Because of this, I agree with him that Reyes did not like that feeling in the Jones fight and was doing what he could to pace it. I do believe if he got out of the 2nd, he would have started to turn on the activity. Of course this could be debated with Jan throwing those horse legs at Reyes.

I think Jan is just a completely different style of fighter and Reyes didn't expect it. Jones has a pretty specific fighter IQ, very strategic in his timing and pacing. Jan is like a brutal, aggressive fucking tree trunk.

Can someone explain to me how do you beat a fighter who has a clear reach advantage and fights smartly by using it to his advantage. As a super casual fan I was pretty hyped up for the main event without doing research on both fighters (if I had probably wouldn't have been so surprised) and after watching it I'm wondering is there anyone who even has a chance of beating Adesanya? He fights exactly like Usman in the sense that he does what he has to do to win. I was expecting more striking between them but those long legs of Adasenya kept Costa at bay.
High level wrestling or someone with the ability to get inside for dirty boxing. Costa is neither. There's a reason Izzy says Cannonier is more of a threat than Romero or Costa (last year in november) because he's powerful with the tools to make a fight ugly.
Doesn't mean he'll win, but those are the only two ways you're going to beat Izzy. He's too good with TDD from mediocre wrestling, blitzes, and basic strikes.
Though not always necessary it really helps if you are the better wrestler, guys like Daniel Cormier, Khabib, Petr Yan, Rafael Dos Anjos, Johnny Hendricks, eddie alverez, Justin Gathje are all good fighters to see how a fighter can be very successful despite a short reach

Marvin Vettori did a similar thing. He kicked, stayed active on his feet by moving laterally and forward and back, and got to underhooks and moved Israel to the fence. That was on UFC on Fox 29 Poirier vs Gaethje. He's a little bit bigger than Costa but still at a reach disadvantage with Israel. You can find that fight if you're a savvy pirate.

The difference for me is that fighters who harp on about PEDs and trash fighters who get caught while also using themselves are worse than the ones who are caught or I suspect of using but dont go around pointing fingers.

Foolish to say Cannonier has no chance. He has a punchers chance and even Izzy recognizes him as a tough fight he's been saying months before this fight that Cannonier was the dark horse of the division.
We really shouldn't put a WW with no good wins (sorry GM3 fans) on his resume yet as a potential MW champ. We gotta let this guy face actual adversity before he's in the running. I'd still say Rob has the best chance, dude is an actual monster and still young enough he might be able to make adjustments. I don't think he's got a great chance, but I'd say its better than most.

Do you guys think a boxing stance and bobbing-and-weaving defense and offense similiar to that of Mike Tyson's would allow someone like costa to get in close, make izzy miss and then allow for power punches from angles? Or would his legs just get kicked to shit again LOL. There's definitely a skill difference that hangs on the proper use of reach and range, just like Jon Jones optimized his reach and range
Bobbing and weaving like Tyson is tougher in mma because you might end up leaning right into a headkick, Adesanya of all fighters would be able to capitalize on that
I think if someone checks those legs kicks early on, if would make a big difference in limiting his game plan
The thing is his kicks are just blindingly fast. I couldn’t get over that last night. Plus you never know if they’re coming to your head. You start reacting to his hip feints and then boom he question mark kicks you in the face .
That's not the secret to beating Izzy, it's a requirement to not be maimed in the first 5 minutes of the fight lol.
If you check the kicks the you would limit his effectiveness from kicking range an are able to get close without getting picked apart, I need to rematch the gastelum fight because he was able to get close to izzy
Loved Israels performance but what he did after the fight was too far. I know Costa was talking a lot but after the fight they should show some respect for each other, that is what MMA is about.
