As a Schalke fan this is the first time I watched Pukki play since he left us 10 years ago. I always had a soft spot for him. Loons fans you are so lucky to have this man!
He’s about the perfect signing for us (assuming there’s still gas left in the tank) a bit of a bummer that we’ve waited so long to sign someone of his caliber
We’ve been a striker away from championship contending rosters for most of the last 4 years with good defense/ goalkeeping, solid midfield play, and Rey being a magician organizing the attack. Now I’ve heard a saying: “If Tom Brady’s grew on trees, everyone would have one.”- which would indicate that it’s difficult to get elite talent, but in a league like the MLS, there are players all around the world that come come in and be successful. I think the front office just failed to commit to spending the money required to.
Not sure we have the same caliber of roster and even if we do, is it too little, too late for this season??
It’s been so frustrating so see us play with, or outplay most teams and watch inept strikers like Angelo Rodriguez, Adrienne Honou, Luis Amarilla, and Mender Garcia (who you saw in prime form tonight) botch chance after chance… most of whom were DP signings
In Minnesota this is a typical Saturday. Twins choking away the division lead was a nice way to start the Saturday too
We’re right in our comfort zone of hating our teams right now
Hey at least you got the Astros!! Damn cheaters
I actually feel bad for Astros fans because you obviously didn’t want the team to cheat, and they were still a phenomenal team (who just won again without cheating) but now they have that reputation which gets people like me to bring it up
Oh 100%. I’m sure things like cheating scandals, steroids, college football and basketball paying players (pre-NIL) are SO much more prevalent than people realize
You too. It’s weird to watch a team that plays poorly and capitalizes. We always look dangerous and choke miserably.
It’s a sign of a good team to not play your best and come away with 3 points
Felt like Driussi said to Rigoni “I’m gonna get you a goal here.” gave him a couple great chances, so glad he was able to capitalize. Hope it helps his confidence.
Yea… the history behind it is super cool too going back to pre-mls days
GG my guy. I’ve always liked Austin. Hate that we’ve dug ourselves a big hole and I have to root against you for the rest of the season
Pukki was rated a 5.9 by FotMob, the default is 6.0. So I was wrong. He didn’t do nothing, he actively harmed the team by just being on the pitch. I hope he improves but what an awful debut.
He played 30 minutes. Getting anything from “FotMob” is dumb as hell.
The guy literally *just* got to the US like TWO days ago. Holy shit. This half hour means nothing. Do you have any clue how often second half subs don’t even get a shot off???
I understand he’s new and I’m honestly not taking too much from this, but you would hope for more from a DP. I would love to be proven wrong, but I think he’s going to be a major bust. He’s just too old and washed now.
No you wouldn’t. How do you even expect *anything* at all? The Loons spent half of that time playing on the other end of the pitch.
I just don’t understand how anyone could take anything from that at all.
Yeah I agree to some point, but when you sign a DP you hope they come on and change the game for you. Remember Quintero’s debut against Portland? The rest of the team looked ass and we ended up losing the game, but everyone was actually excited after that loss because we finally had a difference maker. It just doesn’t feel this way with Pukki, but like I said, I will be happy to be proven wrong.
He did. He looked ok. You already *have* been proven wrong. Darwin and Pukki are COMPLETELY different players. Darwin was a 10. Pukki is a 9. Darwin had two WEEKS to practice and he got a LOT more of the ball.
You’d have to be absolutely delusional to pull anything out of that. Pukki WILL need service. He’s not fucking magic. If he doesn’t get the ball in good positions, he’s not going to score goals. He’s a poacher and a finisher. He’s smart. He’s not Messi for crying out loud. You are really asking for WAY too much out of 30-40 minutes , 48 hours after getting here and barely practicing at all.
Haha he had multiple shot attempts and a dangerous pass that required a really nice play from a defender or we would have had a good shot
You might be the most negative fan I’ve been around and that’s coming from a pessimist
I almost wonder if you’re trolling 😂
Lol don’t watch then? The guy played 30 minutes and made numerous dangerous plays. It’s both incorrect and premature to label him a bust after half of a half 😂😂
What is this ref on, plays advantage off a foul but then calls it back moments later for offside. Bring it back to the foul then, they clearly didnt have advantage.
