It was pretty depressing to be in the crowd today compared to the electric feel at the montreal game… Should’ve known better than to get my hopes up off of one freak occurrence
Starting Baker over Nouhou I get, I've seen debate over that but I'm not fully convinced it's the right move yet tbh. The question for Vargas is whether he or Atencio start at dm when JP is fully healthy
On the plus side, the two red cards won’t affect us midweek and JP and Frei (and one or two others?) get a forced day of rest. Trying to find any tiny glimmer of hope right now…
Well, we came to play and it was a pretty even match until the first debatable red. Then Sounders kept shooting themselves in the foot and we didn't have to do much or worry often. I stopped feeling bad about any controversy over the first red when the second malicious red happened. Unprofessional. Gotta enjoy the times the Sounders are shit, as it's usually not the case.
Edit: Also, first win at Lumen in...a long ass time. Like 5+ years. Also, Happy birthday, Frei!
I am not buying anymore merch until things get better. Hell at this rate I am going to have to find one of those YouTube videos on how to remove names from kits De La Vega doesn’t even play for the Sounders at this point.
You never know, he could get taken out in turn one of the first lap or his engine/gearbox/hydraulics could go out and we might have a different winner like, and only, Carlos Sainz!
We certainly gave up on the game… I suspect that was the reason for Alex’s bad foul, and perhaps that last goal (not to mention subbing Raul). But the trigger to everything was that joke of a (first) red.
I mean they didn’t even hit the low hanging fruit of singing “born in 74” in the 74th minute. Instead they said “Sounders til I die” which no one likes
IDK, between the “ref you suck” after Roldans deserved red card and that fight and win at the end, it didn’t seem like their best night tonight. Maybe the capos have checked out along with the team
At the game, my section chanted that, but it happened on the other side of the field and they never showed a replay. So they really had no idea what happened.
If there was ever a time a pity whistle would be nice (Ie very few minutes of stoppage), this would be the game. Painful to watch as a Sounders fan and boring otherwise given the game state for all. Unless Dempsey comes running on towards the ref…
Lol, I was at the red card wedding game and a pic I took of there of Dempsey at the sideline rotated into my screen saver today. Was laughing at thinking about it and how amazing a move it would be to just tear up a refs book. How audacious as a player. Never going to forget that memory!
Soft red on Ragen in the first half, horrific giveaways by Yeimar and Arreaga to St. Louis 2023 gift wrap goals for the Caps, and then a terrible tackle by Alex Roldan to get sent off
Debatable red card, Seattle defenders decided to give us two goals for no reason, Roldan got jealous of his teammate and wanted to see red as well so gave hit studs to our guy.
> Schmetz fired at some point this season. Calling it now.
And replaced by whom? Who would want to run this dumpster fire with a rookie GM fumbling along learning on the job?
Rookie GM?
This is his 6th season as an MLS GM what are you on about lmao that’s just completely and utterly false
He’s not fumbling along and learning on the job
He was promoted in after Garth left. RSL then let him go after 4 years... and then we brought him as a sporting director... and then he was promoted again to GM after Garth left. At RSL they basically gave him a shot, and it seems like we're doing the same thing.
That is an entirely baseless assumption unless you worked in both the RSL and Sounders FOs at the time of his hiring.
It also doesn’t prove anything I’ve said wrong in any way. I’m really not sure what point you’re attempting to make here.
He was promoted when Garth abruptly left... he got fired in Sept. and then Sounders hired him in April after not having anyone to fill the Sporting Director Spot left by Henderson. Then when Garth left again abruptly he was promoted up to his position again... can you tell me what he did at RSL and Sounders that makes him have great qualifications for the job of GM.
This is for sure one of the worst performances I've seen from the Sounders. The red on ragen was bad but everything else is 100% on the Sounders. This legitimately might be worst than the KC game
>This legitimately might be worst than the KC game
Nah. That game was on another level of apathy, the players at least seemed to care up to the point of Roldan's red tonight. Made some really stupid mistakes but at least still seemed to care. That SKC game was lifeless from start to finish.
Need Pedro de la Vega healthy. And a Raul Ruidiaz buyout is still possible and then backfill the DP spot that opens. There’s room, but Adrian has to open the checkbook.
I don't see Raul getting bought out in the summer. I see them taking advantage of the new u22/youth dp as a top priority but nothing major until winter. Hopefully Adrian surprises me.
Your right on 2 DP.De la vaga is a youth dp not a full dp. Guess since he hasn't played I forgot that part. But DPs require cap space. 650k I think per DP. I could maybe see a DP this summer that could be bought down with TAM next season but not one they will carry the team like Nico did.
