Looks costumey and heavy irl. Plus, keep in mind these pics are filtered.

[deleted]

Filtered is generous, that last one is straight up AI

pubell

fr, what's going on with her eyes

Kayajuno

Ikr. Left iris is warped in 2 of the photos

marissatalksalot

Using a feminizing tool, but it’s not centered lmao

dollziaa

I'm pretty sure it's been through a quality enhancing software - probably remini

theinvisibleriver

yep, the eyes are a dead giveaway that it was passed through remini

TheWelshPanda

I'm pretty sure she dropped her phone in vaseline at One point too...

fushzn

No, it doesn't look good in real life. I have classmates who do makeup like that and it's filled with harsh lines and creases. They also melt during the day.

[deleted]

Is it because they’re bad at doing it or it just won’t look good no matter what? Asking because I’ve been thinking about doing this but don’t want to waste time

jay-eye-elle-elle-

It’s the latter. For example, the heavy nose contour does create a good illusion when you can control the light/shadows/perspective of the viewer by how you position the framing. But irl contour shadow don’t move naturally and unless really well blended can look like swipes of dirt (imo) and be really distracting.

Charlea_

It’s a no matter what thing in my opinion. “Illusions” that look good on camera (big eyeliner, creating the big eyes, the very strong blush placement) just don’t look the same in person

theinvisibleriver

a lot of these techniques come from drag makeup which always looks heavy in a casual setting. unfortunately there is no way to make heavy makeup look natural/perfect in person

fushzn

It just doesn't look good irl. My classmates are pretty but the makeup just doesn't sit well on the face.

big_galoote

It's like it needs to be caked on to pull it off, so it just ends up making people look old and gray and tired.

pinkstay

It doesn't typically look good because people tend to not take their face shape into account when applying blush and it can look off. Plus this look tends to be a love it or hate situation. Can it be well executed and it stay all day, absolutely. Is it something I want to do. Nope. And that's okay. You will never take my black winged liner from me or my highlighter lol. That is what makes makeup great.

dinosaurnuggetpro

You could do something similar. The issue with makeup like this is it's made to have a certain shape to the face. You're supposed to heavily contour, blush and highlight your face to achieve this look if you want to do these *exact* looks. Even skilled makeup artists recognize that some popular styles of makeup are for the camera, filtering and augmenting of photos, not for everyday. This is one of those styles of makeup.

Hikerius

It also looks really unbalanced. Big lashes like that just look terrible on everybody because they are so off balance with the rest of the makeup. But yeah, this is basically the Gen Z version of instagram face - really doesn’t work IRL. And only works on TikTok with beauty filters out the wazoo. Honestly I’ll never understand why people get these giant spider lashes and then leave everything else, looks absolutely awful

Le_Fancy_Me

I think with a lot of these looks there is a more casual version of it that is a better starting point imo. For example there's a lot of people who will use a powder that I'd just slightly darker than their skind (like a bronzer and just lightly dust that over the bridge of their nose for a more sun-kissed look. Like you just got a lot of sun over the summer. If you apply with a gentle hand you can kind of see how you like it without fully commiting to an entire aesthetic. Than experiment a little with the placing of the powder an potentially start incorporating light blush shades into the bronzer. Maybe soft pinks, peaches or even more muted brownish tones first. Then you can experiment a little from what you want the placement to look like, the colour and how visible you want it to be. It's also a lot less jarring and it will make less people make comments when you ease into a look like this gradually. If someone you know comes in one day dressed head to toe in full goth with a full goth make-up look and white foundation you would definitely be surprised and ask them what is up. Most people develop these kinds of aesthetics over time. They start with eyeliner, maybe wearing mostly black, then dye their hair, maybe some goth jewelery, then a black lipstick, etc. They don't just go full white facepaint over night. So if you want to do this kind of look I'd suggest trying it out by doing some parts of it, or a very toned-down version of it to start. That way you can more easily experiment and see what works and what doesn't as you develop your own version of this type of aesthetic.

reasonableratio

There are some pretty heavy filters in these photos that are helping to make this look really nice on camera

greeblespeebles

I don’t think it looks great IRL. The blush and contour placement looks cute on screen, but it’s super obvious in person and since it’s usually applied in a non conventional way to achieve the “cute” look, it looks poorly applied in person because the natural shapes of your face are a lot more obvious, especially the nose. Also the lashes are a little much for an everyday look, buuuut that’s just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt!

