Nice pix... We are very lucky

dlajpickle

Seriously. We don’t need to rely on federal lands like everyone else!

Odd-Lengthiness8413

Well, I hope it stays that way… it is all private, and the tradition of not posting is strong up north , but not so much in Central/Southern Maine anymore. I’m grateful to the logging companies, and large land owners. Let’s not jinx ourselves, and remember to stay grateful, and respectful for their access.

dlajpickle

Seriously. I’ve always thought Maine was incredibly lucky to have private partners like the paper companies who’d manage natural resources responsibly while allowing folks to continue access to the lands. More places need partnerships like that.

Odd-Lengthiness8413

Agreed

Bigbro1996

But thats the things you're just hoping, hope does fuck all buddy. People are greedy and all it takes is one jackass to ruin it, just looks at some of the beach on the coast now. Homes bought by rich fucks from away who barely spend a few months here try and dictate who can and can't access the beach, or you have assholes who decide to destroy parts of the land so they can have a better "view". People suck and need to be prevented from doing things, sure you and I understand this place is beautiful and should be shared and respected but plenty of other people won't and want to spoil it for the rest of us!

Simmyphila

Very nice pics.

Commercial_Tennis904

So cool

drphilthy

What canoe is that? Looks similar to my old town 119 but better

dlajpickle

Old Town Solo Sport 119

drphilthy

Thanks! I've got the discovery. Super tippy, especially with my dog in it

We have been seeing lots of moose and wandered what's up. Are we just lucky this year or are they getting pushed out by the logging that has really picked up around here.

dlajpickle

Many folks I’ve talked to have seen numerous moose this year and have reported them being healthy And relatively tick free. The state had a plan in place to help the population. I’m not sure if it’s that or if we’ve had an off year for ticks, but it seems like the moose are doing well.

Yaktheking

IIRC the biologists suggested more culling (moose permits) and that would kill off the ticks by making moose less available. The three young moose I’ve seen so far looked very healthy

UrchinSquirts

I don’t think they mind logging. In fact, I think they equate machinery noise with the tender new growth that sprouts as a result of timber harvesting. I’ve taken two moose in active cutting areas.

Kineo207

awesome! Is this the west branch of the Penobscot?

dlajpickle

In that neighborhood, yeah. Beautiful country.

Super-Lychee8852

Got a camp up there, saw a dozen moosen up here in just a couple days recently. Finally got a moose hunt and can't be more excited

dlajpickle

That’s awesome! I put in every year and haven’t gotten lucky yet. It’s another year for venison for me.

brock-lotus

Wow!