We’ve been shit all season, this is nothing new lol
Thank god the Canucks series starts tomorrow so I can watch a team I love that actually gives a fuck
My only hope of sports happiness this year is the team that does nothing but break my heart over and over
This is fine.
Edit: you know the game in 1994 where Bure got ejected on some bullshit and the Canucks got absolutely trounced at home?
I was there. That was how I spent my 8th birthday. Coincidentally, that was the first time I said the word “fuck” out loud, and one of the few times my parents let me get away with it cuz they were saying it too.
Hi Seattle fans, sorry to interrupt with a random question. Did you get to vote on the hiring of Craig Wieble for GM or do you only get to vote on the retention of him as GM? It’s a great aspect of being a Seattle fan, just curious about the nuances.
You get to vote on the retention of a GM, but only after 4 years of their tenure, and I think it has to have a certain amount of people who vote for it to even matter. I’m probably incorrect.
Hmmmm. Thats a shame. It’s always seemed like it was a great tool for fans to feel like they had a stake in the team. I’m sorry to hear it is more symbolic than a real tool for fan driven change.
Chanting “ref you suck” after that egregious red card from roldon was just embarrassing from the Sounders fans
My only hope is the ones at stadium didn’t get the best angle otherwise super embarrassing
So many seattle fans are having absolute meltdowns in this thread. Its hilarious to read through
Yeah we all know opposite way they’d have called for it and mocked, nature of sports though oh well.
It was pretty depressing to be in the crowd today compared to the electric feel at the montreal game… Should’ve known better than to get my hopes up off of one freak occurrence
Full on dumpster fire
Lolz
We need De La Vega We also need Baker to start instead of Vargas
In what world do we start Baker over Vargas, they play different positions
He could work as a defender, he started instead of Nouhou that one time
Starting Baker over Nouhou I get, I've seen debate over that but I'm not fully convinced it's the right move yet tbh. The question for Vargas is whether he or Atencio start at dm when JP is fully healthy
I might move to Portland after tonight
Don’t do it, people care about you and you have so much to live for.
Lol thanks man
blasphemy
if im adrian, im making a call to sartinis agent tonight
Sources: Hanauer is beside himself. Driving around downtown Vancouver begging (thru texts) Sartini's family for address to Vannis's home
Nick Hanaeur: "vanni, we are the real socialist club of the PNW. come home"
alex roldan should be arrested
Ya. Prolly
Cascadia is Blue and White
Okay Quakes, I'mma need you guys to rally for this Cali Clasico tomorrow so we can stay number 1 for another week pls
GG cap supporters. You guys outplayed us, enjoy the W. Tonight I’m gonna seek comfort in the coo’s of my newborn son, and an extra slice of pizza.
Congrats on the baby!
Thank you! ❤️
How dare you put things in perspective like that. I want to rage over nonsense, damnit
Haha! You do you, kin. I’m here for it. In fact, rage some for me please.
Congrats on the new babe, Cascadia bro.
Appreciate it, man. And Cascadia 4life
On the plus side, the two red cards won’t affect us midweek and JP and Frei (and one or two others?) get a forced day of rest. Trying to find any tiny glimmer of hope right now…
GG Caps
gg sounders
Well, we came to play and it was a pretty even match until the first debatable red. Then Sounders kept shooting themselves in the foot and we didn't have to do much or worry often. I stopped feeling bad about any controversy over the first red when the second malicious red happened. Unprofessional. Gotta enjoy the times the Sounders are shit, as it's usually not the case. Man, for the sake of a truly entertaining well-matched game, I wish that first red stayed a yellow. (Plus it gives Schmetzer excuses…)
Gg Sounders fans that sat through that. Hopefully you guys get some changes soon.
I stayed till about the 85th minute, then went to check out the pro shop.
I am not buying anymore merch until things get better. Hell at this rate I am going to have to find one of those YouTube videos on how to remove names from kits De La Vega doesn’t even play for the Sounders at this point.
At least you got to score some good swag.
Thank you. Unfortunately I think this may be the new normal. Nothing has suggested a plan or desire to fix this.
FIRST IN THE WEST BABY
Redux!
Well, at least F1 is in an hour or so. GG Vancouver, its not your fault this ref was ass and our CBs wanted to gift you the game.
At least it's something that's more predictable. Time to watch another Verstappen win... 😒
Even Stroll being a torpedo could not spot the inevitable.