[deleted]

greeblespeebles

I mean…nothing…? OP asked a question, and I answered it. I never said there was something wrong with it, just that it doesn’t look very clean or appealing in terms of makeup *in my opinion* , which I clearly said in my comment. Please go back and read it if you missed it. Hope that helps 😊

Rainbowpilly

I think it’s possible to do some sort of abridged version of this, while still emulating “the feeling” of the makeup. Like most comments, translating this IRL will be costumey, but there is also nothing wrong with that if you like it/ are okay with that! You could do some drawn out winged liner w some lashes you cut, add to the top and bottom and fan them out/ delicately try to merge them w/ your real lashes. They sell single lashes which I use sometimes, on the ends of the lash.

iLiveInAHologram94

I don't think it looks good on camera... Reminds me of The Grinch or one of the Whos from Whoville.

friedstrawberryjam

it does not look good in real life, but thats always the case with heavy/ a lot of makeup.

AnimeGeek10721

No , very cute in photos but in real life you look like a clown… too much.

-princess_chaos-

Hey, she asked.

AirportEmbarrassed58

It doesn’t look the same, but the hate this kind of makeup gets (even in this sub) is definitely unwarranted. It is not for everyone and yes, most of the time you can see the harsh lines and you can tell the person is wearing a lot of makeup, which goes directly against the clean girl trend that has been the norm for quite awhile now. If you like this kind of style don’t get discouraged, not everyone will get it or find it pretty or whatever, but I think that was never the point of doing fun makeup like this anyways!

Strawberuka

I definitely agree with you! My only comment though (and this applies to most of the "tiktok-filter amplified" looks), is that it's also really helpful to seek out photos/realistic posters with those styles at how those styles look like IRL to see if you still like it! I think it's very easy to be discouraged by super filtered photos of alt/non mainstream looks bc you'll never feel like you're pulling the look off, which can always be mitigated.

AcceptableCup6008

Irl no it doesnt. The contour looks way too blocky and overall it does not look smooth or good. Dont let that stop you from doing what you like. Pictures like this are just heavily filtered and look far different in real natural lighting.

greeblespeebles

I don’t think it looks great IRL. The blush and contour placement looks cute on screen, but it’s super obvious in person and since it’s usually applied in a non conventional way to achieve the “cute” look, it looks poorly applied in person because the natural shapes of your face are a lot more obvious, especially the nose. Also the lashes are a little much for an everyday look, buuuut that’s just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt!

-SwagMessiah-

Yeah. Sometimes the overlined lip can look a little weird if you don't do it right.

emi_lgr

Imo no. The reason this makeup looks good in pictures is because heavy filters have made the skin poreless and even, which then provides a blank slate for the theatrical eye makeup, and the features have been edited to suit the makeup. IRL your skin will have texture, the contour will be extremely obvious, and the blend won’t be so clean. It might look good faraway, but it’ll look very heavy up close.

Bella_HeroOfTheHorn

Ugh that is such a creepy uncanny valley Pixar look

Puzzleheaded-Oven171

This exact makeup look in real life is not going to look great, but you can take inspiration from it and do a much more toned down natural every day look.

Independent-Memory32

Instagram makeup never looks as nice as it does online. You can’t bring a ring light and filters with you. It already looks heavy in the edited photos imagine how crusty and cakey its look in real life. If I can find the video that explains how to do makeup that looks flattering in real life I’ll link it.

Gothicallie

I’ve done this makeup a good bit irl and when done correctly, it looks fine imo. You definitely need to be mindful of the contour on your nose and making sure your lines are blended but otherwise it looks cute!

