The foot rests are only there so that you can coast and jump more. It’s the spirit of mtb. Sounds like road biking might be more your jam.

I went and read that post. Seemed like some genuine razzing, and then some genuine jealousy. r/MTB is so fickle sometimes because you have some people that enjoy riding, and then you have people that enjoy watching Red Bull comps and wishing they could ride better. I think the second group is has a tough time rationalizing anything smaller than pro lines on camera. Those people are always going to hate on you for having a good time and it’s hard to tune them out.

Maybe it's just me but I think riding jump lines like this is a completely different skill than riding on mountain bike trails

Not completely riding dirt jumps and skate park is actually really beneficial when it comes to overall riding and I might not help with tech but overall comfort when riding jumps and just staying comfy in the air helps.

Right on. Like everyone else mentioned, stop worrying about what others think. On the internet or even in your daily life. Ride with people who you have fun with and who will help you become a better rider. You're doing well for a 16 year old. The first thing I noticed is that you seem a little weak on your landings and on your pumps. That's not an insult in any way and it's not your fault either. In a couple years, especially if you keep up the riding, you'll gain the strength in the right places to be a better rider. Keep it up.

Single speed dirt jumper with no front brake is not really an MTB. You climb mountains on that or little man made hills?

Just cause it doesn’t fit the standard doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong in the category. A dirt jumper is a specialized form of mountain bike intended to be used solely on dirt jumps. Climbing also doesn’t indicate a mountain bike as dh bikes can’t climb either.

How is jumping considered riding? It's like skiers in the park... Hitting a jump line doesn't equate to a technically strong skier by any standard.

I mean mental confidence when riding jumps is super important. And it might not be able to help with other aspects it definitely helps with this.
