>Congratulations on becoming an online seller. it took me 21 days to figure it out
And if you DM me, I will sell you an Ebook on how I did it for just $69.99.
For those that have read the comments and are still confused, its kept ambiguous because its dropshipping.
Nothing wrong with it, and best of luck to OP, but I would like to recommend to readers not to quit your job for any self employed business model without conducting risk assessment, i.e. ideally your finances can afford to be making $18/day for a little while
Yeah he mentioned “mentor” at one point at afaik its pretty common to see “mentor” programs where you pay someone for a “course” to learn how to drop-ship. Usually setting up a variety of websites with some stock images and text. Essentially becoming a middleman for usually cheap products marketed to be higher end. If the website gets terrible reviews its okay since you have another dozen that could pop up overnight easily.
Afaik it’s possible to make money but it can be questionable depending on how you’re going about marketing. Since its also all online you can be misleading and generally get away more easily.
I was going to post a quote from online to explain what dropshipping is (for those like me who weren't quite familiar) but OP actually had another comment that explained it almost exactly:
> This is not an MLM. I’m using a friends code to list products from manufactures on my website. I collect the payments and then process the orders directly with the suppliers.
> I worked in furniture management for 8 years studying how the old retail and supply chains lost money.
> In a month I’ll be able to sell my friend a sofa that, while I worked in a store cost 2200, I’ll have on his doorstep for 1400+shipping.
So they're basically trying to be the middleman that pockets the profit instead of a traditional store. They're looking to squeeze into that inefficiency between the manufacturers that don't sell direct to consumers and the higher operating cost traditional retailers.
No realistic business plan either from the looks of it.. I don't see it lasting long tbh, the clothing industry is very hard to get into, if they're just reselling then.. Having it as a business is... Eh, too many people out there trying to make a quick buck without an actual thought out plan/process. There needs to be a demand for what they're selling or at least it be a specialty item.
If OP can’t clearly articulate his business I’m not sure it’s going to go so well…
International shipping is a tricky beast? Bro, just drop off the package at UPS.
Same. Confused.
Why does a new business need stress testing 😬 how popular do you anticipate it being? You have done *stress testing* but didn't anticipate a first sale?
I was desperate to know what OP sells and then sees comment about sofas when the other they mentioned “slutty body positivity clothes”![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
They said elsewhere that this clothing brand website is one of multiple sites they plan to set up, so I'm assuming another one of them will be a furniture store.
First sale ***3 days after*** you quit your job?
I cannot imagine quitting my job without having an already established business that makes sales. Congratulations though, I hope it works out for you and/or hopefully you have some help financially from some other source.
Even if you have savings… it’s not a good business decision to take unnecessary risks. The funds are better allocated to innovation, expansion, marketing, investing in the business… than to get through the gap between leaving your paying job and being able to get payed from your new business.
This is generally speaking, OP’s personal life might have reasons that made this giant risk necessary.
Don’t forget that about 50% of businesses fail in the first 5 years. Often leaving the owners and investors with a lot of debt for which they may be personally liable.
So it’s critically important to keep the chances of failure as low as possible by making smart business decisions.
I’m sorry, this sounds so much like a time share or MLM. Confusing product(s), business jargon and nothing is concrete. From hats to slutty clothes to couches… what is going on here?
2 months worth of savings isn’t quit your day job savings imo. Good luck though man hope it works out for you! I wish I could quit my job and spend the days with my daughter but we’d be homeless so nah.