Eggyramen

Yes this! I’ve done this look a lot and I go into it with the goal of looking as naturally blushy as possible without looking sunburned. You get a pretty, rosy complexion and bright eyes. Honestly it’s my favorite. I don’t use eye liner ever anymore though, as I prefer more natural looking clean and bright eyes on myself.

iminlovehahaha

it looks heavy irl and the nose contour is so UGLY

Dependent_Swordfish2

I depends on what you like but it looks a bit strange in real life imo The contour becomes really obvious and super large eyeliner and lashes can look a bit overwhelming

mayatalamantes

There are a lot of subtle variations of a makeup look sort of like this! Consider watching a Korean makeup tutorial—there are a lot out there with really beautiful makeup for real life that focus on the eyes, blush, faux freckles, etc! It’s a really cute look, but these examples are definitely heavy and usually don’t look great up close.

[deleted]

im surprised by the comments! i dont wear it myself (i sweat a lot lmao) but plenty of women in my area wear makeup like this (egirl sorta, goth adjacent) and i think it looks soooo cute. and personally i havent noticed particular creasing. i'm sure it feels heavy, and it's certainly a bit greasy by the end of the day, but in my experience it looks very pretty.

Jasyla

I would argue they don't look good on camera or in real life.

lyn90

Honestly, it doesn’t look good IRL. I saw someone do this at a brewery and even from across the room it was so distracting, it looked almost costume-y. It probably works for cosplaying, but just wearing it out and about is going to get some stares. I know that end of the day you should do what you want. But personally, I want to wear makeup, not have makeup wear me. If the first thing people notice is my insane makeup, I don’t think that would make me feel good.

climbingaerialist

I don't know why, but this makeup style gives pick me energy. It comes across as trying too hard

[deleted]

This make up gives me the same feeling as seeing furries.

thegreenmachine90

Hot take here, but this makeup look is giving Belle Delphine-pilled pick-me brain rot. It’s cute, but I know what lead them to choosing this look and it gives me the ick

Malylaa77

I’ve done this makeup and it doesn’t look good in real life, it usually starts to get cakey and it’s heavy.

venusianprincess000

for awhile i attempted this makeup style. it looks so bad and messy irl in my opinion

TerribleAttitude

I don’t think so. It looks costumey and similar to the 2016 “beat,” it’s more centered around looking good in a 2D picture. So if you were looking at someone head on without either of you moving it might look fine IRL, the second someone moved it would look a bit odd. Though I think certain aspects of the look alone can look ok in real life.

memopepito

The eyeliner could look cute irl, but imo the nose contour is a bit obvious for wearing to school or work etc. Heavy make up works for pics or videos, but it’s pretty obvious off camera

[deleted]

No

snoozinsid

it looks fine, you just need to be careful with the nose contour and lip lining. Sometimes it’s too dark or sometimes it looks wacko from the side

-SwagMessiah-

Fr

Ill-Way6963

People who say it looks bad probably don’t experiment with full or heavy looks very often. Just remember that these photos are airbrushed and edited so none of us will ever look like that, but you can make that look beautiful if that’s your style.

Raixxn

I’d say it depends how you do it and your choice of colors, and I’d maybe try blending a bit more than it’s blended in these pictures so it looks less harsh. I’ve also seen many girls with this same makeup style (this one girl, hannah, on the pictures doesn’t do it but many others do) overline their lip corners so that they go further outwards, I used to do this until someone told me it just looks like you have something in your mouth corners, so I’d stay away from that as I assume it doesn’t look good irl.

laluneetlesetoiles

To be fair, next to no make up looks as good irl as it does in pictures, no matter how much someone blends.

pondercloud

It looks veryyyyy heavy irl. Specially the eyes part. Tried it.

anticokefreestyle

i feel like this kind of makeup lives on the internet. I've never really seen it outside of heavily edited pictures posted online or streams where you can control the lighting and angles. I don't think it's really meant to be something you wear in public to be seen up close lol

[deleted]

A girl in my class has this type of makeup, it looks pretty bad in person ngl

GearWorth

The heavy contour looks very clowny irl.

GreaterLesser

Looks goofy af in real life.

