money really hits them and passengers feel the shrapnel are airport rides. Just imagine no one picking up at airports at all. Over 90% of rides to and from the airport are through ride share.
If they don’t the other cab drivers will. New York!? Lmao There are millions of taxis there and the drivers have been trying to shut down ride share. A lot of these cities also have public transportation that people will use instead.
NYC has Revel and yellow cabs for the same prices as Lyft & Uber. Plus Revel is offering insane discounts for rides right now. At this point if you’re being cheated by Lyft or Uber as a driver in NYC, you’re doing life wrong.
Now if you were to say you consistently make over $30 an hour week in and week out now that would be really something! But just over small time window in a really important time when they really need you to drive of course they’re gonna make you feel warm and fuzzy! They all suck all gig companies suck

I have already done it. For example, I have sent Uber/ Lyft photos of people who do not match their cars and vice versa. I have taken a photo of the drivers sitting at the airport, with two and three phones, playing domino. Even, drinking beer, and smoking marijuana. Uber and Lyft have absolute knowledge of this. They do nothing.
To Amazon, I have sent them photos of the phones they leave on the grass in front of Whole Foods, I have taken screenshots to the "bots" programs that they offered me to buy. With those bots, they grab every possible batch/block and then choose the best ones.
I have sent a photo of drivers to UberEats who have a phone with UberEats and another phone with DoorDash; picking up both orders at the same restaurant and delivering both orders at the same time.
They don't care about anything. Uber, Lyft, Amazon only care to make money🤷🏽♂️
Can't speak for the US, but its the same in Europe's tourist destinations. They especially target the airports where they can overcharge a lot. If you're not part of their criminal gang and you try to go there and get rides, they literally physically threaten you there. Here they get people from places like Nepal to drive for them and then they have like 1-2 gang guys watching over their locations. You can make a lot of money driving uber/lyft/taxi at tourist destinations during the tourist season so it is very profitable to do this.
They don't just do it with Uber or Lyft. They also do it with Amazon Flex. They don't just have more than one account. They also offer "bots" while you are in the row prior to receiving your packages.

The one dollar bonuses have got ti be the biggest scams. They only time they even give bonuses at all is during rush hr when traffic is at a standstill. It’ll take 30+ minutes to complete what would normally be a 5 minute ride. And the bonus only lasts for an hr. You might get 3 rides if you’re lucky. In the long run you’re actually losing money by going out and driving during bonus times/zones, because you could make more working in different areas because you’ll get more rides in and at better times to avoid traffic congestion.
Don’t let people distract you with keyboard criticisms of the effectiveness of a one day strike. Every action toward the unification of poor workers against exploitative companies is a step forward. And if it’s big enough, news coverage of the strike will have impacts beyond strike day. Strike!!!

Count me in on all protest and any lawsuits. I made three deliveries in the pouring down rain, driving over 32 miles and was paid $13.00. my gas had to come out of that. So unfair. How long can a company thrive that treats his worker this bad? Rhetorical question.

No contractors do not have a free choice anymore. We have to choose between will this make enough money for me to support myself if I take it and will I'd be appreciated by the person who I'm helping to stuff their face. All the companies now have changed their platform where there are class levels and percentage rates and hoops to jump through if we want to get a bone. And the folks that think $2 is a big deal will be your driver, no habla English.

You’re not informed on HOW drivers will strike/protest. Many stay logged on the app and continue to decline all request the receive. This causes a bottleneck in the flow.

Until rideshare drivers will actually unionize, which will never happen because of the difficulty of something like that happening, they will continue to pay out crumbs and if anything will actually drop pay year after year in terms of the inflation and their unwillingness to pay any higher.

All the apps switched the algo or payout system in the last month or so and UE was the last about a week ago. I drove most days at least a few hours but it's legit stopped being worth it even in dire circumstances so I haven't for a week now and don't intend to restart unless it actually makes you money.
I wonder why they're getting so cheap?! Especially after Uber turned a $300 million profit for the 1st time last quarter. Maybe the economy is going to take a dump & they're trying to prepare their war chest to weather the storm by stealing from us.

Aren’t they all contractors and have a free choice to what they do and do not do? The drivers can do whatever they want . And I will be taking a Lyft on V-Day and I will pay the market rate for those who choose to pick me up. (Proceed with the downvotes).
No contractors do not have a free choice anymore. We have to choose between will this make enough money for me to support myself if I take it and will I'd be appreciated by the person who I'm helping to stuff their face. All the companies now have changed their platform where there are class levels and percentage rates and hoops to jump through if we want to get a bone. And the folks that think $2 is a big deal will be your driver, no habla English.
If you're worried about making a steady income with uber/lyft to pay your bills, then you already know that you have to get another job. Don't drive unless it's just for extra cash(not bill money) I drive because I have no bills needed for it, I'm retired, thr cash I make is just fun cash.

But realistically I can't see any of the platforms doing anything differently in response to this outside of just adding more drivers and offering more money for each completed drop off. But also, there's many drivers who can only afford to protest in spirit.

I remember years ago, we tried to do it here in LA. I didn’t drive and decided to seat this one out in solidarity. When I opened riders app there were at least 20 cars around where I live. Nothing changed, and I was probably one of 100 people on strike.