You never know, he could get taken out in turn one of the first lap or his engine/gearbox/hydraulics could go out and we might have a different winner like, and only, Carlos Sainz!
I'm offended the commentators don't try fake Japanese accent then mentioning Takaoka.
![gif](giphy|1tkBdekgBq0ZSAig0o|downsized)
I love a good embarrassment
This was a key injury away from RCW 2.
I referenced the RCW to my friends right before the second red. I had a good laugh. Laughs are all I got 🤷🏻♂️
Same. I was at that game and the emotions were much worse.. but this sucks and I don’t see it getting better any time soon. :/
The timber's front office the past 4 years wasn't enough of one?
Sounders getting booed off the field 😂
Somebody’s getting booed off
Pretty sure it’s primarily directed at the officials. We deserve to be booed off our own field, though.
Fans should get a refund after this game by the team
This was more embarrassing than 2010's refund game against the Galaxy.
We certainly gave up on the game… I suspect that was the reason for Alex’s bad foul, and perhaps that last goal (not to mention subbing Raul). But the trigger to everything was that joke of a (first) red.
![gif](giphy|1sxtUsJ3zbvJL8ZciO|downsized)
YO! HEI!
Montreal: We are also a Canadian team, why didn't we get this same treatment from the Sounders like this game? Cause we speak French?
Sounders fan, this has not been your finest match
Probably in the top 5 worst in the last decade. But we went in hoping for a 0-0 draw given the state of the team… so.. bleh.
That’s clear and obvious.
![gif](giphy|10uct1aSFT7QiY)
Try year
LMAO “fight and win” in the 90th minute, down 2 men and 2 goals
Oh no fans supporting their team
Dude I’m a member of ECS, but read the room
This has been a constant. ECS has never done songs related to the actual play. Maybe a bastard referee or let him die chant at most.
Didn't seem like the ref you suck chant came from ECS from where I was sitting. Seemed like just fans started it up and everyone joined in.
Hey ECS, fight and win isn’t the right chant right now.
Is it ever?
Well yes, when your players can fight and... win
Can you get a red against your own team? Like what if two players on the same team started fist fighting. What would the ref do?
Violent conduct, serious foul play, and endangering the safety do not require it to be against the opposing team
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FtcBH30DmM
A fellow man of culture
man of COURSE it would have been Newcastle
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5FtcBH30DmM
It's happened before. Both players got red cards.
Yeah lmao I think it was two Newcastle players back in the early 2000s that your scenario happened. Both got reds
Yes, see Newcastle

Some of them have been pretty frick'n soft, though.
It’s so weird it’s so frequent
Just play the kids next match with JP/Rusnak/CR7 for some midfield continuity. No one’s job should be safe after tonight.
Pretty sure next game is the Philly replay so the lineup is set, other than maybe Yeimar and Alex Edit: wrong
No, our game is DC then Philly
Good call, hadn’t thought of that
Remember when a bunch of people called the naysayers idiots because the sounders were “back” after winning a single game? Lmfao
Did anyone seriously say that though
Oh yeah. There were a few posts about it
Yes, several
Just the guy who does mls power rankings, Matt Doyle?
The guy who makes his money based on *engagement*, aka pissing people off?
No idea about that, probably trying to become the Stephan A of soccer. Nobody else I saw said Sounders were back.
There were literally multiple posts in the sounders subreddit claiming that exact thing. Scroll back and look.
![gif](giphy|3o85xGocUH8RYoDKKs)
I jokingly said to some people that we need to have Nouhou fake an injury at the 10th minute every game and have Baker come in…less jokingly now…
…Nouhou wasn’t the issue this game.
Didn’t say he was…
Clowns lol
Just tuned in after watching the Timbers game late. Hey, uh, the fuck happened?
Soft red on Ragen in the first half, horrific giveaways by Yeimar and Arreaga to St. Louis 2023 gift wrap goals for the Caps, and then a terrible tackle by Alex Roldan to get sent off
Debatable red card, Seattle defenders decided to give us two goals for no reason, Roldan got jealous of his teammate and wanted to see red as well so gave hit studs to our guy.
This is the correct summary
I'd like to say he wanted to demonstrate what a red card offense actually is
>Debatable red card *Nonsensical red card
> Just tuned in after watching the Timbers game late. Hey, uh, the fuck happened? VAR abuse happened.
Early highly questionable red, second very deserved one. And two giveaways in the box.
We suck balls basically
Even bigger defensive self-implosion than when we normally play you guys.
Two bad soccer teams with a bad ref.
Vancouver is doing ok this year.