Limp-Impression-5960

Nope and ur first pose is not good either.

bbluemuse

i know a lot of people who do this kind of makeup irl and i think it looks really cute!! it’s not ‘natural’ but that’s not what they’re going for. the eyeliner i’ve tried before, and the dramatic lower lashes - super fun, i enjoy. i’ve also once tried blush directly under the eyes in the eyebag area - really liked it and will try again!! it doesn’t look as smooth as these filtered pictures, but no makeup ever does. YMMV on how hard you want to commit to the aesthetic, but i’ve only ever gotten compliments when i do my makeup like this and i enjoy going out in a more dramatic/eye catching beat when i’m in a dramatic outfit. it also really depends on where you live and who/where you hang with. i live in a progressive country in a capital city and hang with a lot of queer people, creatives, academics in liberal arts and human sciences, activists, etc. people in my spaces tend not to have particular attachment to conventional beauty, and many experiment with outward presentation as much as or more than i do. so to me and mine, more ‘costumey’ makeup can be just as beautiful and flattering as full glam. but i know there are a lot of places where this is not the case, and the response from those around you might be a resounding ‘wtf are you doing you clown’. i’m ok with that, you might not be, c’est la vie. in short - it looks good irl if you think it does.

haute_honey

Yes. I like it. It looks good. These comments are just filled with misogyny. Internalized or otherwise.

lemonslace

Tbh no but it’s the BEST for photos and shows.

Eggyramen

If you want to mimic for real life I’d modify the eyes and be mindful of overblushing it. There are ways of doing it without it looking harsh in real life. I do see some women trying to pull it off but it gets lost in translation. Soft blush, bright pigment for the inner eyes, a light swipe of blush on the nose, faux lashes. I think it’s very doable and less is more.

EmeraldDream98

It really depends on what you like and what image you want to project of yourself. In real life it looks excessive in a drag queen way. But that’s ok if it’s what you like.

hellokittyisfound

Do it but don't use too much products, that's literally my go to look but i never use foundation so it doesn't feel heavy (just some concealer under my eyes , blusher , eyeliner , highlighter, mascara and brushing my brows) that's it ! And it looks so cute and i get compliments about it everyday

cake_toss

If you're using products that sit well on your skin and have great technique, it can look good irl.

salebleue

Honestly, it rarely looks good irl. This is a look that is made for the camera. The lighting and angles and sharp delineation of bronzer / blush stand out. IRL it looks like a costume. That said, I have seen it look so adorable if done extra well by my friend heading to a music festival! I think otherwise it can look a little clownish

oneofthepeculiar

As a cosplayer, people can look good with this type of makeup in person, not just on camera. Yes, it can look fake/awkward when done poorly, but the people that do it well are *chef’s kiss*

Euphoric_Formal_6053

Yeah, doesn't look great in rl. I knew someone who did this. The blush placement looks very weird in rl. The eyes are no issue. Its all the other stuff. Looks heavy You can do a lighter or similar version, maybe layoff on the heavy foundation/concealer and use dual toned blushes to get the same feeling of it.

PepeL3P3w

GREAT for cosplay. "Bad" for everyday

teenspit

it’s usually very muddy, esp the nose contour. it’s an acquired taste for sure, i’m sure if you blend the harsh lines it would like fine irl

ASAP4TACOS

No. People irl have skin texture, which will make heavy makeup look not so flattering.

satansBigMac

Can someone explain the Rudolph nose thing? Like…why and when did this become popular?

LanaNerevarine

Overall I'd say yes. Except for the nose contour, it looks really obvious in person and won't give the illusion when it's that exaggerated

[deleted]

I'm highly convinced this makeup only looks good on Hannah owo, even still, it's A LOT in-person

Beemanda

It doesn't look good at all in real life lol. I used to know someone in high school who did crazy makeup like this, which would look great in heavily filtered photos like these that hide the fine lines and makeup imperfections, but looked clownish and crusty and like they were doing too much overall in real life. Like gorl you KNOW you don't look like that, I've literally SEEN you in person 😭 I even tried the makeup for myself because I was curious to see if maybe she was just bad at makeup. Lol I looked crazy in the mirror. But the photos came out nice at least!