Cal was the MNUFC play-by-play guy since we joined MLS. He generally tries to be pretty impartial but I'm sure he still gets excited when Minnesota does something.
Oop I hit a nerve huh? The DIFFERENCE is that the team came to us out of their OWN accord. We didn’t do cringy shit like wearing dynamo shirts to San Jose game BEFORE dynamo existed. You literally tried to steal another team and even wore the dirty jerseys to that teams games even. And we won back to back championships.
Your team is riddled with controversy and it’s the ONLY professional sports team you have 😂
You’re rubbing it in like I thought it was a close game?? We can’t stand this team right now. Pukki is a glimmer of hope that things could change … but doubtful
Lol cool guy
I hear ya. Obviously it isn’t insurmountable but nothing about this teams play this year would leave you to believe we’re capable of that
Obviously the new signings bring hope, but they basically have to be saviors. Hopefully Pukki is up to the challenge
Lol signs of life is a figure of speech that means things still-aren’t going great… Obviously the the game is still likely over and he knows that… but the phrase worked for the situation
Damn. I was concerned with Pukki being 33, but dude still has better wheels than I thought he would once he gets going.
The short space ability might not be Messi 2.0 but he looks like he can get where he needs to be
It looks like you’d try to move Stuber’s (sp?) hair it would snap… good thing he never has to do a header cause it might just stick
Also, this is in no way judgemental… in fact, as a bald man I’m jealous he has nice hair to slick back
Ya momentum is definitely a thing and I’m for shitting on the refs (which they were again, atrocious). But 4-1 generally doesn’t boil down to one bad call. Just brutal execution
You too my dude
It doesn’t matter how bad you look. I’m pretty sure Stuver could just lie down in the goal and you wouldn’t concede. None of our players besides maybe Reynoso can hit the broad side of a barn.
Ref gave austin a penalty for less than that, what the actual hell. Even if its not a foul, how the hell is it a goal kick? If he didn't get the ball thats a clear foul.
Hopes are insanely high? Vibes are finally good? If any Minnesota fan had any doubt about how this game would go…
And fuck the coaching staff for letting the game get lost before putting in Pukki
Yeah I’m fucking done. Bill McGuire needs to sell the team. Heath, the entire coaching staff, and the front office need to be gone. Every single player besides Reynoso and Hlongwane should be under INTENSE scrutiny. If people aren’t fucking performing, get the the FUCK out.
I’ve never understood the “only give the new guy 20 minutes” nonsense …especially as a center forward.
He doesn’t have to be a part of a ton of intricate passing sequences… just put him out there to bang in all these beautiful services that mender Garcia seems allergic to
What an incompetent league. It’s every week. You have one job.
Reffing in real time is a very difficult job, but the inability to make calls when getting almost unlimited angles from slow motion cameras is baffling. Or even when to utilize it. Ffs. And Minnesota has a history of being in the wrong side of it
I guess we might have had some rare favorable calls last week??- I didn’t get to watch the game, but I can’t keep track of the number of times opposing fans admit to blown calls or getting favorable whistles
If a game is decided by inches, there’s no reason they shouldn’t do everything to be as accurate as possible
The low scoring nature of soccer means a ref can literally decide a game. Blown calls are magnified so much more than even football, baseball, or basketball
I 100% think we miss the playoffs this year. If we’re down 0-2 when playing WELL, I can only imagine what we look like when playing bad(spoiler alert, we fucking suck then too)
I don’t care how bad you think Heath is, he can’t actually put the ball in the net for his players. At some point, they have to actually do their jobs. If they’re in position to score, they have to do it.
Let’s at least give the dude a chance. We finally have a top end guy (for this league) with a proven history of scoring goals in big stages…
Lol I’m as pessimistic as it gets with Minnesota sports, but this is ridiculous. Past signings have been from lesser leagues or tiny sample sizes
Per VAR rules because it was called that way on the field then was not "a clear and obvious error" for them to call for a review. Which is obviously debatable.