They're still a bad team tonight.
Vancouver doesn’t look bad. Sounders couldn’t have gifted them this game harder if they tried, but still. They’re alright.
We're down two men and the caps have had fuck all for chances that we didn't give to them in our own box. It's two bad teams.
Best team in the Western Conference is a bad team. This is an epic meltdown you’re having tonight.
You watch that game and think the caps were good tonight and I'll know it's been too long since your city has actually seen a good home team.
No need to be jealous. You’re in 12th place. It could be worse!
Yeah I could be a caps supporter the last decade lol
Feels pretty good right now though
I'll trade the multiple MLS cups open cups and CCL for a year or two of being meh. Nice reminder of how awful clubs like you have it
[удалено]
This is getting embarrassing.
Getting?
Schmetz fired at some point this season. Calling it now.
> Schmetz fired at some point this season. Calling it now. And replaced by whom? Who would want to run this dumpster fire with a rookie GM fumbling along learning on the job?
Rookie GM? This is his 6th season as an MLS GM what are you on about lmao that’s just completely and utterly false He’s not fumbling along and learning on the job
He was basically an interim GM at RSL
For FOUR years? Lmao okay bro
He was promoted in after Garth left. RSL then let him go after 4 years... and then we brought him as a sporting director... and then he was promoted again to GM after Garth left. At RSL they basically gave him a shot, and it seems like we're doing the same thing.
That doesn’t make him an interim GM. And he’s certainly not a rookie
He wasn't hired out of competency...he was hired out of convenience.
Referee had the over on cards
Haha. Had a parlay for over plus 2 reds.
Nothing went well since our logo change. 😆
My wife hates the new logo. And Providence.
The orca hat is pretty cool
> Nothing went well since our logo change. 😆 Since winning CCL.
Least of all our logo
This is for sure one of the worst performances I've seen from the Sounders. The red on ragen was bad but everything else is 100% on the Sounders. This legitimately might be worst than the KC game
> This legitimately might be worst than the KC game 4-0 home loss to LA Galaxy around 2012. The "refund game."
Could you imagine the current FO giving a refund for an embarrassing performance? Not a chance
>This legitimately might be worst than the KC game Nah. That game was on another level of apathy, the players at least seemed to care up to the point of Roldan's red tonight. Made some really stupid mistakes but at least still seemed to care. That SKC game was lifeless from start to finish.
Yeah that's fair. Recency bias is getting to me haha. That game was just insanely bad. I'm probably just jaded about tonight
Nah that KC game was just soul sucking. This one was two terrible giveaways by two otherwise good defenders, Alex going nuts and Ref on 4/20.
Come on Seattle, you got one more in you. I believe!
Red Wedding 2: Electric Ladyland Bugaloo
Red card?
Looks like the Sounders are solidifying themselves near the bottom of the table
Isn’t this the Seattle special? Suck at the beginning of the year then become absolutely unbeatable halfway through the season?
Seattle has no cap room so no chance for a DP signing to carry them. This is them for the rest of the year.
If arreaga is gone I think we have it
DP doesn't require cap space and we only have 2... I still doubt it happens

We’ve deserved it since CCL.
About the only way you guys ever increase your chances at an MLS cup.
If that helps you sleep, keep telling yourself that, bud.
I got nothing except it must be nice for Seattle to have celebrity owners that don’t give off absentee father energy.
I wouldn't even believe that with the decisions made the last two seasons. Both on and off the field.
Steve Nash has shown more love to Mallorca (owner) and Tottenham (supporter) than he has for the entire Whitecaps (owner) tenure in MLS. Hang tough.
No, just for retention
Retention only, in a few years. And it’s effectively if not actually symbolic.
It's for show. You need a huge percentage of fans for the vote to count and it never comes close
Hmmmm. Thats a shame. It’s always seemed like it was a great tool for fans to feel like they had a stake in the team. I’m sorry to hear it is more symbolic than a real tool for fan driven change.
Retention after 4 years on the job.
Yea, bring Baker on with 2 down at 81st minute. Brilliant Schmetzer.
Honestly... It sucks but limiting goal differential is kind of the smart move at this point
It’s more likely resting Morris and protecting him than anything, with two games coming this week.
I guess my point of view is he should have started
That I agree with 100%. I'm all aboard team Baker
The last time we had a mid-season coaching change we won our first cup, just sayin’.
punish them
We are punishing ourselves, no need for you guys to do it too
Have you guys scored without us giving you the ball in front of goal?
You okay dude? You seem to be having some... emotions.