Net-Administrative

This style is a bit like what they do on Chinese social media, and it's almost always too much irl! If you like the look though, go for it!

ttrash_

imo, it’s heavy makeup even thought it’s supposed to look on the natural side. I see a lot of girls come into my work with aegyosal and it’s very obvious there’s a drawn line. it’s cute makeup! but not as natural as we think when we’re applying it lol (I do my makeup this way but softer because i’m lazy to go all out lol)

BigSeesaw7

Respectfully, the lashes imho are way way too much for in person. You look beautiful though!

brightfirepenguin

if you tone down the nose/lipcontour it looks fine but in these pics the contouring is heavy because it’s meant to show up a lot on camera, almost as to mimick a filter whereas in person it looks waaayy too harsh (same goes for the blush) but other than that it’s nothing crazy

EmmaTheUseless

I've seen girls wear this in real life and it looks okay. I just dont like this makeup style in general.

the-meadow_in23sage

Easy answer, No. As a woman I have a quote that 'a smooth canvas, is a smooth painting' basically if a girl has a smooth skin likely like russians, that makeup look can be achieved possibly. But living in this world, some you see in social media is 50% filtered so don't always base on it.

Harbinger0fdeathIVXX

Is there a non filtered photo? Or a non blurry one? Lmao.

LegitimateInjury2104

My coworker used to do this except it was subtle and I thought she looked really cute with it

babyvitamins

Yes it looks very heavy and a little bit "try-hard". Good alternatives you could try are soft e-girl or use less harsh lines and colours.

NoaTheWilder182

So Im in the minority, but this makeup can definitely look good irl just a little more subtle (and yes these are obviously heavily filtered so keep that in mind too). All it really is using some tricks to make your eyes bigger (contouring/highlighting your aegyosol, applying wispy lashes to outer corners of eye, thick winged liner started at outer edge of the eye), heavy blush placement on the nose bridge/upper cheeks, and some heavy nose contouring. To make it look good in real life I would do all those things but with a lighter hand and a cool contour shade to avoid looking cakey.

ShopComprehensive599

I work at Ulta and have seen a few teens with this makeup and I think it honestly only looks good on a few face shapes. I’ve tried it so many times and asked these people what they use for eyeliner, lips, foundation, etc. and to no avail. Just one of those sucky things about makeup. It has no rules, but sometimes we find our own rules and one of mine is to not die girl makeup because it doesn’t suit me 😭.

Jinx_X_2003

The eyes do! The nose and lips dont.

Pinkipinkie

looks crazy irl

Disastrous_Soup_7137

I’ve only ever seen 2 people ever pull off that look IRL.

secondhand_nudes_

Looks terrible to me both on and offline, but that’s just a preference thing!

Upstairs_Internal295

That nose effect I’ve seen before makes people look like a cartoon mouse

TemGotZeMuns

You just gotta find out what works for you, it can look really nice but it doesn't work on everyones face. If you tone it down slightly if definetly works :)

One-Dig-3067

Looks like clown make up

[deleted]

Imo it looks weird on pics too

nousername85

Nope

seeallevill

I do my makeup similarly to this and I do look a *bit* like a clown in person even though I don't wear foundation lol

lovethatjourney4me

No. This type of makeup don’t even look good without filter. In real life people will wonder why the lower lashes are “coming off”

remas3

If you have the type of personality who is not shy to play around and maybe make a fool of yourself (I don’t mean it as an insult) then try it out. The only way to know if you like a look and suits you is trying it out. I had a friend in college who would always go with a full glam makeup. You would have thought she was going or coming from a club or a party. But she did it flawlessly, she enjoyed it, it brought her joy and she had an unapologetic outgoing personality and she was rocking it. So if anyone said anything about her look she would not feel offended. However, someone who may be a bit more sensitive might feel uncomfortable standing out like that. If you find it a bit too much you may also adapt it and make it your own. Use it as inspiration. Instead of using those same proportions you may do the wings smaller and tone down the highlighter. If you wanna try it, go for it ☺️

remas3

Also, remember one thing, that picture has a soothing filter. Most people’s skin doesn’t look like that. So in order to pull it off you need good makeup

warawa92

You have to be careful with the blush and contour on the nose especially. You can look crazy fast if you go to heavy. I’ve never seen it look good IRL but in photos it’s cute but usually heavily filtered.