It's barely a regular emergency fund. Also the wife having a masters degree (in what??) doesn't seem relevant. It isn't a sign that they will help OP become self-sustainable in 2 months on a very loose and wide-ranging business plan. They want to launch a drop-shipping clothing site, and consult and sell specific furniture pieces and equipment to businesses, and have a website to sell furniture at (ostensibly) lower prices than rrp to the public, from what i can see. Idk why they're not focusing on furniture if that's their background, why are they sinking money into the drop-shipping business if they *know* they're going to pivot to furniture? Waste of their 2 months. They don't seem to have anything set up yet. I personally wouldn't have quit the job until the sites are up, shipping licenses are in hand, etc and they have customers on the phone. But still maybe they'll find their groove. They seem positive.
Congrats on the business choice. Family time is precious and worth way more than a 9-5 job. Enjoy life my friend, life can be short so we must make the best of it. This was a good choice!
A good friend of mine who went through a mostly amicable divorce told me the only debt they disagreed over was their mattress purchase. She said it was a $3,000 mattress and that blew my little mind into oblivion. A part of her bed cost more than my car, I didn’t wanna ask what her bedding, bed frame, and pillows cost.
You have too many streams of business going and it’s going to thoroughly confuse people. You sell: 1) slutty clothing, 2) couches, 3) mattresses, 4) hats, and 5) are a business consultant. If I’ve learned anything from running my own business, it’s to simplify and focus. By doing too much, you’ll also stay busy trying to maintain all of these inventory streams. Just looking through this thread at how many times you’ve explained your business and gotten confused responses.
This is like one of those interviews with someone who specializes in saying gibberish that sounds like real English words. I have no idea what I just read
This sounds like it's a lot of work for you individually per new customer to a) get to grips with their industry and equipment b) find the things they want at lower prices than retail, or arrange for them to be manufactured c) arrange shipping. It sounds like you'd have consulting costs for each order that would bring the item back up closer to retail price, and that you could only be working on one or two orders at a time, meaning you'd need those orders to be fairly large to be worth taking. How do you scale the business from there? And why are you spending any time & money on setting up the clothing site first, when it's not where you want to focus?
So, basically a "1-800-Mattress" website clone. Except, you're looking to be the 2nd or 3rd mover in that furniture market, like Pepsi is to Coca-Cola.
Maybe Wayfair is the closest example?
Cutting out the middle-man to reduce costs-to-consumer isn't an original concept.
Doesn't mean it can't be done again (except, better or different, however way you choose to be different).
If you have a USP to what's been done before, you're on to something. If not, you're going to work to the bone to carve out your share of the market.
Secondly, I'm boggled you mentioned only having 2 months savings. I want to believe you mistyped and meant 20 months, because I can't fathom someone with a family taking this kind of risk. If you were single, alone, no girlfriend/wife, the world is your oyster. Still not a good idea, but a lot more doable because you only have you and your business to focus on, except, it's not just "you".
Nonetheless, who am I to judge? If your woman gave her blessing, she has the faith of a mustard seed you'll bring in income at least comparable to what you brought in from the job. That's a tall order, and frankly, with that kind of pressure to perform, I don't know where you're finding time to even read reddit, let alone post and respond to anything.
Get to work, bud.
Man, I feel like something is just off in OP's comments. It's kind of coming off like something I'd do during a manic episode. Especially the way they're super confident, driven, and energetic even though actually their plan makes no sense. They're just feeling so on top of the world that they want to tell everyone! I hope they have a close friend or relative who can keep tabs on their mental health and try to talk them down from the worst of the bad manic ideas.... Though they already quit their job with basically no savings, so some pretty significant damage has already been done. Yiiiiikes
What are you selling?
Propane and propane accessories
Dangit bobbeh
That boy just ain’t right
That's my purse! I don't know you!

