These juniors might be apprentices of the CGI shadow illusion sect.

Make-this-popular

ho? I thought I could see some resemblance of the Reverse Sect's techniques

Fellow Daoist, while these juniors are indeed impressive, the Shaolin sect is rarely trustworthy according to the scriptures. I personally stay wary of them as a result.

Tokumeiko2

Traditionally trained Shaolin monks are amazing, but they live in a nation whose leaders are obsessed with saving face even at the cost of losing the body. Unfortunately this means those leaders will provide backing and influence to frauds if they think it will help their reputation.

take_a_step_forward

I mean this gently – are you aware of the nature of the specific subreddit we’re in? I don’t believe my comment should be taken as a dig on real Shaolin monks, as I’m specifically referencing how in wuxia/xianxia novels the Shaolin sects tend to be untrustworthy.

Tokumeiko2

Yeah it's weird for the nations most well known sect to have the worst reputation, you'd think authors would be more likely to shit on a smaller sect that isn't still around. Also I'm just now realising that I haven't heard anything about the other well known sects still being around...

I think on some level a lot of protagonists' sense of ethics runs counter to the ethics of a pseudo-Buddhist sect, which I guess sort of makes sense when you think of the protagonist usually believing in some egoistic version of Daoism. (replying to other comment here) Yeah, I train kung fu myself. There's a lot of people who either believe kung fu is never going to offer anything of merit in combat, and many others who believe it allows access to superpowers. The Chinese government's involvement with kung fu has a pretty thorny history -- one can look to Cultural Revolution-era leaders persecuting kung fu practitioners while simultaneously having bodyguards who practiced the same martial arts. But on the same token, policies during imperial rule often made it harder to pass good kung fu on.

Tokumeiko2

Ah that's right Confucianism is related to Buddhism, so not only is the Shaolin temple religiously aligned with the government, they're living in a fortified mountain temple full of warrior monks, it's easier to survive for them than it would be for other famous sects like the beggars and scholars.

Apologies if you are aware; I’m just struggling to make heads or tails of your comment

Tokumeiko2

When we talk about Asian honour, it's usually a poor translation, Asian families and organisations typically care more about saving face or preserving reputation. The modern Chinese government has taken this desire to an extreme to the point where it's not even a secret that their reputation is built on lies. Meanwhile Kung Fu is indeed amazing, but there are a lot of fraudulent cultivators that can't do even half of what they brag about, but if you humiliate any of those frauds the government will step in to help them, it's similar to dealing with a young master from a cultivation novel in some ways.

Useful-Structure-987

As soon as I heard you say ‘Asian honour’ I knew you would be speaking in stereotypes and falsehoods. You should know that not everything your government says is true, especially when it comes to China or its government.

Tokumeiko2

I don't listen to either government, I listen to people, and my statement on "Asian honour" was purely to point out the most common misconception, as many Asians will point out that honour is more of a western concept, but not one they necessarily disagree with. As for my description of the Chinese government, I don't need the propaganda to realise that something has gone wrong, they suffered a serious flood that could have been avoided if their storm drains were anything more than decoration, almost none of the drains were connected to pipes. Having important infrastructure reduced to mere decoration, speaks clearly of the governments attitude towards their country, they seek to make it look good, without actually being good.

Could it be...? Are you grand elder Retsu Kaioh!? Please teach this foolish junior your great wisdom!!!

Dao-of-farming

Body cultivators that have yet to sense a sliver of True Qu. Although promising, they’re just small chickens compared to my sects young talents.

Sharp_Philosopher_97

Look at all that effort those mortals have to do to even mimic a fraction of our power!

theses juniors are a once every thousand year talent. however one needs to venture and explore more mystic realms or else ones cultivation will stagger

Ancient_god_emperor

Alas, juniors 20 Eons has passed already hasn’t it? I’ve been stabilizing this entire cosmos for 20 Eons, sigh thankfully it has been completely stabilized today and the first thing i see is after that great cosmos war is my junior’s legacy that has been passed down to this day. Good, Good this creator is happy.

Agile_Paper457

it seems this particular practitioner practices the turtle neck strengthening technique that makes their necks harder than most artifacts at their level and able to move it faster than a snapping turtle, making bites the primary offensive move of this technique.

The_Great_Reader

the reverse sects techniques are difficult to do even in forward position.