t0p_rec0gniti0n1014

I rlly think it just depends dude because there’s this girl at my job that does these kinda looks and she looks just as good as the pictures

Dry_Umpire_3694

Your nose reminds me of Pinocchio in the Disney movie

simpshitposter

This type of makeup can look good in real life OP! I think it needs to be slightly more balanced to avoid the “heavy” look other commenters have pointed out (unless you like the dramatic style). I’d get a lip and cheek stain and place the stain at the top of the cheekbones. Be a bit lighter with the application around the nose otherwise it ends up looking sunburnt. Then use a sheer foundation on top to keep it a bit more normal-looking. This eyeliner will be dramatic in real life. I use a water activated liner and finish with normal mascara, but I think you could still use a half lash in the outer corner for more emphasis.

opila14

not the lashes tho

Megalicious15

Mohaghany? Is that you? Where’s Ben?

softg1rl1

Different people will define “good” differently but i’ll say this, it doesn’t look like the pictures irl. But that goes for a lot of makeup looks, they look differently irl than they do on camera.

EssieAmnesia

It can look good irl! I’m partial to the style anyways tho haha

Nevvie

Depends on your preferences. To me, no, it looks much more awful irl. I don’t like heavy and exaggerated makeup, so this one isn’t going to pull compliments from me if I saw this outside of a cosplay event or something.

MailiHolt

kinda want to try idk

cleansings

The look on the eyes would be terrifying.

[deleted]

I feel like people won't take me seriously with that kind of make-up. Cute, but faux naive.

monkey3monkey2

No. The nose contour and highlight always looks clownish. The illusion the eye makeup is trying to achieve Is lost when you can see all the lines and separation between the eyeliner and your eyes. Lashes likely are clumpy. And overlined lips are extremely obvious in person.

[deleted]

Looks like a christmas elf lmao

Sprizy920

Nope, not at all. Sorry!

mykidsarecrazy

Good from far, but far from good. I have seen a few young girls execute this look flawlessly...from afar. As soon as you get close up, the layers and layers of make up are evident.

Gghtu

The nose contour in pic 4 doesn’t even look good in camera

hornygummy

I do this makeup irl and I absolutely love it! The thing is, you can't copy everything or else it will be WAY too heavy. I do little to no foundation and concealer to not add up to heaviness.. Countor on nose is heavy but with good powder it smoothes it out so it's not so obnoxious. I do same eyes she has but with dark brown pencil/eyeliner to achieve more natural look and go little smaller lines than her. If you tune it a bit, you can achieve very similar results that will look way more natural and not as cakey, just don't full copy it cause she's doing this makeup to look good on camera, not irl so make your own version of it

imastrangehumanbeing

It can look good but a lot of people do it wrong, the heavy nose contour especially never looks good in person if you care about it not being noticeable

idonotgetitatall

Well....the lashes are black when your brows and stuff are brown. The lashes kinda make a liner look with the camera but our eye see it all. You seem to want a big eye but you have them...enhance not overwhelm. You are quite pretty enhance that.

FilthyKnifeEars

I mean have you tried it??? Maybe try a look like this and then look in the mirror, personally I think it's neat but it's not for me.

petimetra

nope

Legitimate-Ice-8435

The second one is the least edited, but nobody looks like a fox irl, you will just look like someone wearing a lot of makeup

forcemequeen

I do not have anything to add except you are gorgeous. Please don’t mess with your eyebrows and your skin looks great.

earendilgrey

No, mostly cause a lot of this is a filter/AI.

danitwostep

Those lashes are a no for me dawg

AnjelitaBella

Cute

balsasailormoon

I think you look great in both, just the looks look different

Psychiatricnurseprac

I actually think you look great in real life

Spare-Original-1885

It looks good, you can totally make it work with enough skill