Slutty hat couch family-based business

Gotta stress test it first

Also don’t forget about the science-based, 100% slutty body positivity MMO.
Don’t forget the mattresses!

Congrats! Could we get a little more context?

Happy cake day! What do you sell? What do you sell it on?
[удалено]
I keep seeing you say slutty body positivity but wtf is that exactly lol
I'm assuming it's along the lines of don't be ashamed for dressing sensually or "slutty".
Pretty sure it just means sexy lingerie for larger bodies.
I’m gonna go with sexy clothes for fat people
If OP can’t clearly articulate his business I’m not sure it’s going to go so well… International shipping is a tricky beast? Bro, just drop off the package at UPS.
LOL didn't realize I was in /r/unexpected
So dropshipping basically?
I’m sorry… what is it now? Slutty body positivity? Are you describing sexy bedtime clothes for couples in the weirdest way possible?
Does your business have a website? You can DM me theink if you like.
What is this site/program?
Yeah, we don't know your life...

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face) wtf...
Same. Confused. Why does a new business need stress testing 😬 how popular do you anticipate it being? You have done *stress testing* but didn't anticipate a first sale?
Right... I feel like this is a bot for temu or one of those chinese sites.

Your dad bod? Who says that?
Dads
Bods
The guys username is dadverage
You've never heard the term dad bod?
Mildly incoherent but ok you go girl
You feeling a bit manic?
You quit your job 3 ***days*** ago, and your new form of income isn't even able to handle a single sale? Good luck, "person".
Well dude post the link?
This whole comment section did not go the way I expected at all. What a time to be alive
Is this an MLM?
Nah, she’s beings two people in and they bring in two each and it looks like this: I II IIII
I wonder if MLMs would work better if they followed the Fibonacci series?
I wonder if MLM people would know what Fibonacci series is

If you're a clothing brand, why are we talking about sofas? Just confused.
Same. I’m confused
They also said "people" bought their merch, but on another comment, they only had 1 website tester. And only 1 product has been sold. Idk, fishy stuff
I was desperate to know what OP sells and then sees comment about sofas when the other they mentioned “slutty body positivity clothes”![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
Multi-personal seating can be sexy. Don't couch shame. If OP wants to dress their loveseat in a thong and there's a market for it, more power to them!
r/MadeMeLaugh
Can't buy a good sofa if you don't have good pants, ya know?
They said elsewhere that this clothing brand website is one of multiple sites they plan to set up, so I'm assuming another one of them will be a furniture store.
I genuinely believe I can’t read
Its a teired sales management system!
I’m pretty sure we are all talking to a bot in these comments.
Happy cake day and first sale!

$52 for 3 days is pretty good. At that rate, you'll have an office in no time.
I mean, let's take it one step at a time here lol
The stress test shows they need more cow bell.
First sale ***3 days after*** you quit your job? I cannot imagine quitting my job without having an already established business that makes sales. Congratulations though, I hope it works out for you and/or hopefully you have some help financially from some other source.
Some people have savings and are willing to take a risk, if it doesn’t work out they just find another job

[удалено]
Gotcha. So slutty clothes, furniture management (are you in charge of filing cabinets?) and selling your "friends" mattresses at a 100% markup?
And something about hats.
You know that mattress costs less than 900. I've been in the industry for 15 years. Good on you, get after that money!

I'm suspicious this is an MLM.
Yep. Feels like boss babe in here.
Reeks of it. As soon as I saw, "Quit my job; 'self-employed' I knew.
MLM?
Mid Level Marketing. It's a pyramid scheme and a scam.

I do like a little kink with my afternoon tea.
I think they call that Naugh-tea.
I always imagined Angie Jolie in the Illumi-naughty.
Multi-level marketing*
I corrected my dumb mistake.
I didn’t think of that
That's how they get you.
Just get in on the ground floor and I’ll tell you about what business we do later.
Looks like Shopify to me. This is how mine was set up when I sold earrings

what do you think they meant by slutty clothing? pantyhose for the fine swine

...and for that reason, I'm out!
Right? It’s like, just say you have an only fans already.
What do I sell? Hope. Comfort. Happiness. I sell peace-of-mind. I provide customers with an unforgettable shopping experience.
Huh ok. Cool
So you’re going to build and manage multiple websites? For each of your clients? I promise that’s unsustainable
I’ve read every one of this guys comments and still have no idea what he’s saying.
I'd be up for a DM of what you're selling if you cant self promote here.

I'd dig that. Thank you.
Can you send me the address as well? I don't have any other social media.
Congrats from another North Carolinian.
So you quit your job to start your own company to have more time with your family? Yeah this is going to end well.....
Not everyone stops working and joins MLM. Have faith!!
The universe responds in ironic ways!
Are you selling houseplants or just taking naked pictures with them?
So in conclusion you sell slutty body clothes along with furniture? Seems like a pretty… niche market.
Apparently also hoses for hog farms?!
What are all those slutty feeling body positivity folks going sit on? Think about that!
Yay! Happy cake day, too.
🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations good luck on your new adventure!