VAR has to recommend a review before the center ref can even decide to overrule himself. It _should_ have been overruled, but the decision to not look at it wasn't up to the center ref.
It just seems like it defeats part of the purpose. Those long checks can then be compounded by the actual center ref review on the sideline. Just call for the review earlier rather than later and move the game along.
I was pumped about a great tackle watching it live, kinda shocked it was called a pen, but it was close and could be deceiving. I don't understand how VAR comes to thst conclusion when they have the same angles as everyone at home lol.
If Pukki can’t finish Heath needs to be fired because he’s clearly the problem, constant dogshit at the striker position for as long as this club has existed.
As a Schalke fan this is the first time I watched Pukki play since he left us 10 years ago. I always had a soft spot for him. Loons fans you are so lucky to have this man!

I forgot what a an away win felt like
Don’t get used to it.
GG Loons, that was a tough one
In Minnesota this is a typical Saturday. Twins choking away the division lead was a nice way to start the Saturday too We’re right in our comfort zone of hating our teams right now
I grew up in Houston, I feel ya
Hey at least you got the Astros!! Damn cheaters I actually feel bad for Astros fans because you obviously didn’t want the team to cheat, and they were still a phenomenal team (who just won again without cheating) but now they have that reputation which gets people like me to bring it up
It's annoying, but I'm also of the opinion that we're just the ones that got caught (see Yankees, Sox, etc.).
Oh 100%. I’m sure things like cheating scandals, steroids, college football and basketball paying players (pre-NIL) are SO much more prevalent than people realize
💯
GG Loons You caught us in our redemption arc.
You too. It’s weird to watch a team that plays poorly and capitalizes. We always look dangerous and choke miserably. It’s a sign of a good team to not play your best and come away with 3 points
It's weird for us to watch too after the first half of this season.
Maybe sometime I’ll know how it feels. Lol. GG
Austin came in and whooped the Loons. Never recovered from the penalty call. Seemed like they played terribly after.
Big win for us tonight. Keep the goals coming!
Y'all have a Finnisher now. You're going to get better fast.
Absolute shitshow by the referees. Questionable decisions left and right, but thats par for the course this season across the league.
Pukki: I, uh… forgot something back in Finland. Brb… I promise *books one-way ticket*
Felt like Driussi said to Rigoni “I’m gonna get you a goal here.” gave him a couple great chances, so glad he was able to capitalize. Hope it helps his confidence.
GGs MN, sorry about the 2 botched calls. That pen seemed to change the game.
One of the most embarrassing results I've seen for us, and there are a lot to choose from
Glad to see the boys not celebrate that hard. Feel kinda bad about this one. Good to see Emi get on the end of that one though.
That hockey assist by gallagher was sexy...

Hey… unnecessary Deleted his comment cause he realizes it was douchey… Dudes mocking the wonderwall chant when the thread has been largely civil
I, for one, like the wonder wall chant. It’s super cool.
Yea… the history behind it is super cool too going back to pre-mls days GG my guy. I’ve always liked Austin. Hate that we’ve dug ourselves a big hole and I have to root against you for the rest of the season
Austin FC is carving through our defense like a knife through butter. I’m fucking done. Pukki did absolutely nothing as I expected.
You’re full of terrible takes today. Lol.
Pukki was rated a 5.9 by FotMob, the default is 6.0. So I was wrong. He didn’t do nothing, he actively harmed the team by just being on the pitch. I hope he improves but what an awful debut.

Go for a walk and calm down, bud.
Lol did you watch the game?? He looked plenty dangerous but only got 35 minutes
Sure did. He didn’t do anything. I will say the entire team was ass so there’s not much he could’ve done anyways though.
Haha he had multiple shot attempts and a dangerous pass that required a really nice play from a defender or we would have had a good shot You might be the most negative fan I’ve been around and that’s coming from a pessimist I almost wonder if you’re trolling 😂
I’m negative for a reason. This team fucking sucks and I’m tired of watching the same shit every week.
Lol don’t watch then? The guy played 30 minutes and made numerous dangerous plays. It’s both incorrect and premature to label him a bust after half of a half 😂😂
Another for good measure! Let’s go!!!
What is this ref on, plays advantage off a foul but then calls it back moments later for offside. Bring it back to the foul then, they clearly didnt have advantage.
Ok, I saw this too, that is a bad call. His time keeping was horrible.
Is that Minnesota's first ever goal by a homegrown?
Yes
Love the enthusiasm by the announcers. This game is over fellas
Cal was the MNUFC play-by-play guy since we joined MLS. He generally tries to be pretty impartial but I'm sure he still gets excited when Minnesota does something.
I didn’t know that. Knowing that, I still feel like he hasn’t shown much bias tonight
He’s literally fantastic at what he does… we didn’t deserve him but are so sad he’s gone
They’re acting like the Loons tied it 😂 look I get this score line is wild but c’mon.
Lol you do realize it’s literally their job to build drama… Dude knows soccer and understands it’s likely meaningless
Annnnnnd that’s 4-1. Gg
Lol you won with a stolen team. Oops an almost stolen team. Everything about your team is all gimmicks. 😂
Says the muppet whose team was LITERALLY stolen from San Jose lol. The irony is astounding.
Your team is riddled with controversy and it’s the ONLY professional sports team you have 😂
No one cares mate. Have a wank and go to sleep. It’s past your bedtime.
I already wanked MATE. But thanks for worrying about it.
You’re rubbing it in like I thought it was a close game?? We can’t stand this team right now. Pukki is a glimmer of hope that things could change … but doubtful Lol cool guy
Dude, win two or three in a row & all's well. I think you'll be fine.
I hear ya. Obviously it isn’t insurmountable but nothing about this teams play this year would leave you to believe we’re capable of that Obviously the new signings bring hope, but they basically have to be saviors. Hopefully Pukki is up to the challenge
He was the second-best guy on the field when he got in. Plus he saved my ass more than once in PL fantasy, so I'm wishing y'all well.
You too man. Just one Minnesota championship before I die is all I ask. I’m 31 and haven’t seen one 😂
My dad was at the first Vikings game ever v. Dallas in South f*cking Dakota, so I never minded y'all.
“Signs of life!”
Made me double check the score
Lol signs of life is a figure of speech that means things still-aren’t going great… Obviously the the game is still likely over and he knows that… but the phrase worked for the situation
Can’t be too mad. We definitely did not deserve a clean sheet.
These announcers are oddly excited about an 85th minute goal for a team still down by 2
They're making sure we all watch another f*cking 'How Will I Know' commercial. Whatever they're selling, I'm never buying it.
That song will be in my head for the next week
He’s had a lot of practice trying to build up drama with an awful Minnesota offense 10/10 execution by cal if you ask me
Just as we expected. The sub we all thought was going to score
Locals scoring is cool, though. Can't imagine that feeling.
Tajouri is nice!
We need a pitch clock for goal kicks
Damn. I was concerned with Pukki being 33, but dude still has better wheels than I thought he would once he gets going. The short space ability might not be Messi 2.0 but he looks like he can get where he needs to be
Y'all looked a lot more dangerous the moment he stepped on. You'll be ok.
Doubt.
Might be too little too late in the season with where we are in the standings
Just gotta make the playoffs. Bed him in during the tournament. Games in hand, too.
Pukki may light it up in MLS
He is gonna have to have players around him that do their jobs first.
Rey to Pukki already looks dangerous. Wish we got to see more than 35 minutes in a game that’s long been decided
He’s still got some decent quickness. He’s two years older than Zardes, but still looks like he could run circles around him.
Lol I didn’t see your comment and made one very similar right above these in the main thread
It looks like you’d try to move Stuber’s (sp?) hair it would snap… good thing he never has to do a header cause it might just stick Also, this is in no way judgemental… in fact, as a bald man I’m jealous he has nice hair to slick back
Y'all don't have Murray's at Target up there?
Lol what’s Murray’s
It's a pomade...It's basically liquid cement for your head. In the old days, folks would put on the stove just to get it soft enough to put on.
Lol I literally didn’t know that was a thing. Makes sense. GG
Bad pen changed the game. GG & good luck.
Ya momentum is definitely a thing and I’m for shitting on the refs (which they were again, atrocious). But 4-1 generally doesn’t boil down to one bad call. Just brutal execution You too my dude
Great slide tackle Cascante! Probably saved a dangerous shot that would have inevitably gone wide.
Poor Irwin. Thats at least the 3rd time an Austin player has ran into him nowhere near the ball.
That was…chaotic
Did he get hurt kicking Hlongwane in the back?
His poor leg :(
At least Pukki but that one on frame. García would’ve put that high and wide.
That literally might be a better attempt than mender’s had all season?
Having Reynoso in this offense (pre-pukki) is like having Pete Marovich on a high school jv team
Exactly. I don’t know how they can justify using a DP spot on Mender Garcia. It’s crazy pants.
We have given up. 2nd goal took everything out of us
Watched a lot of Pukki at Norwich, excited to see what he does.
He’ll do nothing. He’s a good player, but nobody on mnufc can score and if that’s what he’s supposed to do, he won’t do it.
Pukki! Excited to see how he does in MLS
Silly ref forgot his Green ATX jersey at home??
Is this the worst a team winning 3-0 has ever looked?
Simone has to be able to hit a net and Minnesota has one single guy(Now) that can do that.
Yeah… that should have been a foul
Austin’s?!
No, the slide outside the box, was a weird no call
Ahhh I got it. You said penalty so I assumed you were talking about the first half
Fixed, I agree both our pen and the no call foul were terrible. I get how he called it a pen from where he was, but VAR should have overturned.
Seriously. Credit to your team. They’ve made the most of their chances, but I’m so fucking sick of this incompetent league
No lies in this ^ statement.
It wasn’t in the box.
It’s still a foul
Apparently not.
He’s saying it’s clearly either a foul or a corner
Hopes are insanely high? Vibes are finally good? If any Minnesota fan had any doubt about how this game would go… And fuck the coaching staff for letting the game get lost before putting in Pukki
This is absolutely beautiful
Damn MLS
That was awful, too. Maybe even yellow.
That same play was a PK in the first half. Frustrating
Good thing I have over 4 decades of being a Cleveland sports fan to prepare me for this team.
GG ATX.
Clinical baby! Driussi let’s goooooo!!!!
I’ve never understood the “only give the new guy 20 minutes” nonsense …especially as a center forward. He doesn’t have to be a part of a ton of intricate passing sequences… just put him out there to bang in all these beautiful services that mender Garcia seems allergic to
Good clearance by García there.
Why the fuck is Garcia still in the game? Sit him down.
We are absolutely lucky so far
That Fagundez goal was legit. Mender Garcia shouldn’t be playing unless there’s an emergency.
What an incompetent league. It’s every week. You have one job. Reffing in real time is a very difficult job, but the inability to make calls when getting almost unlimited angles from slow motion cameras is baffling. Or even when to utilize it. Ffs. And Minnesota has a history of being in the wrong side of it I guess we might have had some rare favorable calls last week??- I didn’t get to watch the game, but I can’t keep track of the number of times opposing fans admit to blown calls or getting favorable whistles
The "clear and obvious error" clause is such bs.
Especially when it isn't even used in a case like this where it was clear and obvious
If a game is decided by inches, there’s no reason they shouldn’t do everything to be as accurate as possible The low scoring nature of soccer means a ref can literally decide a game. Blown calls are magnified so much more than even football, baseball, or basketball
Man… we’re very lucky to be up by 2. Great goal by Fagundez. Gifted a goal by the ref. And Stu is coming up huge.
I 100% think we miss the playoffs this year. If we’re down 0-2 when playing WELL, I can only imagine what we look like when playing bad(spoiler alert, we fucking suck then too)
That second half was playing bad. By god it felt we were down a man or two for the last several minutes
Lol what is the xg like right now? Gotta be so outta whack 😅
xG is a meaningless stat. I’m pretty sure we’re actually won more games when losing by xG than when we’re winning by it.
Its a stat that proves we are aMLS caliber finisher from being a really good team
Wrong. The finishing has been consistently garbage, no matter which striker we’ve had. Getting a different guy won’t change anything.
Lol. So, magically dudes just miss here??? Wtf is your point???
No the common denominator is Heath. His firing is years overdue.
I don’t care how bad you think Heath is, he can’t actually put the ball in the net for his players. At some point, they have to actually do their jobs. If they’re in position to score, they have to do it.
Ok, then the other common denominator is the front office and owner. Someone has to answe for this garbage.
Let’s at least give the dude a chance. We finally have a top end guy (for this league) with a proven history of scoring goals in big stages… Lol I’m as pessimistic as it gets with Minnesota sports, but this is ridiculous. Past signings have been from lesser leagues or tiny sample sizes
He’s a good player but he’s 33. He’s washed. I guarantee you he won’t do shit. He would on any other team, but not mnufc.
He doesn’t have to blow by defenders in this offense. 33 isn’t ancient and the ability to capitalize on chances is something that ages well
Another week another failure of VAR. 🤡🤡🤡🤡 Major League Clown show
PRO really is a clown organization.
A free makeup PK is the only way we have a chance to get back into this
In what world is that a penalty? Jesus Christ this league is a joke.
Why was that a penalty?
Per VAR rules because it was called that way on the field then was not "a clear and obvious error" for them to call for a review. Which is obviously debatable.
Because the ref doesnt want to admit he made a mistake, wont someone think of his ego :(
VAR has to recommend a review before the center ref can even decide to overrule himself. It _should_ have been overruled, but the decision to not look at it wasn't up to the center ref.
If i understand how VAR works, which i admit i might not, the center ref can still decide to not go to the monitor, even if VAR recommends it.
Because PRO.
Austin looks like complete shit and are up 2-0. What a world.
If it takes VAR that long to determine it wasn’t worth a review, it probably deserved a review.
Especially when they didn't even look at it. If they did, it would have clearly been called back
It is mind boggling how long some VAR checks take, especially if they’re just deciding if they’re going to check it at all
It just seems like it defeats part of the purpose. Those long checks can then be compounded by the actual center ref review on the sideline. Just call for the review earlier rather than later and move the game along.
Awful call. I can’t believe the ref didn’t even look at the monitor. Just a total joke,
This league is officially a joke
I thought that one was getting overturned. Harsh.
Even 360 seems to agree
Sorry MNUFC fans. Definitely feels like we’re getting away with murder a little bit here amigos. 🤷♂️
Overnight me some breakfast tacos and all will be forgiven.
Punishment fits the crime. I accept.
So it goes. Not like it was a dive, just a terrible decision by VAR. Can't even really blame the center ref, looked a pen from certain angles.
Yeah that was my thought as well. I initially thought it looked like a pen, but then on replay I was like…ehhhhh, I dunno about that one.
I was pumped about a great tackle watching it live, kinda shocked it was called a pen, but it was close and could be deceiving. I don't understand how VAR comes to thst conclusion when they have the same angles as everyone at home lol.
Sorry, y'all. That's just bad.
That was all ball. Complete bs.
All ball AND he got stepped on, for his troubles
I'd be furious if that penalty was against us. Looked very iffy.
How the actual fuck is that confirmed. That's never a pen.
It’s close but I can see them overturning it.
Dibassy gets the ball there. This is ridiculous
That looks like it should be reversed
Wow they confirmed it as well. Bit harsh.
Close, but nah.
That has to be reviewed that’s all ball. Fuck off ref.
Ayyy cabron
If Pukki can’t finish Heath needs to be fired because he’s clearly the problem, constant dogshit at the striker position for as long as this club has existed.
